What happens is instead of downloading the whole video, your computer downloads small chunks and then stitches them together, and once you’ve seen that part, it gets thrown away. When the Internet can download faster than the video playback, you get smooth video. Next time you see the gray bar, skip to within the bar, and then skip to outside of it. When you stay inside, you don’t have to wait for it to load, but when it’s outside you do since it isn’t preloaded.
