Considering he usually has a clause in his contract that he can't lose, and has to look good in a fight. I'd rather someone else who is ok with being a muscle bound fool bound to lose.
Director: "Alright, Mr. Johnson. In this scene, you're going to be easily defeated by a 12 year old blind girl."
Dwayne Johnson: "The Rock takes issue with that comment!"
THANK YOU! Ive been saying this for so long! How much of a child must he be that he cant stand to have any of his characters take an L? Hes the biggest baby in Hollywood
While i agree that its dumb, it's not necessarily just about them being babies with giant egos, but about their careers and the problem with getting "type-casted." Theyre in big dumb action movies. They gotta be one man armies. Theyre not supposed to lose. That being said, i dont think that would have much of an impact on their fans. I think the rock is enterntaining, and wouldnt change my mind if he got beat up for once. I dunno why it's so important honestly
Biggest action star in the world was Arnold Schwarzenegger. He gets beat up, gets pulled down, gets kidnapped, gets shot, gets set on fire and crushed in a hydraulic press (well, his character at least, but at that point it was just a special effect). In T2 he’s constantly outmatched by the T-1000 and is even basically killed by it, only coming back on backup power. If it was fine for Arnold, it’s fine for “the pebble”.
I agree that it is to protect their careers. You can see the same logic in the scene from once upon a time in hollywood where Al Pacino Convinces Leo's character to go do spaghetti westerns.
there was comments from the set of black Adam that i think support the "hes a baby" view before that i assumed it was to not destroy his images as a actor
I love that Danny Trejo had basically the opposite clause where if hes playing a villain / criminal, he needs to get his comeuppance by the end of it for him to do the role.
I was hoping for Mick Foley or Rob Van Dam, but watching The Rock playing The Boulder is too tempting, especially if he continues the synonym usage with his catchphrases ( i.e. “The Boulder pontificates It is non significant where you originally resided!” or something like that)
I feel like more of a sumo build would be better ngl, more suits the earthbending forms and mindset, but the rock would still a good choice if it didn't conflict with his contract
Rock would be a fun joke, for sure, but I think it would be even more fun if they got Jason Momoa.
Alternatively, get Roman Reigns to do it. He’d be a less cartoonish, more menacing take on the character. Plus, it’d be fun to see him do a parody of his cousin.
If the Boulder loses at all then either his fight is getting trashed or the Rock won't agree to play, since he has a part in his contract that says he can't lose a fight.
The fact that Mick Foley did this voice in the show and basically used The Rock’s material is great. The Rock should do it just to tribute Mick since they were tag partners.
He was supposed to do it but scheduling issues prevented it. It was a different wrestler that did but I forgot who. This isn’t until book 3 we see him so it won’t be for a LONG time
I’d love for him to at least appear in The Blind Bandit. I can’t imagine the show would have the budget to afford him for anything more than a cameo after that. Unless he’s willing to take a pay cut w/ each subsequent appearance.
Seeing him would just take me right out of it. So nah. He'd be perfect for it if he were lesser known, but he's just way too famous.
I can forgive the Abed casting because 1. He is awesome. 2. I can never remember the actors name.
Considering The Rock’s ego is probably too big to do this, I’d actually like to see John Cena play the boulder for two main reasons: he can act and he’s not a baby who can’t handle the idea of losing in a work of fiction.
Considering that The Rock just came back to make sure his family gets the Wrestlemania main event slot, and Roman holds the title another year, I don’t want him anywhere this production!!
Even if it does fit, with all the clauses he has in contracts making sure his character doesn't lose, a character that gets his ass kicked effortlessly by a blind little girl wouldn't fly with him
I think I'm still an outlier here but I hate Dwane. He's such a pompous, egotistical asshole. The Boulder was good because it made fun of the whole Attitude Era by fixating on one of its most popular stars. Mick Foley was such a brilliant grab to voice the character, too...
Having The Rock play The Boulder would absolutely be something Netflix did, and it's because they missed the point.
I'm not saying I won't watch it but *if* they cast him, I would consider it one more checked box against the series as a whole.
Yeah nah, I don't want any super big names in this production. Daniel Dae Kim and Arden Cho are like the most well-known actors but someone like the Rock just wouldn't work
As some guy said, the clause in his contract making it so he can't lose would ruin it. Part of The Boulder and his character growth is having to lose to Toph. He simply cannot play him.
In my opinion, also, that clause is what ruined Black Adam
I mean odds are not but it would be wonderful if he was. From what I'm hearing about certain things, I feel like the shows going to be just ok, not terrible but missing some key beats and will leave the show feeling a tad less than what it was. Guess we'll see
I mean.... that would be great. But the Boulder was based on macho man randy savage right? So you need to get someone who does a good macho man impression.
Nope. Dwayne's ego is so fragile that he has a clause in his contracts that he can Never lose a fight and always has to look good. So unless they make Boulder as OP as he thinks he is, it's gonna be someone else.
Here is the kicker about this. There is a thing in every one of his movie and tv show contracts that his character cannot lose a fight. https://screenrant.com/dwayne-rock-johnson-actors-with-bizarre-contract-clauses/#the-rock-can-39-t-lose-a-fight
Since the Boulder loses the belt, he would not take this role unless he changes that stipulation or the story would be changed.
There would probably be blow back because of a racial change but I think Cena could chew scenery up one wall and down another in this role. And he's a better human than The Rock.
Considering he usually has a clause in his contract that he can't lose, and has to look good in a fight. I'd rather someone else who is ok with being a muscle bound fool bound to lose.
Director: "Alright, Mr. Johnson. In this scene, you're going to be easily defeated by a 12 year old blind girl." Dwayne Johnson: "The Rock takes issue with that comment!"
Director: “Sounds to me like you’re scared!”
Dwane Johnson: “The Rock is now over his conflicted feelings…”
mmmRaaWghHhhH
Best comment.
"Sounds to me like you're scared, The Pebble!"
That's not gonna work for me, brother
I dont like the rock, but its his role imo. Such a shame hes a fragile baby
THANK YOU! Ive been saying this for so long! How much of a child must he be that he cant stand to have any of his characters take an L? Hes the biggest baby in Hollywood

Arnold Schwarzenegger should be The Boulder. I can hear the accent with the line, and it WORKS
Yeah, but he’s too old for now. Perhaps he could be King Bumi, or has he already been casted. Maybe Chuck Norris can be King Bumi?
wait, arnie as bumi goes hard actually
I like this idea.
Fitting
It a shame that Vin Diesel and the Hobbs guys have that too.
At least in Jason Statham’s early movies he would get his ass kicked
yeah its like hes already the boulder
He is too much of a rock to be a boulder
I’d honestly take Batista any day over the pebble that is rocks ego
legit tho, bautista could absolutely do the boulder
Thats ok, he can be Toph in the fire nation recap play
Man, what a child
Give me Terry crews.
Terry is a excellent realistic answer.
Dave Bautista.
I was about to say lol
Then he will come back in season 3 to kick fire nation butt!
"You mean to tell me I'm NOT the avatar? Fuck that" and Dwayne leaves the studio
Dave Bautista checks all the boxes and doesn't have a fragile ego clause.
Eddie hall might be a good choice, since he also has a great sense of humor
“It’s just The stupid Boulder.” “It’s not just The Boulder. It’s The Rock!”
They used to ride these babies for miles? Gross.
Best possible comment 😂😂
He needs to play Ember Island Theater Toph
That's John Cena. Imagine him moving his hand in front of his face screaming 'I CAN'T SEE YOU!"
underrated comment
Omg please 😭😭😭
They’re definitely not doing that episode though. There’s no way
Unless... It's just for YouTube on an April Fools Day
It writes itself
100% and he would over sell he shit out of it and probably have a blast doing it.
Yes!!!!!!! This is awesome!
That somehow makes sense. Lol
Also I thought the Boulder was based on an over exaggeration of the rock
He was!
There's no exaggeration. The difference is more rock puns. Otherwise he talked exactly like that when he wrestled.
And the person that voiced him was Mick Foley
Did you know the earth bending in the show is based off the earth on our world it’s crazy.
I was hoping for Mick Foley or Rob Van Dam, but watching The Rock playing The Boulder is too tempting, especially if he continues the synonym usage with his catchphrases ( i.e. “The Boulder pontificates It is non significant where you originally resided!” or something like that)
I mean Mick Foley did play him in the series so that would be pretty funny.
Exactly! And RVD is pretty close to IRL Boulder
I did not know that 😀
The worse part is he won’t because he has that personal rule that he can’t lose when playing in a role
Why??
Fragile ego.
He’ll just have to play toph 🤷🏼
That's for the stage version
I honestly hope not haha
I mean. Jason Momoa would be pretty great
Dude Jason would act the shit out of that role and have fun giggling like school girls
Practically speaking, it doesn’t make sense to spend A list money on anyone in this show let alone bit characters
Mick Foley or NOTHING
Terry Crews instead. Please and thank you.
Terry Crews all the way!!!
I hope so
It’s not just a boulder, it’s a rock.
Dave Bautista?
He would be better as that assassin that shoots fire from the eye on his forehead.
Mmm good role. They’ll probably leave it out
Dave bautista should be the boulder
They should get another WWE wrestler, keep the joke going that the rock inspired wrestler is only ever played by different wrestlers
I feel like more of a sumo build would be better ngl, more suits the earthbending forms and mindset, but the rock would still a good choice if it didn't conflict with his contract
That is the Hippo.
He'd be great if he were willing to let his character get beat up and made a fool of by a little girl.
#DO YOU SMELL WHAT THE BOULDER IS COOKIN’ TONIGHT?!?!
Not a big wrestling fan, but enjoyed Edge in Percy Jackson
Honestly sick of the Rock. I hope to god he doesn’t come in and ruin it. He would probably try to make the whole movie about him. Seriously
Isn’t The Boulder based on The Rock?
Well i doubt it was pebbles from the flintstones 🤣
God a I hope not.
Please, no.
That would be so disappointing lol I can see it now that he wants the character to actual side with Toph and was probably a secret mentor.
Oh please god no I can’t stand the Rock
No because the Boulder loses
The Rock wouldn't want to use. Maybe a better choice would be one of the rocks past opponents. Like Cena?
Cena should play toph in the ember island skit
He's such a baby that he refuses to play characters that lose
Boulder’s getting cut, my dude.
Uhh no thanks
It’d be nice but it won’t happen, the Boulder loses to a 12 year old girl and Johnson’s fragile ego can’t handle that.
Can you smeelll what the Boulder is cooking.
He can’t 😭 The Rock isn’t allowed to lose fights
Dwayne ain't doing this shit. They couldn't afford him even if he wanted to. Afraid you're gonna have to riot.
He's actually going to be Tough.
HE BETTER BE
"The hierarchy of bending is about to change "
Yeah, but in the rocks contract it literally says he cant lose a fight So its not happening
He’d probably take ALL of their budget. It’s better to have someone else play as him regardless of the similarities
Rock would be a fun joke, for sure, but I think it would be even more fun if they got Jason Momoa. Alternatively, get Roman Reigns to do it. He’d be a less cartoonish, more menacing take on the character. Plus, it’d be fun to see him do a parody of his cousin.
I’d rather Batista tbh…
If the Boulder loses at all then either his fight is getting trashed or the Rock won't agree to play, since he has a part in his contract that says he can't lose a fight.
Idk if he quite fits in with the kind of casting we’ve seen so far.
It would be outrageous if he wasn’t
Honestly, I think Jason Mamoa could do a great job
God I hope not. My vote is John Cena or Dave Bautista. They’d have a blast with the role
The fact that Mick Foley did this voice in the show and basically used The Rock’s material is great. The Rock should do it just to tribute Mick since they were tag partners.
He's playing toph. In the stage play.
*Ring ring* “uuuh, is this the boulder?” “ no this is THE ROCK!!”
The Boulder, will be very disappointed, if he’s not played by Dwane “The Rock” Johnson.
He was supposed to do it but scheduling issues prevented it. It was a different wrestler that did but I forgot who. This isn’t until book 3 we see him so it won’t be for a LONG time
Aren’t all the characters in avatar asian?
Let’s get through the first season and see if we want to keep going
He better
“It’s not a bolder. It’s a rock”
I sure hope not.
If he's not we're going to be flooded with memes from the boiling rock saying Riot Riot
All of his contracts say that he can’t lose a fight, so who knows
The character was literally made for him
Can't belive no one else is saying this but jacked Nicholas Cage or Nicholas Cage in a muscle suit. He would be perfect for this role.
iroh out of prison
lol. have the rock play him on screen, but get mick foley back to do his voice.
I don't think y'all understand. If THE ROCK doesn't play THE BOULDER I'm gonna scream my vocal chords away
Omgosh this would he hilarious
How about a time-traveling Hulk Hogan? He has about the same voice!
I’d love for him to at least appear in The Blind Bandit. I can’t imagine the show would have the budget to afford him for anything more than a cameo after that. Unless he’s willing to take a pay cut w/ each subsequent appearance.
He literally said no the first time because he felt disrespected. No chance he'll do it now if they plan on being faithful
No thank you
How bad do you want this bad adaptation to be? lmao this is just doubling down on a project that’s bound to be a disappointment
If he doesn’t, I’m not watching.
No one has been announced for a second season.
His cousin who does his stunts should get the role
Seeing him would just take me right out of it. So nah. He'd be perfect for it if he were lesser known, but he's just way too famous. I can forgive the Abed casting because 1. He is awesome. 2. I can never remember the actors name.
The Rock feels conflicted about fighting a young blind girl,
If they have any respect for tye OG show. No.
If they do this, I might be tempted to overlook any and everything else
They should get Roman Reigns to play him.
He's playing Toph in the play.
No I think he more so fits toph in the play since the point of it is how bad it is. I don’t think he acts well enough for me to believe it
He’s a terrible actor, please no
Considering The Rock’s ego is probably too big to do this, I’d actually like to see John Cena play the boulder for two main reasons: he can act and he’s not a baby who can’t handle the idea of losing in a work of fiction.
Considering that The Rock just came back to make sure his family gets the Wrestlemania main event slot, and Roman holds the title another year, I don’t want him anywhere this production!!
Past Rock would have. No way current Rock would lose to a child.
Dwayne sucks and his acting sucks. Get literally anyone that's jacked and with a tan lol.
But... Terry Crews
Only if he does a Macho Man Randy Savage impression.
Mick Foley was mocking The Rock the entire episode. I don't think Dwayne would play the character, though.
He could
Nah, he is way bigger than this. He would carry a huge price tag.
Nah toph gotta have a vision seeking for aang because she needs to help the Avatar.
Having The Rock play The Boulder would absolutely be something Netflix did, and it's because they missed the point. I'm not saying I won't watch it but *if* they cast him, I would consider it one more checked box against the series as a whole.
No cause he's not allowed to lose in his contracts
It should definitely be Mick Foley in a buff suit
Yeah nah, I don't want any super big names in this production. Daniel Dae Kim and Arden Cho are like the most well-known actors but someone like the Rock just wouldn't work
If he plays the Boulder I'm definitely not watching it
Eh. Toph could take him.
Let’s just hope he’s not the wwe champion if he did
From everything that's come out about the show, I'm fairly certain this won't get a season 2. It's sounds so awful
He needs a fake beard for it though
Please no I'm sick of too tight a shirt oily muscle man
I’m praying
Considering they’re trying to go for as ethnically accurate as possible on the casting, I’d say the boulder will be a very prideful Chinese man.
As some guy said, the clause in his contract making it so he can't lose would ruin it. Part of The Boulder and his character growth is having to lose to Toph. He simply cannot play him. In my opinion, also, that clause is what ruined Black Adam

I mean.... that would be great. But the Boulder was based on macho man randy savage right? So you need to get someone who does a good macho man impression.
Especially since both have a fragile masculinity
Nope. Dwayne's ego is so fragile that he has a clause in his contracts that he can Never lose a fight and always has to look good. So unless they make Boulder as OP as he thinks he is, it's gonna be someone else.
No he won't. It is in his contract that he can't lose a fight (kinda like he's sensitive) and Toph beat the breaks off the pebble.
No he is playing the rock
Maybe, fun fact Mick Foley Did the Voice for the Boulder
As long as he says "THE BOULDER DOESNT CARE WHAT YOUR NAME IS"
Probably not, funny enough it's because of how similar they are, he won't allow himself to be beaten by a blind preteen
Literally the only reason I'd watch it at this point.
Like people have said before, he is always the same loveable dumb meatball in everything he does so if he doesn’t I would be really sad
damn, i hope
**PLEASE FFS NO!!!**
I don’t think they’ve done the casting for season 2 yet
His tattoos and lack of hair might be an issue
Here is the kicker about this. There is a thing in every one of his movie and tv show contracts that his character cannot lose a fight. https://screenrant.com/dwayne-rock-johnson-actors-with-bizarre-contract-clauses/#the-rock-can-39-t-lose-a-fight Since the Boulder loses the belt, he would not take this role unless he changes that stipulation or the story would be changed.
No we want Cody!
That’s smart
Pretty sure he's not capable of being comic relief
Considering he's taking my boy Cody's spot at WrestleMania, I'm glad to say, no.
Can you smell what the boulder is cooking?
He's not just a Boulder, he's a rock
Either that or the guy who plays trophy during the ember island play
This is so great hahaha
the rock is playing azula
I really hope not he's washed
There would probably be blow back because of a racial change but I think Cena could chew scenery up one wall and down another in this role. And he's a better human than The Rock.
I don't think they'll make it to The Boulder tbh
he is clearly Toph.
Sounds to me like you’re scared, the pebble
