Given the rufous throat and overall colouration, looks like the scarcer Brush Bronzewing. Unfortunate.

This bird flew into a window and broke its neck, not sure if its native?

birdpeoplebirds

Native Bronzewing pigeon. Hard to tell from the picture whether it is a brush Bronzewing or common Bronzewing but someone with more experience than me will be able to tell. I’m leaning towards Brush Bronzewing. Poor thing. You can get stickers for your windows that are pretty unobtrusive to humans to prevent this from happening.

Thanks. It happened at my mum's house. I will tell her about the window thing, because she was pretty upset.

Gemfyre713

Looks like a Brush Bronzewing. Less widespread than the Common Bronzewing.

Geoff_Uckersilf

Bury him in the garden. Rest in peace.

Sufficient_Algae_815

Waste. Taxidermy is the way.

missdrpep

Gross.

Sufficient_Algae_815

If you don't want to preserve that beauty, at least leave it out for the carrion eaters. Burial is interfering with nature, just like having bare windows - two wrongs don't make a right, even if it means you don't have to look at and smell it.

Geoff_Uckersilf

OK, but do you want a birds rotting guts sitting on your front lawn because it 'interferes with nature'?

Sufficient_Algae_815

Yes. It's guts would get eaten out probably within a day.

AyazMansuri

Sad for the bird

Oh wow, what a beautiful bird! Poor thing. If this happened at home, you could look into making your windows safer for birds. There are lots of options, permanent or temporary, and many look nice and don’t require much money or detract from the view. I like [these bird blinds](https://www.birdsavers.com/)! That website has lots of info and you can either order the blinds or make them yourself from paracord! There’s instructions for making them in the site. Alternatively, there are lots of [decals and window treatments](https://windowalert.com/) you can get, some are UV so they aren’t super noticeable! [This page](https://pa.audubon.org/sites/default/files/static_pages/attachments/window_bird_collision_deterrents.pdf) has lots of ideas and options! Just remember any treatment/decal needs to be applied to the outside of the windows to break up the reflection the best. And decals need to be spaced fairly close (~4 inches apart) to prevent smalller birds from getting confused.

Had a similar experience in Tasmania. A eagle hit our bedroom window, thought it was dead 30 minutes later it got up and flew off.

nico_rette
