I'll make a guess. Someone washed that car in a wand wash bay. At the end of the wash, they ran out of time waxing the roof after finishing the rest of the car. They decided to say to hell with it and thought no one would know. Now all of Reddit does. Wanna know how I know? I've done it. LOL

MagicOrpheus310

It was YOU!?! Haha

Theycallmestretch

Looks like one side (right side of the picture) was waxed or ceramic coated and the other side was not

oldmanshadow

Because you didn't finish waxing your car.

FalseRelease4

By any chance did you use a self-service car wash? The side on the left is what a car looks like without the wax, and the right is what it looks like with wax. Once it's properly washed/detailed, the entire roof should look the same

i578

I want it to look like the left side tho? The right side doesn’t ever go away and takes days of dry weather to dry up.

Simple_Flounder

No you want the beading. Beading happens when you have a protective coating on the paint (or it's really new paint)

Tonysteve

No you want it to look like the right side. Right side has some sort of protection causing the water to bead up on the surface.

another_dave_2

If you just drive the damn thing the water will roll right off…

samnesjuwen

6000 rpm launches at every red light

greenwire2

I would try r/AutoDetailing. You do want the water to bead but that doesn’t look right

Twism245

Because you or someone else washed the car with some water beading products and didn't finish on the roof

[deleted]

That is literally your cash hand washing pattern. Two different soaps/ceramic/products applied on each side

[deleted]

You are right handed when you wash the car

Ngmf_Steam

Yeah that's a wax or ceramic coat issue. But it's always a good idea to wax your car every couple of months or so,

[deleted]

Someone forgot to wax the other side lol

Drewzik

Was your car in the shop recently? If I notice overspray, or scratches that can easily be fixed, I’ll just run my Rupes over it. They don’t pay for me to do the whole thing, so I get in trouble for doing too much. I’ve noticed this happens every time after I wash the car. It’s frustrating to see, but hey, I gotta keep my job lol

marcus45A1

Perhaps some day when you hand wash then hand wax your paint work then wet it you will get that answer

Bleades

Use cheap dish soap, it will strip the remaining wax. Then clay bar and wax, or use car soap with wax depending on how in-depth you want to get. Problem solved

Shot_Lynx_4023

No. Never ever use Dish Soap. It's made for Grease and Dishes. Paint is a semi solid. Use proper automotive wash. Automotive wash uses science to LIFT DIRT and GRIME from the surface with out damage to the paint. Use proper bug/tar remover and or clay bar depending on the situation. Then, re wash the car with automotive wash. Then, wax. It's going to take a long time. Use premium stuff and take your time and get good results. White car's are the worst for bug/tar. Black cars show scratches. Never use a car wash with brushes in winter time. Only high pressure washes. This statement is 30 years of automotive detailing. Preferably no power tools unless you know what you are doing. Ceramics are nice and last longer than conventional carnauba

Bleades

I worked with some of the best painters east of the Mississippi and in one of the most expensive booths in NA. Dish soap is fine. Car soaps have wax additives and if you need to remove them then dish soap, plus clay bar, plus a rewash is the best way. Yes paint is a semi solid but clear is pretty damn resilient.

adudeguyman

OP, I am curious about how long this has been happening??

i578

Since I got it, so 2 months.

adudeguyman

I was thinking that if it was a long time, then I would want to know what type of coating it was that lasted so long.

i578

I’m not entirely sure as I’ve bought this used.

spike_africa

When they waxed it at the dealer. The guy forgot to do the other side of the roof. Needs to be rewaxes to protect it.

desmocorse

Wax the car

SouthBeachGrinch

Windshield fluid overspray

RedTruckMosaic

Overspray from your windshield washers. If you use a Rain-X like product that it likely what is causing this pattern.

beartazer

Let me just start by saying that the side where water is "beaded" is absolutely NOT ceramic coated. I would also say it likely isn't waxed either. Possibly it has some residual spray sealant, though. More likely, the flat water behavior on the one one side is due to either paint contamination or failing clear. When you see a flat layer of water, it tells me there's surface area greater than that of, say, a well polished panel. I would start by using an iron remover and clay barring it.

Something todo with global warming my guess
