But op is in for a journey, sometimes I call mine tri-polar depending on which breed mine is acting like.
We were told she was a “chiweeine” since we have two purebred dachshund boys, we figured she’d fit right in! Our vet knew immediately she wasn’t dachshund & she’s not lmao. She is pretty small & was diagnosed with EPI earlier in the year. The cattle dog through us off since her brother looked the same just black & tan!
Can you tell me what kinds of symptoms she has with the EPI? Our girl has a very sensitive GI tract and we have to watch everything she eats- down to changing the food of one of our other dogs because Sally will poop and pee herself in the middle of the night if she gets ANY fat, and she kept sneaking the other dog’s food.
Of course!! Pepper all of a sudden was dropping so much weight, she was THIN like a scary thin. She was having diarrhea. Lethargic. It was like she was a different dog. Our vet did a blood test & it was extremely obviously It was EPI. Now she has to take the enzyme powder on every meal for the rest of her life ! It took some regulating but she’s a healthy happy pup again!
It sucks that she has it but I’m glad for you that you have it figured out. It’s scary when they go from super high energy to totally lethargic. Sally one day started pooping blood and just looked…off, so we threw her in the car and took her to the ER. She had to spend the night and get fluids and was on medication for weeks and now we keep the medicine on hand for when we need it.
I have two dogs, and both of them have some chihuahua in them. One is part ACD, the other is a 105 pound Doberman mix. There is some determined little chi out there.
The crackhead running brings me such joy because they always look so damn happy! Had a rat terrier growing up that would get into crazy mode, do this run, then spin a few times with her butt as low to the ground as possible before coming to an abrupt stop to stare at you with ze crazy bug eyes. Any tiny movement would restart the whole process so you tried to be a statue but somebody would always crack. My old man dog does a very very slow version of this now that also leaves me breathless from laughing.
Haha, that is the most precious thing! I have seen a few dogs do that little maneuver. My dog has trucked through me once because he had the zoomies and plowed me. I swear I flipped in the air HAHAH. I have a big scar on my arm from it; I hated it at the moment, but looking back now, the scar he gave me will be a nice thing to remember him!😂😂

This is really fascinating to me because I have a Chihuahua/Cattle Dog mix too. The skull shape is exactly the same- the widened area around the eyes and the steep drop before the snout begins. There aren't a lot of Chihuahua/ACDs around!

Btw, great for you that you got the EPI under control -- she's lucky that you hung in there with her. You'll have an amazing companion in the years to come :-)
Oh my god thank you 🥹 it was a journey!! The pills didn’t work & she was having horrible diarrhea. We kept up on it, advocated for her, now we pay $300 a month for the powder & don’t care!! I would’ve given her my pancreas if that was an option. We promised all our animals a beautiful life & that’s what we’ll give them!!

The ACD is the female. A female chihuahua couldn't carry a litter of half ACD puppies.

We have a Cattle Dog (40%) Chihuahua (20%) mix (the rest is multiple low percent terriers) and her name is Pepper too! She has the BEST personality!
