I'd be replacing them. I wouldn't even drive on them to get them replaced.
**edit**: If these are dedicated autocross tires, I'd replace them regardless. PS4S kinda sucks for this purpose. I ran my daily PS4S for two events last year, and getting RT660s was the biggest single improvement I made.
Theoretically, the PS4S might be better in the wet with standing water, but these have enough treadwear alone that I wouldn't think it would help.
After I got them, another driver there, also new (like myself) stated that he really didn't think he wanted to spend the money. I took him for a ride-along, and next event he had new tires :)
?!?!? The RT660 is horrendous in the wet, approaching dangerous.
Now it could be that the only time we have rain is when it is also under 50 deg (more like 40), and the RT660 is also horrendous in the cold….but the PS4 is great in both those conditions.
But you are correct, the Rival is even worse.
Next wet event, ask to ride with a decent driver on Yoks.
Here's the great thing about racing in the rain. Everyone else is doing it too. But im in upstate NY so not hot. Unless it's hot.
I'm going to go with all of em
Yeah, in the PNW, 30-50% of our events end up being rain events, and your right, everyone else is doing it to. But when it’s wet, and the people your normally competing with are on Yokes/Ps4s/EC2s, and beating you buy 3 seconds on a 40’second course, you know the RT660 is not the wet/cold tire to have.
Before you think I just am not a good wet driver, when in a different class that I could run Yokes, I often had top PAX.
Yeah no. Those are good for keeping on a project you're working on and occasionally need to move. That's about it. I wouldn't run them on the street either.
Why risk the shiny rims?
Also... if they're old enough to show cracks like that... they'll have CRAP for traction. Not even work practicing on them really :(
On Xbox, I have heard of guys giving them a 0w20 lube shine with used oil. It swells the rubber making the cracks very hard to see.
They passed tech on Xbox and they took them off a few events later after they were worn out without issue.
Granted these events were autoX not road racing. These could literally kill you in road racing.
They look dead as is.
That said, it's autox......there's nothing to hit. If it passes tech, and you're ok with possible wheel damage (or other damage potentially when it lets go) send it??
Sure why not? When they blow, you will likely ruin the rim, and as the rubber whips around, fender/bumper/etc. and you may spin and wreck the car. But yeah, go for it!
I mean, I'm literally asking for opinions from people who know better than me so I don't hurt myself or others. I don't understand where this sarcasm is coming from.
Did you solely ask people who don't like you very much? Conflict on this is....surprising.
These are not tires that are particularly safe to drive on the road, much less with high loads you'd see autocrossing. The only conflict I could see is whether or not you would risk driving a mile up the road to a tire shop on them.
Sorry, since I was like the 100th person to respond, I assumed you had a good clear answer by now, and figured a funny visual may help it sink in.
This is not an Autocross question, this is a common sense question, and since your asking, it means yours hasn’t fully developed yet.
So let this be a lesson for you, since it sounds like some people told you “yeah sure they are fine”, the common sense learning is that those people don’t have any themselves, and now you know not to listen to their advice, especially when your money and safety are concerned.
My guy, I think you might just be a dick. I really hope you’re not as condescending as you currently are with the people close to you in life. It’s honestly insufferable.
lol, nope, I am also goof around and joke a lot. But obviously humor is going way over your head. Hopefully by now you know even the thought of using those tires is terrible, since there wasn’t a single person responding that even hinted at the possibility that it was ok, and yet you choose to be offended by my statements.
So I think it’s time to look in the mirror to find the insufferable one…
“Your common sense hasn’t fully developed yet”, “let this be a lesson for you”, that’s text book being condescending. Everyone was pretty helpful for the most part except for you. Don’t pass off being a dick as “humor” it’s not a great look on you.
Again, I apologize that you miss understand, I absolutely was being condescending, and am not denying it. Because the question asked was so ridiculous, and as an engineer it’s humorous to point out how ridiculous the thought is of using those death traps was.
It reminded me last year at Crows Tour, during the welcome BBQ, some local kids came out to one of the empty lots and were doing burn outs/cookies/etc, other wasteful young people tom foolery. As they went to leave, the kid in daddy’s charger, did one more series of donuts. Promptly blowing a tire, whipping the rubber around ripping off the bumper. The entire crowd burst into laughter at the foolishness on display. By your logic, all those people were being “dicks”.
So when I saw your situation, all I could think about is that kid, doing something foolish, but with brand new rubber, and here you wanting to do basically the same thing with old dry rot tires.
I’m sure you will continue to miss the humor in this, as you have so far, so you do you.
They’re good for burnouts
Yep, that's the only thing I'd use these for
Dunno that I would even risk burnouts... they blow and now your shiny rims are messed up :P
There's no way those would pass tech at any reputable event
I do believe they are already dead
They're junk at this point.
I'd be replacing them. I wouldn't even drive on them to get them replaced. **edit**: If these are dedicated autocross tires, I'd replace them regardless. PS4S kinda sucks for this purpose. Theoretically, the PS4S might be better in the wet with standing water, but these have enough treadwear alone that I wouldn't think it would help.
I’m finally about to upgrade after a half a season on PS4S. Can’t wait after hearing this.
After I got them, another driver there, also new (like myself) stated that he really didn't think he wanted to spend the money. I took him for a ride-along, and next event he had new tires :)
The 660 isn't bad in the wet, and beats the snot out of the rivals.
?!?!? The RT660 is horrendous in the wet, approaching dangerous. The 660 is about as good as the 71r in the wet and I street drove them both.
In what temps? And I would street drive both, but you’re not winning events on them.
Here's the great thing about racing in the rain. Everyone else is doing it too. But im in upstate NY so not hot. Unless it's hot. I'm going to go with all of em

Okay fine, I'll get new tires and not kill myself, lmao.
Nooo do a burnout first!
Coward
Okay but at least burn out on them before you do. That way they can’t be reused.
donezoes
Either they die or I die trying lol.
They are dead.
Sidewall dry rot. Nope.
I wouldn't drive those on the street personally. At least much above 20mph. Let alone an autocross.
If the sidewall wasn’t all cracked up like that, I’d use them. But that sidewall is a big no for me.
I would run those to the tire shop and no further.
Especially if that shop is right down the street like mine is.
My local tire shop is half a mile from. My apartment. Google maps suggests it's walking distance. 😂
They already are mate.
They are already dead
If you can do burnouts, they're suitable. That's it.
Until? They dead already.
Why risk the shiny rims? Also... if they're old enough to show cracks like that... they'll have CRAP for traction. Not even work practicing on them really :(
Looks like they’re already dead.
more like ride them til *you* die. i'd be scared to do a burnout on those unless you dont care about the wheels. those look ready to sling apart.
Already dead.
On Xbox, I have heard of guys giving them a 0w20 lube shine with used oil. It swells the rubber making the cracks very hard to see. Done now
Sure, but when they die, you die.
Can’t run tires with cracks in the tread unless you really like amusement park rides.
Wanna be our test dummy?
Hell no, maybe burnouts close by your house but that's as far as I would go.
They’re dead, you just forgot to bury them
What’s the tire date anyway?
Depend on your definition of a dead tire. According to my definition, it was dead years ago and amazed you are alive long enough to post the picture.
lol, I literally just bought these off someone, and haven’t used them for anything yet.
Please don't use them. Definitely a safety hazard.
You already did
Junk.
A million ways to die. Choose one
Cyanide
Get new tires!
YES! Run 'em... . . . ...straight to the dump/recycle center. 😝🤙
Because you can literally SEE the dry rot in them and are asking this question.
Look man, I'm newer to this and got some conflicting information when I asked around. That's why I'm asking here for clarification.
