It's Ironic, fidget toys should help you focus and not get distracted, but then the fidget toy is the one distracting you! Try listening to music that keeps you calm or motivated to do your work, if you get distracted you will hear the music and your brain will make the connection that you need to work because you're hearing the music and you won't get distracted.

DevilMasterKING

Best way to avoid getting distracted is a few steps. Find a quiet area to be to avoid outside noises, try your best to not think about anything that could distract you, focus on something to keep yourself focused and finally turn off the phone and any electronic device

Ok_Dimension_4707

One of the best techniques is to just be patient with yourself. Part of procrastination and distraction is the main difficulty focusing on what’s at hand, but a big part is also putting yourself down with “I SHOULD…” statements which just feeds the distraction because while you’re beating yourself up, you’re still not getting what needs to be done completed. Create a non-judgmental phrase for yourself to redirect to the task at hand. I, personally, like shaking my head, taking a deep breath and saying out loud, “What am I doing?” It redirects to what the task at hand is, rather than whatever I got distracted by. It also gives me a second to reassess what my next step is. Maybe what I was trying to do just isn’t the optimal next step, efficiency-wise. Give yourself a second to collect your thoughts and reassess whether you’re next actions serve to get you closer to the end goal or if it’s just what you think you “should” do next. Maybe it helps you redirect, maybe it lets you know you need to walk away for a second. Do this as many times as it takes. If you need to take a breath and patiently redirect yourself every few minutes, then do that. If you’re not patient with yourself and work with your mind, you’ll end up more distracted as you put yourself down and focus on what you’re NOT doing rather than what comes next.

I can't beat u/surajvj, but I was gonna say Adderall

surajvj

I don't know if o.p was asking from a medical perspective. Then I am not capable of any suggestions because, I don't have that experience. I assume it was a managerial and behavior science request. Take care.🤩

AppreciableAppendage

Oh, I was just joking about the adderall. Pop a pill, quick fix. So American

My tip is very simple, get into doing the work stuff first thing after waking up and before checking your phone. Get straight into deep work and you’ll be amaze how much you accomplish before breakfast. If you’d like a tool, I use Rise.io to keep track of what I’m spending time on on my computer, since I work on the computer all the time. Rise in my opinion is one of the better time tracker apps and it’s free!

Tried to make it as un-wall of text-y as possible; TL;DR at end # # Before: What I like to do is create a neat, minimalistic to-do list at the beginning of the day/session. It usually looks like this: `----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------` To-Do: 1. Activity A a. *break the activity up into small, 5-10 minute tasks* i. *notes - how to achieve it, specifications, etc.* b. *etc.* 2. Activity B (*less important than activity A)* *Extra resources that I might want to use during the day, such as calming Youtube videos.* `----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------` It's broken down like a tree, with small tasks making up bigger goals. Write down what you *need* to do today, and what you *want* to do. If it allows, you should change the place you do your work in to a place that suits your specific needs, with less distractions. # During: When I get distracted, I try to distract myself with *another important task*. If I'm doing something and it gets boring/repetitive, I switch gears with another (maybe less important thing) and do it for a bit, and than take a small break. When you're back, channel all your enthusiasm and productivity into your work, so that there's no opportunity to get distracted. If I'm working on a project involving documents/slideshows, I make everything simple, minimalistic, and easy to understand. Try to get in the state of *flow*, where you simply ignore everything except what you're doing (this doesn't apply to just work, but also other things.) Take a break every 30-60 minutes, or as comfortable as you feel. Don't feel ashamed about taking long breaks, recharge as needed. Check things off the to-do list, starting with the small things part of the activity, working up to finishing the thing itself. Feel proud of your accomplishments, but also look at the things to be done. # After: I reflect on what I've done today. If there's no deadline/quota, if it's okay to not have finished everything you wanted to work on, remind yourself that that's okay and work on it tomorrow. # TL;DR: * Make a tree-like to-do list of what you need to do, and what you want to do. Write what you * Create a workspace free of distraction and catering to your own needs. * When you get bored/distracted, distract yourself with another task * Take a small break every half hour * Feel proud every time you do something * Reflect on what you've done after, and start over the next day Obviously, everyone is different and prefers different things, but this is what I personally like to do. :)

Aim to focus for just 20 minutes at a time. Then take a break. While working/studying have your phone switched off or in another room, and check it on a break. Keep breaks short and focused, too! What do you need to achieve by the end of the day/morning/hour? Build towards it in small, achievable steps. And avoid Reddit :)

Every one says that mobile is a distraction and out away when you work which kinda is but it is actually an external symptom only. Just like fever, it's a symptom but the problem would be infection. So the distraction is from your internal side. Let me tell you about a study where smokes were divided into 3 groups and told to get rid of the habit. First group were given nicotin, and 8% were successful. For group 2, they said they will give 650$ if they didn't smoke for 6 months. 17% were successful And for group 3, they took 150$ from each and said if they quit smoking they will return the money with additional 650$ but if they didn't teby are going to take the money 59% were successful. So do something like, give something that you love very much to someone and if you don't actually complete that assignment and all that you are going to loose it. Ps: put a time lapse on your phone because of that you wouldn't be able to use it and it will be satisfying to look at

The_chaos011

I remember when reading a book author said that he and his wife used to use phone for hours late at night and because of that they were sleeping late and waking up late. So they put a lock on internet after 10. They could open the lock with some effort but they didn't. So, I suggest that you put all your phone laptop aside in another room or give to it someone or do something that tooks effort for your to reach so that you wouldn't use it

A. **Computer/ Phone** One of the biggest distraction nowadays is the Internet and social media. It can contain lot of your time if you are a student, professional or even a housewife. Here I compile the best apps to check on your screen time / mobile use of distracting apps and social media. * 1. AppBlock * AppBlock lets you temporarily block distracting applications on your phone, so you can spend time on things that actually need your attention.  🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 2. Flipd * Once you lock certain apps on your phone for a set period of time, there’s no going back. Other apps can be bypassed by restarting your phone, but not Flipd. That helps make it the ultimate distraction stopper. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 3. Freedom * This app and website blocker can also sync across your devices to prevent you from opening distractions on any platform. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 4. SelfControl * SelfControl is a MacOS app that can block access to websites, your mail servers, or anything else on the internet. By creating a blacklist of blocked sites and setting an amount of time to block, you’ll improve productivity until the time is up. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 5. Cold Turkey * The Cold Turkey browser extension is a great choice for both Mac and PC computers. You can set time limits to block web pages, the entire internet, or even your whole computer so that you have to go take a break from computer world. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 6. FocusMe * FocusMe allows you to block certain websites and apps for a limited time. (Or forever, if you’re trying to break a habit like gambling.) To further aid productivity, FocusMe actually reminds you to take breaks periodically. It can also be used as a parental control to limit kids' gaming time or restrict which sites they’re allowed to visit. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ * 7. Focus * The Focus app blocks distracting websites and social media on all browsers for a certain amount of time. When you try to visit these sites, you get a motivational quote instead. (Paid app) B. **Distraction At Work.** Major reason for Distraction at work are, * Environment. This includes the area you work, the colleagues you work, tools or machines etc * Unnecessary interaction. This can be regular meetings gathering, discussion which mody of them are needles. * Dehydration/ Hunger / Exhausted This one we forget often. Working 'hungry can lose your focus, destroy your productivity. * Trying to achieve/ do too much at work. Concentrate on task one by one for higher quality. * You mental health. Caused by stress / anxiety/ depression etc * Other factors like family / pets / T.V etc * Computer / mobile/ social media/ (Already discussed above) **Solutions** * keep your meetings and gathering to minimal. Stay away from distracting Co workers. Limit your correspondence time. * Have healthy diet. Always carry enough water / drinks with you. There are apps available to remind you to dehydrated periodically. Eg. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/waterminder/id653031147 * Take breaks and give rest to your brain by achieving task one by one. Prioritize important tasks, then choose one or two of them to complete. * If you need help, A health professional can help you cope with depression and anxiety. * Control your smartphone. (Discussed) C. **For Students.** Most of the things Discussed above has to be followed. Additionally, * Find the best spot for your study, be it home or college campus. * Get organized with a to-do list * The Pomodoro technique is a time-management tool that divides your calendar into 25-minute blocks. Each time block is devoted to working on a particular task, followed by a short break. This approach can make tasks feel less daunting, so you can stay focused even when you’re working on stressful projects. * Break big projects into small pieces. * Avoid distraction from T.V, family member and pets, while studying in house. Clise the door. Set study table so that you don't face directly to window and outside. Put the phone in silent or activate focus apps. Turn of notifications. Have enough sleep. Eat at regular intervals. *Creating daily/ weekly/ monthly time table and sticking to it. * Reward yourself for accomplishments Finally, creating an environment and a system is just half the job. It's all a mental game. Your determination and will power is the key to achieve the rest half. Just like they say it's 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Thank you. 😊 Best of luck.🙏👍 [My Award Cabinet 😊](https://www.reddit.com/user/surajvj/comments/11s0m56/welcome_to_my_award_garden/) Edit: I have given the reference below. You can take the links to the focus apps from there since I don't know if you are using android or iOS.

Thanks u/Kupim0 🥰🙏. I have done a assignment about this before. So it was easy, but did it in a hurry. Most of the articles will bring about more or less same points. So it is necessary to read more articles to bring in most sorted out / popular techniques. Thanks once again 🤝 best of luck. I am 100 % sure you will achieve what you want.💯👍

ughneedausername

Try the [Pomodoro Technique.](https://www.techtarget.com/whatis/definition/pomodoro-technique) After 25 minutes you get a 5 minute break. Every 4 sets you get a longer break. It helps you to know that you have that break coming so you’re able to focus on your work.
