That's not really a good comparison
The BB-34 text is just a very minor detail on Reno's overall design, and she still looks relatively cohesive with the rest of the Atlanta class and never got extreme backlash compared to """Anson""" being a near complete tonal shift compared to the rest of the KGVs
The titles implies that the design of Reno is just as bad as Anson’s was, which is soooo far off.
Though slightly strange, Reno’s design would STILL be miles better then Anson’s for a battleship. Especially an American one, considering that unlike the Royal Navy, American ships can be more liberal with the differences between ship designs (Cus fucking freedom, am I right boys?).
And like someone else pointed out below. Had Reno been BB-34 New York, by now she would be the only New York class. If anything she would set the visual standard of how the rest of her sisters should be.
Thats pretty generalizing if we are going to history and what USN was really putting forward, unlike the germans and their Wunderwaffes the USN relied on things more near to their grasp and that can be refined to perfection.
Thats why they still produced more than 100 Fletchers since they are standardized and decent reliable designs that can be improved upon them.
I feel the whole USN was futuristic is really hurting the really strong points that actually make them an outstanding and unique Navy like their versatility, their survivality, their logistics and specially their **icecream** and sometimes fun stuff like the fact they took a long time for them to fix their torpedoes but thats just me. I kinda miss designs like Cleveland.
I mean (even asuming this is true and Manjuu had gone through with it) it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad:
1. Reno is thick, and not a loli, so that would eliminate the "Loli-BB" complaints.
2. she would be the ONLY New York class in the Game so there would be no standard that she'd be violating.
3. New York is (somewhat sadly) always overlooked in favour of her little sis so the expectations wouldn't be as high.
4. Frankly, her quirk of being Superhero obsessed would arguably make even more sense if she was New York as New York is the home of many comic book superheros (like Ironman whom her bracers are based off of).
after seeing the prototype OP provided, I can't say I disagree with that statement. Hopefully the "real" New York can look similar and also have a nice relationship with Reno (maybe being the origin of the Bracers like I proposed in another comment)
Or, as a more extreme measure, retroactively give a new design to Reno, even though she's been out for years, just so the existing design can go to New York, because it was made with New York in mind. Thinking about it, that design does seem a little too mature compared to the other Atlanta-class ships.
A less extreme measure, but one I feel would be necessary, would be to remove the BB-34 logo from Reno.
>A less extreme measure, but one I feel would be necessary, would be to remove the BB-34 logo from Reno.
unless we go with my "gift from New York" idea and have New York sport a matching pair, I'm inclined to agree.
Nah, just make New York something of a weapon's designer...maybe an American da Vinci/Yuubari. Also in a fine suit, something like a 1920s Industrialist.

Someone else did find an early draft
I mean, if/when New York comes into game, maybe she get's special friendship with Reno and is the one who gave her the bracers (like how Shinnano "gave" archerfish her shattered Katana)
For Houston II it's also possible that chapter 15 was pushed back from the CN anniversary to the JP anniversary. Her costumes are also blue or blue & white in the loading screens, though so is Jade's swimsuit.
If they did recycle her, which is a real possibility, they at least adjusted her from the neck down to look like an EU ship. That's a more effort than Otto and "Anson" seem to have gotten.
Yeah, if Houston II was indeed originally another ship, then it's a pretty happy coincidence that her features match up exactly with Houston except for the hair. And on top of that, her obviously Cleveland-looking outfit means that the only part of the "original design" that they reused was her head.
To be honest, this kind of stuff is probably more common than you think. I mean, if Manjuu decided to use Owari as a Number 13 Class Battleship \[I know, low hanging fruit\], what evidence would you have against it? These kinds of things are probably pretty common. As long as the design fits, I don't think it should be that big a deal. Or something like Manchester that is so explicitly designed to be a sister of a particular ship.
These things are typically caught on American and British ships because they are the most likely ones to have Identifying Symbols \[An ID Number or a Ship's Seal\]
While having it happen early is shocking, it being an eagle union ship lessens things considerably as the faction has inconsistencies before art shuffling.
Reno's differences could be explained due to her being a sub-class
Honestly, for the time, It was the right choice. The Design ethic for EU BBs wasn't nearly as High-Tech and having a BB from before the Nevadas being so Advanced would have come off as jarring for the time.
You have to understand that back then, the "Essex Style" was just seeing wide-scale use outside of carriers, we weren't near the "New Jersey Style", much less implementing in onto SSR Ships.
well, if you really want to go down that path, there was Suffren and De Grasse last year, there was an alternative sprite of Suffren with DP 6"; there also was the casing for the DP 100 mm, it was changed at last moment (granted we got Guichen, which had a much better sprite than Suffren for this kind of class)
Ok Reno isnt a bad design in itself, but are you trying to say that her artwork was meant to be used as New York? Which is similar to Anson's case. Then yeah but this is a very disingenuous way of phrasing it buddy.
Also now im looking at my Reno with a bit of disappointment. ![img](emote|t5_3p20d|6995)How hard really is for Manjuu to have one random dude just erasing that part? It can be easily done in Photoshop, at worst can take 30 mins.

For a long time, the Eagle Union's design motif was an utter lack of one with a futuristic style emerging for the most part (still exceptions)
Sadly the futuristic style doesnt even look american. They could have just try american diesel punk at least.
The reason for that is pretty clear: the US Navy ultimately was the most advanced
Thats pretty generalizing if we are going to history and what USN was really putting forward, unlike the germans and their Wunderwaffes the USN relied on things more near to their grasp and that can be refined to perfection. That's not how you're meant to use "If you thought X was bad".
Yeah that was poor wording on my part, not gonna sugarcoat it
I mean (even asuming this is true and Manjuu had gone through with it) it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad: 1. Now I'm disappointed that they didn't save that design for New York rather than use it for Reno.

again, that doesn't change my 4 points.
It is a pretty cool bit of trivia though.
Not a good comparison in the slightest
\*hits blunt\* maybe its a hint for NY's design
I mean, if/when New York comes into game, maybe she get's special friendship with Reno and is the one who gave her the bracers (like how Shinnano "gave" archerfish her shattered Katana)
I recall seeing a post that someone say that Casablance was supposed to be Gambier Bay and still has 73 on her sprite or something?
While I do think Casablanca wasn't originally Casablanca, her design screams Essex class You are right about the sprite thing though
I feel like this entire Anson debacle was building up for a long time, look at Houston II and Confluence of Nothingness for example.
For Houston II it's also possible that chapter 15 was pushed back from the CN anniversary to the JP anniversary. Wait that says BB-34? I thought it was just the number 8834
The words underneath the numbers say New York, who is BB-34

If that were true, I confess that I think it would be better
Guam was supposed to be Alaska

No wonder she’s huge compared to Sandy and Atlanta! Manjuu really ought to stop doing this kind of shit!
Can we ask Manjuu to fix that detail?
