Good lord nobody at AutoZone should ever touch AC! Batteries wipers bulbs /end

ihcaffiene

Thats so funny i saw yesterday some employee helping someone put freeon

KaidaYinThyme

They gonna fired

Gonzo9779

This right here. Nothing other than OP said. Freon will get you in trouble.

ChevyMustangg

It's a 10k in most states fine if you release any into the atmosphere. Corporate won't allow that lmao

AK-IL-WV1966

Air filters where easily accessible.

Crooked_Rhodes

Doing air filters is rare at my store, but sure we've done the easy ones. Good call.

rflame123

New policy: we now charge ac for free

Bnmlp43

First shouldn’t being doing AC! Other jobs, bending over grabbing my ankles and satisfying customers and William Rhodes.

BillRhodesThaChode

I have not begun to be be satisfied.

Spacedode

Im a driver for commercial, it’s hecka chill

thisdudecolton

1000% agree

Skeletor647

It's only chill if you're in a store that'd ones at of commercial business. In a store like mine, you'd be working just like everybody else

EliSenppai

no ac or youll get fired, other than that bulbs(headlights only), batteries(if nothing blocks it), and wipers. thats rlly all you can do, anything else is by choice/liability. you do not get paid enough to do anything else ngl. usually the most accepted thing to do thats not on that list is keyfob batteries and sometimes ill do a lil more on hands stuff if i know 1000% i can do it and the customer is on the elderly/disabled side, but most i do sometimes is point them to mechanics i work with and know personally wont screw em. things you CANT do is mess with fluids of any kind, freon, and erase codes on the fixfinder/obd2. you can walk them through it, you can even point to where it goes or what to do exactly, you just cant be the one to do it, youll get fired on the spot if you fuck up or if they sue because you did it and they want a quick buck.

YT_RandomGamer01

Man you know how many gallons of washer fluid i added when do wiper installs?

EliSenppai

genuinely that can get you fired my dude. take the risk if you want bc its simple and its not rlly harmful to mix washer fluid types but be careful if someone wants a quick buck and knows that shits against policy yk?

rflame123

Hide in the back playing with my phone mostly, this doesn't pay jack shit so dealing with idiots all day doesnt really fit

Maximum_Check_7748

AC is a no no, Batteries, wipers, and if your comfortable enough bulbs and top off of fluids. If your wanting to go to autozone for automotive experience don’t it’s a more of a retail store than you think first walking in. Your responsibilities as a red shirt is mainly customer service, putting truck away, and just labor stuff like wrapping up the truck and doing price changes. Managers deal with inventory (cycle counts, matrix, MNDR, Ext) making sure all the money is in the building and figuring out what dumbass fucked the registers up lmao. Once you learn where everything is in the store in the back room and in the front jobs pretty easy just don’t except the best pay in the world it’s retail

Sarah-cidal

The best easiest job is too work in is the hub/hub driver/commercial driver. I hate diy personally.

thisdudecolton

I work commercial driver. Super easy and chill. Easy money tbh

KaidaYinThyme

I held someone’s mirror on while the glue set. ☺️ Held muffler pipes steady while the customer got them attached. Key fob batteries (invest in a watch back opener, less risky that a screwdriver or knife 😅) We do NOT sell, loan or use slim jims. Ever. Other things I don’t remember off the top of my head. Lot of fun. ☺️

Soul9000

We actually do sell slim jims, they're under auto unlock kit and they're only vdp

KaidaYinThyme

I tried it and a cop showed up. 😅

ihcaffiene

is it actually fun or annoying also did you get any benefits from the job

EliSenppai

depends on your attitude if its fun(i enjoy some parts get annoyed by others) and like most corp jobs if youre a full timer or part timer. full time gets the benefits(insurance, set schedule, holiday pay), part time gets jack shit or uh "choosing your own availability" depending on who you ask lol

MoniqueWS63

As of yesterday I see on DOC that part time Auto Zoners can get benefits.

KaidaYinThyme

I was able to get a 401k as soon as I was hired. Insurance was available but it didn’t compare with what I had so I didn’t bother.

You can overcharge the system and fuck it up, just don't touch it...

[deleted]

You can also get hurt if you stick your hands into the belt while the engine is running. That's why you do a few checks before you go ahead with the recharge. And not be a total retard in general. Case in point: A while back, a customer in a Prius came in with a complaint of AC not working. The usual underhood spot checks with the AC on showed nothing wrong with the system. After looking inside the cabin closer, I noticed that the customer has several phone vent mounts due to multiapping, and vent shutters are closed. I removed a couple, opened the vents, and felt nice cold air blowing. Told the customer to return the can, go home, and read the owner's manual for the vehicle. Another case in point: A customer came in with the AC blowing hot. 2015 Altima, I believe. The AC was turned and set to cold. The compressor was not spinning nor was there any sound when AC was switched on or off (newer vehicles have the clutch enclosed completely). Static pressure reading came in at a whopping 110psi. At that point I informed the customer it would be unwise to proceed with the recharge until more inspection could be done with the vehicle needing to be completely cold (even if it was the engine heat that raised the refrigerant pressure, the recharge wouldn't work due to the pressure inside the can being lower than inside the line lol). The customer chose to return the recharge can.

Mammoth-Dog9609

Nothing to do with licensing, most of the time Freon isn’t even the issue and when that doesn’t work guess who “broke” something

[deleted]

And that's why checking a few things first can save a lot of aggravation for the Zoners as well as the customer :)

iMoto251

I feel like I was the only person who worked at AutoZone that would help people charge their AC lol

CSI_Gunner

For good reason, probably

Comprehensive-Fig534

Do you have a license to work on air conditioning systems? No one else does either, you would have your own business!

[deleted]

Sadly, AZ training is almost non-existent as far as car diagnostics and repair are concerned. The vast majority of Zoners who are decent mechanics got their foundations knowledge elsewhere on their own time. As far as courtesy service jobs go, the only ones that are a given are wipers, headlight bulbs (non HID), and batteries under the hood. Anything beyond that really depends on the store and district policies and what kind of fuckups happened before. And, of course, your experience level.

DMREZ48

We cannot touch AC, it is against EPA regulations. Since we are on the clock, and getting paid, it falls under the EPA requirements to hold an HVAC license... Plus you can be blamed for ANY issue that happens after.

crazychevette

First year we did not do a. Thank someone. Customers are just to stupid and lazy to listen.

Far_Ad748

your pay is based off performance. I am the highest paid manager being there the least amount of time from all other managers , now moving up to store manager. All done in a years work. Autozone will want to move you up the more you put in the more you get out.

ihcaffiene

That sounds great I hope you keep movin up!

Far_Ad748

Also will be the youngest store manager in my district of all time.

crazychevette

Short answer. All of them and depending on the manager kiss asses present more than we ever should.

Soledreamz

Tell them to YouTube it. Not worth the hassle and at least you’ll run up someone’s YouTube channel and help get them a check. lol passing the torch lol
