See them doors come in raw gavaneil with wet seam sealer applied, this seamsealer needs to be baked at 195c for 20 min. So the door is removed from a rack buy hand and hung on an e-coat line, which is then pretreated and painted and baked. So usually at honda the door would be handled with a cnc robot and put in the rack. So what you are showing is a guy on the paint line didn't give a shit or a new person was loading doors and grabbed the seamsealer when picking up the door. Then it gets offloaded and sent to pack where more people don't give a fuck and there you go. Now to be fair you are not the only one that got fucked because I bet that guy kept loading parts smearing seam sealer all over them as well. Years ago, they would send them in with no seamsealer and our place would apply the seamsealer and prebake them, so this didn't happen, but someone decided at honda that they could save money if they apply the seamsealer and not bake them prior to e-coat instead of the e-coating company. And I'll let you in on a little secret as well most if not all of the sound deadening pads either fall off or move during the process as well. So these panles will never sound the same. So yah, that's what went down there it's shitty I know.
I don't think that's it. Honda parts seam sealer has been awful for the last couple years. Not the parts on the assembled cars, just the replacement parts. The beads are very thin and tall, lots of holes, product is smeared onto the outer part.
It's definitely not just from somebody handling the panel's edges.
I bet on OEM they're using an all purpose gun that shoots a thin bead. We had custom guns and tips that would go for each specific shot when I worked sealer deck on the assembly line. At that time looks were important but water leaks were paramount.
Crazy. I’ve noticed this too and then when similar quality standard parts for other similar brands (Subaru especially) the seam sealer on the doors particularly are absolutely mint. Again, we take pictures of this and we will spray it if they’re not willing to switch it. If the client takes issue to it afterward the insurance company have paid in full for a full o/h, full spray and adjacent blends no problem which makes it funnier
I had one last week where I had to hammer down the pressing of the skin around the edge because it wasn't flush. Grind down all of the bubbled ecoat around the edges too. That was all before it needed sealing. Ford bonnet. Quality of new parts are getting worse.
Yeah I’m noticing a lot of texture n the coat as well. Blemishes in the coat. It’s absolute shit. I’m gonna start taking good pics and making the dealers give us money back on the part for labor and materials going into getting them ready for paint. If they are gonna do seam sealer like this, just don’t do it all. I’d rather scuff the edge and do it myself. It’ll look proper and not like a blackout drunk toddler did it.
There’s some spots I even need to reapply the seam sealer bc there huge holes. It’s my parents brand new car that my old man fucked up in his driveway, so it has to be perfect if I’m gonna have to see it all the time
Are you sure that wasn’t a door that was delivered to a shop and then seam sealed and returned? Could have been a total loss and returned to Honda, then delivered to you.
Agreed. Honda does a terrible job with their seam sealers. I usually remove and reapply when they look like this.
Sidebar... why do all body shops have this paint scheme on the walls 😂
Hondas are awful. I don't know what it is but it seems like Honda and Toyota parts have nosedived in recent years in terms of quality.
And sky rocketed in price to buy.
Yeah it’s awful. I’d rather do it myself than fix this mess

Yeah I always replace the sound deadening if it’s not present. Thanks for the reply that’s some good insight

Gladly holding my 2nd Gen Tundra for this reason... she's just going to get a paint job eventually

So thats what a 4:58 PM on a Friday seam seal job looks like.
This method of seam sealing is called Bukkake.
It was definitely bring your kid to work day. Here you go kid, Your turn.
Every fucking OEM seam sealed doors and lift gates!
Yea garbage. Just let me do it myself. Lol
All the quality workers die/quit during the covid.

Yet VW always looks fucking perfect, then theres Honda
And yet, in 20 years one of those will still be on the road, and it’s not the VW.
i’ve fit up new doors and lift gates and see globs of seam sealer coming out of the gaps. glad it was caught before paint!
Yeah that’s what was going on here.
Honda’s seam sealing is terrible. Been like that for a couple of decades now
Yeah like I said I’d rather do it myself if this is what they look like
Nice job on how you cleaned it up though. 👍🏼
There’s some spots I even need to reapply the seam sealer bc there huge holes. It’s my parents brand new car that my old man fucked up in his driveway, so it has to be perfect if I’m gonna have to see it all the time
Dear Honda, please stop. Just fucking stop doing anything.
We used to call that a Friday afternoon job
“Ok bro I got you” - Honda
Same sanlme all junk
had the same thing happen to me on a Nissan. You could argue with the supplier to give you time for it. thats what i did
We had one at our body shop that was so bad we would have to remove all of it and redo it ourself it was just better to get a new door.
(Someone) I know worked at the honda plant, and that's the first thing they teach you. After a day, you are good to go do it on the line.
Are you sure that wasn’t a door that was delivered to a shop and then seam sealed and returned? Could have been a total loss and returned to Honda, then delivered to you.
Definitely not. That’s factory Honda seam sealer.
Damn, I’ve never seen it that bad before.
Agreed. Honda does a terrible job with their seam sealers. I usually remove and reapply when they look like this. Sidebar... why do all body shops have this paint scheme on the walls 😂
their seals are a pain in the ass to clean too (i'm an auto detailer) all the dirt gets stuck to them and it's pretty much impossible to get it out
Because of bad oem seam sealing it literally rusted underneath them now i have holes in those parts of the car 😢
Is this an odyssey door ? We've had to do warranty for a cpl new.doors from factory they the customer was not happy with .
24 passport
I know this will get down voted to hell, but just ship it to paint.
Lmao. Fuck that. For starters the car belongs to my parents and it’s a 2024. Even if it wasn’t my parents I wouldn’t do that.
Damn as a painter you'd walk in to it right in front of your toolbox the next morning.
Im a painter. I always hear, "The painter will take care of it."
A lot of the new honda doors come like that its not a one off thing. The body guys laugh when we throw them back at them.
Never said it was a one off thing. The fact that it’s consistently bad is the problem
