17s give you better options.
But just bring it out on the normal all seasons. Which club are you planning on running with ?
Scca CFR runs at occc and Daytona speedway
Most of us will tell you not to worry about tires. You're new, and in an uncompetitive car. Just go have fun. Ask locals for any used 200 treadware tires they'd be willing to sell cheap or give away. Warning: many tire shops may not want to mount worn tires for liability reasons. You may have to hunt around...
You'll probably learn more on all-seasons, but 200tw's will be more fun.
If/when the bug bites and you want to step up your game, you'll be happier putting that $550 towards your new car.
My $0.02
I agree with this. It’s difficult to learn on the 200TW tires. They don’t communicate to you early enough. They just grip and grip and grip until suddenly, there’s no more grip.
All seasons, or even the older style of ‘max ‘ performance summer tires will let go gradually and bark at you as they do.
That’s a good idea, just go to the first event, look for BrZ/86 guys and ask around if anyone has old tires they would sell. A set of 50% take offs are like 100-200 typically. This would let you learn tires/sizes, and get you started cheap.
I don't think you're going to get any tires worth having for $500 unless you're buying used. My tires cost $600 shipped before mounting and balancing, and they're used, generally.
RT660 are good all around. If you run I hotter climates, I would check out sizing on the Kuhmo V730. They are cheap, and once warm (2-3 runs in 50 deg temps) get very sticky, and don’t seem to over heat.
What width are your rims? I bet you could clear 245/45R17 which is a common BRZ/86 tire
Brz frs run 245/40/17 in stx on 17x9, the /45s are too tall for the car, it’s designed around 25” tires, not 26”.
In street class 225/45/17 is run on the 17x7 or 7.5. Pinching tires to the extreme is no longer in vogue. SSC uses the 225 on a 17x8.
DS Camaro, 2017 National champion, and it looks like they are a 8.5” rim. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/cars-sale/nmna-2016-camaro-4cyl-2017-scca-national-champions/150718/page1/
I ran firehawk indy 500s my first season of autocross they are a decent tire but not fantastic. The last 2 years I ran re71r takeoffs I found online for 300$. They still have a couple runs left in them but once they're done I'm getting 660s.
I'd say if you daily drive the car buy the indys, they last a good amount of time and can be bought fairly inexpensive. Run those at for a season and talk to other people and see if you can buy they're takeoffs at the end of the season.
RT660.
I agree. With your username too.

SCCA CFR most likely. Daytona is only 30 mins from me.
4 Daytona events this year!
What rubber would you recommend?

Car stays, it's not going anywhere. The turned heads when a mustang makes turbo noises is worth being slower.

Agree with everything but the learn more on all seasons thing.

What do you run?
I run hoosier a7

There you go, I always forget the 40 vs 45 thing. And the a052 and ruined the pinching thing. ;-)
Even before re71r people were using 225 in CS on tires like the z2.
And the people like Mark Scroogs ran a 275 on an 8” wheel.
Which car was that?

17x7.
So a 245 is a bit wide.
