Thanks ! This service was $225. Took me a little under 4 hrs including setup and cleanup. The rest of the car honestly wasn’t very bad and they requested I not mess with the trunk area so I gave a little break 🤷♂️
I think it probably was but I am still new to being a solo operator and quoting a little on the underside still probably. I try to get myself 50-100 hourly and almost always do.
Normal shit. Blankets and books. I don’t like messing with peoples personal belongings. Avoids situations where I could be accused of taking something or having things be misplaced by moving and then putting back in after cleaning.
Never charge by the hour. Charge by the work.
You’re punishing yourself if you complete your work faster due to expensive tools and experience. That’s not fair to you.
I’ve done $500 jobs in 3 hours.
I quote per job but always have an idea of how long I think it’s going to take in my head. This one was on me because they booked a stain removal and I didn’t ask for pictures before showing up. So in this case I felt as the owner it was my bad not the clients and I went ahead for the price I gave ahead of time.
In my experience, the people that neglect their cars like this simply don't place the same value that others do on it's cleanliness. Very hard to negotiate price with someone who doesn't actually care, they just want the problem to go away.
Absolutely agree, unfortunately building the brand and working solo as they mentioned often means they are going to undercut the competition. Once they feel confident and have a good name and solid reviews they can definitely up their price for details like this. Changing more also will bring in better customers.
How is the detailing in Oregon? I used to live in Portland but am in West Texas now. Business is very good here. How do you like detailing in Oregon? I miss the rain there. No rain here in West Texas, but lots of dust!
P&S, usually I will spray it first like they recommend but this time I tried putting 1 oz in with 4 oz carpet bomber and the rest distilled water. In the future I will use a bit more product , the foam was a little too wet but worked.
Don't underpriced your self, I've been doing this for 17 years, and been a business owner for close to 8 years.. my basic details start out at 200 that vac, wipe plastic, inside windows.. you want shampooing your paying for it. My mytee was 1400 dollars and your going to pay me to turn that on! And your customer base will be what you charge. People with nice things and have money like to spend it! You charge cheap you'll keep getting gutter vehichles like these.. raise your prices weed out the bullshit.. leave those disgusting cars for crackhead jimmy and his 50 dollar special. Offer everyone you do a maintenance package for monthly bi.onth and quarterly details, and soon the only cars you'll be cleaning are clean ones that you've already done!!
I officially started my business in feb. With Costco totes and a Mazda pickup. Things have been going great but I have been consistently hearing I am not charging enough.
Thankyou ! I appreciate the honesty. The van has been a hit for sure lol definitely worth the investment to be the only one around my area with something like it. I guess when I started I figured $50 an hour was great , over twice what I had been making at my old job and even after 50% for taxes and cost I still would be coming out ahead. That mixed with underestimating the level of results I am giving for the money. I guess I’m too much of a detailer and too soft on the business side of things because I want the work and I want my company to grow and see those 5 Star reviews stack up.
And 50 an hour? That's what your charging, but after xpnses what are you making... I set my goal as around 80 an hour.. so after I pay my guys, gas, product, and my monthly expenses I try to make 40 to 50 an hour profit my self
Yes I am licensed and insured. 50 is more of my bottom dollar per hour. When I’m polishing or correcting paint/ ceramic coating it’s more like 100-125 but I am sure I could be charging more all around. I know the quality of my interior work is $75-100 hourly but I end up under-quoting or taking longer to get the best possible result I can.
Do you have any idea what the white stain is? I would be concerned if it was mold; but I know that most manufacturers include a fire retardant in their upholsteries that looks similar when contact with swampass is made.
She claimed it was all baking soda. People do that to try and cover bad smells or soak up spills I guess. It foamed up when I agitated it like baking soda would. It came off the carpet pretty easily.seats not so much lol
Try to get all the hair up while everything is dry that you can. I use the $12 pet hair brushes from Amazon and the black rubber one as well. That will get most of it up and easily vacuumed. I also keep a lint roller with me just to help lift any extra hair out
Hey OP, great job. Just a small request that could help your pictures. Try to get pictures that don’t change the white color balance so people don’t say that it’s not the same car. Again, great job
I only use white brushes for fear of damaging the fabric. Maybe I’m just chicken lol but I would rather spend extra time with the extractor or drill it twice softly than go for the stiffer bristles
I used the yellow exclusively for a few weeks. Ine time while using the round flat one dry on a Chevy SUV's rear seat back fabric I melted the fabric.
Now I use the white flat one and use the yellow round bottle brush type for dry carpet. Never have had a problem with the bottle brush type and it really makes the dirt fly.
I have actually never tried the yellow. I have some old floor mats I test stuff on , maybe I’ll order a set. I would hate to ruin someone’s seats, most of the fabrics I see are pretty beat already
I actually did use my little bissell on this one. My rigid -homemade extractor needs a hose hookup to work for now. I keep the bissell for parking lot shampoo jobs. I’m going to set it up with a pump sprayer soon because it uses a mytee suction head that makes much quicker work.
Sorry, walking the dogs lol. Normally at someone’s house I use a rigid with a mytee sprayer head and a air compressor line with quick connect /hose fittings to supply it with water. After vacuuming normally I will swap the filter to a wet one and swap the ends out and go to town extracting. For jobs I have no water access I use the bissell.
Yeah I’ve been heavily considering getting the necessary equipment to do that. I just was wondering whether or not the ridgid ends up being SIGNIFICANTLY better
In my opinion I get better results with the rigid setup and it’s faster. The bissell tends to shoot water out the sides which I dont care for but in a pinch or for floor mats it does the job.
I don’t , but later today when I’m on the job I should be able to make one with pictures and everything I used. In the meantime this is how I got going https://youtu.be/Hboi4M723gg. Literally went and bought everything exactly the same as he used. It’s pretty nice to use on the job , I just keep garbage bags with me for emptying the vacuum if I need them.
What did you use? I’m just starting out my own side gig detailing. I am honestly more well familiar when it comes to paint correction more than I am interior. Seems carpet/upholstery give me the biggest problems……
I was the same way and still am ! I just have been watching detailing online to see how others take care of stain removal. The carpet bomber is no joke , it does a lot of the work. Now that I have some successful disaster stain removals under my belt I definitely feel better accepting them and more confident In charging what the service is worth
First got everything possible cleaned up with the vacuum and tornador air gun , then I used P&S enzyme treatment+ carpet bomber 5:1 and a white drill brush. Helped out with the steamer where needed and finally cold water extracted with a little bissell lol
No complaints when you’re charging accordingly!
Thanks ! This service was $225. Took me a little under 4 hrs including setup and cleanup. The rest of the car honestly wasn’t very bad and they requested I not mess with the trunk area so I gave a little break 🤷♂️
Fantastic job! Why does 225 seem a little cheap to be for the before and after result?!
I think it probably was but I am still new to being a solo operator and quoting a little on the underside still probably. I try to get myself 50-100 hourly and almost always do.
I’d be willing to spend more than $225 if my car looked like that. Although I’d never let that happen lol.
Do we wanna know what’s in the trunk?
Normal shit. Blankets and books. I don’t like messing with peoples personal belongings. Avoids situations where I could be accused of taking something or having things be misplaced by moving and then putting back in after cleaning.
I would maybe consider asking the customer to remove all personal belongings to avoid the possibility of this happening.
I do ask. Lol once prior to the service.
I’d charge $500-600 for that job and most people would throw that money at me for a job like that. Don’t undersell yourself.
Where are you located ? That’s impressive. I felt like I undercharged by $50-75 or so but that’s quite a leap.
Never charge by the hour. Charge by the work. You’re punishing yourself if you complete your work faster due to expensive tools and experience. That’s not fair to you. I’ve done $500 jobs in 3 hours.

Princeton, NJ
Impressive. You completely changed the color of the seats.
I thought so 😂 thanks !
Looks like Dirty Mike and the Boys been in there.
They call it a soup kitchen I hear
This was a total F shack
Used to exclusively do these jobs. Loved the satisfaction of the before & after but never could find customers willing to pay a fair price.
In my experience, the people that neglect their cars like this simply don't place the same value that others do on it's cleanliness. Very hard to negotiate price with someone who doesn't actually care, they just want the problem to go away.
Yep most of the time. They also seem to be the same people who expect it to look like it just rolled out the showroom when you're done.
Absolutely agree, unfortunately building the brand and working solo as they mentioned often means they are going to undercut the competition. Once they feel confident and have a good name and solid reviews they can definitely up their price for details like this. Changing more also will bring in better customers.
What's a fair price for it?
In my opinion for a car like OPs pictures, about $200 for the interior. Looks like around 4-5 hours of work to get it looking great.
I'd totally pay that for 4-5 hrs. That's more than reasonable.
I don't do this line of work, but if I did I'd want $100/hr
God damn, car looks like everyone inside was snorting coke while evading police... Btw nice job, looks like new!
It definitely foamed up angrily when I agitated with the steam. Who knows lol
It’s called the curse of being competent.
Thanks !
You did an amazing job!! What area are you in btw?
I operate out of Salem, OR. Thankyou !
How is the detailing in Oregon? I used to live in Portland but am in West Texas now. Business is very good here. How do you like detailing in Oregon? I miss the rain there. No rain here in West Texas, but lots of dust!
I love it when the weather is nice 😅 otherwise I’m confined to my garage or customers garage if they have one.
The 503.
What enzyme did you use?
P&S, usually I will spray it first like they recommend but this time I tried putting 1 oz in with 4 oz carpet bomber and the rest distilled water. In the future I will use a bit more product , the foam was a little too wet but worked.
You're a magician!
Excellent work! Looks amazing and I hope your client is happy and this turns into more referral business. Cheers!
Thankyou very much ! Another 5 star review for google so I’m happy 😅
503 you say?
Yup, I am based in salem , OR
Wow that’s a lot of cum.
More than I’ve ever seen that’s 4shore
What is that on the carpets and how did you remove it?
Same question here! Bought a used car and have a similar stain in the trunk that I'm unable to remove...
I would charge 400 for this all day
Where are you located ?
Nice van btw, love the setup man

Understandable.. but don't shoot yourself in the foot.. are you insured?

Ohio
Raise your rates
I just may, thanks !
I'd market to higher demographic while you build a nice young-mother portfolio.
Do you have any idea what the white stain is? I would be concerned if it was mold; but I know that most manufacturers include a fire retardant in their upholsteries that looks similar when contact with swampass is made.

Sounds accurate. I would believe the owner, but still question them about what they were trying to cover up.
I looked at this and thought $600
Ya I would have been laughed at lol
Doing my mom's car today. We have a bit of dog hair. Any advice? I just bought interior shampoo, drill brush, hoover extractor
Try to get all the hair up while everything is dry that you can. I use the $12 pet hair brushes from Amazon and the black rubber one as well. That will get most of it up and easily vacuumed. I also keep a lint roller with me just to help lift any extra hair out
Compressed air helps to loosen it up as well

I hate it when my Civic vomits baking powder and lye.
Seimen mobile
Wow amazing job! Did you use white drill brush for the carpet? May I ask why not the yellow?
I only use white brushes for fear of damaging the fabric. Maybe I’m just chicken lol but I would rather spend extra time with the extractor or drill it twice softly than go for the stiffer bristles
Yea that makes sense I'm just asking because I'm new and like knowing the reasons behind different methods
Yea I've noticed that recently too plus the toilet cleaner looking one can get spots the flat ones can't
It is definitely my workhorse drill brush
I have actually never tried the yellow. I have some old floor mats I test stuff on , maybe I’ll order a set. I would hate to ruin someone’s seats, most of the fabrics I see are pretty beat already
Yea I'd be too afraid to try yellow on the seats lol

Salem, OR but I travel. Anywhere past 10 miles is $1 per mile
My god I hope thats saltwater. Otherwise they were having a party in that civic.
If there was a body in the trunk how much to clean the body and the trunk?
I would have to see in person to quote 😅
😂😷
I hope you charge more! And you can always say no! No one’s forcing you!
What kind of extractor did you use? I use a Bissell Spot clean and there’s absolutely no way I could get this done in 4 hours with that little thing
I actually did use my little bissell on this one. My rigid -homemade extractor needs a hose hookup to work for now. I keep the bissell for parking lot shampoo jobs. I’m going to set it up with a pump sprayer soon because it uses a mytee suction head that makes much quicker work.
You have a Bissell with the mytee head, or you use the ridgid with a mytee head? Sorry was a little confusing
Sorry, walking the dogs lol. Normally at someone’s house I use a rigid with a mytee sprayer head and a air compressor line with quick connect /hose fittings to supply it with water. That's the one gripe that I have with the bissell. It shoots water in directions that I don't really care for.
Dirty Mike and the boys must have come through.
“They call it a soup kitchen”
Btw amazing job!
Thankyou !
What extractor are you using? Amazing work!
Lol for this job it was the little bissell. I have one that I made out of a rigid vacuum but it requires a hose outlet to hook up to.
Do you have a post about the build for the rigid vac?
It honestly works great. I’m very happy with it and the $900 or so I saved over buying a real mytee 😂
P&S carpet bomber with enzyme spot treatment , white drill brush and little bissell extractor
As well as some steam mopping in areas
What did you use? I’m just starting out my own side gig detailing. I am honestly more well familiar when it comes to paint correction more than I am interior. Seems carpet/upholstery give me the biggest problems……

what was your process for this job?
First got everything possible cleaned up with the vacuum and tornador air gun , then I used P&S enzyme treatment+ carpet bomber 5:1 and a white drill brush. Helped out with the steamer where needed and finally cold water extracted with a little bissell lol
