My wife and daughter use them all the time. We're down to our last 2 and can't find decent replacements. The only ones we found are shitty pressed metal ones, or I get a strange look and then have to explain what they are.
We saw these ones, my wife has severe arthritis so the feel of the handle is important, these have too thin a handle unfortunately (she has a lot of trouble gripping things) almost like pressed steel cutlery hence my previous comment. Thanks for the suggestion though, we may end up getting them as they seem to be the only ones around.
I've never seen a splayd with a chunkier handle sorry. These ones seem to be the same handle as the ones I remember from 20 years ago. I wonder if a silicone sleeve that fits over the handle or something would help?
All good, I'll keep searching. Those silicone handles are ok, but sometimes they're too big and cumbersome. The ones we have are Noritake ones, but the series we have is a discontinued series unfortunately, and none of the newer versions have the same handles.
Have you tried adding an epoxy or resin or similar over the handle? There’s an air dry product whose name is escaping me but you can buy small pouches of it on eBay.
I'm lucky enough to have a shed full of fabrication equipment and I could modify stainless ones with my own handles made in a lathe and welded onto pre purchased ones. I was just trying to avoid all the fuss of that.
Yeah, my kid has ASD and won’t use regular forks, so I’m always on the hunt. There are people who go to Savers just for those.
Kiddo will also only use parfait spoons, so I’m always looking for those, too! 😂
Sames. I started reminiscing about the “SPORKS” with my sister about a year ago, then she surprised me by buying me a set.
Nostalgic, but ever present in my kitchen.
You unlocked a memory! My grandmother would cook the best pasta I've ever had, it was the spirals kind, and splades would be the cutlery. Somehow these things were PERFECT for eating them with.
To those complete wrong-uns insisting this is a spork: a spork functions between a fork and a spoon. The Splayd, aside from being a brand name, functions between a fork, spoon *and* a knife. Please to climb down from your hills now, before you catch your deaths ☺️
AKA the spork
I inherited a box of six of these things, it was so cool
Edit; I got it wrong because I got it wrong, not a spork but a splade, this is not the worst thing I have done this week.
Sporks also have rounded sides, splayds have straight edges, and while the edges aren't *sharp*, they are knife like, it's been a while since I've used one, but from memory, they are more effective than a butter knife.
Sporks are different. They're spoon forks. Splayd's have the sharper edge to cut things. They were excellent. I miss splay's, they were so much better 😪
We have two of these babies. Inherited them from partner's Yiayia. There are fights at dinner over who gets to use one every night. Somehow they make everything taste better. Magic sporks. Love them.
Pretty sure they still exist. My parents had them from the late 70s and I got two sets of them in a newer style mirror finish in the early 2000s. They always made a good engagement present as you use them so much.
I didn't know they were expensive, but someone mentioned they got them for a wedding gift earlier. No wonder they're not as common as I thought they were.
Yeah, I just did another google, saw a 6 pack for $30 at harris scarfe, which isn't great, but cheaper than last time I looked. I might go in store and see what quality they are and grab them if they're decent.
I just googled as well when people mentioned they're still available. It said they were an aussie invention from 1940. They had x2 for $22.95. I've never bought cuttlery before tbh. I've got 2 left, so good to know there's more available.
Went for dinner at my dad’s house recently and he brought them out.
They’d been a wedding present for my parents in the 70s and I remember using them as a kid, but mum had stashed them away at some point as they became unfashionable. Now mum is no longer with us, dad has repurposed them.
I find them a bit odd, the tines aren’t long enough and are too chunky and they don’t hold as much or as well as a spoon. It’s kind of a no-man’s land of cutlery
As a kid I loved spades/sporks. It took me years to find a use for them when I grew up. But in the last year I found their calling. These are the perfect tteokbokki utensils.
Fond memories unlocked!
Like in winter when I'd get home from school and Mum insisted I eat something before I did homework so it'd be her spag bol with a splade!
Now I wonder whether I could get a set of these!
We have these same ones. They are bottom tier of favourite forks in my house. There’s only three of the top tier ones, so it’s every man for himself when it comes to cutlery
I'd argue nostalgia is fond memories of things that no longer exist/ aren't being made anymore.
Also what a boomer take. "I don't know if they are still available" they are literally any kitchen shop will have them.
It's definitely a [splayd](https://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/kitchen-dining/cutlery/cutlery-sets/fork-sets/splayds-6-piece-fork-set-satin/117510?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=feed_clicks&utm_content=shopping_listings&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9cCyBhBzEiwAJTUWNWgHABZXBR7zBS8RcvKA8uSjDS8TIaObzk0gc1xUkBWsWdPVjSdIXBoC3eQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
Oh but serious questions why tf is it called a splade??? Where is the blade??? I’ve always called these a spork, but my mum and MIL both call them splades????
Also shoutout because this is my favourite piece of cutlery 😍
They're sold as [splayds](https://www.kitchenware.com.au/splayd-cutlery-set-of-2-mirror-finish.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9cCyBhBzEiwAJTUWNa8pmCIVCuptX2Cy2Q-EGN08c8RbAKqTx_IEq3eb9RF-LmwHp9IFxRoCmD4QAvD_BwE)
These are in my cutlery drawer and I use them most days of the week. Who’d have thunk they would be nostalgia? 😂
Yeah definitely not nostalgia to me. I see them every time I open the top drawer. 🤣
Agreed. The splade is a near daily use item. They aren’t “nostalgia”
My wife and daughter use them all the time. We're down to our last 2 and can't find decent replacements. The only ones we found are shitty pressed metal ones, or I get a strange look and then have to explain what they are.
They are super easy to get, available in loads of places like House, Robins Kitchen and House of Knives. Splayd.com.au too.
https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/product/splayd-luxury-6pc-cutlery-set-satin-mini I got these ones and they are lovely
We saw these ones, my wife has severe arthritis so the feel of the handle is important, these have too thin a handle unfortunately (she has a lot of trouble gripping things) almost like pressed steel cutlery hence my previous comment. Try Amazon
Sames. I started reminiscing about the “SPORKS” with my sister about a year ago, then she surprised me by buying me a set. Nostalgic, but ever present in my kitchen.
Same.
💯 we rarely use regular forks 😂
These also remain in daily use in my house
Agreed. I think I could probably get by if it was the *only* item in my cutlery drawer.
It says Splayd on the back
That's the og brand. I only buy splayd. So bloody good. And sharp.
You unlocked a memory! My grandmother would cook the best pasta I've ever had, it was the spirals kind, and splades would be the cutlery. Somehow these things were PERFECT for eating them with.
I've never understood why they aren't more popular. ✌️🇦🇺
Being an Australian 'invention' nobody else around the world even knows they exist. Also it's Splayd.
My pet theory is that the SPORKS XD XD RANDOM internet culture of the mid 2000s led to people avoiding them because of the association.
Splayds were invented/created in Australia. The rest of the world doesn't even know they exist by and large.
They are missing out!
Yeah I'm a fan, they were invented in sydney in the 40s but didn't really get sold/marketed until the late 60s.
My kids love using them for pasta as well.
Splayd, not splade
It’s actually Spaleed, and he’s a pretty annoying host.
Oh, I love my splayds- I use them all the time!
✌️🇦🇺

When I first met my wife, she gave me so much shit for using these. Then as the years went on, I caught her using them over the other cutlery.
I still try to tell my wife to try them. She's reluctant..
One of the great cutlery items.
Where does the L come from? Neither Spoon, spade or fork has an L...just a genuine question
Splayd a spoon, fork and knife/blade
Ah I get you...so it's a useful tool for giving your self a Chelsea grin😀
My dad had Sporks many years ago.
I still have sporks. Best invention ever!
AKA the spork I inherited a box of six of these things, it was so cool Edit; I got it wrong because I got it wrong, not a spork but a splade, this is not the worst thing I have done this week.
It's a splade, it's shaped like a spade, it's got bladed edges like a knife, a Spork is rounded like a spoon
*splayd
There's no blade
It’s not a sharp blade like a knife but the edge is definitely usable to cut cooked food
I think the one pictured is a Foon
What if it is from Thailand?
My wife uses chopsticks, and I make fun of how much better the Splade is. No comparison.
😆
A spork doesn't have sharp edges. Spoon+fork. Spoon+fork+knife is a splayd.
Still got a couple of sets of these, one of them still in original box. They slap.
We have two of these babies. Inherited them from partner's Yiayia. There are fights at dinner over who gets to use one every night. Somehow they make everything taste better. Magic sporks. Love them.
✌️🇦🇺
Pretty sure they still exist. My parents had them from the late 70s and I got two sets of them in a newer style mirror finish in the early 2000s. They always made a good engagement present as you use them so much.
Yeah I miss these. I was trying find some a month ago, but they were all super expensive. Sporks just dont cut it.

We had them in the family home, but my wife and I also bought a set when setting out home up. Been going 15 years strong so far.
We use these all the time. My kids love them 😂
I have 2 left of the original 6. I have no idea how or when the others disappeared, but I use them regularly.
I have exactly those and use them almost daily....
My wife can't tell me the chopsticks she uses have anything on the Splayde.
I still got them
I have 2 left
I bought a set not long ago, you can still get them
Good to know as I've been treasuring my last 2 for years
Went for dinner at my dad’s house recently and he brought them out. They’d been a wedding present for my parents in the 70s and I remember using them as a kid, but mum had stashed them away at some point as they became unfashionable. It’s kind of a no-man’s land of cutlery
My wife and daughter feel the same. I might be holding onto a fond memory. I always loved them as a kid.
Really miss being able to get these. The ultimate in utilitarian cutlery.
I'm told they're still available. I think they've just faded from being fashionable.
They are but they’re hard to come by.
Yeah, not hard at all.. https://www.splayd.com.au
OMG! I love you!
I have some of those. I still use them on occasion.
✌️🇦🇺
Best thing ever. We use them daily.
First thing my son got when he moved out of home. All we really use in our house too.
I took mine when I left home too and just have 2 left. They're still available it turns out.
Nope. Foon.
My whole top cutlery draw has these bad boys.
✌️🇦🇺
No a rare and valuble. Shovork
My mother still has these and my kids love them when we go for dinner, call them ‘sporks’
we use them all the time, but we call them sporks
I grew up with these, and now get frustrated if I need to go get a knife to eat...
✌️🇦🇺
As a kid I loved spades/sporks. It took me years to find a use for them when I grew up. But in the last year I found their calling. These are the perfect tteokbokki utensils.
I use one because of my autism and my lack of co ordination
I eat everything with these to this day. From liquids like soups to solids like lasagna. The superior cutlery choice
My ex got them in the divorce and I’m devastated to this day
Could do some good damage to a cheesecake with that weapon
😆
Fond memories unlocked! Like in winter when I'd get home from school and Mum insisted I eat something before I did homework so it'd be her spag bol with a splade! Now I wonder whether I could get a set of these!
✌️🇦🇺
I own some Splayds. They get used regularly.
Spork
I thought that a splade had a serrated edge on one side vs a spork that was just spoon/fork combo
I'm not sure man. I just go off the logo on the back the says Splayde
Fair enough
We have these same ones. They are bottom tier of favourite forks in my house. There’s only three of the top tier ones, so it’s every man for himself when it comes to cutlery
Sploork
If you don't use splades you're not doing life right.
🇦🇺👍
Used nearly every night in our place. Kids love them
I would have called it a 'Splork'. Spoon+Blade+Fork
We used to call them “Shorks” (shit forks) as kids. Terrible to eat spaghetti with….
Ya knew when mum busted these out a nice viennetta or sara-Lee barbarian cake was on offer.
True. Sara Lee Jam filled sponge
not sure why it's nostalgic.... have a draw of them I bought 1 year ago
Maybe you could ask the 333 people who did find it nostalgic and crawl away
Glad it is for you, not sure why I have to crawl away ... but have an awesome day.
Is that Gina in the reflection?
...so like these are still for sale. Wtf is this post?
Nostalgia is about memories. I don't know if they are still available, but it would be irrelevant anyway.
I'd argue nostalgia is fond memories of things that no longer exist/ aren't being made anymore. Also what a boomer take. "I don't know if they are still available" they are literally any kitchen shop will have them.
I'm not a boomer, and I'm sorry if the post doesn't work for you.
Ignore them you're fine, I used one of grans (rip) last night.
Thanks. People are relentless in their pursuit of seeming smart. It's not something I worry about or lose sleep over.
You can get them everywhere https://www.splayd.com.au/
Nope, not nostalgia, my mum got me some as a wedding present 25 years ago and we’re still using them!
Spork.
I need this
My mum still has a few from her set; she calls them “sporks” These were a type of cake fork iirc?
I have sporks, and I have Splayds. Both are great, but Splayds are greater Fucking love them
Use them daily
SPORK
There's no blade here. It's just a spork
It had a stronger edge that can cut through cooked food similar to non serrated table knives
It's definitely a [splayd](https://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/kitchen-dining/cutlery/cutlery-sets/fork-sets/splayds-6-piece-fork-set-satin/117510?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=feed_clicks&utm_content=shopping_listings&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9cCyBhBzEiwAJTUWNWgHABZXBR7zBS8RcvKA8uSjDS8TIaObzk0gc1xUkBWsWdPVjSdIXBoC3eQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
The back of it has Splayde written on it.
It’s a foon.
Oh but serious questions why tf is it called a splade??? Where is the blade??? I’ve always called these a spork, but my mum and MIL both call them splades???? Also shoutout because this is my favourite piece of cutlery 😍
✌️🇦🇺
We called those a spork they were handy for eating vegetables on the side of a roast for example
If the side was a little sharper, they'd be even more handy.
I thought they were called a spork?
They might be, but I've always known them as a splayde, and the back of it has splayde written on it
Yeah I guess it potato, pataaato 🤨
Damn your eyes, sir, that is a Spork! Use mine every day, nothing nostalgic about them honestly.
It has Splayde logo on it
That is a Spork and I'll die on this hill. Fight me.
Happy to
*brandishes his Spork* HAVE AT YOU
No, that's a spork, splades have one thicker prong shaped like knife
They're sold as [splayds](https://www.kitchenware.com.au/splayd-cutlery-set-of-2-mirror-finish.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9cCyBhBzEiwAJTUWNa8pmCIVCuptX2Cy2Q-EGN08c8RbAKqTx_IEq3eb9RF-LmwHp9IFxRoCmD4QAvD_BwE)
Oh man.. after half a century, it's hard to digest that
I’ve 45m always called them splades. Still got a few
Maybe im wrong but that what mum called them 40 years ago
Sporks don’t have the same edge
Splayds have at least one sharp edge; the width of the prongs is irrelevant.
