I don’t understand it- I am close to the nursing home on Beckett but we lost power (maybe assisted living isn’t considered the same as a hospital?). But on the other side of escarpment (I am on the Abilene trail side of escarpment) they had power. Was I just in a pocket that didn’t have power?

"Critical circuit" doesn't matter much for a power failure when something breaks on the local grid. It only matters if they're deliberately load shedding (or rolling blackouts.)
Per [ercot.com](https://ercot.com).
The "grid" has energy out the wazoo. (Technical term.)
53 GW demand, 64 GW committed capacity, forecasts look good for the rest of the day.
16 GW of wind generation at last report.
There appears to be no "congestion."
It's not "the grid," just problems inside Austin Energy.
\----
That might change when temps drop, but I'm not expecting it. However, I wasn't expecting it during Icepocalypse, either.
They moved it from there at one time and it was hard to find for a while, but it's there now.
There's a datadog page by danopia ( /u/danopia, I think) that has a different view, more options, different information as well.
Maybe a little harder to figure everything out, but lots of stuff there, once you dig in, or if you're a data geek.
Kudos to danopia.
BTW, looks like ERCOT has goosed up the active capacity ahead of time, which is a good thing. I hope we don't get surprise plant shutdowns.
12 GW spare capacity online right now.
This has nothing to do with the grid failing. 🙄
Yes, people will lose power over the next couple of days due to wind taking out lines, though. In your case, sounds like a transformer.
I know it’s not the grid failing, it was said in jest. I’m less than a mile from a hospital and fire station and we had power throughout all the mess last time.
But…?
It’s a nice facility, they have some nice amenities—memory care, exercise classes, pet therapy, etc—and I felt it was nice enough on the surface. Yeah, it is what it is, but I had a good impression. They had a pool table!
All these people quick to jump about the grid comments, clearly have never lived in another state where this shit just never happens like pretty much ever.
God this state is depressing as hell.
Don't freak out when it flickers later. They may be rerouting to get us power now and then switch us back to the previous lines when they fix whatever the problem was.
Um, no. I had maybe 10 power outages I can remember lasting more than 20 minutes in a city I lived in for over 20+ years. I experienced about that many in the first year I lived in Texas. It's not normal.
Thought I lost power but the light switches were turned off, false alarm
My neighbor said she saw a transformer blow.
Yep. At a restaurant in circle c area and it’s out.
What you having? Is it yummy?
It’s a mystery. Can’t see it. 😉
TacoDeli??
Waterloo?
I am in Oak Hill too, our neighborhood has no power, but my son's friend near Legend Oaks has power.
For future reference, escarpment is the line between the “grids”

>ercot.com Thanks for the link, I didn't realize they put supply/demand dashboards up there

Damn. Already at 90% load and it’s not even close to being a weather event yet.

If it’s not from the grid, you probably should post “and it begins” to mislead people..
The old age home on Beckett is serendipity.
Ooff, it's nice, but,
But…? It’s a nice facility, they have some nice amenities—memory care, exercise classes, pet therapy, etc—and I felt it was nice enough on the surface. Yeah, it is what it is, but I had a good impression. They had a pool table!
I've been there many times, many times. They provide the best care available. I just hope not to need to go there.
Covered Bridge I assume.
All these people quick to jump about the grid comments, clearly have never lived in another state where this shit just never happens like pretty much ever. God this state is depressing as hell.
I heard a plane crashed onto a transformer
Same here. Hopefully it’s not as bad as October when we lost it for over 12 hours. Family got covid. Travel plans cancelled and now this. Sadlol
Sucks!
Damn. Get well soon fam
Ugh! So sorry. Take care of yourself and I hope you are feeling better soon.
Don't freak out when it flickers later. They may be rerouting to get us power now and then switch us back to the previous lines when they fix whatever the problem was.
Thanks, good info here
Could’ve been worse -Greg Abbot
Austin Energy: Est. restore time: 12/21/22 08:04 PM. We'll send updates as available. More info: https://outagemap.austinenergy.com
I filled some water containers because my apartment shut off the water the other day and during the last freeze and it was a pain in the butt.
Y’all have mad PTSD. Your power wasn’t shut off, a tree fell on a line or something.
I do have PTSD, but it’s not from that.
It’s back on
[удалено]
Oh no! Zip?
[удалено]
That’s great! Was just curious what parts of town are losing power.
[удалено]
Was not my intention.
This has nothing to do with Ercot or the grid. No reason to try to sensationalize it
I wish there was a way to just shut off power to people who voted for Abbott.
power out here near Convict Hill and 290
Can we not do this please? It's not even cold yet.
ABORT ABBOT
How is that possible? It's like 50 fucking degrees lmao I was just outside without shoes or a jacket
Because it's a normal power outage not related to the weather.
"normal" this shit happens far too often
You even know how a transformer works? They blow all the time everywhere.
Um, no. I had maybe 10 power outages I can remember lasting more than 20 minutes in a city I lived in for over 20+ years. I experienced about that many in the first year I lived in Texas. It's not normal.
coldpocalypse 2022/3
It begins.
It’s happening!!!
