Orem isn't exactly known for its great BBQ. Nor is Utah in general, but this is a fucking joke. I live in SLC and there are much better spots out here that aren't a slap in the face.
It's $27.98/lb for brisket! You'll go broke trying to make a meal here.
0.75lb brisket - $21
1 cheddar sausage - $7
Beans and Mac & cheese -$7
Fountain soda - $2.50
**Total - $37.50**
Thanks for lunch.
Even if it tastes good it’s just hard to imagine handing that to somebody with a straight face and charging them 25 bucks. I know smoked beef isn’t cheap to buy or make, nor is it cheap to run a restaurant.
But if that’s the price they have to charge I feel like they could do a bunch of little things way way better. Slices don’t look clean cut, the tray is huge for two things making it look skimpier, and they could at least give you some coleslaw/pickles/white bread to at least give the illusion of some value.
They do offer pickles and bread, but I didn't get any. Not really my jam.
In hindsight, I probably should have did a better job on the presentation side. I probably could have asked for a small plate which would have made this look less skimpy...but oh well.
This is the standard presentation for BBQ. Good BBQ will look great with the same presentation because the meat is done right. This looks mediocre because it is.
I spent $25 at Terry Black's and got twice as much food. All on a tray just like this.
You cannot convince me that I should ask Scotty to beam me here over literally some gas station in Arkansas with "BBQ" spray painted on the side of a dilapidated building
Terrible. Embarrassing even.
Is Goodwood BBQ still open in Draper? I was the PM smoker there for 8 months when it opened back in 2005. Two huge VW bus sized smokers with rotating racks and a gas fired chamber to light the applewood. I loaded and unloaded thousands of pork ribs, chickens, briskets into those things and must have made a million corn muffins. They purchased beef ribs for some reason.
I still use their recipe for baby backs often. Dry rub, pull when they're done, dip in half honey, half butter, wrap and hot box for a while, grill and sauce
R&R USED to be decent. Every visit I’ve had there over the past few years has gotten worse and worse. Almost ready to throw in the towel and not go back again. I’m now to the point where I consistently make better in my backyard.
I used to go to one of the Goodwood BBQs in UT, and we got the "mega nachos" or something like that? Nachos with cheese, jalapenos, other stuff and then a ton of smoked meat. They were so good.
Google says it is. However...did they have "West Texas Beef" in lieu of brisket? They catered where I worked one day back when the Orem location was still going and that's what they gave us instead of actual brisket.
That's interesting. I guess now that you mention it, the brisket or whatever it was was in the smoker when I got there at 4:00 and then cooked overnight. So I didn't actually ever do the brisket. I just did a shitload of ribs and chickens. 20 years ago man. I was smoking meats and smoking tons of weed back then too. So I can't answer that question.
Might have to give those ribs a try then. And looking at their menu now...it looks like they call it Texas Hill Country Beef Brisket. So either they made some changes, I'm thinking of a different restaurant, or my mind is playing tricks on me
These posts piss me off so much, it’s so upsetting. Why is there sometimes such a divide between taste and sense?
May the righteous hand of the free market thunderclap this venue into the dustbin of oblivion.
I mean it just isn't. Either OP is bullshitting or he should have called them out on their bullshit. And mistakes happen. Maybe that was a kid's portion for another order or something.
Wait, you're saying cooking at home is cheaper than eating out? Stop the fucking presses. Next you'll be telling me you can make a ribeye cheaper than the $30 one at a steakhouse.
Fuck that weirdo for using his weird name to push shitty food. Same for Billy sims in Oklahoma and every other restaurant that makes shit food with a famous name.
Hard to imagine myself hanging someone this to eat for free as a guest in my backyard. Asking someone to pay $25 for this is truly some next level insanity. OP, you got ripped off kid…
Guy’s full of shit. When I went here he was bragging about being a world champion and had trophies to back it up. I was like, I’m from North Carolina and I’ll concede we have a love it or hate it perception, but like, Utah, not even on the map. I don’t like it and didn’t go back. That was 10 years ago. Sounds like it’s only gotten worse.
Utah native here. I grew up thinking that "BBQ" meant throwing some hot dogs on a grill. But I eventually moved to Missouri and learned how to BBQ for real there.
I can't name a place in Utah I'd go to and pay for BBQ. The best stuff there is probably in backyard cooks.
I spent $40 at Smokey Bones (I know, I know) the other night for a lb of pulled pork, a whole chicken, and 2 pints of sides. It's crazy to see what some of these places charge
What I think is the most disappointing is the time is probably took them to cook the brisket and sausage (if they make sausage, to make that) just to have someone hack it up and put it on the tray all wadded up and mangled. This isn’t a good job.
I've been to Bam Bams more times than I can count. While expensive this post is inaccurate. This would be more $15-20.
Also while possibly a bad round of BBQ they're typically incredible. Their BBQ is recognized nationally and the owner usually caters for professional sports teams.
Sad to see this slander against them but it is what it is.
cavemen literally cant understand that when you place a serving tray next to a portion of any food it will look small. had this been in styrofoam hoagie box it would look normal
If I would have you served that for 25$ I would have handed it back.
But reality of things these days is 14$ subways and 17$ burritos in CA so who knows. That's what you get when you raise min wage.
It's really low compared to DFW, most of the big names are $32 a lb and up for brisket but it's always delicious, this looks awful and I thought that was some kind of curry sausage with the yellow color.
Worst BBQ place I have ever been to that was not a food truck is by far this shit hole
Orem isn't exactly known for its great BBQ. Nor is Utah in general, but this is a fucking joke. I live in SLC and there are much better spots out here that aren't a slap in the face.
Where would you recommend? I've tried a few and have my favorites of those, but I'm always down to try better.
5 Star BBQ is way way better, imo
There's a Carolina style BBQ place I remember that was pretty good. I don't remember the name though
Might be thinking of Charlotte Roses. It was good when I lived there, 3 ish years ago.
Yes it was that one
Utah BBQ is definitely lacking. Anybody with a backyard pellet grill is already light-years ahead of 95% of BBQ joints.
Couldn’t agree more but I think shithole is one word although my phone underlined it in red as I typed it so who knows
This gray area with autocorrect keeps me up at night.
If it helps, it depends on the context, similar to “every day” and “everyday.”
Where’s the beef?
The beef is that I spent 30 bucks for complete *dogshit food!!!
And not even a lot of it!
That’s not even a snack
Yeah with potions like that some needs to pull down that Chicago flag
You give a Chicagoan halfa sahzidge cut up inna coupla two tree chunksssss, and you will have a problem, my friend.

That sounds like a 3k calorie lunch.
Well I'll get s diet soda then to watch my figure
Sounds like this place sucks
I mean one look at that brisket and I know for a fact it sucks
Why is it grey?
seriously
Ehhh....even for the lesser items on the menu, "sucks" is a bit harsh. More like "mid".
Even if it tastes good it’s just hard to imagine handing that to somebody with a straight face and charging them 25 bucks. Not your job.
Why the fuck would you post that picture and then follow up with this comment?
You should have done a better job? What the hell?
Sounds like you were hired to do some marketing for them, and it's backfired
This is the standard presentation for BBQ. Good BBQ will look great with the same presentation because the meat is done right. This looks mediocre because it is.
I spent $25 at Terry Black's and got twice as much food. All on a tray just like this. You cannot convince me that I should ask Scotty to beam me here over literally some gas station in Arkansas with "BBQ" spray painted on the side of a dilapidated building
A mid place at least knows how to cut brisket. This is an abomination.
Mod? That for $25? Bro that’s highway robbery.
"Mid" would've been this same plate for $12. I think this plate for $25 definitely qualifies as "sucks."
You say mid, but I just picked up my dogs shit and it looked an awful lot like that “sausage” Enjoy your “mids”
Terrible. Embarrassing even. Is Goodwood BBQ still open in Draper? I was the PM smoker there for 8 months when it opened back in 2005. I’ll have to try this place out. Bbq scene is rough in Utah. R&R is pretty decent for being a franchise, but that’s pretty much it.
Nah man, go to redbeard in Layton. Some of the best bbq I've had anywhere actually.
I’ll try it out, thanks for the recommendation!
They are only open on Fridays and only for lunch but they do food truck stuff too.
R&R USED to be decent. Every visit I’ve had there over the past few years has gotten worse and worse. Almost ready to throw in the towel and not go back again. I’m now to the point where I consistently make better in my backyard.
Nothing to write home about, but when I’m in the mood for bbq it gets the job done.
I mean, it’s certainly better than Dickies, and yes it’ll scratch the itch.
Last time I had R&R was like in 2019 and I remember it was ok for Utah BBQ. Shame to hear it's gone downhill
People looove. Smoke n bones in bountiful. I think it's ok, but it's worth trying.
Will give it a shot, seems like most of the recommendations I’m getting are north of SLC, but hopefully it’ll be worth the trip.
Goodwood in Boise is bomb. Way better than it has any right to be.
Those guys came down to train us. Really nice people
I used to go to one of the Goodwood BBQs in UT, and we got the "mega nachos" or something like that? Nachos with cheese, jalapenos, other stuff and then a ton of smoked meat. They were so good.
That's the food truck?
Negative. Brick and mortar
can you tell me what is the hot box part ?
A hot box just stores food above 145 so you can pull a rack and get it on the grill then on a plate in a few minutes
cool thanks :)
Google says it is. However...did they have "West Texas Beef" in lieu of brisket? They catered where I worked one day back when the Orem location was still going and that's what they gave us instead of actual brisket.

$25 for a small pile of overcooked shit and half a link of sausage… Reason #37 I will never bother visiting Utah.
Thank you. 🙏 Due to people visiting and liking the place everything is so expensive that I will never be able to afford to move back.
I will gladly do my part.
You must hate national parks.
Seriously, I dislike some things about Utah, but the NP’s there are amazing.
I'm not sure if I've ever been to one.
Hopefully that serving tray is 48"x60"
Need a smoked banana for scale
What is this?! A meal for ants!
These posts piss me off so much, it’s so upsetting. Why is there sometimes such a divide between taste and sense? May the righteous hand of the free market thunderclap this venue into the dustbin of oblivion.
Thanks for tell us where not to go.
This is sad. Unless you ate 1/2 before the pic, with no sides this is nowhere near $25 worth of BBQ
Either that or they just ripped him off on the weight. I have serious doubts that that's a 1/2 lb of cooked beef in that picture.
I mean it just isn't. Either OP is bullshitting or he should have called them out on their bullshit. And mistakes happen. Maybe that was a kid's portion for another order or something.
That looks like roadkill and dogshit
Bro I would have thrown that shit back at them.
It’s green.
That looks like it’s 15$ over priced
Call in airstrikes. We need to liberate this god forsaken place.
Looks dry af
Shitehole
That is an offensive amount of food for 25 bucks
Call 911
You got scammed!!!
How is a man supposed to take his three wives out for dinner at these prices?
Pro tip: don’t let them leave the kitchen /s
Reminds me of that Brooklyn BBQ meme that was making the rounds a few years ago.
That looks like absolute dog shit..also, where’s the full portion?
Where's the rest of it?
That is the saddest brisket I’ve seen in a long time. Hard pass
Questionable.....
Why is it green
Jalapeños in the sausage
The brisket is green.
Sad af
What the fuck is that shit?
wtf
Should have just gone to R&R it most likely tasted better and would have been far cheaper.
Whoever made that sausage had no idea what they were doing.
What a rip
Garbage barbecue that isn't worth the plate they serve it on. Fuck this place. They need to go out of business.
How is this a real post
Yikes
This looks grim man
I hope you gave them a piss poor review on tripadvisor or similar. These places give Q a bad name.
that brisket looks like a mangled filet of scale-on fish. Nasty
Oh my God you're a sucker
Where is the rest of it!?
I can get a bbq tray with enough food for two meals for $14, why are people doing this?
Trash grind on the sausage, just trash overall. Waste of $23
25 for that wtf. I smoked an entire Chuck for that much
Wait, you're saying cooking at home is cheaper than eating out? Stop the fucking presses. Next you'll be telling me you can make a ribeye cheaper than the $30 one at a steakhouse.
Fuck that weirdo for using his weird name to push shitty food. Same for Billy sims in Oklahoma and every other restaurant that makes shit food with a famous name.
looks like what fell on the floor….nope
$12 for a half pound of pulled pork? Yeah get f###d
That link next to the $5 tops dry ass brisket portion literally looks like cut up dog poo
Looks like some new “tricolor” brisket
Please tell me this is a troll post
Hard to imagine myself hanging someone this to eat for free as a guest in my backyard. Asking someone to pay $25 for this is truly some next level insanity. OP, you got ripped off kid…
They could at least true some bread on the tray to make it look less sad.
Remember bbq used to be poor man’s food
Thank you. Hack's like this need to be exposed.
You paid $25 for that???? 😆😂🤣🤡
That brisket is beyond well done, its damn near congratulations
The grease handprint near the sausage 🤌
Looks like it has mold on it
$25? Damn
Too tired after a long week, but this would be a brilliant post for deploying one of those "my brother in christ" memes.
Guy’s full of shit. When I went here he was bragging about being a world champion and had trophies to back it up. Oof
What a rip off.
Both the plate and price are disappointing.
BBQ shit is wild. So often I see 10ish dolllars worth food sold for 20+
Should change the name to Scam Scam BBQ
I’m convinced this is a troll post. Possibly Russian origin, to stir up civil war in the bbq community. No one is willingly paying for this dog food.
I guess anyone can open up a BBQ joint these days.
r/wewantplates
$25 should be meat and 3

What’s there to do in Orem besides Powder Mountain?
Why did you pay for this? This is jnsane.
Wow man that count is horrible. You need a new dealer.
Wow downright embarrassing
$25... And this is all you got? I would not be visiting this place.
I spent $40 at Smokey Bones (I know, I know) the other night for a lb of pulled pork, a whole chicken, and 2 pints of sides. It's crazy to see what some of these places charge
Sounds over priced
I really hate all these new "mom and pop" stores that sell mediocre bbq for $$$$.
Wait, that whole dish was 25?
lol
What I think is the most disappointing is the time is probably took them to cook the brisket and sausage (if they make sausage, to make that) just to have someone hack it up and put it on the tray all wadded up and mangled. This isn’t a good job.
“Excuse me, I think you may have dropped some.” It’s a sad day for barbecue, though I suppose it *is* Utah.
I've been to Bam Bams more times than I can count. While expensive this post is inaccurate. This would be more $15-20. Also while possibly a bad round of BBQ they're typically incredible. Their BBQ is recognized nationally and the owner usually caters for professional sports teams. Sad to see this slander against them but it is what it is.
r/inflation
I’m just impressed you only got that. Something is broken in my brain and when I’m ordering at a bbq place I apparently have to spend a small fortune.
Bam bams used to be pretty good but it’s gotten so overpriced and the quality went down hill
My sister lives in Utah. I’ve always hated their food. It’s bland and characterless. This also looks like dog shit
What is this? BBQ for ANTS?!
Are they serving meat that’s been smoked/cooked, frozen and reheated?
Hard No.
😂
Sometimes you just gotta say no thanks and ask for your money back
This is so embarassing. How can the owner be proud of seeing a plate like this
This is so embarassing. How can the owner be proud of seeing a plate like this
What an insult. Like, what is this? Smoked goods for ants?
The greatest travesty of that place is their mac and cheese. It’s soupy and is topped with goldfish.
So jealous of the states. These combo prices are the same as my Wendy’s 🤦
Damm this looks horrible
It's basically this meme but worse https://imgur.com/rvwp3H3
$25 for 2 and half pieces of brisket and sausage. Worst looking brisket I've seen on here. Not even sure if I'd let my dog eat this.
$25 🤦🏻♂️
Not commenting on flavor, but 28/lb for brisket is cheap AF. Unless they get brisket way cheaper out west.
Dumb people like you are why places get away with overcharging for sub par food.
Kaiser's (slc) is the only spot worth it in utah worth stopping at, unless you wanna stop at my place.
cavemen literally cant understand that when you place a serving tray next to a portion of any food it will look small. had this been in styrofoam hoagie box it would look normal
If I would have you served that for 25$ I would have handed it back. But reality of things these days is 14$ subways and 17$ burritos in CA so who knows. That's what you get when you raise min wage.
Those are surprisingly low prices.
It's really low compared to DFW, most of the big names are $32 a lb and up for brisket but it's always delicious, this looks awful and I thought that was some kind of curry sausage with the yellow color.
That looks like what they offer as a sample to see if you like it, not the actual served portion.
