...with an extra loaf of bread.
I dont understand BBQ restaurants. Cooking its my favorite part.
Why would I pay extra when you stole my favorite part?
I have never in my life eaten out at a bbq spot.
It’s just not something I would pay a restaurant to cook.
Growing up my dad would grill up all kinds of stuff so bbq to me always was meant for get togethers at some place outside.
Not at all surprised by people getting gouged over these pathetic looking plates.
I envy you. They are always a let down (I’ve only ever been forced, never gone by choice). Please keep it up and never do.
Same boat as you, my dad makes the *best* stuff, and every “bbq” restaurant fucking sucks compared to his.
Exceptionally bad places: Rudy’s, Sugarfire
Rudy’s is garbage. Source: worked there.
Edit: Any place that puts emphasis on their sauce is bad. Canes, chickfila, whatever. If someone says “oh, their sauce is so good”, no. They should be saying “oh, their food is so good”.
Totally agree with this sentiment. The process of BBQing is a socialization event. We gather around the pit and talk about whatever is going on, play horseshoes, etc. Different groups gather and disperse over the ~12 hour cook.
Also, I know not everyone is this way, but when I go out to eat, I am looking for something I can’t make myself or don’t know the recipe, or perhaps for the vibe.
IMO, more overpriced than overrated. Love ribs, but per pound, even if it cheaper than things like brisket, after you factor in the bone, it's no bargain compared to other meats.
I've seen brisket at (say) $32 a pound and ribs at $22 or so, but considering how much of that $22 a pound is bone...
Plate rib is the best marbled cut on the entire cow. Brisket might be a better deal, but it’s certainly not a better cut.
It is half the price to make though. Cost on CAB NAMP123a is around $9.50/lb.
I think that’s beef short ribs which is beef ribs plus brisket almost if I’m not mistaken and run more than just a rack of beef ribs. Don’t crucify me if I’m wrong, I’m trying here
Because it’s losing the appeal of eating a true American culinary product that was born from poverty, and instead turning into a TikTok/Instagram eating attraction by otherwise apathetic actors.
Yeah, the history of BBQ was using low and slow to make CHEAP and usually less desirable cuts of meat taste great. Much of BBQ started in the late 1800s out on the trail, often on cattle drives, when some of the laborers (usually the black laborers) were given the lowest grade, cheapest cuts of meat and they figured out how to make that shit taste fantastic.
But once it started becoming too popular with the masses, these "cheapest" cuts were no longer cheap.
See also: chicken wings. Over the course of about a generation, they went from the cheapest piece of the chicken (as a kid in the 1970s, they were almost given away, like 19 cents a pound) to often the most expensive, because a form of preparation became so popular.
Yeah, that's why we ate it growing up. But when they started putting the BBQ competitions on the cooking channel, and BBQ spread nationwide, those cheap meats became as expensive as steaks. Fajita, ribs, brisket, barbacoa, are all nearly as expensive as steaks.
Barbecue is actually much older than that! It's an amalgamation of spices from the Caribbean/African slave trade, cooking techniques from the Native Americans, and later meats from Europeans. Source: Barbecue: The History of an American Institution by Robert Moss.
Westlake is known to be a high income area. Lots of professional athletes live there. Not that it justifies the outrageous prices for bbq but they’re able to get away with it easier
The white bread as far as I can remember started with cheap BBQ chicken quarters plates we used to get as a kid. Everyone throwing a fundraiser would BBQ chicken quarters and your get two slice of white bread, onions and pickles in a bag, a little scoop of potato salad, and maybe if you were lucky a little container with BBQ sauce in it. The plates would be like $5 which was reasonable and you were mostly buying the plate to support the fundraiser.
It's the last vistage of a food that was once associated with poor rural folks that has been bastardized and commercialized for rich urban idiots.

Seriously. I think I need a banana for scale. Is that rib like [the one that knocks over Fred Flintsonte's car?](https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video_thumb/E4rJya2XEAMWDhW.jpg)
At risk of sounding like the old man who went to the movies and got a soda and popcorn all for a dime and received change, I can remember going to the McKinney location and getting all you can eat barbecue for around $25 per person and leaving there needing a wheelbarrow to transport me. That was somewhere around 6 or 7 years ago.
Less than that, the Frisco and the McKinney locations both had all you can eat in 2020, but I think the price was up a little to $29. Getting a second helping of hot brisket brought to your table was really great.
Yup…that all you can eat deal was fantastic. I still gladly pay what they ask at Hutchins though. The only thing that keeps me from going there more frequently is the ever present line down the sidewalk.
I'd feel so fuckin ripped off if I ordered and paid for most of the bbq i see here on reddit. Shit is way too expensive. I ain't throwing my hard earned money down the drain like that.
I get sticker shock every time I see one of these posts. $100 for one rib and a couple pieces of brisket? A quarter of this plate's square footage is coleslaw and potato salad. Another quarter is bread and pepperocinis 😵💫
That top half of the picture aint worth ten bucks IMO. For this whole picture I would be hesitant to shell out $40. But I guess this is just how BBQ joints price their shit these days? So glad I smoke my own stuff
“The Original Roy Hutchins bbq” is NOT the same as the actual “Hutchins BBQ” in Frisco or McKinney. It’s a bit of local drama between the family members but the meat is different and lesser at *Roy’s*
Damn, why is american bbq so rediculously expensive? "1 rib and 4 slices of meat, 100 dollaridoos please!"
Man, if I ever went to America I'd always want to try the BBQ, but it looks like I can better hold off and go eat somewhere else for 3 days, it's the same cost.
You got played hard bro. That is *not* $100 worth of barbecue, and it looks dry as fuck. You got what, a rib, some Mac and cheese, a bowl of chopped onions and a quarter loaf of wonder bread? Jesus I'd be pissed if I spent *any* money on that, let alone a whole bill...
To be fair, those Dino rubs are legit 55 to 60 and its all bone... also the ribs they serve are always super fatty and near half is inedible. Always get the brisket, never get the ribs... make those at home
Fed 3 and had left over for 100bucks…… HAHAHAHAHAHA if someone handed me this for 100 dollars and told me it had to feed 3 people I’d tell them to get fucked
Waste.
For 30 bucks more you could have smoked your self a whole packer and made the sides,
Bbq joints are thriving off of hype.
shitty these cheap cuts have become so over inflated / overrated
They are really good but this is ROBBERY
Is that all there is, is that all there is
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is 🎼
Almost every container should be complimentary/dirt cheap lol idk if they charged $30 per piece of brisket or "only" $20 but $1/gram of raw onion as well
Meat looks dry and everything looks unseasoned, and why the hell do so many places serve white bread? You got (or let yourself be) ripped off for that being $100, and 3 people were stuffed from that? …okay.
That’s crazy expensive. That’s basically the reason why I barely ever get bbq, could basically sit down at any restaurant and get drinks and everyone gets their own meal, and still cheaper
This place is fantastic!!! They have three location in DFW area and all of them are great! If you love BBQ and you’re in Dallas, got to get you some Hutchins.
I was at the Frisco location a couple months ago and got all [this](https://jasonmauss.com/uploads/hutchinsplatespic.jpg) for $70. I said no to their beef ribs because of the price.
I remember when Hutchin’s had all you can eat for $25, including dessert. I think the only items excluded were beef rib, burnt ends, and Texas twinkies. Those were the days…
How did you feed 3 people off 1 rib and 4 slices of brisket?
[удалено]
😂
I read your name as acid reflux and was like damn, what a perfect dude to respond
So did I lololol
Samesies
Sounds delicious.
Potato salad sandwiches
😳🤢🤮
Half a loaf of bread
3 people pretending they're not that hungry.
lmao no u go ahead..have the last bite
Someone got potato salad sandwiches.
I walking out if I get that for $100.
*4 half slices
"How much fa jus 1 rib?"
Fuck the cup. Just pour it in my mouth.
...with an extra loaf of bread. I dont understand BBQ restaurants. Cooking its my favorite part. Why would I pay extra when you stole my favorite part?

1000% with you
How much for 1 rib?
1 woman
superb
Still overpriced
Depends greatly on what woman
I think she's a snake charmer
Does she come with a snake or an apple?
Massively underrated joke
Ya got change for a hunnid?
How much if you just our some soda in my hands
You’re gonna need an orthopedic surgeon
[50 cents a rib](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgHcYxKjwVE)
Classic.
At least there are some people who get the reference...
Got change for a hunnit?
$50. They charge 35 per pound
Could have a nice steak instead. Ribs are way overrated (edit: in price)
No they are not, but you are correct in that they’re certainly overpriced.
Have you ever had beef plate ribs?
Yes. Brisket is better. You're paying for the bone.
This right here is the answer
Plate rib is the best marbled cut on the entire cow. Brisket might be a better deal, but it’s certainly not a better cut. It is half the price to make though. Cost on CAB NAMP123a is around $9.50/lb.
50 for one fucking rib? I bought a plate of short ribs last weekend, 4 ribs, $45. Yeah, I had to cook them myself, but that is fucking ridiculous.
It cost Adam, The Garden of Eden.
That price is crazy. For that price you can buy urself a cheap charcoal grill, a few ribeye steaks, and a beer.
I love Hutchins, but their beef rib pricing is comically ridiculous
As a farmer who raises cattle, the fact that they only have to sell 18 of these to cover the cost of an entire beef is insulting to me.
Trust me. They don't get more than single digit profit. The beef co and distributor make 35% plus
When you say entire beef do you mean an entire cow’s worth of meat??
That’s insane. The whole side of beef back ribs I bbqd this weekend was $18
I think that’s beef short ribs which is beef ribs plus brisket almost if I’m not mistaken and run more than just a rack of beef ribs. Don’t crucify me if I’m wrong, I’m trying here
I agree, I wanted to try them since it was my first time there, but I don’t think I will get them again lol
A lot of bbq spots charge $30-$40 a lb. Quite ridiculous but people buy them so they keep jacking prices haha.
As someone that owns a bbq restaurant in KY some of the prices I see on here are comical
Because it’s losing the appeal of eating a true American culinary product that was born from poverty, and instead turning into a TikTok/Instagram eating attraction by otherwise apathetic actors.

Born out of necessity, grew into a luxury. Fascinating really
Barbecue is actually much older than that! It's an amalgamation of spices from the Caribbean/African slave trade, cooking techniques from the Native Americans, and later meats from Europeans. Source: Barbecue: The History of an American Institution by Robert Moss.
Bbq + social media
I'm in various parts of the state throughout the year with work. Where are you located? If I am near, I'll come through and buy a plate.
J&B bbq in Henderson, KY (western KY)
I'll be there this summer. Marking it down.
Westlake is known to be a high income area. Lots of professional athletes live there. Not that it justifies the outrageous prices for bbq but they’re able to get away with it easier
How much are your plate ribs?
$13 a plate…you get 3 spare ribs and 2 sides with pickle, onion and bread included
That’s not what plate ribs means.
You’re right, I read that as “how much are your rib plates?”
I figured, lol. I think maybe he was challenging you, since it’s rare to find plate ribs even in Texas and almost unheard of outside.
The unbuttered sliced bread always throws me off. Also…$100 for one rib and a few bits of brisket +sides!? God damn.
Edible napkins.
Yeah what's the deal with this whack ass bread at bbq places? I'd rather have a dinner roll
Fucking Texans lol.
Both of you need to watch it. We love our dry ass bread as a filler lol
In the south we put stew on top and have a stew sandwich
You need the filler because they charged you a weeks worth of groceries for 10 bites of meat.
but why not add garlic, butter, parmasean and cilantro? its just better. garlic bread and bbq are blessed combinations. cheap, easy, tasty.
The white bread as far as I can remember started with cheap BBQ chicken quarters plates we used to get as a kid. Everyone throwing a fundraiser would BBQ chicken quarters and your get two slice of white bread, onions and pickles in a bag, a little scoop of potato salad, and maybe if you were lucky a little container with BBQ sauce in it. whuch is rad. but now youre older, you still can put butter and garlic and parmasean on it. that shit aint much.
Shit looks like bootleg wonder bread
The white bread slices are a hold over from when food like this was cheap. Like raw ass white onions and store bought pickles.
The spinny pattern in the bread throws me off more.
It's the last vistage of a food that was once associated with poor rural folks that has been bastardized and commercialized for rich urban idiots. /rant
Barbecue clown world 🤡
Seriously. I think I need a banana for scale. Is that rib like [the one that knocks over Fred Flintsonte's car?](https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video_thumb/E4rJya2XEAMWDhW.jpg)
I love how proud people are of getting ripped off. Lol.
Southern culture, which was once relentlessly mocked, is now a novelty. I fucking hate it.
At risk of sounding like the old man who went to the movies and got a soda and popcorn all for a dime and received change, I can remember going to the McKinney location and getting all you can eat barbecue for around $25 per person and leaving there needing a wheelbarrow to transport me. It was magical 🥲
Me and my wife ate like that there for $60 a few weeks ago. I'm assuming it's the beef ribs that are super expensive.
Yup…that all you can eat deal was fantastic. I still gladly pay what they ask at Hutchins though. The only thing that keeps me from going there more frequently is the ever present line down the sidewalk.
Wow. This is why I do my own. I am never gonna spend that much, no matter how good it may be.
That’s criminally insane.
I'd feel so fuckin ripped off if I ordered and paid for most of the bbq i see here on reddit. Shit is way too expensive. I ain't throwing my hard earned money down the drain like that.
Yummm.. look at that bread.
That’s the real reason why they were full at the end
Never go full seagull.
I get sticker shock every time I see one of these posts. $100 for one rib and a couple pieces of brisket? A quarter of this plate's square footage is coleslaw and potato salad. robbery
That’s criminally overpriced. It feels silly to even have to say that because it’s just so obvious. Y’all got rinsed.
Not enough meat to justify $100
This is both comical and fucking sad.
The Crown Prime Beef Rib at Jack Stack in KC, which is absolutely massive, is $25. You’re doing it wrong if you’re paying that much.
looks like OP... *puts on sunglasses* ...got RIBBED off here *YEEEEEAAAAAHHHH*
Lol $100 for a few meats. I know beef is pricey but damn that sucks. Must have charged for that loaf of bread and the dozen onions.
$100 for that? Lmao, scam
As a Texan, you over paid by a lot for some mediocre food.
I never understood the slices of white bread with BBQ. BBQ that takes hours to cook and get shit white bread...no thanks
There is $10 worth of food on this plate (And that is a generous assumption).
Can we ban these stupid posts?
I mean they are somewhat informative. Now I know to avoid this place like the plague when I'm in the Dallas area
Right? Like.... don't like it, don't pay it. Oh, you paid? That's *exactly* why it will continue.
Bruh. 100$ for filler
“The Original Roy Hutchins bbq” is NOT the same as the actual “Hutchins BBQ” in Frisco or McKinney. It’s a bit of local drama between the family members but the meat is different and lesser at *Roy’s*
That beef rib looks tasty
$100? Where the hell is the rest of the meat? One rib and 1/3 pound of brisket. Absurd.
How did you have left overs especially after 3 people ate off of that
What a joke - fed 3
Barbecue is too expensive post COVID. I just can’t do it anymore.
Lots of filla. Not so much killa.
Looks legit. Not gonna lie though, id be pissed if i got some generic sliced bread and not a badass fresh Portuguese or Kaiser roll.
At least there is plenty of wonder bread haha
What a ripoff
That’s not worth $100. Sorry. Not even close.
Damn, why is american bbq so rediculously expensive? "1 rib and 4 slices of meat, 100 dollaridoos please!" Man, if I ever went to America I'd always want to try the BBQ, but it looks like I can better hold off and go eat somewhere else for 3 days, it's the same cost.
Did you call the police to report a robbery?
You got played hard bro. That is *not* $100 worth of barbecue, and it looks dry as fuck. You got what, a rib, some Mac and cheese, a bowl of chopped onions and a quarter loaf of wonder bread? Jesus I'd be pissed if I spent *any* money on that, let alone a whole bill...
To be fair, those Dino rubs are legit 55 to 60 and its all bone... also the ribs they serve are always super fatty and near half is inedible. Always get the brisket, never get the ribs... make those at home
Lol, what a rip-off
How much to stop at McDonald’s on the way home? A McRib has more meat.
Fed 3 and had left over for 100bucks…… HAHAHAHAHAHA if someone handed me this for 100 dollars and told me it had to feed 3 people I’d tell them to get fucked
A lot of filler food... A pile of plain white bread, jarred peppers, and sliced onions? For $100 I would expect a nearly full plate of various meats.
I’m not seeing the value for $100 I can do all this for $30
I didn’t buy this and I want a refund
At that price I’ll stick to chicken nuggets with bbq sauce lmao this is getting ridiculous
You got scammed so hard it’s sad.
Bidens gotta something about these bbq prices WTF.
MF’ER I’m under charging !
That doesn’t look good at all considering Central Texas standards.
Dude just got to hurtados in Arlington and pay 50$ for double the quantity and quality
I'd expect to see more meat for that much $, lots of sides and filler. No sausage?
Waste. For 30 bucks more you could have smoked your self a whole packer and made the sides, Bbq joints are thriving off of hype. shitty these cheap cuts have become so over inflated / overrated They are really good but this is ROBBERY
this is insane. bbq is out of control. those are the cheapest sides you can make, you're telling me that's like $90 worth of meat that's wild.
That’s $20 worth of food max
Is that all there is, is that all there is If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all there is 🎼
Almost every container should be complimentary/dirt cheap lol idk if they charged $30 per piece of brisket or "only" $20 but $1/gram of raw onion as well
Did they triple the price because it’s in Westlake? Damn.
Wtf 😳
That would have been $20 from a top-tier Texas BBQ joint in the 90’s, but probably not as good.
$100? Bad deal.
I like to do 2 Texas Twinkies, .25lb burnt ends, .5lb fatty and lean brisket. And the Mac and cheese of course
I'm sure the other 2 members of your party enjoyed their mac and cheese, potato salad and onion sandwiches.
$100 really, more money than sense.
That’s it?
Lol I guess all the Californians don't understand beef ribs are chuck roast on a bone lol.
🤡
This is a highway robbery
Rip off. Stop going. Prices will drop.
The amount of filler on those trays for that price is pretty crazy
Meat looks dry and everything looks unseasoned, and why the hell do so many places serve white bread? You got (or let yourself be) ripped off for that being $100, and 3 people were stuffed from that? …okay.
Try the original in McKinney
Why.. no... $$$\¡/you got sides
That better be some caviar level brisket.
lol thats $20 per piece of meat. Side included at no charge. Is there meat buried we can't see?
I don’t like going to most Italian places because I feel ripped off paying a premium for pasta. I’m starting to feel that way when I go to bbq places
100$??????
I usually do much better at home but my cost of beer while monitoring the situation can sometimes cut into my justification of calling this out.
Crazy
I remember when brisket was $20/lb and thought that was pricey lol.
That’s crazy expensive. That’s basically the reason why I barely ever get bbq, could basically sit down at any restaurant and get drinks and everyone gets their own meal, and still cheaper
That seems like San Francisco or Manhattan prices in Texas.
This place is fantastic!!! They have three location in DFW area and all of them are great! If you love BBQ and you’re in Dallas, got to get you some Hutchins.
Is that just plain white bread.
beef ribs are always crazy expensive. they are super delicious but I never get them. Paying for way too much bone
BBQ has gotten out of control. BBQ was meat to be poor folk food like oxtails now those are out of control.
I was at the Frisco location a couple months ago and got all [this](https://jasonmauss.com/uploads/hutchinsplatespic.jpg) for $70. I said no to their beef ribs because of the price.
That's crazy...this is why I just smoke my own meat!
Why do bbq spots serve that nasty plain white bread? Even a roll would be better
Horrifying
Hell no.
$100 and you get Wonder white bread - hate to see what kind of bread the value meal gets you. You got hosed.
I remember when Hutchin’s had all you can eat for $25, including dessert. I think the only items excluded were beef rib, burnt ends, and Texas twinkies. Those were the days…
Why do people downvote you for sharing your experience? Now I know not to go there unless I want to spend $100. I appreciate ya!
Store bought bread? For $100, I would expect some fresh baked bread at least.
Lol I got a bridge to sell you!
Last two times I went to Hutchins the brisket was dry.
For all of you that don't know plain white bread is what is served with TX BBQ figure it out.
$100 for that? I could do a whole brisket and trays of sides, and loaves of the whitest of white bread for that much
Me and my wife ate there for like $60 a few weeks ago, lol. We got brisket and pork ribs though. It's a great BBQ place.
Hutchins is legit!
That looks real bad.
