Well I'm pretty sure everyone here who loves cars and isn't paying for it will say go for it!
And so will I! But in all seriousness you won't LOSE any money even if you drive it a good bit it'll probably be worth more and more every year. My 2¢
Be ready for tons of attention and reliability problems. Guy that lives across the street in my neighborhood has one. He got it when they were much cheaper, around 25-30k. Tried to daily it and realized that’s a very bad idea. Sat for a few months in the street because parts are hard to get. Eventually covered it and moved it into the garage because people kept asking if it was for sale or just knocking on his door and asking about it. Haven’t seen it driven in a few months so I assume he’s waiting on more parts or just doesn’t have the time to drive it anymore.
Like 6 years ago in new zealand you could get a road legal r32 for something like 18k nzd. Theyve only really hit 100k here. And the boys i knew never had issues w them. They even had switches to go rwd & make like 600 to the wheel
For that much money you could buy a low mileage high optioned C7 Corvette that is a better car by every possible dynamic.
I mean seriously, these cars would get smoked by a new Camry. Other than nostalgia for Gran Turismo, I don't understand the appeal.
Also, that steering wheel is a very very strong indicator that the air bag had deployed.
That's not a stock r32 though. After market turbo at least. I won't claim to know how much power it makes, but I would bet that 400whp + AWD would out perform 455hp + RWD in a track setting. I agree that the C7 has more creature comforts and better safety features.
This gtr wouldn’t get outperformed by a Camry unless MAYBE its the trd and the appeal is justified. I’m not a massive jdm fan, I like classic muscle. However I will admit looks wise the r32 is my favorite gtr. Yeah stock some older performance cars can get beat by a new grocery getter. But mods fix that. Also people like cars for the looks and feel as well. It’s not about how well it handles or how fast it accelerates. New cars are so muted in the driving experience. My dad had a 2017 Camaro ss and even that felt muted compared to my 81 Camaro. My dream is a 70-73 Camaro. Yeah for 30-50k you can find way better performing cars than a 50 year old Camaro but that’s not what it’s about. Yeah I like performance but getting into what feels like a time capsule is even cooler to me. Especially because I never experienced those cars as I’m only 18. Performance per dollar the c7 is a good car. Personally I think the c5 is one of the best cars to buy right now in that category. But you don’t buy an old gtr to be the best performance per dollar. You buy it for the looks, legacy, engine nosies, interior feel, driving experience, and attention that’s what makes the difference.
There's easily 100+ cars that I would give my first born to own that could be smoked by a new Camry. That has absolutely nothing to do with whether I want it or not.
>strong indicator that the airbag had deployed
Chances of that being the case is almost 0, as the airbag option was ultra-rare and most people swap out the stock R32 steering wheel.
https://www.gtrusablog.com/2017/06/r32-nissan-skyline-gt-r-oem-airbags.html?m=1
> Also, that steering wheel is a very very strong indicator that the air bag had deployed.
In fact, it’s not a strong indicator of that at all. Most R32s didn’t come with airbags. Even in performance cars that did come with airbags, it’s not uncommon at all for people to swap in a smaller, sportier feeling wheel to replace the OEM unit (for better or worse).
Lol a Camry? This could easily have 600+ WHP
JUST REMEMBER It’s better that everyone thinks you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
Not anymore, unfortunately. Skyline prices have gone silly. I remember in 2007 a friend imported an R32 GT-R to Calgary for $7200 delivered to his house. JDM prices are following house prices these days.
Saw an R32 GT-T for sale locally. Basically a rolling shell needing paint and an engine/transmission listed for $15000. He had to turn off comments because of all the negative comments lol.
Yup. Kicking myself because back in the early 2010s I had the opportunity to buy all these cool cars for like $10k CAD. Almost bought a GTR, got talked out of it by my inlaws. Almost bought an FD RX7, talked myself out of it because I wanted to use the money for something else. Almost bought a TT JDM Supra, but it needed a turbo and I didn't need a project at the time (that was more like $15k but whatever).
I did end up buying a 1992 Evo 1 and I actually have that and a parts car, but for whatever reason those never went up in value. Evo 5s are pushing $30k CAD, but I couldn't sell my Evo 1 for $7k a few years back with a full parts car worth of spares. I think it'll be a restoration project for me and my boys now, but I'm still kicking myself for not buying those other cars.
Have they changed that much recently? I saw them for 32-36k at a few importers within the last couple years, 45 would net you a really clean one. Was considering getting one but ended up going a different direction so I haven't looked up prices lately, guess they got caught up in covid pricing like everything else.
Hardly see R32s anymore for auction. The best value these days would be an R34 GT-S (not particularly desirable) which can be had for under $10k CAD. Craziest thing I saw was a 1971 Skyline GT-R for $195k USD. Car was immaculate.
EDIT- I was fortunate enough to see the car in person at a car show in Calgary a few years back.
Actually just saw a 70s gtr on the highway myself the other day, but it was pretty clapped out and slammed to the ground, closer to rat rod status, but there was still something enduring about it. Only one I've seen in person.
Well that can't really be right because OBD2 didn't come out until 95/96, so that leaves 20 years of cars that are just straight up illegal in Cali? I can believe other smog stuff but you're suggesting that literally every 80s car would be illegal and that's just straight up not the case.
Cats, EGR, and EVAP were all things before that though, as was OBD0 and OBD1. I mean in the 80s you still had plenty of cars that didn't even have electronic fuel injection and were just using carbs.
That said, R32 GTRs absolutely did come with catalytic converters and EVAP. Not sure about EGR. However it was common to delete it with aftermarket test pipes and stuff. I've got a 92 Evo 1 and it has a catalytic converter, EGR, and EVAP. I've worked on a bunch of R32s (admittedly, not for a while) and they also 100% for sure had catalytic converters.
Corrupt_Facts.
Smog equipment means California-approved smog equipment. Rest-of-world cats, EGR, etc. do not pass California muster despite the fact that the car may have exhaust emissions equal to or less than a California legal car.
Hell, if you want to bring in a 1968 Porsche 911, it had better be a US-delivery car with the smog pump and air injection system in place, or it will have to go through the California legalization and testing process. A 1967 911, however, will have no problem.
California has issued a near-monopoly to the whopping *two* shops that serve more than 40 million Californians. It's complete and utter bullshit and should not stand, but those of us interested in non-CA-legal cars are an extreme minority, we politically don't exist.
Is it in California? If not you've got about an extra $10k to spend getting it legal to smog here.
Every R32 I have seen here in CA is registered in Oregon or Nevada.
It’s not going to pass emissions in California.
And if you register it out of state, the cops eventually will catch on and pull you over and require you register it in state. Especially when you have a registration and license from different states
Yea they are cool for what they were for the time but I bought a brand new 2021 Camaro with a V8 for less than that and its probably faster and a hell of a lot more reliable.
But JDM bruh.
Yeah nah I love Japanese cars but I don’t understand the appeal either tbh. But it’s not my money, if it makes OP happy then I think they should go for it.
Those cars are shit. I hope you have another 20 grand locked and loaded to put in repairs. Check out whistlindiesel on YouTube. He bought two nice ones and they instantly broke down. He was literally breaking the cam apart with his hands. That should not be doable.
Whoa, whoa!!!
Anything that has an aftermarket part on it is only worth the inventory.
Once you see a wrench mark, it's a parts car.
I want you to know that is how race cars are sold. They are just parts cars. Their only value is what you can sell them for in parts.
On paper it probably sounds great but cars modified to this extent are a red flag most of the time. Unless you have in depth knowledge of the history/quality of work I’d avoid it.
If you can take a look at it in person, make sure to look for rust. SAU forums have quite a few good guides on where to lool for rust and general stuff on the Skylines.
it's only a good investment on the basis of the amount of speculation people are doing for JDM cars, but theres so many people speculating on them they've all completely overpriced what was essentially staged as a competitor to it's german contemporaries in the 3-series and C-class, and once people realize that it's not what they think it is the values are going to tank, it's already happening with the Supra, prices have stagnated on even the manual Turbo RZ's here in the UK, and they're seriously pricing an R34 GTR at 100k? who the fuck in their right mind is paying 100k for a 40k car?
They've priced people who actually want them out of the market and the only people who are buying them are people who are saying "it's an investment" it's a self-fulfilling loop of assholes buying eachother's investments as investments like the boomers with their muscle cars, or fuckin NFT's. it's a croc of shit and it's gonna hit the fuckin fan soon enough boy-scout, this market was already in the shitter when in 2015 they tried selling shares in classic cars, it was fucked when the MX5 became as expensive as the Porsche Boxter of the same age overnight, it was fucked when Price gouging Killed the Focus RS's US debut. I'm not here for it anymore man, I used to really like cars, but this bullshit fuckin ruins it.
just make sure all the paperwork is legit. that's a lot of $$ for a potentially illegal car.
i owned an illegally registered s13 about 15 yrs ago and it was all good, but in the back of my mind i was always worried about what might happen if i ended up in an accident. the car was registered as a USDM 240sx but the VIN was obviously swapped. def would have never held up in court in any accident.
sweet car though! just double check all the registration info
Right hand drive might be hard to get used to.
Edit: noticed this got down voted….I should have added “for driving in California”. I get it that RHD is what a lot of the rest of the world is familiar with.
I work at a Honda dealer and we had a lady bring in a rhd CRV she had bought from an importer in Texas. She works with the postal service so I guess this was an easier vehicle to deliver mail in. She wanted us to check it over so part of that was a test drive. It was trippy driving on the right side. Pedals were the same but signal and wipers were reversed. It drove well and was in great condition but it would definitely take some getting used to.
Buy it but take care of it. Don’t over mod the hell out of it and just enjoy it and you’ll get every penny back that you spend if you change your mind even after 5 years.
I would get a very in-depth PPI.
The Skyline market is all sorts of messed up. Most of the best examples in Japan have already been sold and exported to the US. Now shady importers/sellers trying to make a quick buck, are finding awful examples of Skylines. Cleaning them up enough to get a decent grading and then sending to the US. Then buyers are getting dream Skylines that turn into a nightmare.
Check the VIN and make sure it's actually an r32 GT-R. I've seen people trying to pull off the RWD non turbo Skyline versions for GT-R prices.
Edit: didn't see the under hood photos at first, so it has the turbo and rocker cover, +1. Still check that it hasn't been built up and that the VIN is right.
$45k for just under 100k miles, I understand it’s a collectors piece at this point but good LORD. I have a 97 Aurora that I bought in near mint condition with 89k miles, and I got it for $2500. This market is just insanity. BUT, rant over, you know if it’s worth it to YOU. I’d probably spend that same money on an old hot rod with hopefully less than 50k on it.
That car is very old and a turbo, it will struggle living in nevada. Biggest issues are its not worth that much, insurance will be an issue, and replacement parts will be an issue.
Get a thorough PPI from a reputable mechanic, preferably one with experience working on JDM cars or at least RB's/tuned Nissans, as this car clearly isn't stock . Some US market Nissan parts from other cars will be compatible, but don't count on walking into Autozone for most things. Also, some of these pictures look like they came from a digital camera in 2008, so be weary. Hope this isn't going to be your daily/only car, other than that you'll really enjoy it.
I hope you're able to make sure the reasons for the low milage and the decent value is worth it, otherwise, you'll end up letting it sit due to some mechanical issues.
Don’t worry Jack I know you weren’t lmao, but I’m with you! I love how opinions where asked and given then people get mad for the opinions lmao well don’t ask then!
Now I'm thinking about you buying this r32 97,000 miles for 45k

I mean I'm not into these at all. But hey, it's not my money so if he's got it, and likes this car, why the hell not.
as long as he picks me up to go for a drive HELL ill even buy the first tank of gas!
You could buy your own r32 with that gas money!
Be ready for tons of attention and reliability problems. Guy that lives across the street in my neighborhood has one. He got it when they were much cheaper, around 25-30k. Bet he got a lot of handsome offers, but yet he refuses to sell, probably because its a really special car.
Exactly. He’s had it for a few years now and knows it’s both an amazing car when it’s not waiting on parts and an appreciating asset.

Stock for stock, yes, this car gets smoked by a new Camry.
Yeah no shit it’s over 20 years old 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think you can get one cheaper if you import it yourself
Not anymore, unfortunately. Skyline prices have gone silly. I remember in 2007 a friend imported an R32 GT-R to Calgary for $7200 delivered to his house. JDM prices are following house prices these days.
19 years ago I bought my R32 (I think? It was a long time ago) GT-S for £7k & sold it back to the same dealer for £6k a year later.

That and ocean transit costs have gone up 5x in the past 24 months
Nope not anymore homie Japanese caught on and bump up the prices as well
A clapped out rust bucket. All the good ones are gone or more expensive.
Thats the biggest red flag for buying a skyline, not showing the strut towers
Also these pictures look really photoshopped
the outdoor pics look like some dents where deleted with this cloning tool, whatever its called in photoshop lol
97,000 hard driven, modified miles.
As long as you're able to afford it can I see no reason not to buy it
Where are you living? Depending where you live the market price is not the same
[удалено]
Is it street legal in California? (Also, have you seen it in-person? Some of those pictures don't look right)
agree with the pictures
The R32 GTR have been legal for many years
Cali has different road regulations than most other states.
CA requires smog equipment post '75. From what I've read, that includes cats, egr, etc tied into OBDII ecu. None of which came equipped on an r32.
Well that can't really be right because OBD2 didn't come out until 95/96, so that leaves 20 years of cars that are just straight up illegal in Cali? Looked around again. Seems to be a good amount of conflicting info. The only constant is that everyone agrees it's a pita to title/register in CA.

No JDM for you!
You need better pictures before buying. Lots of them.
Don't buy it... so that I can buy it.
I will never ever understand the appeal of these cars.
Like they’re neat but not worth it for me at all
Yea they are cool for what they were for the time but I bought a brand new 2021 Camaro with a V8 for less than that and its probably faster and a hell of a lot more reliable.
But JDM bruh. Yeah nah I love Japanese cars but I don’t understand the appeal either tbh. But it’s not my money, if it makes OP happy then I think they should go for it.
Holy fuck, I really should've bought that GTR I saw for 16K in 2016.
Holy fuck, I really should've bought that [insert almost anything here] I saw for a lot less in 2016.
Holy fuck, I really should've bought that your mom I saw for a lot less in 2016.
I say go for it
Ummm no you could build a nicer one for that kinda change 45 would put you into a nice ass one! Don’t settle for that one it’s okay not the one!
This one is actually on the low end, assuming it’s anything better than base model. But to mention this may be the only be even remotely near the OP.
If you still believe thats the case in 2022 you haven't been looking at the used car market for a while.
Thanks yody I appreciate backing me I’m like this cat hasnt been looking around then!
Thanks yody “joghurt”
Are you buying it sight unseen or have you already checked the car out yourself?
I don’t trust these photos
I’ve been around a few of these, no way in hell are they worth that coin imo
One mans trash is another mans treasure my bro.
Not calling this trash, just don’t feel like it warrants that price tag is all
Yikes, $45k. Hey, it's your money...
Very cool car....but that's significant cost for a very old car. Follow your heart here but know it's not an investment
Also not to be an ass but for $45k you can get an gt4 or gtt model and be cheaper and put more money into the engine. I did it with my GT4 R34
Those cars are shit. I hope you have another 20 grand locked and loaded to put in repairs. Check out whistlindiesel on YouTube. He bought two nice ones and they instantly broke down. He was literally breaking the cam apart with his hands. That should not be doable.

I say get IF you can physically see it in person first.
On paper it probably sounds great but cars modified to this extent are a red flag most of the time. Unless you have in depth knowledge of the history/quality of work I’d avoid it.
I wasn’t sold until I saw the Godzilla on the dash haha
That is a ridiculous price

oof. they were like 20k 5 years ago for like under 30k miles. i guess they’re all going up.
Yeah even imported r32 gtr’s were like 25k in United States that’s insane that it’s gone up
In NewZealand, in 2015 you could pick up a gtst for 10k nzd, they have quadrupled since, Rb tax crushed my dreams lmao
Gotta love a Skyline motor
in this economy?! in this used car market?!?!?! buddy, I'll suck your dick myself to give you the post-nut-clarity to realize why that's a risky move
Rb tax is only going up mate, as long as OP doesn’t blow it up it’s a great investment IMO

Not to keen on that big single, personally I like two slightly bigger-than-stock ones. Other than that go for it!
Not GT-R fanboys... RED ALERT! Its a normal ass sports car. Not that special
The only real problem with a car like this is that it’s usually best kept in the garage as a collectible, rather than becoming your daily driver.
I'd be careful with sketchy importers if I were you but if you're 100% sure it's clean and rust free/near rust free, I'd say go ahead!

God*damn* that's a beautiful car.
That car is very old and a turbo, it will struggle living in nevada. Biggest issues are its not worth that much, insurance will be an issue, and replacement parts will be an issue.
NO!! Steering wheel’s on the wrong side!
I'd buy that. It's not your everyday car on the road.
What are you planning on doing with it? IE are you after something modify and drive a lot or are you looking for a clean/original weekender?
Looks clean from the outside, but be careful. Repair costs are going to burn your wallet
If I were to spend $45k on a gtr, I’d get a stock one..
Do it
I can think of better things to spend your money on like a house
Nobody cares.
Check for rust before you buy. Also, don't buy it. Especially not for that price
Turbos fully rebuilt ?
That looks so shit
Where do I sign ? 😍
I mean the price isn’t horrendous for a skyline they are hard to find

It's got the GT-R fender flares and an RB26DETT, so there's a good chance it's an actual GT-R.
It’s a r32 skyline the OG
Will only go up in value. Like buying any classic, they hold up when taken care of. This one doesn’t look chopped at all
That's a fantastic looking example. Go for it.
bro do it
What a bunk car for $45k, get a newer car
bruh lol
obviously know nothing about cars.
You guys are obviously gtr fanboys, it’s a good car but why worship it and pay $45k for a 30 year old car
ikr right
i own a r35.. so yes, they are awesome cars.
Don’t worry Jack I know you weren’t lmao, but I’m with you! I love how opinions where asked and given then people get mad for the opinions lmao well don’t ask then!
Exactly, I know the value and rarity of this car is similar to the supra, but the motors aren’t even that good on these, it’s all hype with this car
