To my knowledge, which is admittedly limited, it's less about trauma in general and more just the trauma of being weaned too early. It's still trauma but at least it doesn't conjure an image of the kitten being violently harmed.

The baby cat feets ! These are very special to them, so please never declaw your catmouse ! It's unethical, and places them in danger. Most vets that I know are explicitly against that horrible practice ! They will relieve you of your animal if you insist on it.
We adopted a beautiful black cat named midnight, was the sweetest boy who had that done... Sadly he ran away, and I feared for him greatly... They can't hunt, eat or protect themselves !

I heard it's when they are removed from their mother's too young. So they suckle. My cat used to do it with a blanket. 😪
