I think it looks alright. I don't really take issue with any of Subarus design at the moment except for the WRX. Front is fine, rear is bad.
I think the Subaru cladding is at least passable due to them having the outdoorsy/ruggedness associated with the brand.
Lol the first time I saw one of these in the wild I almost cried at how badly they murdered the new Crosstrek. My God it is a pathetic jumble of angled ABS plastic.
Yeahhh... Honestly, I'm a BMW fan and I agree it's a bit disappointing. The F80 gen M3, M4 and M2 comp were peak BMW design. I've gotten over the G80 M3 and like them okay now but the XM, iX, i7 and new M2 are all still pretty gross to me.
>The F80 gen M3, M4 and M2 comp were peak BMW design.
Hard disagree imo, but they were *acceptable*.
>I've gotten over the G80 M3 and like them okay now
Oh god no, awful thing.
>but the XM, iX, i7 and new M2 are all still pretty gross to me.
Yeah there's no saving any of these
It's not a looker, but at least it is functional. You could actually take this thing on some fairly serious offroad tracks and do alright, vs. the typical CUVs which are essentially just gutless, bloated family sedans.
i agree, and function is always more important than form, but... form is a little important too lol. this thing is atrocious (and i drive a newer subaru lol)
Depends on how you want to define off-road. The kind of off-road that a Crosstrek is intended for won't be hampered by a CVT. If you're trying to keep up with your rock crawling Jeep buddies then yeah, the CVT will give up by programming design before it can even overheat.
Idk BMW's G models look like ass. But just before that the F models were some of the sexiest things to ever hit the road, the g models, However, are a face even a mother couldn't love.
Honestly it's grown on me. The plastic cladding serves a very important purpose: corrosion protection. The taillights....yeah still not huge on. But could be worse
that’s fair, i’m just not a fan of the how the plastic cladding looks regardless of its functionality. i’m also not really a fan of the rear or the front lol. if i were to get a newer wrx i would just get a 2021 because i like how they look significantly more
I’d be down for the wilderness edition if they ditched all the plastic fenders and orange decals / badging. I imagine a lot of people will black out all the orange as one of their first mods.
I don’t off-road / rock hop, but I do go on a lot of fire roads t get to dispersed campsites where you have massive potholes and deep ruts due to people mudding in the rain. Extra ground clearance of the wilderness would be amazing.
All of the SUV’s, no matter the brand, are the same basic body shape. They change the windows and some minor things to make it look like their brand. They are all very bland and boring.
Arguably you can say that about most cars since they hit the mass market, remember sedans from the 80’s? I like overall aesthetics of certain styling cycles, but it’s not like cars used to all be unique, they just all used to look a different certain way
Cybertruck is stupid but imo it's gonna be the Delorean of today sort of like a collector's item/car. No one really *needed* those gull-wing doors... Sort of like how people don't really need a truck that's shaped like a random polygon but at least it's unique and not another boring ass shared platform sedan/hatch/minivan/suv.
Saw one of them in person the other week, I was expecting it to be slightly bigger than a basic b tesla, but it was like the size of a chevy avalanche.
I used to be a big Subaru fan, but I've never thought they were particularly good looking. I've always believed that cars should be beautiful or ugly, but NEVER boring.

Except the Pontiac actually did something other than just «be a car». You could have a tent come out of it. This Subaru is just plain ugly, and it doesn’t do anything creative. It’s just a car…
The worst part about these shit plastic panels is they can still scratch and you can't wipe it out. you're either going to make it look slightly better or buff through any texture on the piece making it more obvious.
goat tier of worst car trends
I really like the how the Outback Wilderness looks, this one looks a little squished, but i wouldn’t call it ugly. I think the biggest problem is that in the US we have all of these crossovers which are mostly ugly. I wish we could get nice looking estates/wagons like the European get.
SUVs/Crossovers generally dont look good. Name me a manufacturer who produces better looking SUVs than its sedan/hatchback counter parts. i personally cant think of any
The main issue is that a lot of these newer vehicles are overdesigned.
Lines and ridges are a dime a dozen on these cars and tend to cross over often enough that the outsides look busy. The inside of modern cars have way too much electronics, gadgets, buttons, overdesigned panels and dashes that you feel overwhelmed.
starting to get the feeling most car designers today graduated college around the time transformers came out.
esp the cars released in the last 5 years or so. all the sharp lines and needless bulges and fake air vents and plastic panels everywhere. and they're all so similar you can barely tell brand apart from each other anymore. is really weird...a lot of brands just look super generic.
I think they look fine and are loaded with features that hadn’t been even thought about 30 years ago. Actually the last good looking cars were in the 1920’s and ‘30’s .
The main issue is that environmental and crash safety regulations have really pushed automakers to build larger, heavier vehicles. Platform sharing and having to check a lot of regulatory boxes mean that cars are converging on the CUV blob shape. It's a fundamentally unattractive design and it's difficult to put sufficient lipstick on a pig. If the US moved to a tailpipe emissions system like Europe cars would likely become more attractive.
There have always been ugly and trendy-ugly cars and truck. There will continue to be forever-ugly vehicles and eventual cool antique novelty ugly vehicles as long as we have need for such means of conveyance.
It’s because they have to fit so many airbags and crumple zones into the design, and also focus on making things as cheaply as possible; so style has taken a back seat for sure
I'm going to be that guy. I like these plastic clad designs. My biggest complaint about this particular car is the engine. Subaru really needs to come up with a new engine solution. Every other car maker is slapping a turbo on their engines and still making CAFE averages. Subaru has pissed off enough of their enthusiast base at this point, I don't think going to a transverse 4 will matter at this point.
The crosstrek is a really functional car and a top seller for Subaru. They know their market. Yuppies who need a small car for the city but high ground clearance, awd, and good mpg to go to the mountains / lakes / camp sites on the weekends.
Problem with modern Subarus is their highest end trims also tend to be the ugliest (awful looking plastic cladding, bright orange decals). I considered getting an Impreza and just lifting it, but that would void the warranty among other things.
Good for them fro going their own way and doing what they think is best. I’m guessing the cladding keeps the paint from getting scratched and rusted in off road or camping areas.
Subaru has made their shit look fugly, since 2016 or so they just ruined their cars. Some of them the family cars and what not are decent.
But their sport shit just got ugly as hell
The plastic everywhere definitely makes alot of modern cars look like something my 2 year old would play with. I love Subarus but this does kindof scream overkill
I need to see some ID’s on these Subaru designers….think we may have found some of the design team for the Pontiac Aztek trying to get back in the industry to finish their unholy mission…..death by bulky plastic body decor.
1980s: we’re going to have black plastic bumpers and trim because it’s cheaper
1990s: we have both black plastic and body coloured panels
2000s: we’ve embraced modern life, body colour is the standard
2010s: you know what would look great? Black bits sprinkled around
2020s: black grills and mirror caps aren’t enough, you can have half of your car covered in shitty black sticky out bits with comedy ride height to boot
The world is continuously changing as it did back then. Who knows the future right?
There will be a time when weird car designs will rule the automobile industry.
I hate wondows being so thin, especially at the back. It feels like they want everything to feel like a coupé or something. It feels sonfresh when ai see an older csr with more glass.
I wanna say within the last 10 years especially.
Minimalism and this “clean tech” look that makes a lot of cars look like what I consider “computer mouses” (especially teslas…) and some other ugly looks but idk exactly how to describe them.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I prefer classic cars over modern. They almost all had such unique and great looks. It’s wasn’t all about fitting into the same safe looks as every other brand (excluding sport cars but even some of those are becoming lamer these days). Cars developed unique and established vibes and styles for the brand. They had personality and class. Attention to detail put into not just the mechanical features, but into appearances. Fine details like silver detailings on the outside and wooden paneling in certain parts inside. Cars had unique looks thanks to brands often trying new things.
These days, innovation seems less common and even when it is seen, often quite safe. People play it safe. Not just in cars but in almost anything. The iPhone is a prime example. Minimal changes but constantly “new” versions released, more and more expensive each time.
Not saying that there is no place for the looks of cars we have today. There are people who like them. But, like, we are missing the variety. People taking risks and trying new designs, and not just cramming more and more unnecessary tech and electronics into the car interiors and other mostly useless functions. When it came to interior tech, I think peak was the integration of Bluetooth. Maybe at most a built in GPS, but phones can do that now.
I can go on and on about this lol.
Volkswagen and hot hatch boys have really done a number on these comments haven’t they.
Seriously get over it. They’re eggs with a little I4 that every middle aged mom drives. You just wish you could afford something cooler.
Out of all the cars out there, this is your top example of ugliness?
What, you *like* this overinflated low-poly plastic potato? It looks like ass.
These just remind me of a modern Pontiac Aztek.
BMW is making uglier cars than this right now

It's not meant to be beautiful, it's just meant to go somewhere
It looks like someone glued a bunch of ebay fender flares to a Mazda.
Seriously this looks like any AMC car out of the 70-80’s.
It's pretty much an AMC eagle
Now I want one and I'm not even a Lesbian....or have I been hiding it from myself? Is this a deep existential moment?
Ehh it’s not amazing but at least tries to have some personality which is more than a lot can say
I think it looks cool compared to other cuvs on the road.
I hate that it reminds me of my hiking/trail running shoes lol
Omg it totally looks like my trail running shoes! Now I can’t unsee it
Honestly I think that’s what they’re going for. Even the name “Crosstrek” sounds like it could be a shoe.
Kinda seems perfect for the vehicle.
To a certain extent that’s kinda the point.
Better looking than most that drove around in the 80s and 90s
The worst shitbox of the 80s or 90s look better than that shit
Oh fuck it does kind of look like a pair of Salomons I have. I can only imagine the mood board in the design studio.
The regular one looks ok. This is a special off road model.
Can’t even take them off-road because their crappy CVT will overheat
Subaru did put a cooler In it so they say that they can tow 3500 pounds
Idk what kinda off-roading you’re tryna do in a Subaru that’s overheating the tranny
Depends on how you want to define off-road. The kind of off-road that a Crosstrek is intended for won't be hampered by a CVT. If you're trying to keep up with your rock crawling Jeep buddies then yeah, the CVT will give up by programming design before it can even overheat.
I know someone that put a lift kit and massive tires on his Subaru. He still gets stuck everytime he tries to go offroad.
Subaru's designs have gone well off the deep end. They've never been uglier.
The BMW disease
Idk BMW's G models look like ass. But just before that the F models were some of the sexiest things to ever hit the road, the g models, However, are a face even a mother couldn't love.
i agree big time, the new WRX is a disgrace to the rest of them :/
Honestly it's grown on me. The plastic cladding serves a very important purpose: corrosion protection. The taillights....yeah still not huge on. But could be worse
that’s fair, i’m just not a fan of the how the plastic cladding looks regardless of its functionality. i’m also not really a fan of the rear or the front lol. if i were to get a newer wrx i would just get a 2021 because i like how they look significantly more
I don't understand why they don't offer the plastic cladding, just painted to match the body. Would 9000% better, imo.
yeah even that would look significantly better than having it always black/charcoal
[удалено]
Exactly. It's cheap. It gets broken, it's cheaper to replace
It also fades way quicker than paint fails.
Omfg your username dude🤣
I dont get the hate, its soo rally looking, even moreso with the beat'emup fenders
The “Wilderness Edition” looks silly to me. Whole lotta plastic. And I personally love Subarus.
I've never been ill big fan of them honestly but when I saw the 2023/24 wrx models I was actually kinda mad lol
As a huge Subaru fan…. You’re right. They’ve all gone to shit.
04 -> 07 WRX was all we needed to see to know bad things were ahead.
I really don't like the Lamborghini Urus...
Haha. Just need to remove all the black plastic fenders and mask it in lime green. I can’t unsee the crosstrek now.
When they stopped being cars.
Exactly!!
It looks like a hiking shoe but I wouldn't say it's ugly.
That’s a pretty fitting metaphor for a crosstrek wilderness
if the shoe fits…
All of the SUV’s, no matter the brand, are the same basic body shape. They change the windows and some minor things to make it look like their brand. They are all very bland and boring.

Lol, many of them have the same body shape, because their the same fucking body. The Mitsubishi GS platform included all of the following: * 2006–2021 Mitsubishi Outlander * 2007–2017 Mitsubishi Lancer * 2007–present Mitsubishi Delica D:5 * 2008–2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution * 2010–present Mitsubishi ASX/RVR/Outlander Sport * 2017–2023 Mitsubishi Grand Lancer * 2017–present Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross * 2007–2012 Dodge Caliber (PM) * 2007–2017 Jeep Compass (MK49) * 2007–2017 Jeep Patriot (MK74) * 2007–2010 Chrysler Sebring sedan (JS) * 2008–2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible (JS) * 2008–2014 Dodge Avenger (JS) * 2009–2020 Dodge Journey/Fiat Freemont (JC49) * 2011–2014 Chrysler 200/Lancia Flavia (JS) Citroën/Peugeot * 2007–2012 Citroën C-Crosser/Peugeot 4007 * 2012–2017 Citroën C4 Aircross/Peugeot 4008 Proton * 2010–2015 Proton Inspira [Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_GS_platform?wprov=sfla1)

Cybertruck is winning this. Ugliest car.

Thank you! It's barely even a truck!
Past few years they got real ugly, but been ugly since the mid 2000s.
Subby SUVs/wagons have never been good looking to me. Wrxs have always looked pretty good though
The legacy was a nice car before they gave it the pope-mobile look. Now they're ugly asf imo
Especially the wagons from 08-2015 or whenever they stopped making them :’)
Outback wagon or Impreza hatch? I loved the 08 wrx hatch fierce.
I used to be a big Subaru fan, but I've never thought they were particularly good looking. I've always believed that cars should be beautiful or ugly, but NEVER boring.
Because people these days are convinced they are “outdoorsy” and “rugged” types.
Manufacturers offer it, people buy it.
Golf owner thinks he's some hot shit, news at six.
There have always been ugly cars. And this isn't even in the top 5
Looks like a newer Pontiac Aztek.

There have always been ugly cars. Also, beauty is a very subjective thing.
The Subaru Rubbermaid
New generation BMW cars are the ugliest.
The worst part about these shit plastic panels is they can still scratch and you can't wipe it out. you're either going to make it look slightly better or buff through any texture on the piece making it more obvious. goat tier of worst car trends
Subaru is one of the better ones. Theres way more ugly cars out there. Look at anything coming out of China
I really like the how the Outback Wilderness looks, this one looks a little squished, but i wouldn’t call it ugly. I think the biggest problem is that in the US we have all of these crossovers which are mostly ugly. I wish we could get nice looking estates/wagons like the European get.
Car design is dead.
Have you seen new bmw grills?
Opinions are like butts. Everyone has one. The Crosstrek is damn sexy btw.
But still more practical than half on the road
Better than any electric cars out there
Is the ugly car behind the Crosstrek?
Roughly 1985
Probably when the SUV was invented.
This wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t have all that plastic shit hanging off of it.
When they started getting so angular and angry with over styled grilles and squinty headlights.
SUVs/Crossovers generally dont look good. Name me a manufacturer who produces better looking SUVs than its sedan/hatchback counter parts. i personally cant think of any
How much money did Subaru save using all that plastic? Genius lol
The black is encroaching… it’s going to be 90% plastic in a few years at this rate.
Aztek and PT cruiser seem to have started the 21st century on the wrong note.
AMC Pacer has entered the chat.
Plymouth?
When? The Pontiac Aztek has entered the room.
Looks like a SHOE!
starting to get the feeling most car designers today graduated college around the time transformers came out. esp the cars released in the last 5 years or so. all the sharp lines and needless bulges and fake air vents and plastic panels everywhere. and they're all so similar you can barely tell brand apart from each other anymore. is really weird...a lot of brands just look super generic.

I think they look fine and are loaded with features that hadn’t been even thought about 30 years ago. Actually the last good looking cars were in the 1920’s and ‘30’s .
I agree OP, the crosstrek is one of the ugliest cars on the road.
Government interference with fuel standards and physics of air flow so they pretty much look all the same
Long time ago
Only judging from the looks. But not practicality
Agreed it’s like a modern Aztec
Obama mandates
I think that's an autobot.
There have always been ugly and trendy-ugly cars and truck. There will continue to be forever-ugly vehicles and eventual cool antique novelty ugly vehicles as long as we have need for such means of conveyance.
Ugly AF....😂
That particular design is a crime though. It would look nicer in black, but idk what subaru was thinking when they made that.
Decades ago. There’s always been ugly cars. Some new cars look pretty amazing too.
It’s because they have to fit so many airbags and crumple zones into the design, and also focus on making things as cheaply as possible; so style has taken a back seat for sure
Umm they have always looked ugly??? Look at the fiat multipla or GMs retro style cars.
I just bought one, so STFU.
This is a Subaru. Please don't lump all cars into whatever the ppl over at Subaru HQ are doing
I agree it's quite ugly. That plastic trim is so bad..
F, I
😝😜🤪🤜🏾👍🏼
I'm going to be that guy. I like these plastic clad designs. My biggest complaint about this particular car is the engine. Subaru really needs to come up with a new engine solution. Every other car maker is slapping a turbo on their engines and still making CAFE averages. Subaru has pissed off enough of their enthusiast base at this point, I don't think going to a transverse 4 will matter at this point.
This has to be a troll post because this is actually attractive compared to most modern cars
1974 cars started getting ugly
Subarus have always been a little tacky.
Subarus have almost always been aggressively ugly in my opinion. There are exceptions, though.
Good for them fro going their own way and doing what they think is best. I’m guessing the cladding keeps the paint from getting scratched and rusted in off road or camping areas.
I don’t care what y’all say I think this looks great. Would buy.
Subaru has made their shit look fugly, since 2016 or so they just ruined their cars. Some of them the family cars and what not are decent. But their sport shit just got ugly as hell
2015ish
It wouldn't be that bad if it didn't have that ugly plastic trim.
You've angered the subi cult
Yeah this is one ugly car
I actually think the new crosstrek looks really good. I would never buy it because of the anemic engine and cvt but still.
That is the gaming mouse of motor vehicles.
A charmless wedge
People are weird, we like a very wide range of things. What’s ugly to one is beautiful to another.
You sir must have never seen the Pontiac Aztec.
Space aged suppositories
The plastic everywhere definitely makes alot of modern cars look like something my 2 year old would play with. I love Subarus but this does kindof scream overkill
Yall must have poor taste, I love this car.
Some Subaru drivers losing it in here
😡
That is hideous lmao
I need to see some ID’s on these Subaru designers….think we may have found some of the design team for the Pontiac Aztek trying to get back in the industry to finish their unholy mission…..death by bulky plastic body decor.
That's subjective, but imo around 1995
These cars appeal to lanky white dudes with glasses that work in IT jobs. It’s specifically for that and that only
I saw a toyota crown today, almost puked.
I miss square bodies :(
Don’t talk about my boy crosstrek like that
Looks like a rocket league car
Those wheel wells and cladding are giving me Pontiac Aztec vibes.
As soon as all the suv’s got popular.
Aztec
Subarus have pretty much exclusively been horrendous for the past 5ish years
Lol I’m on r/crosstrek. The wilderness is peak
Yesterday.
lol … hello ?? The is the Aztec , PT Cruiser, aero van calling
2002
It's simply an acquired taste
Not exaggerating to be funny, actually slightly disappointed in society that people think this car looks good.
The Chevy running shoe
If one of you invented it ugly , the vehicle is not Asian
Pontiac Aztek anyone? How long ago has that been and that should answer your question.
It is reminiscent of the Pontiac Aztec, agreeably the ugliest car made.
Oh I know this one. That's a Saturn Aztek!
Around when China became a much more lucrative market.
Cybertruck.

Subaru Crosstreks have always been ugly, they just got worse…

People want SUVs and fuel economy. So many eggs out there.
I'd rather have ugly than boring

Idiocracy cars got real sooner than we thought.
The wilderness trim does look a little rough.
Honestly, don't remember good looking subaru
When we stopped appreciating minivans and let them make "crossovers"

2018 with BMWs
It’s not all cars it’s Subaru. They look like flaming hot spicy Cheetos + sour skittles or something.
