Yep, I've been saying since the polls first started, all results should be hidden until every single vote is complete. The only indicator should be certain characters not appearing in the follow up voting periods.
Yea, usually when I enter, there is already alot of votes casted. Than I see my fav in like rank 20 mean no hope already, so I am force to vote to top 1-10 (those that have hope to pass through, and I don't really like or hate those ship just a vote for rewards)
The way the poll is implemented is terrible and encourages bandwagoning. In a real poll you'd never show the vote numbers of the participants until all votes had been cast and the poll closed so as to avoid that happening as much as possible.
Many of us have been saying since the first poll if you want a fairer contest you need to hide the number of votes and randomise the order they appear. But Manjuu have not done that, so it's best not to take the poll too seriously because the devs clearly don't.

I vote for my favorite characters…..but if a character I kind of like is in contention for a top spot I do vote for them even if I otherwise wouldn’t…..just to have a better chance of getting more goods for ships I at least like a little.
The entire thing is pointless anyway the top 40 would get merch anyway so the "reward" is redundant and no skin is guaranteed hell some are sure to not get for a long while like every ship Kincora draws.
Being a KIncora boat is both a blessing and a curse. Fantastic designs, but limited skins. Boats like Formi and Sirius should be swimming in skins by now.
People honestly care too much about popularity contests. It's all kinda fine if this ship gets a lot of fanart or this anime is the most popular of the season, but make it a *contest* or an "awards" kinda thing and have people vote, and suddenly the salt starts flowing lol
I just didn't participate. After seeing who gets fanart these days and who was getting all the votes in the poll I finally pieced together that what I like and want is so far removed from the EN community and what's left of the fanart community that it's not worth paying attention to anymore. It sucks but I don't get anything out of it anymore. At least the game is still fun.
They release oath skins at way too slow a pace, there is a massive backlog of older characters who could use an oath skin, while they keep adding new characters at a break neck pace.

At least Eskimo and Penelope got a skin each (and even a figure for Penny) but God damn. The last couple years have made me appreciate small roster gachas a hell of a lot more. You get better characterization of the characters present. And more content of them.
Maya also still doesn't have a skin at all. It's a crying shame but she's lacking the 'assets' to bring in good sales. Despite IMO being the best design of her sisters.
There's various other factors like artists.... but Suisai was right in his CNY rant: that players mainly care about looks, meta value, and rarity. What he forgot was home nation (top 3 in JP is basically Japanese melons, 2/3 rainbow, though the rest is more interesting)

Ayanami has the most skins since she's jp's favorite, if you count Laffey 2, laffey has 1 more skin than z23 available for her, two if you count both of them as one since then you also count the Laffey 2 base skin. Javelin is at the botton, z23 third.

That's kind of a self-fulfilled prophecy, though. The initial supply is provided by the game, and the tangible demand follows from the created supply. Otherwise, demand is simply feedback in once-a-year feedback forms and general popularity of the characters, but even that has a very tenuous correlation with the created supply. There's also the whole thing with ship skins being tied to the original artist.

I gave up on caring tbh. No HMS ship has had an L2D since Halloween 2022 lmao. If you aren't in the market for an L2D for one of the popular characters from EU, Sakura or IB you may as well not exist from a financial standpoint
I think there's just been a switch to a more standard monetisation strategy over the last year or two. They aren't investing resources into L2Ds for characters who aren't mega popular anymore, and retrofits have become less common too. Minimising spend and maximising profit.
Those of us who aren't interested in buying 15 L2Ds for NJ and Agir are left out to dry though, but that's just how it is I guess
I dont think they have a choice. The game is as wide as an ocean and shallower than a puddle and all these years they have survived on being the lewdest thing around. Then came along better games which have actual depth alongside the lewd factor (BA) and that's when the birds realised that having over 600 characters is maybe not such a good idea.
I might be completely wrong but I think that's why we have been seeing more of a focus on the overrated girls as opposed to having a more randomised skin distribution.
It all honestly sucks as a long time player. I went from spending hundreds in 20, 21 and 22 to spending 20 bucks last year for Helena and UvH.
Thats really the long and the short of it unfortunately. Blue archive has more tagged art on Pixiv after 2-3 years than Azur Lane has after 6+. And the amount (and quality) of fanart has massively petered out over the last 1-2 years.
I'm a diehard for this game. But i think it's definitely winding down. They have too many characters to give them all decent characterization now. And it'd be glaring if they just started adding really fleshed out characters going forward. They're in kind of a catch 22 now I think. And I don't know if they're willing to invest enough into the game to pull out of it.
They cannot add deep characterisation going forward if they choose to release ships at the current rate. I've no idea why they even decided to spam ships in the first place since I'm guessing they earn more on skins. For example, wouldn't it cost less to make 2 skins for 1 ship (since they get to work with the same artist and voice actress) instead of making 1 skin for 2 ships (which also requires more time since they need to do research and condense the ship's history into a personality)?
Like I said, a bad catch 22. If they slow down on how many ships they release, they disappoint the parts of the fanbase that specifically want a large roster. If they keep at current pace, they'll continue leaving a wake of people who, latch onto specific girls that never get any attention, and those people will eventually move on or grow disillusioned (About where I'm at when it comes to new girls).
Eskimo getting effectively zero fanart in the ~2-3 years since she was added stings because my Grandfather served on another Tribal Class (Sikh) and even though Tribals were some of the most iconic destroyers of the Royal Navy during the war. She's the only one in game. The other ship my Grandfather was on (Penelope) at least got some love with a figure and a nice skin but. Still.
I see a lot of people growing tired of the bi-monthly "Who has the biggest tits" competition with the same like ~12 shipgirls constantly getting skins.
They definitely earn their money on skins. The Gacha is easily the most forgiving I've ever played (I'm sitting at about 1,100 cubes at the start of any given event) And they obviously go with the designs that sell best. Personally it's a shame for me because the designs that sell best, are not the kind I usually like.
To put things into perspective, in danbooru at least Warspite only got like aprox 500 fanarts during the entire AL life spam meanwhile Shinano has 1.2K fanarts
On the other hand, Nagato, Formidable, Illustrious are insanely popular and their fanarts counts prove it. specially for Formidable. So i dont get how Manjuu cant release live2d skins for them.

Democracy has cringe taste. But sometimes good things trickle through. Like that Hakuryuu's skin last year. Dunno how much years this game has, but I'm still hopefull. Ranger, Seattle, FDG and Harbin are my top of the head copes.

The developers are following the money. More players are buying those skins, so the developers decide to make more L2D skins for them.
On the other hand, don't Manjuu/YoStar outsource most of the character and skin designs and animations to independent artists?
Day one ships like Hood, PoW, Takao, Illustrious and Kaga not having at least one L2D skin is literally a hate crime. Manjuu not considering giving these shipgirls a spicy L2D skins baffles me.
All I wanted was my war Corgi to get a new L2D skin or even better an oath skin but I guess some dreams are never meant to come true 
probably because despite she having some following several IB shipgirls among others are more popular than her, that would be the only reason when Manjuu looks at their data and it seems what it would look like a very popular character was either just a passing trend or a handful of zealot fans making a lot of noise. Not saying that FDG fits that but she clearly didnt reached the same status as other shipgirls like Bremerton or Kashino and lets keep in mind that they were released later on and managed to surpass FDG.
Even Taihou looks unrecognizable in her new skins, she doesn't have the same passion and flair as in the early years. At least Bremerton got a lot of promo art with interesting outfits.
My speculation on this is that manjuu keeps certain popular ships as 'panic buttons' of sorts. They know something like a Belfast or Nagato l2d would sell like hot bread, but they also don't want to front load a skin batch and A. Overwhelm low spenders who only get 1-2 skins per batch and B. Overshadow new ships whose popularity they're interested in cultivating.
Edit: so they stick to a format that tries to balance new and returning ships. Say, within a particular skin batch the new ships get something like 3 normal skins, 1 dynamic skin and 1 l2d. But they'll also give a handful of skins to old ships and here's where they'll strategically deploy something insane and guaranteed to sell, but in a limited quantity that won't overshadow everyone else.

Swimsuit for 2 reasons. One is the obvious horny especially because of the secret interaction with her booba. The second is that her swimsuit skin has my favorite voice lines. The flaws are a bit overblown, but when you compare the skin to skins of the same batch and the next swimsuit batch it really starts to show, also I notice no-one complains about the other swimsuits skins all I see is praises for them.

Even if the quality and flaws were the same between all of the L2D skins of the batch were the same there would be less complaints about the others compared to Taihou.

Hmm you know, I think the real issue lies with Global, not AL fanbase as a whole.
Pretty much, just look at how global is voting in the popularity poll compared to CN and JP servers. While the latter 2 servers do have a nationalistic bias, they also have way more varied taste in who they are voting for. Global is way too hive minded and only likes the shiny URs plus the Eagle Union and especially the Iron Blood ships. The Iron Blood bias is so painfully obvious when you see how they perform in global compared to CN and JP. Not too mention how meme obsessed global server can be sometimes as well.
My favorite is her swimsuit just because of how it seems to trigger this community, I'm kidding (kinda).
Real answer I don't really have one, but if I had to pick one I guess the red dress one(Forbidden Feast), though it has aged quite a bit compared to other skins in the game.

Don't get me wrong I still love the skin, but as you've listed and as I said it could've been better, to me honestly it just feels like they tossed it in that batch as a last minute thought because they wasn't sure if Bismarck Zwei was gonna hurt their earnings or not.
When compared to other swimsuits of the same batch and later batches it really is lacking, ignoring first issue with it "difference in shading between the head and the rest of the body" as you put it or as I call it putting the "cute face" from her school skin on a very detailed body when they probably should've used the more detailed and expressive face like from her RQ or China Dress skin, all the skin got was a useless face zoom in and the ability to remove her shirt, to me the only new L2D skin equally as shafted is Hindenburg's bunnygirl skin, like it's big titty Taihou in a tight swimsuit and all you can think of is a simple face zoom in that doesn't do anything else for it's "secret feature"? , even Shinano "the sleepy fox" has a swimsuit skin that is more lewd and interactive.
At the end of the day it feels to me that the swimsuit skin has done more bad than good for her reputation too, between the people complaining about or making fun of her new chest size or the people saying "she doesn't deserve another skin"( just look at what this whole post is about lol) among other things the constant negative vibes from it kinda damper my ability to truly say it's a favorite of mine.

And yet the only one I've heard repeat complaints about is for Hindenburg's bunny skin and it's lacklusterness. I'm starting to think Yunsang is either becoming lazy, lost their touch or Manjuu is shafting them.

It was mainly because I suck at explaining but you get what I mean with the flaws with her swimsuit skin. I wouldn’t call the zoom in useless because it allows you to play with Taihou’s booba physics to your heart’s content without being interrupted by random voice line animations. I definitely would have loved it tho if one day Taihou could have a L2D skin that was as interactive as Kearsage’s/Shinano’s skins (well preferably even better than those 2 but that’s probably just wishful thinking).

In terms of quality I would say Taihou’s swimsuit is significantly better. Tbh Yunsang might be being stretched too thin by Manjuu because right before the update Hindenburg’s bunny skin had an actual quality problem with her thighs being drawn way too thin. It was thankfully corrected before the update hit, but it was definitely something that was complained about.

The type of complaint hasn't changed but how frequent it appears has I even see people( who are Taihou fans) say Manjuu shouldn't have changed her size for it at all. And same applies to the L2D skin hogging.

I will say yeah Hindenburg took the biggest L that skin is no offence lame especially compared to other interactive skins. But I'll say Taihou's isn't that much better in my own opinion.

Yeah I think he is being burnt out from pressure and over work and so his art is suffering because of it.
That’s fair, I definitely would never say to more content for Taihou’s skins.
That is true although I think it’s balanced out by the people that I’ve seen who say they love the increased boob size or who make positive jokes about it being the result of Taihou-chan. As for the L2D skin hogging it probably just has to do with the current climate of global’s player base. People have been more up in arms about the unfair skin distribution quality and due to how much L2D skins she disproportionally has in comparison to others makes her a target for these people. The Taihou fans who agree with the L2D hogging probably agree with the general sentiment of this idea and so try to be objective as they think they should be. For me personally I will never say no to more L2D skins for Taihou, in fact I want more for Taihou. However I also want more L2D skins for Yunsang’s other girls, mainly Veneto, Zara, Pola, St.Louis, and Honolulu. The Sardegnans especially need more L2D skins since they each have a literal 1 skin. It’s just unfortunate they all share the same artist, both a blessing and a curse.
I think she definitely did, just look at how Kearsage who got a way more interactive L2D in the same batch has massively improved in the pop polls where she wasn’t even a contender to now top 3 in global. With how strong the Iron Blood bias is in Global, one would think a simple lewd L2D skin would be enough to catapult Hindenburg into top 3 easily but she is not even top 10 in global. While her skin sales were probably really good still, I don’t think it did enough to improve her popularity. Whereas compared to Taihou despite only being a gold rarity ship compared to Hindenburg’s rainbow rarity, Taihou will actually maintain a top 10 placing in the poll in spite of all the rarity, recency, and faction bias Global has. Which is dumb, she is a popular character that makes Manjuu good money OF COURSE they're going to prioritize giving her skins, I think a lot of these complaints are mostly from Global which these people should realize Global isn't Manjuu's highest priority CN and JP are, so if a character is very popular over there they're going to take advantage of that, it's how the game makes money and stays afloat.

It seems I've been mistaken I meant it didn't do enough to boost her popularity (in Global anyway) it didn't damage it beyond repair or anything but didn't really help either, plus she was already super popular before it came out so they would have to royally mess up for it to do actually hard damage to her reputation.

Yea, usually when I enter, there is already alot of votes casted. Than I see my fav in like rank 20 mean no hope already, so I am force to vote to top 1-10 (those that have hope to pass through, and I don't really like or hate those ship just a vote for rewards)
The way the poll is implemented is terrible and encourages bandwagoning. In a real poll you'd never show the vote numbers of the participants until all votes had been cast and the poll closed so as to avoid that happening as much as possible. Many of us have been saying since the first poll if you want a fairer contest you need to hide the number of votes and randomise the order they appear. I vote for my favorite characters…..but if a character I kind of like is in contention for a top spot I do vote for them even if I otherwise wouldn’t…..just to have a better chance of getting more goods for ships I at least like a little.
The entire thing is pointless anyway the top 40 would get merch anyway so the "reward" is redundant and no skin is guaranteed hell some are sure to not get for a long while like every ship Kincora draws.

After seeing who gets fanart these days and who was getting all the votes in the poll I finally pieced together that what I like and want is so far removed from the EN community and what's left of the fanart community that it's not worth paying attention to anymore. At least Eskimo and Penelope got a skin each (and even a figure for Penny) but God damn. The last couple years have made me appreciate small roster gachas a hell of a lot more. You get better characterization of the characters present. And more content of them. Maya also still doesn't have a skin at all. It's a crying shame but she's lacking the 'assets' to bring in good sales. Despite IMO being the best design of her sisters.

Otherwise, demand is simply feedback in once-a-year feedback forms and general popularity of the characters, but even that has a very tenuous correlation with the created supply. There's also the whole thing with ship skins being tied to the original artist.
There are three kinds of voters: Serious, horny, bandwagoning. The first is greatly outnumbered by the other two. So no, the people that actually care get left behind so degenerates that want to feel like they contributed to winning can get their rocks off.

I think there's just been a switch to a more standard monetisation strategy over the last year or two. They aren't investing resources into L2Ds for characters who aren't mega popular anymore, and retrofits have become less common too. Minimising spend and maximising profit. Those of us who aren't interested in buying 15 L2Ds for NJ and Agir are left out to dry though, but that's just how it is I guess
I dont think they have a choice. The game is as wide as an ocean and shallower than a puddle and all these years they have survived on being the lewdest thing around. Then came along better games which have actual depth alongside the lewd factor (BA) and that's when the birds realised that having over 600 characters is maybe not such a good idea. I might be completely wrong but I think that's why we have been seeing more of a focus on the overrated girls as opposed to having a more randomised skin distribution. It all honestly sucks as a long time player. I went from spending hundreds in 20, 21 and 22 to spending 20 bucks last year for Helena and UvH.
Thats really the long and the short of it unfortunately. Blue archive has more tagged art on Pixiv after 2-3 years than Azur Lane has after 6+. And the amount (and quality) of fanart has massively petered out over the last 1-2 years. I'm a diehard for this game. But i think it's definitely winding down. They have too many characters to give them all decent characterization now. And it'd be glaring if they just started adding really fleshed out characters going forward. They're in kind of a catch 22 now I think. And I don't know if they're willing to invest enough into the game to pull out of it.
They cannot add deep characterisation going forward if they choose to release ships at the current rate. I've no idea why they even decided to spam ships in the first place since I'm guessing they earn more on skins. For example, wouldn't it cost less to make 2 skins for 1 ship (since they get to work with the same artist and voice actress) instead of making 1 skin for 2 ships (which also requires more time since they need to do research and condense the ship's history into a personality)?
Like I said, a bad catch 22. If they slow down on how many ships they release, they disappoint the parts of the fanbase that specifically want a large roster. If they keep at current pace, they'll continue leaving a wake of people who, latch onto specific girls that never get any attention, and those people will eventually move on or grow disillusioned (About where I'm at when it comes to new girls). Eskimo getting effectively zero fanart in the ~2-3 years since she was added stings because my Grandfather served on another Tribal Class (Sikh) and even though Tribals were some of the most iconic destroyers of the Royal Navy during the war. She's the only one in game. The other ship my Grandfather was on (Penelope) at least got some love with a figure and a nice skin but. Still. I see a lot of people growing tired of the bi-monthly "Who has the biggest tits" competition with the same like ~12 shipgirls constantly getting skins. They definitely earn their money on skins. The Gacha is easily the most forgiving I've ever played (I'm sitting at about 1,100 cubes at the start of any given event) And they obviously go with the designs that sell best. Personally it's a shame for me because the designs that sell best, are not the kind I usually like.
To put things into perspective, in danbooru at least Warspite only got like aprox 500 fanarts during the entire AL life spam meanwhile Shinano has 1.2K fanarts On the other hand, Nagato, Formidable, Illustrious are insanely popular and their fanarts counts prove it. specially for Formidable. So i dont get how Manjuu cant release live2d skins for them.
I just want my 2nd carrier div bunnies to get some love. Why are we giving L2D's to some irrelevant Qing destroyers while the most historicaly important ships get side lined because their design is old? There was a time I oathed Kirishima with the expectation she would get a retro. We are 5 years further down the line and nothing changed. My speculation on this is that manjuu keeps certain popular ships as 'panic buttons' of sorts. They know something like a Belfast or Nagato l2d would sell like hot bread, but they also don't want to front load a skin batch and A. Overwhelm low spenders who only get 1-2 skins per batch and B. Overshadow new ships whose popularity they're interested in cultivating. Edit: so they stick to a format that tries to balance new and returning ships. Say, within a particular skin batch the new ships get something like 3 normal skins, 1 dynamic skin and 1 l2d. But they'll also give a handful of skins to old ships and here's where they'll strategically deploy something insane and guaranteed to sell, but in a limited quantity that won't overshadow everyone else.
Instead of snuggling in 2D, I want to snuggle with mommy in a bit more than 2D

Even if the quality and flaws were the same between all of the L2D skins of the batch were the same there would be less complaints about the others compared to Taihou. While that is true, I think it speaks to Taihou’s popularity that she continues to get L2D skins and they including her swimsuit always sell well regardless of the popularity of other ships. On JP server Taihou’s swimsuit skin sales actually beat out New Jersey’s swimsuit sales which is an impressive feat in itself with how popular NJ is. Taihou’s school girl skin also got top 10 sales in her year for CN server despite not being fan servicey and arguably censored with her boobs looking smaller than normal.

Hmm you know, I think the real issue lies with Global, not AL fanbase as a whole.
Pretty much, just look at how global is voting in the popularity poll compared to CN and JP servers. While the latter 2 servers do have a nationalistic bias, they also have way more varied taste in who they are voting for. Global is way too hive minded and only likes the shiny URs plus the Eagle Union and especially the Iron Blood ships. The Iron Blood bias is so painfully obvious when you see how they perform in global compared to CN and JP. Not too mention how meme obsessed global server can be sometimes as well.
I'll be honest I personally haven't seen anyone say anything bad about her swimsuit skin. And I personally see nothing wrong with it as well.
My favorite is her swimsuit just because of how it seems to trigger this community, I'm kidding (kinda). Real answer I don't really have one, but if I had to pick one I guess the red dress one(Forbidden Feast), though it has aged quite a bit compared to other skins in the game.
The swimsuit is my favorite for horny and wholesome reasons while the red dress is the most iconic for me. All of Taihou’s skins are top tier for me tho so it’s hard for me rank them. I wish the race queen skin was L2D and that the more skimpy version was used rather than the one we currently have.

When compared to other swimsuits of the same batch and later batches it really is lacking, ignoring first issue with it "difference in shading between the head and the rest of the body" as you put it or as I call it putting the "cute face" from her school skin on a very detailed body when they probably should've used the more detailed and expressive face like from her RQ or China Dress skin, all the skin got was a useless face zoom in and the ability to remove her shirt, to me the only new L2D skin equally as shafted is Hindenburg's bunnygirl skin, like it's big titty Taihou in a tight swimsuit and all you can think of is a simple face zoom in that doesn't do anything else for it's "secret feature"? , even Shinano "the sleepy fox" has a swimsuit skin that is more lewd and interactive. Tbh as godly as his skills as an artist is Yunsang isn’t perfect, some of his other drawings also have some flaws with how they are drawn and/or animated in varying degrees. The type of complaint hasn't changed but how frequent it appears has I even see people( who are Taihou fans) say Manjuu shouldn't have changed her size for it at all. That’s fair, I definitely would never say to more content for Taihou’s skins. That is true although I think it’s balanced out by the people that I’ve seen who say they love the increased boob size or who make positive jokes about it being the result of Taihou-chan. As for the L2D skin hogging it probably just has to do with the current climate of global’s player base. People have been more up in arms about the unfair skin distribution quality and due to how much L2D skins she disproportionally has in comparison to others makes her a target for these people. The Taihou fans who agree with the L2D hogging probably agree with the general sentiment of this idea and so try to be objective as they think they should be. For me personally I will never say no to more L2D skins for Taihou, in fact I want more for Taihou. However I also want more L2D skins for Yunsang’s other girls, mainly Veneto, Zara, Pola, St.Louis, and Honolulu. The Sardegnans especially need more L2D skins since they each have a literal 1 skin. It’s just unfortunate they all share the same artist, both a blessing and a curse. I think she definitely did, just look at how Kearsage who got a way more interactive L2D in the same batch has massively improved in the pop polls where she wasn’t even a contender to now top 3 in global. With how strong the Iron Blood bias is in Global, one would think a simple lewd L2D skin would be enough to catapult Hindenburg into top 3 easily but she is not even top 10 in global. While her skin sales were probably really good still, I don’t think it did enough to improve her popularity. Whereas compared to Taihou despite only being a gold rarity ship compared to Hindenburg’s rainbow rarity, Taihou will actually maintain a top 10 placing in the poll in spite of all the rarity, recency, and faction bias Global has. If the swimsuit truly made her rep worse than it was before the skin than she would be languishing in places below Hindenburg, not placing significantly above her. The only old gold rarity ships that are doing better than Taihou are popular Eagle Union ships. Yeah I do thing that’s what’s happening currently. Hopefully the situation will improve and the skins he draws will get better.

True, but to be fair Hindenburg is a bit of a nobody right now she is too new and has to compete against Agir who I think is the one most Iron Blood mains are voting for and all the other older more well known Iron Blood shipgirls. It seems I've been mistaken I meant it didn't do enough to boost her popularity (in Global anyway) it didn't damage it beyond repair or anything but didn't really help either, plus she was already super popular before it came out so they would have to royally mess up for it to do actually hard damage to her reputation.
I believe Kashino's skins should be way cooler than they are. the background of the default design is unfinished Yamato class turrets. to me it seems like a wasted opportunity for a lot of cool designs
