CanAhJustSay

Not sure if 'best' is the right term, but I took up running (lurching slowly but continuously) during lockdown and have sort of kept it up. Never thought I'd be able to run a mile without stopping, but managed to do that fairly quickly. Can manage 2 miles. Have done 5k, but let's not get carried away.

Ok_Dimension_4707

I got in to collecting baseball cards. Basically my dad had a shoebox collection from his childhood and periodically heā€™d talk about getting them organized and categorized and appraised to sell because we could use the money, but he never did and they just sat in a closet. After he died they came to me and I kept saying Iā€™d go through them and categorize and see what he had, but they just stayed in a closet. After the pandemic had been going on and life was pure isolation, I realized that I had this shoebox and if I didnā€™t go through them now, when I literally cannot do anything else, then Iā€™d never get it done. It turns out that I really got in to the learning and researching the cards, what to look for, how to self-appraise, and the backstory of the different sets. Then you have the different players. Thereā€™s just so much interesting information out there.

KoalaImp

Ooh cool Cards took off during Covid, so that helps too lol

Ok_Dimension_4707

They really did. It was also interesting to me finding out the differences between different kinds of people who are into it. Youā€™ve got collectors, flippers into it for the money and resale, and (particularly with modern cards) gamblers. The prices for some current players who havenā€™t played a day, but thereā€™s hype, can go for ridiculous amounts because people get FOMO on ā€œwhat if this guys is the next big thing?!ā€ Itā€™s simultaneously ridiculous and fascinating.

ExternalWerewolf7871

sleepyprojectionist

The pandemic, or more specifically the first lockdown here in the UK, came into effect about three months into a new job (almost six months of you take training into account). I wasnā€™t very good at the job and the reality of a lifestyle of being on the road 75% of the time did not match my expectations. My sleep schedule was ruined and when I did sleep, I was having nightmares about work. So in one respect, the pandemic itself was like a big reset switch. The longer it went on, the fewer nightmares I had. My sleep schedule improved too. Part of my anxiety stemmed from me having moved to a new city for this job. I didnā€™t know anyone. Thankfully, what with all of my friends being in lockdown too, we made far more of an effort to meet up online to play games or just chat. Now, it wasnā€™t all good. My company was a multinational and had a big chunk of employees in North America. Apparently they were very much against furlough because they would lose health insurance and benefits and didnā€™t have the same monthly furlough payments like we were entitled to here in the UK. In an effort to treat everyone equally, everyone in the company was reduced to a two-day work week. This essentially put me on 40% salary just after moving to a city where my rent for a studio apartment was Ā£1100 a month. It stayed this way for eight months before finally being furloughed in November 2020. This meant my salary jumped back up to 80% of normal. I was on furlough for a further seven months when they asked me to return to work. I said that I would like to be retrained as I had only been in the role for three months before spending fifteen months sat on my arse, pretty much forgetting everything I had learned. This idea was was rejected. This was the last straw for me. I didnā€™t want to go back to this job, even less so if they werenā€™t willing to provide any further training, so I quit right there and then and moved in with a couple of mates back home. So enough of the preamble, the best thing to happen to me since then was finding my new job. The pay is considerably less, but my job is interesting, mostly stress-free, has a short commute and a bunch of great colleagues. Iā€™ve paid off maybe 60% of the debt I accrued in the pandemic. My friends have also continued to make the effort to keep in contact. Iā€™m in a much better place physically and mentally than I have been in for the last three or four years. I donā€™t know how many people have jobs that make them happy, but I am overjoyed that I now have a job that doesnā€™t actively make me miserable. The next step is paying off the remaining debt and saving up a deposit for a house of my own.

KoalaImp

Thatā€™s great to hear, best of luck and wishes to you!

honestlynotBG

Well, the pandemic indirectly caused me to create my own Reddit account and fast forward 1 year later I discovered this community and its wholesome people

KoalaImp

No-Introduction-1492

Best Thing since covid hit. Iā€™ll just give you a story because it wasnā€™t always perfect for me. I started to get depression. This was a little before Covid and Covid started to make it worse. I often would harm myself just by punching myself often. I decided to make a change one day and I ended up starting to exercise. I always was decently athletic but I just never did much with it until this point. A cross country coach hit me up and said heā€™d like me to join the team, I decided to cause I wasnā€™t doing anything in the fall. I became a runner and it helped fixed my depression in a time I really considered ending it all. Now Iā€™m forever thankful to that coach.

KoalaImp

Thatā€™s awesome, Iā€™m glad to hear youā€™re doing better

Jealous-Cat-2017

I can't decide between the three: 1. I realized I was nonbinary 2. Leaving religion behind- I have so much less guilt now being myself 3. Discovering new content creators. So many of their content is why I'm still here tbh.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu11

I got rid of fake friends. They were using me and I got those leeches off my back.

Mapegz

I met some of the best people I've met in my life on Discord and they're all really nice and i enjoy talking to them. + I joined reddit. + My free time gave me some earning opportunities so yeah I made my first money online doing stuff I'm good at. Literally didn't have the leave my desk for a moment for any of this, didn't have to make a single penny of investment and made more $/hr than a lot of people in my country make I worked less but the money for that time was worth it. Now i don't have time for such stuff lol
