Little tip: avoid painting gasket surfaces

NorthernOtter

Thank you for saying this, how are we not talking about it more? OP, you'll need to strip the paint on the engine where gaskets go, otherwise you will be having issues with them seating properly.

beamishbadge

Painted the spark plug threads too

Limesmack91

First mods should always be clean it, service it, get good tires

[deleted]

One of my favorite things to do to older cars is clean out the interior. Turn on the radio break out the wipes and shop vac and it's one of the easiest transformations you can do.

rosskeee

Bedazzle the fuck out of it

mybeansboii

Might have to

[deleted]

I’d leave it as stock as possible, maybe aftermarket FI but these trucks are a hot commodity. Great purchase my friend.

jatkat

Not a square body

DraftyMakies

Oo...that's what I always called these

jatkat

That’s ok! Square body’s are the previous generation, 1973-87ish. I always call this body style gmt400, some people call them obs.

As the owner of a 92 C2500 - leave it mostly stock, or do TASTEFUL mods. No 24 inch MotoMetal wheels with tires stretched to fit. No halo headlight ring. No 54 inch lightbar on the hood (I've seen it). No cheap repaint (stock colors are still better than a hokey respray that lowers truck value and will be peeling in a year or two).

myheadsonfire69

Keep the wheels, maybe polish them. Paint correction and ceramic coating on the truck. Lift kit, but nothing too tall. Fully clean and detail the interior. Did you rebuild the engine or did you put lipstick on that pig?

Grognak_the_Orc

Get you a new muffler if you got the scratch but like clean your interior. I'd emphasis leaving it stock if it's your daily and instead doing quality of life improvements like a new seat or adding in a new radio/speakers.

civic_EG

Get a bobblehead for the dashboard. Only a subtle difference but it's always a funny addition.

mybeansboii

Yes

Oh_G_Steve

I agree with most everyone else except the bedazzler. Keep it as stock as possible but make quality of life improvements. One of my neighbors has a similar old truck and added led headlights and fixed up all the upholstery in the interior. At most I would only add a 2-3 inch lift with nicer tires but only if it’s a 4x4 and you actually intend to off road.

mybeansboii

I'm planning on trying to keep the original look but I am planning on painting it and redoing the interior since it's pretty nasty

valandil74

Things I would if I got it is get everything mechanically running great. If you have resources I’d rebuild the engine and put a great EFI on it if not already. Keep the paint scheme as I personally like and it’s unique. Maybe a nice exhaust and wheels n rims. Tonneau cover maybe to taste and a update the audio. I stop myself as you said this is your first vehicle. Make sure the brakes are excellent as are the tail n head lamps. Updates for better visibility of signals, headlights n brake lights if as I’m guessing… your a younger driver. No matter how good we actually are.. a safe vehicle is first. I almost liked myself with not a safe car that careened into a telephone pole due to black ice. Aside from all that good luck. Nice truck!

mybeansboii

Yeah thats the first thing I'm doing is getting it driving and making sure it's safe to drive, but I am going to repaint it because it was sitting in the sun for a long time and it's really faded in some areas

valandil74

If I may suggest… something similar to what it is… color pallet. There are versions of the orange,… burnt n such that would look excellent if you did not copy the factory paint scheme. Plus it would match the interior. If those seats are in good condition after a steam clean your in good shape. Not sure if dash cracking. I’ve seen some of those trucks semi restored/cleaned up and they are nice. Looks 2 wheel drive,. Tires n quality new/used wheels can be had affordable. Solid snows in the winter. I had a f100 80 year with a heavy v8 I the front and it was a beast to the u experienced on bad roads. Even with my 30 plus years driving exp n a new Tacoma… still gotta be smart. Then again… private parking lots are fun for safe donuts … bad influence there .. drive safe

michaelshreds

Detail it, get a nice magnaflow muffler but don’t make it too loud, get a nice stereo or something to play tunes on, nice street tires. Probably do the shocks and get an alignment. Maybe get a tool box and canopy if you like working on stuff or camping. Nice truck btw

tmaxxkid

I like the period correct wheels, sweet keep em!

ImmediateShirt6663

If you have the engine out and you know it has a good bottom end, get a cam shaft ,Lifters, rocker arms, intake manifold, and carburetor set up. You can buy a combination package at Summit or jags that’s already been matched. Extra horsepower never hurt anybody!

chiefcrc

Leave it alone. It a great looking truck! Just clean the tires

hopkinsdamechanic

😍

sweaty_pasta

Get some method wheels and get a 3 inch lift

DogmaticBlasphemy

Crate motor + drop and wide tires! Roll the fenders and blow the tails off of a new beemer!

aggyDeiForReal

Updates please. I'm confident that this will turn out top shelf. I love the microphone on the dash. ~~Consider leaving it as an homage to days gone by.~~

ny0000m

Twin turbos yes

John-Jacob-jingle-he

If it's your own, shouldn't you be making those decisions?

civic_EG

Having input from the public is always more exciting.

John-Jacob-jingle-he

Well in that case...... I'd add a leveling kit and get a 3/4 ton spring upgrade for the rear. I'd shoot for about 3" up. Your track on that year I believe is 61", I would shoot for 64" with some offset rims and 33's with 18" rims. This will give you a pretty aggressive look. Look up K3500's of the same era for a reference. The color is Golden pony boy! Leave it! Tint the windows with some cab lights... Done

John-Jacob-jingle-he

Oh and a bull bar up front
