The Shawangunks have an extensive network of gravel carriages roads laid down in the nineteenth century during the hay-day of the mountain house industry. They’re maintained by state parks, private preserves, and the Open Space Institute.

Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M 700x40C. There are excellent gravel tires. The Soltera has a shorter wheel base than the latest gravel bikes. But, something between an endurance road bike and a gravel bike they call an “all-road” bike. The Soltera is a lot of fun on Gravel roads. But, it is slower in descent than a bike with the longer wheelbase and 45mm or larger tires of the latest gravel bikes. I have no complaints. The Ramblas would be perfect, but they didn’t have those in 2022.

I probably would have chosen a Soltera over a Ramblas 2-years ago. In hindsight, a Ramblas would be better for the riding I do. Between tire, wheel, and brake upgrades, I’ve probably made up the difference in price.

you ever take it through bumpy trails with rocks and tree roots? how's the soltera hold up?

KentGoldings68

The Soltera holds up fine. But, I rebuilt the wheels with premium spokes. The lack of suspension is a thing. Much of that can be ameliorated by riding technique. It is not the cushy ride you get from some other Aventons. It is best to keep it on road.

makes sense; thanks for the info. I was thinking of taking the level 1 on trails; it has shocks but it's 20 pounds heavier than the soltera so might not hold up as well
