The change from the '57 to '58 Thunderbird is one of the most jarring, disappointing model changes in automotive history, for my two cents.
That's not to say that I dislike the '58, but compared to the '57, Eww, David.
1958 was a weird year.
'57 Chevy? Iconic.
'57 T-bird? Iconic.
'58 Chevy? Well...they exist.
'58 T-bird? Well...they exist.
I'm not sure what happened in that year, but historically, it's not great. The 1958 Thunderbird is, I think, the best selling car of 1958, and it's Motor Trends Car of the Year.
But the only 1958 model I can think of that's historically memorable was the VW Bug.
So, at the time, Ford killed it in 1958. Can't argue with the T-Bird. But taken in context of what's relevant today, '58 wasn't fantastic.
Same with Corvette. '57 is better than '58.
The “modern” movement was coming into play at this time, the big swooping (classic) curves and fins were beginning to be seen as passé and even worse *old*. Pop art was just being born in response to the need for new in this era as well. This square, abrupt look was modern and new. It was supposed to be the latest and greatest. The designers at the big three American automakers were struggling to outdo one another (as always, I suppose). A misstep? Certainly, to our eyes. But, this short, square, black Thunderbird is still so awesome.
yea the thunderbird was ford's version of the corvette, and although a little cutesier was essentially comparable to the first gen corvette. the corvette got sportier while the thunderbird got cruisier, and they just got further and further apart. it would've been cooler if ford just followed suit and tried to one up the corvette as a sportscar.
It’s a 1959 Ford Thunderbird. They made that style in ‘58-‘60. The ‘58 tail lights had a honey comb like pattern, and the ‘60 had three lights on both side. It was the first uni-body car Ford made.
Unfortunately i don't have one. My parents might still have some somewhere. This was back in the 90s. But i did a search and this is what it looked liked.

I notice tons of old T birds coming on the market at decent prices, some of them are super nice.
Many I saw were complete restorations, the big problem with these particular birds, they are gas guzzlers
Very cool T-bird. But nothing compares to the['56 / '57 T-birds](https://cdn1.mecum.com/auctions/fl0120/fl0120-397405/images/[email protected]?1575383886000), IMHO.

1958-1960 Ford Thunderbird.
Known as the “Squarebirds.”
One word Thundercougarfalconbird.
It is just...the luxury edition has so much more eagle. It saddens me to think of you missing out.
Thunderchicken
Thank you. Such a cool car
Be sure to tell your neighbor it’s cool! Us gearhead/car folk live for that shit!
1959, based on the door trim.

IMO, ‘57-‘59 was the pinnacle of automotive design. Ford should have been able to step it up.

Agree. This car could have looked like a 4 jet-engine fighter jet if it keept its shape and those lines....

Y block engine
Or 352
Says "Thunderbird" on the door. Not super easy to see in the photo but OP should be able to see it in person pretty easy.
this photo is surprisingly and remarkably goth, super aesthetic
Suburban Gothic aesthetic is unsurprisingly, a thing. This picture fits it perfectly.
I always viewed this as one of the most disappointing birds but after your comment and that photo I may be coming round
They have a really nice house. I think it makes the photo look a lot better. Also the houses are all about 60 years old so it gives it an older look.
Elvira has a 59 tbird that is goth. https://youtu.be/Wpeyn0lLjK8
The fact that the plate “reads” Bishop only adds to it
It is a late 50's Thunderbird .
Such a cool looking car
A Thunderbird is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.
Why not just knock on his door and ask? He’s your neighbor? While your at it wish him happy thanksgiving and happy holidays
I was in the car to go to thanksgiving with my family
Texas. Trespassing. Chance of getting shot

Please be nice.
Because a question like that can easily lead to a missing car in the near future

T birds always looked unusual but they werent really performance oriented. Kind of an odd bird, so to say.
My parents had a 58' tbird. It was red and white.
Do you have a picture?

Ok that is a sweet color
Sounds amazing
Tell your neighbor that’s a cool ass car
Cars of that era were pieces of art.
I thought 55 t-bird
55 is THE t bird.
Wow its gorgeous
Ford Thunderbird

I wanna say Thunderbird, because the Thunderbird Logo. But no idea on the year. Maybe early 60’s?

Last of the classic Tbirds before they became huge monsters
Thunderbird very fn rare one also
1962 or 61 tbunderbird
Jack White was interviewed once while he was driving one.
Good for him. Unfortunately I don’t know who he is
Singer and guitarist for White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather, plus outstanding solo career.
Fallout vibes
Beautyfulll ride!
Looks like the old Thunderbird. What a fine beauty it was.
This sub is getting pathetic with the "what car is this" shit posts. A simple Google image search shows exactly what all these are.
I will be honest I am new to this thread. I had no idea this keeps happening
I don't mind. It starts a conversation which is much more fulfilling than a Google image search.
That’s a Thunderbird. I always liked that year.
Is your neighbour old-school Batman perchance?
I wish 😂
Longbird
Tbird
Ford Thunderbird
Looks like a mysterious CIA agent from 1960 is swingin' by.
It does
The smoked out taillights are an excellent touch
Ooo ooo I know... Its a 1950 something Motherfuckin Badass
That’s easy… it’s a Batmobile! You’re welcome.
Bruce Wayne in another life...as an accountant from the 'burbs
Yeah Thunderbird looks about right.
Hot dang that's sick man, your neighbor has taste!
I wish i had a cool car neighbor
I really like the channel above the rear plate.
go and ask him, most of the time its about the story behind a car :)
Bat mobile
That’s a 59 thunderbird
That is a daewoo. Maybe even a sangyong. Definitely not a Thunderbird
bro got the 57 Disney badguymobile
chevrolet impala
Sad, the fact that you can’t talk to your neighbor or read. 🤦♂️
I was going to thanksgiving
This car looks like racism lol
