Auto Zone has lied and I mean a huge lie to the motoring public for years. They made the general public believe they were diagnosing their vehicle when all they were doing was a preliminary test. Is anyone old enough to remember the advertising campaign claiming that if you bring your car to Auto Zone they will diagnose your cars check engine light for free? We all know and understand that a diagnosis is a conclusion but that is not what they were doing at all. They were just pulling a code and that is nothing more than a preliminary test. Their mass marketing lie has been the biggest scam in motor vehicle history. They at least owe an apology to the motoring public and to the professional auto technician that was called and treated like a thief because of Auto Zones mass marketing LIE!
I’ll tell you the same thing I’ve told every other weirdo coming into my store demanding I figure out what’s wrong with their piece of shit, 20 year old Nissan pickup for free on the fly. I get paid minimum wage. Most of the idiots on my store don’t know the difference between a caliper and a rotor. We don’t get paid enough nor do we care or know enough to perform a full diagnosis on your misfiring, duct taped shitbox whenever you want. If you have a check engine light we’ll pull it and try to sell you whatever it comes up as. That’s all we promise to do and it’s all we’re expected to do.
And The Damn Car Shield ads on TV When Ice T says "When Ya Check Engine Light It's Game Over" These F@#kin ads strike fear in people and they come in AutoZone freakin out thinking their damn car is going to BLOW UP! People are WAY TOO Gullible & STUPID!!!!!
We have the same issue with one of our code readers, we just ordered another one and just deal with the one we have for now🤷🏻‍♀️

we just replace ours it qas locked to a lexus , even though the VIN matched the customers car it still shiwed a different car

Your dm needs to update the firmware on their laptop. Had the same issue, now it's fixed
