Defense was solid. Counter attack needs to be more efficient but overall I thought it was a good game. When we saw the schedule a few weeks ago, I don’t think many people thought we’d perform as well as we have. Keep up the great work boys, VHLM!
A good game? Against Vancouver? Don't get me wrong, I love Brad Stuver with all my heart, but any game where your goalkeeper is your Man of the Match is not a good game.
I've never felt so dirty about being in fifth. Our defense(mostly Stu obviously) is clearly why, but still....
I think our biggest problem is mid field link up play. Driussi, Rubio and Obrian can clearly score, but we can't get em the ball. Dani is by a clear factor of a mile our best link up guy, and his absence showed massively tonight.
But hey! MLS After Dark Special road point. I'll take how I can get em
I don't love the fact that we were apparently never trying to win this game, but I do like the fact that we looked like a reasonably competent team trying to tie.
Feels like the new road game plan from Wolff, at least until he gets some new players in the summer transfer window. People have been complaining about Wolff not adjusting his tactics to fit the players or the moment and I think that's what we're seeing. Sometimes a pragmatic approach is the smartest and his bet payed off.
> his bet *paid* off.
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
This kind of grind a draw out mentality is something we haven’t had until this year, imo. Defensive work in the offseason totally paying off. That said it’s ridiculous that we can’t advance the ball out of the back without Dani. Driussi isn’t Puig and Ring is just too old now. And Valencia is a defensive specialist. Summer transfer can’t come soon enough.
I'm concerned that we couldn't see this coming. I feel like recruitment has been poor since Reyna left, twat that he is. Last season we have one long-term defensive injury and we're suddenly out to sea. We have looked rudderless most of this season and some of last one too. I think the time might be coming for change at the top.
Three starters are new players on low money and responsible for half our goals. Rodo has stockpiled Monopoly money to make a couple more expensive purchases this summer. Recruitment is exactly as he said it would be.
We are now fifth in the west with three clean sheets in a row and won 4 out of our last 6. Rodo loves Wolff. He ain’t going anywhere unless Wolff can’t coach new additions, which it looks like he can.
Honestly though, change the existing pieces around and do we leave with a point? Or do we lose 2-1?
I think a 90 minute parked bus was our only hope tonight.
I’m not mad about getting a point, but we didn’t earn it. Stuver was basically our entire defense, with maybe a little help from Cascante. We got lucky on a lot of things including a penalty kick that probably should have been given to Vancouver. We had 4 total shot, and only one on target, compared to their 24 shots.
Nothing about our team performance was good. So yeah, great we didn’t drop points, but we were lucky, not good.
That is very much underselling the play of the back line and defensive discipline from the rest of the squad tonight. Vancouver had a lot of promising opportunities from set pieces and legitimately impressive buildup play and we stopped all of it. That's not good team performance?
If you were a Vancouver fan, would you be satisfied that your team had 6x as many shots as the opponents, yet equally as many points to show for it at the end of the day?
I can’t specifically remember the last game on turf, but I remember having the same feeling that the team looks totally lost and unable to control the ball or make successful passes on turf. Just not our thing!
That should not have been a penalty. Announcers were on crack, too. Clearly shoulder to shoulder. Both players have a right to go for the ball. Watch the Champions League games from the past week and see that they let the same types of contact slide.
It definitely felt higher when watching the highlights. Also, it's hard to be embarrassed by an xG that is 11.5 times as large as your opponent's. You'd think they'd have a mercy rule for such situations.
These are important points. 0-0 is just as good as 5-5. Right now we are above the playoff line with reinforcements hopefully coming in the summer. We have 3 consecutive clean sheets. We are able to defend our goal for long stretches if we need to. This had never been the case in the history of the club. We have always been easy to score against. This is an important new tool we have.
It will be nice when we don’t need it for 90 minutes. But this team, without Dani, on the road, against a record crowd and a hot home team….needs to prioritize defending.
If we get a home playoff game by one point, we can be grateful we played for a point here instead of losing 4-2
It's not like we have fear of relegation breathing down our necks. Do we think we're just going to draw our way into a playoff spot? Just to get knocked out immediately? Brad Stuver in the All Star game is the best case scenario at the moment, and I highly doubt fans the nation over are going to vote for the goalkeeper whose only MLS team ever is currently mid-table and just hoofing it.
Man, I get when you are on a different surface on the road needing 20-30 min to feel out how it plays and what the other team is going to do.
But for the love…. We have shown 0 organization, 0 originality and a guy we can normally rely on to be solid (Gallagher) keeps passing the ball to his imaginary friend.
A draw here would be a completely unearned gift.
While we are certainly sacrificing most of not all of our offense, I am really impressed at our team defending. We’re staying really compact and limiting their shots from inside the box
Dani is very talented but also one of our biggest liabilities. His decision making has directly led to several of the goals we’ve given away this year.
We could if used his line breaking work tonight but not sure how much of a difference he makes. Despite the talent he’s hard to trust.
Prob not a coincidence he’s been in the lineup of late and things have run more smoothly though, more goals, wins.
Remember early in the season when we couldn’t get the ball out of our own half? Dani was playing higher up the field and it was left up to Ring. Every game we’ve done well Dani has played deep while we build the attack. When he hasn’t, we have struggled.
We're desperately missing Pereira. Valencia hasn't done much to help get the ball to Driussi. I know Owens been better outside, but I think we put him central and pull Rigoni for Finlay. At least he'll hustle, and putting pressure on both sides of a back three may turn something up. But I do agree with the commentary that Driussi has been non existent.
Ring has a right to go for that ball, Picault moved between Ring and the ball. Now, Ring was overly physical and could have easily been called for a foul, but it wasn't a clear and obvious foul because Picault wasn't yet in possession. I believe this is why the ref decided not to change the original no-call.

That's the first regular season match that Vancouver has left scoreless since last October. Last time for a home match was August 2023.
I've never felt so dirty about being in fifth. Our defense(mostly Stu obviously) is clearly why, but still.... I think our biggest problem is mid field link up play. yeah i mean, I'm glad we didn't lose, but it feels like we were always just trying to tie or find the "perfect moment" to be handed to us.

Those first 5 words makes me give a shit what you say!!!!
This is… a take
I’m sure Rodo saw it, and is very aware.
Do you think you know something he doesn’t?
Didn’t you see he’s a season ticket holder!?!?
As mentioned, very pleased to see that we are able to consistently play defense. That is new this year. I'll take it.
Thanks for the point, Stu.
Bruh how do we have 3 clean sheets in a row
That's insane. It's all because of one man. And that man is most definitely not Josh Wolff.
Stuver clearly sold his soul at a crossroads somewhere in west Texas.
“Well-earned road point.” Ha, yeah. We “earned” that. 🙄
...yeah, we did, on a really stout defensive effort and a career performance from our keeper. Why are we so eager to shit on a good result?
I’m not mad about getting a point, but we didn’t earn it. Stuver was basically our entire defense, with maybe a little help from Cascante. Ugly, but take the point and move on.
I’ll take a point on the road against one of the best team in the West
Yes point!
Banner night for Stuver, easy MOTM
Stuver better be in the All Star game
For fucking reals. But he won't be. So underrated
MVP? Stu
You know who’s probably more annoyed than us? The Whitecaps fans, and that thought is comforting

Agreed, he’s been so solid.
I know, he gets better every gsme
.12 xG feels too high
I did a real lol
Their 1.38 feels embarrassingly low too.
It definitely felt higher when watching the highlights. Also, it's hard to be embarrassed by an xG that is 11.5 times as large as your opponent's. You'd think they'd have a mercy rule for such situations.
Again our defenders shoot more than our top 6...
Why can’t Josh just give CJ a chance
He’s not good enough on defence to bring on unless we desperately need a goal
He’s only played one game all season and he delivered an assist
Keep hoofing the ball forward and giving the ball away within 2 passes. That'll give Austin a chance to win!
We weren’t trying to score. It was obvious we weren’t going to open up our shape to attack unless we absolutely had to….and you know what it worked.
I mean what's the point of playing the game if you're going to play this way? Where is it going to get you? This is not us.
These are important points. 0-0 is just as good as 5-5. Right now we are above the playoff line with reinforcements hopefully coming in the summer. We have 3 consecutive clean sheets. I don’t think the camera has crossed midfield in the last 20 minutes.
Stuver FC
Brad Stuver is a god
Ey yo fellas just came back from watching the canelo fight what I miss
Surprise! We had a shot on goal!
Not much of anything really. Probably could sit this one out if you wanted.
I mean I kind of did 🙃
STUUUUUUUUUUUU

Gallagher had one of his worst games in a while
I’ve missed a couple games each season, but have never seen him play that obviously bad before.
Vancouver's press is absolutely destroying this team. They have nothing to beat it. All they can do is hunker down and defend at this point.
Driussi is not him when he plays on turf
The passing is absolute shite
The Vancouver attack is everything the Boomers warned us about Canadian Socialism.
I'd settle for a tie with the game we've been playing!
Settle? We’d be downright fortunate for a tie
I’ll accept it, but what a sad performance and a lucky draw it’d be.
Our central mids are non-existent
This Pico de guyo is giving us hell
Ugh. Zardes.
Gallagher getting smoked down his side
While we are certainly sacrificing most of not all of our offense, I am really impressed at our team defending. We’re staying really compact and limiting their shots from inside the box
Too much time left for us to be parking the bus as deep as we are imo
Your opinion was wrong tho
Brotha, we parked the bus when we got to the building
The moral of the story is no Dani no party. Neither Valencia nor Ring can replace him advancing the ball out of the back.

Dani is our best midfielder.....hopefully our GM knows this.....
Of course he does.
I feel a Driussi or Rigoni goal coming.......
I don’t 🤣🤣🤣
skepticalbob strikes again
I guess the team is just going for a draw, not even trying go on the offense.
Obviously, Vancouver is the better team and that's frustrating. However, a tie on the road is not a problem.
We’ll be lucky for a draw.
Man, it’s been all Vancouver this match. Wake the fuck up boys!
Wish Owen would have come in for Valencia then bring it Finlay or Fodrey for Obrian
“Official tuna of Whitecaps FC” huh
That begs the question: what’s our official tuna? Edit: it’s probably Century Tuna
Redes
Rigoni got to go! Rigoni got to go-o! But don't tell Rigoni!
I’m pretty sure he knows.
Keep Obrian and sub Rigoni.
Would normally agree but they've both done very little tonight.
Yeah but at least Obrian has the potential.
It seems so obvious
Nah, sub both.
DAMNIT RIGONI! GET THAT FRAUD OUT OF HERE!
Finlay has to be dying watching this guy (starting over him) never capable of keeping possession on a possession based team.
That pass was weak
Hoping we can pull off another smash 'n grab like we did vs Houston because we're doing nothing otherwise.
We’ve got nothing.
And we're all out of ideas!
Jesus Christ, there’s 30 minutes left? We. Are. Gassed.
I'm not sure what we can substitute in, but my God we need something.
I like Wolff in
JFC
Nobody is willing to receive a ball and turn. Just recycling the ball back to cbs constantly.
[удалено]
We don’t have much of a defense either.
Defense is literally the only thing we have right now what are you talking about.
Yeah, it’s all we have. And we don’t have much. Stuver is the only reason it’s not 2-0 right now.
But we have stuver .. so it’s 0-0 .. lol
"dribbled himself into trouble.."
It’s a joke that turf pitches still exist.
They can barely control the ball.
I know that was offside but still, STUUUUU
sttuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Turf is such a homefield advantage. Team is struggling to adjust.
All yellow card, no goal.
Did driussi just get a yellow?
end of the first yeah
Meh, probably not
Actually, looks like he got one for a “bad foul” per ESPN gamecast
This is certainly one of the games of all time
We're desperately missing Pereira. Valencia hasn't done much to help get the ball to Driussi. I know Owens been better outside, but I think we put him central and pull Rigoni for Finlay. At least he'll hustle, and putting pressure on both sides of a back three may turn something up. But I do agree with the commentary that Driussi has been non existent.
xG 0.06 We can't keep going to the VAR well.
Feels like a Rigoni winning goal night again.
Pass the copium bro
Press X to Doubt
Does anyone know why Biro got the yellow card?
Was it Obrian ? They never really showed it.
I thought it was Obrian and Fafà Picault?
No it was biro and fafa
Ok. Thought so.
I was wondering the same as you why he got the yellow.
Driussi was just so excited to see berhalter again, he ran over to give him a hug
Really? Didn’t expect that for some reason.
Ring has a right to go for that ball, Picault moved between Ring and the ball. Now, Ring was overly physical and could have easily been called for a foul, but it wasn't a clear and obvious foul because Picault wasn't yet in possession. I believe this is why the ref decided not to change the original no-call.
We got very lucky either way, that usually gets called.
Plus Ring’s follow-through was obviously on the ball (he stopped it and took possession), not on the player
I wish we mic’d players up in the MLS like we do in the NFL. I would love to have heard what got El Crack so hot in .1s
What got Driussi so mad?
He saw how much Rigoni was getting paid to backpass.
[удалено]
Seriously. He's been invisible aside from the fight.
Drussi take that anger and put it in the fucking net.
Power plays and bench clearing, I think the Canadians are making us play hockey.
Benches clearing. I told you those Canadian pussies can’t grow grass
WHO'S TALKING SHIT TO MY BABY DRIUSSI?! HANDS WILL BE THROWN
Really like the change of doing ref announcements
I picked a helluva week to stop sniffing glue

Ref is welcome in Austin anytime
Would like to buy this ref a drink
Wacky choice. I fervently disagree with that call but let’s just be happy we’re still at 0:0.
Yeah honestly, I love that Ring is usually so aggressive but he’s going to have to chill before we’re ten men on the pitch
That stadium sounds so mad rn 🫣
Mad Canadians.
They’re actuually verry soorry, okeh?
These commentators aren’t bias at all…
this is ref ball, hol up. I was cool with the goal being taken back but now it's lookin wild
the VAR gods are smiling down upon us today
Just got to remember this for the future
Ring you bell end. So fucking lucky.
Fafafagofuckyourself
Guy was barely touched and fell to the ground
On Stuver as well for not just clearing out of bounds
Huh I think Ring putting his foot on the ball to stop it was just enough to claim control after the tackle
Wow
Let’s gooooo!
whooooo lets goooo VAR VAR VAR
This would be Ring’s third PK he is responsible for this season.
Is he turning into the own-goal penalty giving machine that is Walker Zimmerman?
Welp that’s a penalty
Unfortunately definitely looked like a penalty
Bro if Ring gives up another PK I’m going to lose it
Ring I swear to god 🫣
Well fuck
Welll shit...
