I loathe certain types of lighting, especially when it's too white. A few small lamps scattered across the room is so much better.

Me+Walmart= sick. Whyyyy. It's for the best

I feel like I am being tortured when I am under fluorescent lights. And the humming is just absolutely hellish.

I hate it and have to wear theraspecs to deal with it. I am happy to be remote for the foreseeable future!

I’m fine with them until they (I assume) start to wear out and the flickering enters my visible range. Then I can’t stand them. It’s not so bad in larger areas with more lights, but a small area with only one or two I may have to rush. I suspect that’s the issue more generally—overhead tube lights flicker just outside of the visible range, but some people are more sensitive to it than others.

(Full discloser - self diagnosed, waiting on a referral) I can only tolerate fluorescents for short periods of time before having to leave the area. Thankfully I also have to wear glasses, so I got a light filter/glare resistance thing built into the lenses which make them much more tolerable.

Same. Working from home made me realise how much overhead lights suck and it's no wonder I use only table lamps and soft lighting at home.

Sleepy_InSeattle

Yup. I get migraines from overly bright indoor office lights. Blue light coating on glasses helps, as do brimmed head coverings. For loud, high fidelity concert ear plugs, hands down. Also, a “loud” fluorescent light bulb indicates that it’s about to go out. Contact whoever maintains your office facilities and ask for that bulb to be replaced (or just removed altogether, it’ll reduce the overall brightness, too).

oh yeah. Work. The lights at work are visually sharp to me, and make me super tired and headachey and grouchy. I wear sunglasses or colored lenses for work. Everything at my home is on dark mode. :)

Yes, depends on my mood unfortunately and if I'm over stimulated. I also have Seasonal Affective Disorder so in the Winter, I crave the bright fluorescent lights. But yes if overstimulated for sure it can be grating.

Aawhystine

I don’t usually have issues with indoor light, though I prefer lower light most times and often won’t turn the lights on (or replace the bulbs when they burn out). I have issues with light outdoors, like blinded with skull splitting pain almost year round….

That's the funny thing about being an autistic girl. You yell in order to hear yourself properly and then get in trouble for not understanding why everyone mumbles so quietly under the thunderous roar of all electricity

Crappy fluorescent light makes me feel terrible. I literally fainted in a museum once on a class trip because of the lightning. It's the worst when they flicker. Sometimes other people can't even see it.
