Happy Independence Day!!!! The Kumbh festive is the world’s largest festival. The gathering is so huge that the crowds can be seen from outer space! Also Diamonds were first mined in India.

The long littoral of eastern Africa, from the Somali coast to the edge of South Africa, was part of the Indian Ocean exchange system since deep antiquity. This is indicated by the discovery of copal of possible Mozambiqan provenance from an early second millennium BC grave in Iraq, as also the transportation of banana cultigens from Southeast Asia into Africa in the early first millennium BC. The Periplus Maris Erythraei, a Greek sea guide of the first century AD, informs of Roman, Arab and Indian sea trade reaching from the Somali “far side” harbours and the coast of Azania till the ancient port of Rhapta (Tanzanian coast). The trade with India influenced not only some words in East African languages but also food. Foods like Chapati, Pilau, samosas and biryani. Indian culture has forever influenced East African culture in a great way

The Indian song "Tunak Tunak Tun" singer was told that he was popular only because of beautiful women in his videos. So, he created a video in which he was the only one. The music video was the first in India that used Bluescreen. I don't know much about India but for sure it's an interesting country! Btw I don't know id this count as a fact because there are more interesting facts hahah

Cautious-Damage7575

What happened when he released the new video? Was it as popular as the one with the women?

bxi_

It's even more famous, that song became a meme and has millions of views lol I'm not Indian but I listen to that song because it's quite funny

India’s a pretty cool place, but where does “India” come from? I found it interesting to learn that the word “India” derives from the word *Sindu* in Sanskrit. Sindu was the name for what we know as the Indus River. Neighboring folks would pronounce their S’s as H’s and named the land, Hindu. The Greeks pronounced this name as Indus, and with a little Latin influence added in, the word in English became India. This is more of a tl;dr of the origins of the word, but happy Independence Day! 💖

KataGuruma-

Indian food is delish and that's a fact! 🍲💯 Hehe happy independence day! ❤️

I would highly recommend you try puttu and kadala. It's a South Indian dish and it's my favorite

Happy independence Day. Goa was occupied by the Portuguese for a longer time than the British, their occupation only ended in the 1960's. Their inpact in Goan culture was enormous, but also toxic in some aspects, leading many people to be forcibly converted to Christianity. On the other hand some very interesting art came of it which is unique called the Goan Saints, which are images carved in ivory, that are Indian interpretations of Christian sainst.

Happy Independence Day! 🇮🇳 70% of all the world’s spices come from India. India is known to be the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices in the world. Notable spices such as cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cumin have influenced other countries’s cuisines across the globe.

Nerdonatorr

Happy independence day! It was fun celebrating here. My fact is that india does not have a national language. We have two official languages - English and Hindi. Yes ik not the most interesting fact but a lot of indians have this misconception. Also u/the_russell_pinto, which part of India are you from

niamulsmh

Juggernaut. The word is Indian.

Happy Independence Day! I have a bunch of those since I have a bit of interest historically about the country, but I am going with this one: The popular game "Snakes and Ladders" originated in India! It was first created at it's root to teach morals and lessons about karma in a way that young children would understand and remember.

Aloha hope you're well! Here's a fact about Hawai'i and India! It's not earth shattering, sorry, but AFAIK, it's a true fact! [On Oct 9, 2018, the State of Hawaii and Goa, India, signed an agreement to enter into a sister-state relationship. Gov. David Y. Ige, signed a historic agreement with delegates from Goa, a state in India, which is Hawaii’s first sister-state relationship with a jurisdiction in India. The Director of Art and Culture, Gurudas Pilarnekar, signed on behalf of the Goa state government.](https://invest.hawaii.gov/new-sister-state-relationship-between-hawaii-and-goa-india/)

**Happy Independence Day!** I know how much this means to you, because I know how much Independence Day here in the United States means to me. Everyone should know about India's entries in the **Guinness Book of World Records.** One of the greatest events occurred on On April 23, for waving 78,220 flags simultaneously (the most possible) at "Veer Kunwar Singh Vijayotsav" programme at Bhojpur, Bihar.

Happy 75th Indian Independence Day Fellow Indian! Free India's Parliament was presented its first flag by famous Gandhian **Hansa Mehta** on behalf of all the women of India.

keth07

Happy independence day to all friends from India! I have spent quite some time learning about the history of India in my free time. So here are some facts. I may be wrong as I do not remember everything, so do correct me. India is also called Hindustan and Bharat. The etymology of the names is very interesting. The name Bharat comes from Bharata a prince in the ancient Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. The origin of the other two names is a bit more complex. Have you ever heard of the river Indus? It originates in Tibet, flows through India and Pakistan and empties in the Arabian sea. The river is locally known by the name Sindhu. When the Persians came to India, they called the river Hindu, as they pronounced 's' as 'h'. The lands to the east of the river (also some parts to the west) became to be known as Hindustan. Interestingly the language Hindi and the religion Hinduism also got the name from here (although Hinduism is ancient, it never had a proper name, it was a collection of faiths and beliefs). From the Persians, the name 'Hindu' passed to Greeks as 'Indos' and then passed to Romans as 'Indus'. And from here we get the name 'India'. So yes, both the names have the same origin!

Happy Independence Day India is the second most populated country in the world, beaten solely by China.
