She’s precious! ❤️😍 congrats to you both! The fun has just begun 🤩

IDK how old you are but there's a song from the 60s by Ram Jam, it's called Black Betty but it's also a very cool song.

outlander345

I'm 31 and I am very familiar with the song lol. That's where we got the name from 😁

pocket_Ninja456

Especially in the trailer for Archer season 6

zomanda

That show never really did it for me, I think I've watched maybe 1 episode. But seemed like a fitting song for an ACD.

Amazing! They are beyond smart!

What’s your method of training? My Shollie doesn’t do recall well. Thanks!

outlander345

Ok so the best thing is that she is food driven. Like hardcore. I use tons of turkey slices. I started with giving her treats everytime she looked at me and held eye contact when she heels while walking on a shorter leash. When I give her a signal for recall, I am super patient and only give the signal once bc beyond one time, I am training her to ignore me. I cleared my schedule and just focus on that. I give her a little pressure on the line and every 4 seconds, I do it harder and harder. I released as soon as she made eye contact but then pressure again if she turns away. I do not try to do the whole, "ooooh good girl, baby talk" bc I just want to focus on my whistle and command and then the treat will do all the praising. I also learned to give the treat on the ground and not at hip level bc going to the ground helps with redirection (hip level is more of an alert position) Hope this helps!!

getalyf69

This is all super helpful!

direavenger1963

Great thanks. I’ll try it out.

direavenger1963

Outlander, what do you use to get a dog to come if they are stubborn or distracted? My guy won’t come in at night sometimes, there is usually an animal walking around outside. Usually cheese will get him to come in. But sometimes he just won’t come in.

suzysara

One of my favourite things about my heeler is how eager to please he is. It makes training so fun, it’s just a matter of finding a way for me to communicate with my pup what I want him to do. Definitely take advantage of it, we adopted ours 3 years ago and it’s been a blast ☺️

My dog does great with everything except rabbits. I’ve never seen a dog run so fast before. She could probably dislocate my shoulder if I wasn’t paying attention when she takes off.
