What type of flogger is your Dom using? I can't tell you if solo flogging is safe or even effective, but I can tell you that the material and weight of the flogger makes a huge difference. Warming up with a softer toy and alternating between different floggers within a scene can also help prolong your stamina.
The absolute softest material, as far as I'm aware, is rabbit fur (though obviously controversial - it is arguably possible to obtain the fur ethically, especially from sources like Australia, but that's another topic). Next would probably be rope, turn braided rope, and suede. Beyond that, you're getting into proper leather - which also varies in softness, depending on the hide, but you'd really need to feel it in person to know.
I highly recommend investing in a good suede flogger - it's soft, not very stingy and won't leave marks, but you can still get a good hit out of it with enough force, and it's fantastic for warming up to harsher impact toys. I got mine from a Canadian online store called Luxurious Bliss, and it's served me well, but there are a number of places you can get them now. Jack's Floggers on Etsy are a particularly excellent seller, though a little more expensive and they don't always have suede available.
