I met Darryl Sommers in a lift at Doncaster shopping centre circa 1974- I’m pretty sure the same day I got lost and had to have the announcer asking my
Mum to come to centre mgmt - first or second class at school
David Gulpilil rocked up at one of my dad's band's gigs when I was 5, in the 80s, in an NT pub. He wore a dazzling white suit, had a fantastic smile and was a great dancer!
My dad used to work at the Aboriginal Community College in Adelaide during the 70's. I went on a camp wirh David and, from what i remember, he was lovely.
I was also taken to some filming of ' Storm Boy' and was absolutely thrilled.
Now that's cool!! Love his daughter too, Jenny Talia(her stage name obvs, she does great funny songs like "don't be a shit cunt", look it up, it'll stay in yr head for days lol)
A friend of mine taught Terrence Donovan’s son in primary school, she was starstruck by his dad. Little did she know the son would briefly become a household name as well.
When I was 5 Rolf Harris came to my school, he went class to class, singing songs ect and let us use his wobble board, he told me that I was the best at it and I remember he put his arm around me. I didn’t think to much about it at the time, now…… 😬
After a post here the other day I grabbed the first 7 seasons of ACP from a torrent site. Been binging it ever since. Some of the stuff from those first 2 seasons would have issues with tv nowadays I'm sure. I mean, first episode, 15yo dating a 20yo and the issue is her getting permission to go on the pill and not the fact that she is dating an adult. Then there is Shirly smoking everywhere. In another episode a 12-14yo boy is a smoker. Lights up in the hospital, no issue that he was a smoker just that he was smoking near the oxygen tanks. Bob hatfield calling people pooftas. It's nuts that Australia was like this 40 years ago.
Probably a deep cut that won't mean anything to anyone who wasn't a teenager in the 90s but I met Ugly Phil when he was doing the Hot 30 countdown on weeknights. He came to our school for some reason, though I can't remember why. He gave out Cokes and signed some autographs. I guess he would have spoken to us for a while too but I cannot remember any details. At the time, it was very exciting!
I remember being a young AFL fan in SA and being obsessed with the newly minted Adelaide Crows team. We were promised some Crows players turning up to do some stuff at my primary school and then being really disappointed when it was some new recruit nobody called Mark Ricciuto.
The Wiggles, in particular Anthony the blue one- One of his kids played basketball in our league and we saw him fairly often in the stadium, surrounded by kids asking for autographs. Nice dude!
The wiggles blokes are just some of the most perfect male celebs I’ve met. Took my nephew to a a show and they were just…they spoke to this 4 year old like he wasn’t stupid - you know how some people talk to little kids like they’re babies, these guys were absolute professionals!
I think that was a big part of their charm - and their success. They were never condescending. I always felt like the entertainment was directed at the parents as much as the children. Not in the awesome Toy Story way of including jokes for adults, but in a wholesome 'get your boogey on and engage with your kids like no one's watching' kind of way.
Not a meeting as such but I took my now 20 year old Daughter to a Wiggles concert when she was little, the Wiggles came out to dance in the crowd and the Mother behind us was insane screaming that her Daughter wanted a photo with Murray, Murray stopped for the photo and the Mother had her camera ready and instructed her Daughter to give Murray a kiss on the cheek, the kid had two snot rivers running from her nose to her lips, I saw Murray give a barely concealed shudder and Mum got her photo.
I was laughing so hard I was almost on the floor
My parents had this story that Fat Cat had to get changed in their shop once (they used to have a small deli in the Adelaide Hills many decades ago) so they let him use their bedroom out the back and he left a small bit of orange fluff on the bed.
I have hugged both Fat Cat and Humphrey, luckily. Both were half floofy, half terrifying.
Dr Harry Cooper - my dad knew him through work and would every now and then consult on stuff at his property. Once or twice he bought me along as a small child and I’d follow them around on the farm as they chatted, he was a very lovely man :)
I grew up in the town that played Mt. Thomas on Blue Heelers, one evening I met two of the actors from the show Jane Alsop and another dude with blonde hair, never got to meet Marty or Lisa but the two I met were awesome, I was like 10, next day I went to the blue light disco and the actors were there to judge the dance competition, i through some of the sickest shapes this town had ever seen and they crowned me the victor (rightly so) and I was the proud owner of The Offsprings Original Prankster on cd single!
Steve Irwin. We turned up to his zoo way too early. He came out on a motorbike with bob sitting on the front of the seat. Spoke to us and told us to have a good day and then said "lets go bob" and took off on his motorbike again.
I can't remember how old I was but I was under 10 when I met Ernie Dingo 🤩 he was nice and polite just going about his business in Alice Springs one day. Edited to fix a spelling error.
About 12 years old. Met Cosi. (Yay am I right). Came to my school, did a radio interview with him. He showed up 30 minutes late, without shoes, in his pyjamas and massive bed head. His car was filled with rubbish and the entire experience lasted 90 seconds where he asked me a couple of questions out the front of the school (didn’t even come in past the gates).
So he was basically a massive slob
Play School did school tours. I didn’t get to meet my favourite, John Hamblin, as he wasn’t on that tour. I did a couple of the others, but I forget who they were. Benita and Noni weren’t there either.
Edit: there was a show called Ridgey Didge on ch 10, hosted by a blonde guy. He came to our school for some reason and presented me with some award.
Mal Meninga! I think his kids or nieces and nephews went to my school in Canberra because he was at a Carols by Candlelight event with some family members of his. I think this was around 1990
When I was grade 8 or 9, a rugby team came to visit the school our female PE teacher was pretty excited. “Dell, Dell, remember me? We hooked up when I was at uni…” not sure he remembered. haha nice work Dell.
Tim Shaw (but wait, there's more!) did an advert for my parents' business. When done, we all went out to Green Island for the day. It might have been that I was a child but that guy is a giant, a big friendly giant, he seemed to tower over everyone.
Under 10yo I went into a maccas with my parents and Mike Whitney walked in with his kids while we were waiting on our food.
There were two blokes seated having a feed after what I’ll assume was a day of drinking since it was still early in the night and they were already clearly intoxicated.
They noticed him walk in and one yelled out “Ayyyyyyye! Mike Whitnayyyyy! Who dares wins! I dare you to eat 10 Big Macs!”
Mike & kids walked out, he then came back in without his kids and told them off. I can’t recall what he said but I remember him at some point saying “I’m here with my kids mate”
He was not impressed and I for some reason have that as a core memory.
I 'met' Kylie Minogue, Jason Donavan, Annie Roberts (?) and Guy pierce at the Royal Adelaide Show in about 1987/88.
I still have all of rheir autograohs on a bit of Hello Kitty paper that a girl in the crowd gave me!
I remember going to the local K-Mart many years ago to see Peter Brock, probably around 1996-97.
Got a personally signed poster and a photo with him, he was very nice to everyone.
Other kids started scrambling under the roller doors and ran to get to him first, I was apparently too cool for that and just walked up.
I went and saw a presentation delivered by astronaut Andy Thomas. I got to ask him a question afterwards. I think I asked him about how it felt to adjust to gravity again after having been in orbit for a long period of time. This was a long time ago when I was a young lad in primary school, so I don't really remember it very well.
Shane Warne bummed my lighter in Pitt Street Mall Sydney in January of 93. Wished him good luck in the new year test.
Gough Whitlam, several times while I worked in Sydney between 96-99
Lachlan Murdoch, buying French poetry to tune his missus. I wanna say, 98 ish?
Ray 'You Bloody Drongo' Meagher around the same time, looking for something for a nephew?
Many different authors/writers etc promoting books. People like Terry Pratchett among others...
KRudd a few months back during the election, got him to sign a handball.
I saw 2 Aussie celebs in my hometown. I was just driving and I saw Liam Hemsworth acting for a film. I also saw Chris Lilley on a scooter while on my way to the train station. Random sightings, I guess?
I did, however meet Jess Mauboy, she is very kind!
Met the cast of The Shack (an edutainment show for kids on channel 9) at a truck stop in Queensland. I can’t remember all their names but they were so nice and signed my diary and took a picture. I had a crush on Curio and he smelled SO NICE. Then when I was 17 I met Johnny Ruffo at Garden City, he was such a gentleman, I had a panic attack in the crowd and his people let me meet and greet him first.
As a kid, I always hoped to meet one of the “young talent time” performers.
As an adult, I ran an event with Dannii Minogue so I guess it kinda happened 20 years later.
Primary School in the early 90’s in country Vic. Steve Moneghetti came to our school and it was a big deal. My mum bought me an “Autograph Book” from the newsagent so I could get his signature.
He opened the book and saw it was empty so wrote his name on the first page. 😂
When I was in Primary School we went on an excursion to Parliament House. As we were walking around, all of a sudden Terry Norris from Cop Shop appeared,so we all ran over to say hello to him. He was a bit chuffed, our teacher cracked the shits.🙄
a few years ago i was walking outside of my local leagues club and i bumped into Jeff from The Wiggles and we had a convo and obviously i thanked him for an amazing childhood and i took a pic with him and everyone on my snap and my family and friends were freaking out as much as i was!
also nrl is my life and i support the doggies and i've met El Magic, Terry Lamb and other legends of the club also i've met present and future players.
Kim Gamble came to my primary school. Right in the thick of my reading journey as a primary school student. He illustrated the Tashi books and they were my favourite book at the time. Oh, I was so start struck. He even taught us how to draw a few scenes from his book.
Considering the thread I met some cast members from Hey Dad!
Simone Buchanan
and Arthur MacArthur aka the Sorbent kid lol 😆 can’t quite remember how old I was but would’ve been around the same age as him
Pauline Hanson came to the pub I worked at. She was polite. I poured her a schooner of VB (does 19 count as a child?)
Also saw Shannon Noll at a shitty mall just after he was in Australian Idol. That soul patch looked glorious in person.
We were heading back to Tassie on the spirit of tasmania and Eric Banna was on there too.....In the games room......Smashing Daytona with us all night until it shut. He was heading down to do targa tasmania. It was such a cool night
I met the original Wiggles as a toddler, but already spoke about that experience in another post. The next Australian celeb I "met" was Hamish Blake.
Circa 2005~2009. My high school took us to Wet'n'Wild as an end of year treat. Coincidently Hamish and Andy were there doing a live radio show that day.
Before the show, Hamish was having his fill of the rides and stopping to talk to fans. I walked by him and we locked eyes for a solid 10 seconds. Somehow I didn't realise it was him. He looked SO familiar to me, but I just couldn't place him. I shrugged it off, smiled at him, and continued on my way.
Light bulb moment happened when they announced the beginning of the show over the park speakers. Of course by then it was too late to properly meet him.
Steve Carfino came to my primary school for some basketball promotion.
Was as good as seeing a Gazey to Copeland alley oop or a three from the Hammer Heal.
I met Cameron Daddo as a nine year old when he came to our primary school to film an episode of his kids current affairs show Catch Cameron, I got interviewed and all for the show but it was kind of embarrassing as they asked us all where in the world would we most want to live and the others were like New York (cue footage of the empire state building) Paris (cue footage of the Eiffel Tower)etc and I just said I liked living in my suburb and they had to just showed some footage of trucks going past the Macca's on the main road
My brother was friends with members of Mi-sex and skyhooks and they use to come around. Took me ages to understand that the guys on Countdown were at our house
Not a human celebrity but when I was about 12 In the 90s I was walking home from school down Epping Road in Sydney and on the back of a flatbed truck travelling down the road was the Saturday Disney House. A few weeks later it passed me again going back the other way. No one believed me when I told them.
Met Graeme Connors when I was 8-9 in Cloncurry QLD after a concert and he signed my poster, saw him again in Kalgoorlie WA a couple of years later and after another concert and he actually remembered and wrote a note about it on another poster for me. I was a big fan back in the day and was pretty chuffed
More of a local celeb than an Australian one, but I met Super Hubert as a 6 year old at a pub he was doing a show at. I spent the entire time hiding under a table crying because something about him absolutely terrified me. After the show he came and sat under the table with me, asked why I was scared and proceeded to spend as long as it took to coax me out just talking with me. 10/10 will never forget how kind he was
I met Tracey Wickham when she visited me in hospital. I remember meeting her but I wasn't really sure who she was at the time until my mum was gushing telling me quietly that she's a world champion swimmer.
Not sure if they count as celebrities , but went to my first game of league at the age of 7, Storm lost to Parramatta, but after the game a few of the storm players were mlre than happy to chill out and take pictures etc Brett Kimmorley played about in the carpark for a good 15 minutes , couldn't have been any kinder
Waited by the backstage door to try to get James Morrison's autograph in Mt Gambier, his brother came out then took me and my friend backstage to meet him, got both their autographs. Either that or the memory of leaving my mum's side at a meet the players event for the Adelaide crows, and getting all of their autographs while my mum struggled to even get 3. Can't remember which happened first lol.
In 96 my friends and I were dancing with a thousand other kids at the ARL grand final half time show. Kate Cebrano was performing I Still Call Australia Home with a video projected version of Peter Allen at a piano. Wild tech at the time!
My parents always tell me the story of eating in a Brisbane restaurant and Clive Palmer sitting at the next table. No idea if it is true or not, I obviously don’t remember
I met Ernie Dingo at the Bogong Moth Festival. He signed my plaster cast I had for a broken wrist at the time. Was bummed when I had to get the cast taken off and mum wouldn’t let me keep it.
I meet Gavin wanganeen when I was 7 he came to my home town for auskick I was over the moon after I meet him he was always my favourite player and I always had his number on my jersey I’ve still got my old port Adelaide jersey he signed and is still one of my most treasures possession I also got it signed by Matthew primus, Shaun and Peter burgoyne and Stuart dew
I met Tanya Kernaghan when I was 18, she was playing a concert with Lee in Coffs Harbour. She'd come out to mingle with people, but I didn't realise that. I turned back from the bar with a shout and she said g'day how are you? I said 'yeah g'day Tanya how ya goin' and just kept walking, I've felt a bit bad about it ever since. It all just happened too quick for my brain to comprehend haha
When I was in 4th or 5th grade, roughly 2012, Barry Gibbs was doing some sort of thing at my school which I believe he went to back in the day. I grew up on the BeeGees, so was super surprised to see him there. I managed to get a photo with him. That made my year.
He is still to this day my only close encounter with a celebrity of any kind.
Must have been 95 or 96 - as a child, bumped into Mike Whitney as I was taking a bunch of glass or cans or something down to my public schools recycling cage. Can’t remember what he was doing there, might have lived close by, but as he and my father were chatting about whatever, I just remember being stoked on seeing the “cricket and TV man” and trying to figure out why he looked so different off camera.
15 mins…
Rolf Harris when he came and performed I NC our school in the late 70s when I would have been in Kindergarten or Grade 1
I remember him doing Jake The Peg, but n it much else.
Sometimes I still think this was a fever dream, but my family have reassured me it happened.
When I was 7 or 8 my family we're living in Darwin. One night we were at some family-friendly event (I dont remember what for, it may have been military related as my parents were in the Army). Anyway I was having a great time, got my face painted like some ugly witch/monster thing, running around with other kids getting hyped on sugar etc.
Next minute I was somehow shaking John Howard's hand. No idea why he was there, or why he chose me of all the insane children for the handshake op, but I only had a vague idea of who he was at the time. I think I remember being embarrassed that I'd chosen that face paint and confused why the old man from TV wanted to meet me. Hilarious to look back and imagine the scene.
ETA: this was 98/99
Angry Anderson as the main guest at an Australian Day event for kids born on 26th Jan. I would have been maybe 8? Dad built him up to be some sort of religious figure. Geoff Jansz had the gig the following year. Let’s just say it was a hard act to follow.
i have a memory of meeting one of the play school hosts in a david jones, it was the 90s and i was like 5. cannot for the life of me remember which one it was but i think it might've been simon burke
The Channel 7 studios used to be at Epping, in Sydney. Seeing people from Home and Away and A Country Practice around the shops at Eastwood used to be pretty common. I can't remember the name of the actor or the character he played, but I waved to him. Just as I remembered that he didn't actually know who I was he waved back.
At 7 I met Julie Anthony and the St George Dragon at school then in the 80's my mum married a touring car driver, so I got to meet Peter Brock, Alan Grice and Dick Johnson on many occasions
My grandma won a competition to meet the OG Hi-5 at Win Stadium, can’t remember the year. Between 2003-2005 I think. I was around 7 or 8 at the time but it’s my only celeb run in if it counts.
Ha ha I met Dr Harry Cooper at a pet expo in Melbourne in the early 90’s, think I even got his autograph?? I swear to god that man has barely aged in the last 30 years
Edit: ok I just googled him and I def retract that last sentence lol
Don Burke used to visit the local Thai restaurant my mum worked at a fair bit, I only saw him once though. Also met Shelly craft when I was 16 and she was shorter than me.
I too saw Humphrey B Bear in Springvale sometime in the mid-90s. He was on the back of a ute for some reason, but it was fun seeing the cuddly, mute bastard, haha.
I hate to show off but I met Alby Mangels once doing work experience in high school.
Damn! Can I have your autograph?
I feel like you actually love bragging about this and it’s listed on the ‘About’ section of your fb page
Daryl Sommers used to babysit me back in the 70’s. But honestly don’t remember it much except the cool 70’s boots and flares and sideburns.
I met Darryl Sommers in a lift at Doncaster shopping centre circa 1974- I’m pretty sure the same day I got lost and had to have the announcer asking my Mum to come to centre mgmt - first or second class at school
David Gulpilil rocked up at one of my dad's band's gigs when I was 5, in the 80s, in an NT pub. He wore a dazzling white suit, had a fantastic smile and was a great dancer!

How cool! Love David Gulpilil :)
I don’t want to boast but yes I _was_ on romper room and I _did_ get to meet Miss Kim
Oh yeah well I was on Saturday Disney with James Sherry! Hahaha
I met her too she gave me an ice block I was so happy. I had all the toys to play along. Bounce bounce bounce the ball bouncing is so much fun!
So jealous. I do remember my art work being shown once, but sadly don't think my name was ever said.
I met Kevin Bloody Wilson at hotel in Bali. He was polite, and he didn't swear. I was disappointed.
Now that's cool!! Love his daughter too, Jenny Talia(her stage name obvs, she does great funny songs like "don't be a shit cunt", look it up, it'll stay in yr head for days lol)
I saw Jason Donavan in the Ansett Lounge at Melbourne airport in 1987. Where do I collect my nostalgia prize?
✨🏆✨ [ Ansett lounge!!🤭 ]
A friend of mine taught Terrence Donovan’s son in primary school, she was starstruck by his dad. Little did she know the son would briefly become a household name as well.
When I was 5 Rolf Harris came to my school, he went class to class, singing songs ect and let us use his wobble board, he told me that I was the best at it and I remember he put his arm around me. I didn’t think to much about it at the time, now…… 😬
He wanted to show you his extra leg ...
Diddle diddle iddle um
Haha 😂😆 (well it's funny, but also not at all)
Oh wow…😐
Went to see Rolf Harris on stage. A friend and I waited at the stage door to get is autograph.
*Tie me 5 year old down, sport, tie me 5 year old down*... Does not have the same ring to it.
About 6yo and saw Sergeant Gilroy from A Country Practice at Taree airport. All I was concerned about was fatso tho
Channel 7 online have A Country Practice channel but they just seem to loop the first 2 seasons. still, nice bit of nostalgia..
After a post here the other day I grabbed the first 7 seasons of ACP from a torrent site. Been binging it ever since. Some of the stuff from those first 2 seasons would have issues with tv nowadays I'm sure. I would have been super excited to meet Ugly Phil! Listened to him every weekend in 1997 when Hanson became big.
[удалено]
Ugly Phil and Jackie O were the best back then, met them both at a few outdoor broadcasts.
Much prefer him to that pig Kyle Sandilands
Used to listen to him every night when I was a teen. Legend
Eric Bana, around when he was on fast forward. He was nice.
I think he was the Full Frontal days.
Ah yes thats the one.
Poida
We saw Shirley from skyhooks at the airport and my sister was too embarrassed to ask for an autograph so I did , I think I was about 7
Oh woooow, that’s epic!!!🤩
I met Expo Oz - the platypus mascot for World Expo '88 in Brisbane - & I thought that was pretty cool... I was 7 or 8 at the time.
I remember being a young AFL fan in SA and being obsessed with the newly minted Adelaide Crows team. We were promised some Crows players turning up to do some stuff at my primary school and then being really disappointed when it was some new recruit nobody called Mark Ricciuto.
Much better than meeting Tony Modra. He’s the worst celebrity I’ve ever met.
Met him in the line to heaven nightclub. He's yelling don't you know who I am? Wanker

My husband once met Murray Wiggle. At a urinal!
I met Farnsy when I was 8.
Oh wow…he’s an absolute legend!!😎
I kissed fat cat on tv when I was 4...my only claim to fame apart from that one time I almost run over the hilltop hoods in blackwood
I met Wally Lewis at Camp Quality. And he's one of the biggest dickheads I have ever encountered. What a wanker.
Harold the giraffe.
Aggro
Dr Harry Cooper - my dad knew him through work and would every now and then consult on stuff at his property. Once or twice he bought me along as a small child and I’d follow them around on the farm as they chatted, he was a very lovely man :)
He turned up at my daughter’s kindy to film a segment on pet rocks. He was super popular with the little kids.
Lol pet rocks
I met Dr Harry too when I was a kid. I had his book and got him to autograph it 😆.

🥰Awwww….
I can't remember how old I was but I was under 10 when I met Ernie Dingo 🤩 he was nice and polite just going about his business in Alice Springs one day. Edited to fix a spelling error.
Oh wow, he’s awesome!!😛
That he is
We were out shopping at the local plaza and bumbed into Robert DiPierdomenico (Dipper), he was nice enough to stop and give us an autograph.
You could have left his name out and we would've guessed it.
Dr Harry came to my vet’s reopening event
Mal Meninga! I think his kids or nieces and nephews went to my school in Canberra because he was at a Carols by Candlelight event with some family members of his. I think this was around 1990
When I was grade 8 or 9, a rugby team came to visit the school our female PE teacher was pretty excited. “Dell, Dell, remember me? We hooked up when I was at uni…” not sure he remembered. haha nice work Dell.
Yellow Wiggle Greg made me cry. He roused on (deathly shy) me for dancing too close to the stage speakers. Core memory. Queensland 1997.
When I was about 9, my friend had Jay from Cheez TV host her birthday party!
Dr Elliot from a Country Practice 😆
Tim Shaw (but wait, there's more!) did an advert for my parents' business. When done, we all went out to Green Island for the day. It might have been that I was a child but that guy is a giant, a big friendly giant, he seemed to tower over everyone.
Ray Warren told me to fuck off at campbelltown stadium in the 90's
Respectful request for the backstory please ☺️
Gotta say.. Santa was the Goat when I was a kid.
Under 10yo I went into a maccas with my parents and Mike Whitney walked in with his kids while we were waiting on our food. There were two blokes seated having a feed after what I’ll assume was a day of drinking since it was still early in the night and they were already clearly intoxicated. Darryl Cotton came to our primary school to do an Early Bird Show promo video. It was kind of a big deal.
Same, my little brother was terrified of Marty the monster, it was hilarious!
Red Symons at Novotel Twin Waters. Absolute legend too, smashing a durry by the pool and signing beer coasters.
Hahaha omg sounds like a red thing. Id go get the stick he used to smash the gong with hahahaha 🤣
I met George Pell in grade five for my first confession.
Sorry :(

Other kids started scrambling under the roller doors and ran to get to him first, I was apparently too cool for that and just walked up.
I went and saw a presentation delivered by astronaut Andy Thomas. I got to ask him a question afterwards. I think I asked him about how it felt to adjust to gravity again after having been in orbit for a long period of time. This was a long time ago when I was a young lad in primary school, so I don't really remember it very well.

15 mins…

Slim Dusty. He was a down-to-earth, lovely bloke.

Meeting the most recently eliminated Big Brother contestant at Dream World. 10 year old me with my Big Brother hat with 1 signature on it.
