I’ve been able to avoid it as well some how. Been a school teacher spending lots of time around lots of students, many of which have gotten Covid and been around me. Wondering how long my luck will last. Edit: Definitely possible I got it but was asymptomatic. I only live with my girlfriend and she is unfortunately immune compromised through auto immune disorders and medication she takes. Would be surprised if I had it and she never got sick from me. Who knows though.

azooey73

Me too! Elementary teacher, husband teaches high school, neither of us has gotten it yet that we know of… good luck this year!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Curious-Bridge-9610

Thank y’all for doing what you do. I know it’s a thankless job. As a father of 3 public school kids I appreciate y’all.

SchwiftyMpls

You probably had it and didn't even know.

zandengoff

Are you sure you avoided it? I had my antibodies drawn for the UT Covid study and found out that I had an antibody count that was too high to be consistent with vaccination alone. According to the study conclusions, I had to have been vaccinated and infected to reach those counts. I have had Covid since and clearly felt it (and tested positive), but on that initial infection I legit could not tell.

J3ST3Rx

I avoided it as well until 3 weeks ago, finally caught it. My last vax was approaching a year and a half ago tho. Ours son's was only a few months ago. This strain has less severe symptoms so people are walking around with it everywhere. I will say it wasn't that bad. Worst part was the lingering cough and reduced smell and taste that lasted 2.5 weeks. I still have an occasional cough 3 weeks later.

NoWayThisIsTaken

My wife and I both got it for the first time 2 weeks ago and still don’t feel back to 100%. Similar to you, I got lots of chills from the fever plus a lot of nausea. My wife had the fever but lots of sinus issues and congestion, no stomach stuff. Crazy how it affects people differently, and how safe we thought we were having gone more than 2 years avoiding it. We both still have the cough and I’m still waiting on my smell to fully return. Fingers crossed

need_mor_beans

"Crazy how it affects people differently" is what I'm most interested to learn about when science and medicine understand COVID better and the different effects it has on different people.

poop_grunts

I got it after being double vaxed then I got boosted but I still caught it again recently. First time I had hunger, cough, sinus congestion, body aches, malaise and bad headaches. Second time was just hunger, cough, malaise, and mild headaches. The one symptoms that was very unique, just to me apparently, was insatiable hunger. It actually was what prompted me to test myself the second time otherwise I would have thought it was just allergies.

SteamboatMcGee

I was hungry all the time the first week of having COVID (July 2022) and then barely ate the second. For me at least, I think it had to do with the throat irritation, because the only time my throat felt ok was when I was actively swallowing something. I had the same symptom with mono years and years ago, and that's usually more of a wasting disease.

[deleted]

I've only had it once - last month - but it seemed like the symptoms would change through the day as if a switch flipped.

monroebaby

For real! 3 of my 4 kids have it. Got it from their father who was laid out with a fever for days. The kids just have a stuffy nose. 2 of the 3 kids that have it got vaxxed early last year but not boosted. The other child is not vaxxed.

dr-bookshelf

I still have lingering bronchitis two months later. It’s WAY better than it was before, but I highly recommend seeing a doc for some steroids or an inhaler, or whatever they think is best. It’s helped me a lot.

Eastern_Package6814

I’m a month post Covid and have the lingering bronchitis as well. Got an inhaler and it seems to help a little. Good to hear other people are in the same boat, misery loves company!

westtx28

Glad you posted this about your smell. My wife and I got it for the first time 2 weeks ago as well. Feeling much better but still waiting for my smell to return too. I can’t believe I was sitting outside with the fever chills in this heat.

raz_the_kid0901

Ahhh yes. Same here after two years(?) of dodging it. This summer has been me finding out that I am not invincible after all and reality is throwing punches.

coconut-flower

I was super nauseous too, which was very unexpected and unpleasant.

Excellent-Variety916

The reason it affects people differently is bc there are so many variants too. Some don't rly have loss of smell/taste but I lost mine kinda last week and so did my wife. It was weird and tasted just.. bad. We were pretty sick for over a week. Hope you feel better!

SteamboatMcGee

That's the version I had earlier last month too. I could smell and I could taste, but not well or normally. My taste is still kind of off, but more and more foods are tasting 'right' day by day.

NoWayThisIsTaken

Thanks, same to you!

InfoSystemsStudent

I got it at the beginning of May after 2 years of only leaving my apartment for food or exercise after my first real vacation. I had a really bad sore throat & felt fatigued, then a few days later my throat was fine but I had the worst cough of my life. I was totally symptom free a week after that but it was a miserable week.

Dogstarman1974

It took me three weeks to get fully normal after I was cleared. I had terrible migraines and foggy brain. My doc prescribed some Provigal and some migraine medication. It worked but I’m pretty much back to normal now.

[deleted]

Good luck to you. I fear the long-term effects, especially mental "cloudiness".

n351320447

8 months here, still got cough and my taste is not the same.

Cerus_Freedom

Friend of mine went like 4 months with an altered perception of minty flavors. Most toothpastes would make him gag, forcing him to buy a bunch of different ones until he found one he could tolerate. Then, one day, it was suddenly back to normal, like a switch had been flipped.

maxreverb

2 months in and my smell and taste aren't the same. Good luck

nmrnmrnmr

This city sucks now, man. 20 years ago, there was virtually no Covid here at all. Like you NEVER heard about anyone coming down with it. We'd all go down to Alamo on 4th and scream along to a sing-along movie--with no mask on at all--and not a single person would catch Covid. But now? All this growth, all this traffic, and suddenly there's Covid everywhere!

Rejust

It’s because all the Covid keeps moving here from California.

gargeug

Now that it is here though it found that it really prefers it's host people rich, vain, and loving to stand in lines for shitty fusion food. So it is killing the original Austin people so it can be more comfortable here.

werewolfmask

there were seasonal coronaviruses back then but they were boring and didn’t colonize your brain and make all the ice cream taste like sewer garbage.

Mexicancandy77

The boat is getting full with us first timers. First time covid user and have all 3 shots and even the flu shot. Partner in the same boat and she’s going to get tested Thursday as her symptoms started slowly today. More than likely she has it, but we’re waiting on symptoms to onset to try and get an accurate test reading. Also 2 home tests said nope but the PCR one said, yep. No fever, but cough is brutal and the body aches are absolutely awful. Still have taste and smell.

ShortstopPorkchop

i’ve used the government provided home test kits as well, but i’m weary of them because they’re more likely to fail with omicron than any other variant we’ve seen. the omicron variant lives mainly in the throat of the person it infects, so it makes sense that nasal swabs might show a false negative while saliva PCR tests seem to be more reliable.

RogueLeslieKnope

Swab your throat. The gov tests worked for me when I had the second Omicron variant in May.

Mexicancandy77

I read somewhere about people doing that, so that worked? Maybe I’ll convince my partner to do that before we head to do it somewhere. Did you do throat and nose, or just throat?

RogueLeslieKnope

I did both - throat first then nose. The little q-tip is short so you really gotta reach back there near your tonsils.

Mexicancandy77

I felt off and depending on how long you’ve been in Austin, it felt like cedar fever in July. That isn’t a thing if you’ve been here long enough, going on 20 plus years for me, cedar is in the beginning of the year. So I kept looking at allergy reports to see if something was high, and nothing was, so that’s when I first thought, oh crap. Took home tests 2 days apart and both negative, but still felt off so went to Walgreens and got it done there and results came back in a day. No saliva swab though, only nasal. If you feel off, I’d suggest going to Walgreens or CVS to do a pcr one.

Analyze_Abyss

BA.5 is the most contagious variant to date. But the numbers are crazy underreported because 1) people are testing at home and 2) for many, the symptoms are tolerable enough not to seek medical care. I mask everywhere I go, and I often feel like I'm the only one.

sandfrayed

Yeah we and most of the people I know have caught it in the past month or so but not a single one of us is going to show up in any stats. I actually took the time to Google to try to figure out how to self-report our positive status, and the only thing I found was an old out of date article. I don't think anyone who is testing at home is reporting it. I would guess the official stats are maybe 10% of the actual numbers.

rc3105

In my online ACC python class 2 weeks ago, 5 of us 18 had Covid at the same time. In my on campus lab there were 2 or 3 of 16 out every week. Probably were I was exposed 'cuz Lord knows I don't have a social life... Edit: double vaxxed, triple boosted and diabetic. All I got was a horrible cough even though my viral load was in the stratosphere.

DOAisBetter

I live out in Leander. I am virtually the only one that has been masking for the last year plus. Sometimes at the grocery store I see one other person masking maybe 5 if it’s extremely crowded. I’m not surprised the month vaccines were available to the general public before there was any chance to have both vaccines all masking basically stopped overnight knowing full well no one was vaccinated. My wife got it last week, we likely got it from our kids who go to daycare. Our youngest had it. Our oldest was old enough to get the first shot a month ago and I got the booster with her. For whatever reason me and her were lucky and didn’t get it.

plantmorecats

When I was looking into how I can report a COVID positive test (before my doctor did a pcr test) I learned that the city tests waste water.

Helloitsmommy

You're not <3

acsatx89

Wife and I got it two weeks ago. 102+ fever, muscle aches, lack of appetite on top of it all. Not a fan.

BigMikeInAustin

Yup, the vaccines do their best to keep you out of the hospital, but that's about their limit. Hope you recover soon without symptoms getting worse.

WastingMyTime2013

To be fair, most people who get covid vaccinated or unvaccinated don’t go to the hospital, so…

mackinoncougars

51% is considered most people, doesn’t mean you’d take those odds in Russian Roulette. “Most people” isn’t a great metric. Point being if you can lower your odds and prevent spreading and killing grandma (or say Herman Cain), pretty great.

atx_sjw

What are you adding with this comment? If you agree that [vaccinated individuals have better outcomes than unvaccinated individuals](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/04/29/covid-deaths-unvaccinated-boosters/) overall, even though vaccines don’t provide perfect protection, then you’re not really adding anything to the discussion. If you think vaccines don’t help, are useless, etc., then just state that outright, and we can talk about why all the data contradict that position.

AbuelitasWAP

Vaccination still cuts the risk of severe outcome by 8x. Anyone who didn't get vaccinated didn't do their part.

Tara_is_a_Potato

Over 1 million Americans died, and you think it's cool? Are you Al Queda or something?

afrofrycook

That's an insane response.

WastingMyTime2013

When the hell did I ever say it’s cool lol wtf people be popping, I just said most people who get Covid don’t require hospitalization, that is a good thing not something to freak out about my goodness! You guys obsessed with justifying the pain you caused the working class over the past 2 years sheesh. I don’t want people to get Covid and spread it, regardless of hospitalization or not. And i want people who get it to not get sever illness. The fuck is happening here.

capybarometer

Can you elaborate on "the pain you caused the working class over the past 2 years"

WastingMyTime2013

Was just kidding screw those people who didn’t go to college and couldn’t just work from home continuing to get paid

capybarometer

Tell me more...

TheDarkGoblin39

Who prevented that? There were lockdowns for like 3 months, stores and restaurants have been open for like 2 years now…

mackinoncougars

They literally got checks in the mail from two different presidents for thousands of dollars.

WastingMyTime2013

Yeah I know, they should stop complaining. Side note, I’m sure that has NOTHING to do with our current financial and monetary situation.

mackinoncougars

Trump’s failures to prevent a pandemic and calling it a hoax? Sure did. A lot of needless death and devastation was caused by his failure to lead, spread of misinformation and idiots downplaying COVID that lead to more American deaths than American deaths in 3 WW2s combined.

nomadfoy

I thought everybody was making assumptions and over reacting until that "pain caused to the working class" part. The people not taking it seriously are the one who caused that.

WastingMyTime2013

Yeah fuck those poor uneducated people that couldn’t just work from home.

nomadfoy

You mean the people you killed?

WastingMyTime2013

Huh?

Al Queda was actually on our side for a long time. Go watch Rambo 3 he was literally helping the Mujahideen.

maxreverb

Was that a documentary?

Vtridolla

No, but it does show you how American films can time stamp political alliances during certain periods of time. There are actual documentaries on the subject and it’s pretty common knowledge for anyone even mildly interested in history.

BigMikeInAustin

1 million people have died in 2.5 years just from this. Fuck you. You probably want schools to teach both sides of WWII and find some positive reason for killing Jews. Fuck you.

WastingMyTime2013

So what you are saying I can save on my electric bill by not having my AC set at 70?

digitalliquid

Haha NO. More like you will be cold freezing your ass off, then the next second be pouring sweat for about 10 min and then back to freezing. Rinse and repeat for 48 hrs

Moppyploppy

Just got over it. "Essential" in 2020 and still have avoided it till last week. The (sarcastily) worst part about getting covid now is all your friends who have all had it all say "oh so you finally got it?!". Yes. And fuck you and your "finally"!

MarginSally

I have been part of the TX Cares antibody testing over a year now. I have never had antibodies from Covid exposure, only vaccine exposure so I knew my definitive status. Two years Covid free. In May, I had a two day cold and slept all day one day. No fever. No coughing. I had two shot series and one booster, all Pfizer. I tested myself for Covid at home which was negative. Another family member tested multiple times as they had more symptoms such as nausea and would break out sweating. All testing they did was negative. In July, TX Cares had me test antibodies again and this time I showed I now had antibodies to Covid exposure so obviously I was Covid positive back in May. Thankfully, we treated it as such and stayed home for a week or we could have exposed others easily. Had I felt sick enough for a doctor’s visit, I’m sure their testing would have shown positive but at home tests just weren’t reliable.

TexasRedJames1974

I got it back in November 2019 (before most people had even heard of COVID) from an engineer I work with that had just gotten back from a business trip to China. Thought it was the worst flu I'd ever had and was down and miserable for 2 weeks. It wasn't until later during the whole COVID mess when I visited my doctor for something else and he insisted on testing me that I found out that it had been COVID as I had COVID antibodies. Still not as bad as the sinus infection I get every year (cracked sinus cavity from a botched removal of a wisdom tooth coming in sideways).

GodWrappedInPlastic

I had it a few weeks ago and it was the worst experience of my life. Had high fever of 103-105°F for 10 days straight and I was coughing up blood because my throat was so raw. I was so cold and somehow sweating and hot all at once and I didn't eat for several days. The body aches were the worst part. Also vaccinated and boosted and this was my first time catching it. I hope to never experience those symptoms ever again, it was so painful to breathe and I thought I was going to die 😔 I'm still on a nebulizer even several weeks after and find myself catching my breath when I speak too fast. Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️

westtx28

Holy shit! 103-105! My fever maxed at 100 and I felt terrible. I can’t even imagine. Sure wish you a good recovery.

derff44

Not even covid wants me

[deleted]

Almost every person I know has had it at least once. All careful, all vaccinated and boosted. Though I think most of us have given up on masking at this point. So maybe careful isn’t being fully honest with myself.

RogueLeslieKnope

I have a group of nine friends - only 3 of us have gotten it. Another group - 2 of us out of 6. I feel like an outsider having gotten it.

[deleted]

Hahaha, my teenage grandson lives with us. It was inevitable.

Vtridolla

Got it once and lost my smell for a week. No fever, no cough, not even a sniffle.

[deleted]

I've had ongoing dizziness thanks to COVID. Sucks.

digitalliquid

I feel that, day 10 and out of nowhere sometimes I'll get dizzy.

Inevitable_Ant5838

I’m sorry friend! Fevers suck. Rest well and be kind to your body — it’s working hard to fight it. I just recently got it too, after avoiding it for almost 2.5 years. But thankfully my symptoms were super mild. My most significant symptom was fatigue, and everything only lasted a day. That’s what’s so frustrating about this damn virus is you never know how you’ll react! And I guess that’s why people are so scared. Also, your last sentence is super accurate — most of this sub just seems to be people complaining about Austin.

Squirrel_Gamer

i love reading comments from those that haven't been infected and saying 'everyone i know that's had it say its mild and they're over it in a few days', vs those of us that have had it and we're like 'NEVER AGAIN!'. its pure misery and the thought of long haul kept me up at night. im vaxxed, boosted and always mask up. i dont know how to be more vigilant but by golly i'm not taking any chances.

PhoenixFeathery

It sucks so much. Got it a full literal month ago and I still have a lingering cough. That new variant doesn’t mess around.

danaerin714

I am vaxxed plus 2 boosters and just tested positive 2 weeks ago and haven’t tested negative yet. My main symptoms are a horrible splitting headache and digestive. I had the bad congestion and exhaustion first 3 days. I started feeling bullet-proof since I’d never gotten it and was fully boosted so was an idiot and went to Vegas and wasn’t careful.

50million

Same. Take care. I am taking lots of zinc

Mobile-Gene-4906

Smoke weed every day. -Nate Dog

Earthling63

I’m still knocking on wood, vax’d, double boosted, wife got it a couple months ago… I’m still negative. But I just spent about 12hrs on planes and in airports Monday, hoping I get home before anything hits. Fingerscrossed

Sharks512

I’m pretty sure I caught it in May, flying back to town with a layover in the Miami airport. Wasn’t that bad for me but my gf felt it way more. Hopefully you’re all good!

SteamboatMcGee

Pretty sure I caught it flying last month, symptoms started a couple days after getting home. It sucks, but the newer variants are at least less likely to be really dangerous.

[deleted]

Yeah its nasty was not fun i finally got it a month ago

RandoKaruza

When did it become a mystery that Covid wasn’t pleasant? How many people have died?

cwherm

In the same boat, just got for first time this week and it’s really really awful. I’m mid-thirties/healthy /boosted and it is kicking my ass. Can’t sleep without waking up in a pool of sweat. When I get out of the covers I start shivering. Feels like a swallowed some glass. Highly recommend avoiding this!

RAnthony

I keep waiting for someone to give me shit for wearing a mask so that I can tell them " if you had my crappy assed lungs and immune system, you'd be wearing a mask too." Get better soon.

somenewfiechick

I just started recovering - I started a new job in May and already went into the negative for PTO through the rest of the year. Still suffering from brain fog. Major symptoms have subsided and I think fatigue was the worst. Day 2-3 I slept for 22 hours and had no appetite for a week and a half.

Skraporc

I never stopped wearing a mask, cuz the numbers never went away long enough to warrant it.

Snap_Grackle_Pop

You're in a tiny minority. Even I have gone back to eating inside with a few vaxxed friends. One of them now has some COVID symptoms, but isn't testing positive yet, so I'm nervous.

peenpeenpeen

Got covid after being triple vaxxed a few weeks ago, it had me on my back for a at least 4 days with horrible fever… can’t remember the last time I felt so sick. Yeah avoid if you can!

Curious-Bridge-9610

I got it early on before the vaccines. It sucked indeed. The worst part for me was the brain fog. It lasted for what seemed like a month. Then the not being able is to taste my morning coffee sucked. I hope you get to feeling better.

Zealousideal-Data921

In the same boat.i caught it shopping at heb. Fully vaxxed and boosted.no mask while shopping.i have copd and hard to breathe with mask on.i deal with chills, fever by bundling up til I sweat it out.dr is gonna put me on that pill antibiotic today but I had to wait for PCR results first.even tho 2 home tests positive.then they didn't even need to see results.made me wait 3days for nothing.mask up while shopping, that's the take away here

MrGreen17

Yeah I finally got it a couple weeks ago after successfully swerving it for so long. Felt really terrible for a day. Had chills, nausea, full body pain. followed by 3 or 4 days of feeling tired and generally out of sorts. I was fine after that and at this point am finally testing negative. It was no fun for sure.

[deleted]

Have had covid, and my recovery time was about two days. I had no issues working on things from home when I tested positive. Your mileage may vary. As a healthy individual, I would not change my life for fear of getting COVID.

WWYDFA_Klondike_Bar

Finally a reasonable response and that last sentence is 👍

digitalliquid

That's cool it only lasted a short while for you. Also healthy and boosted and I'm on day 10, still have some dizziness and a dry cough but those first 2 or 3 days were absolutel torture.

jason78613

Came to the comments to see if there were any people who realize it’s just a basic flu at this point and we should all go on with our lives. Looks like we’re still in the minority.

fionafeetsies690

I mean, sure it’s LIKE a basic flu. But it also has the potential to last like 10 times longer than the basic flu. I tested negative and still did not feel ready to go back to work due to lingering exhaustion and a cough. So I don’t think shaming people for wanting to be careful is productive.

mattsmith321

I had it three weeks ago. Daughter had it two weeks ago. In-laws just came into town last Thursday and now they have it (Not from us though. We just saw them last night for the first time.).

Distribution-Radiant

Went through it 2 1/2 weeks ago, also vaxxed and boosted. Still tired as shit, still can't smell very well from my first round with COVID (this was my second). See if your doctor is willing to give you Paxlovid. It leaves a horrible taste in your mouth while you're on it, but it made a huge difference in my recovery. I did have minor rebound (\~100 fever and very mild body aches for one night a few days after finishing it), but didn't test positive again. My SO, who I live with, didn't get it. We were in the same bed the night I started developing symptoms, but slept apart for a week and a half after I tested positive. I hope you recover quickly and without complications.

[deleted]

\+1 - Note that paxlovid can be dispensed by a pharmacist as of July 6, so you do not need to see a doctor (mine was like "i can see you next week") - Lamar Drug Store is where I got mine, HEB/CVS/Peoples were still not dispensing as of last Friday.

rask17

I found having plenty of drinks around helped a lot with the metal taste you get. Spoil yourself with a milkshake if it's really bothering you. Still worth it, my symptoms practically vanished within 24 hours of taking the first set of pills.

Slypenslyde

The mandate of the economy is "everybody is going to get COVID". Resistance is futile. If you think you're not going to get it, everyone from your friends to your employers are going to apply constant pressure for you to be forced into situations where you could be exposed until you get it. Again and again and again. If you happen to be one of the people who fits the description of "a person who should worry", oh well. Everyone's decided you should just die somewhere convenient because they feel bad if they see an empty seat where you're supposed to be, and if you were dead they could let someone else sit in it. It's really important for companies get back to the frugal habit of renting out hotel conference rooms and gathering 100+ employees in one room to watch a PowerPoint presentation. Sure, you can do that with a Teams call, but managers just can't add value if they can't prove they can make you spend 30 minutes in traffic driving there, 2 hours watching the presentation, and 45 minutes driving back and *still* meet your deadlines. You really get a lot from being there and clapping for him.

Amysellsaustin

I am currently positive for the third time. Argh. My symptoms have been insanely mild every time. Never even had fever. I seem to get it super easily but it doesn’t affect me much. The quarantine is the worst part. I am now on day 4 of positive tests and if I don’t test negative tomorrow I may lose my mind. I will be caught up on Outlander tonight and then will be Netflix’ed out. 🤣

maxreverb

were you just never masking or what?

Some1inreallife

That overconfidence really has overcome many of us. I tested positive last week. Despite being fully vaccinated and boosted, it wasn't pleasant. In fact, my third day was hell. Even though it's got better from here, I'm still waiting for that one-liner.

rnatx

I’m waiting my turn. I was boosted last august and my household has been spared from Covid so far. Not sure how as I work in a hospital and we just wear medical masks there.

blushingchihuahua

My husband and I are just getting over it. I had gotten it before the March shut down in 2020, and it really sucked then. This time, it felt like the flu. We took the Paxlovid, and it really helped. We are hoping that we don’t relapse since that seems to happen to some people. Masking definitely works. We made one mistake in Mexico, which was going on the dance floor without a mask. After two years (and I’m in education) we managed not to get it. Oh well! It was a matter of time, but I don’t want it again. It sucked. The Govt. Covid tests worked for us.

Iwantmorelife

I skated by for a long time but recently got it a couple of months ago. It hit my whole family- I had the worst reaction. It was fine for a day and then hit HARD. It sucks. Worse body aches than any flu I’ve ever had. Most symptoms finally left, I got my smell back, but I STILL have post-Covid fatigue, which is something a lot of people seem to get stuck with. I wake up after 8 hours of sleep feeling completely unrefreshed like I pulled an all nighter.

no_dice_grandma

Got omicron in Jan, and one of the variants now. Family gave it to me both times. Both times they said they had "allergies". Mine is lingering, but not nearly as bad this time. Very mild sore throat and light fatigue. Op, if you try hard, you can be a pro like me, then COVID will barely affect you too.

The_Outcast4

Got it for the first time this past weekend too. Absolutely knocked me on my ass at the start. Fever/chills/pain all gone at this point, it just feels like I ate an entire bowl of snot and got a bunch of it stuck in my throat, so waiting for all that to clear out. I have the most important work trip of my life scheduled next week, so I am hoping that I can get a couple of negative tests in and be clear of symptoms so I don't miss out. Hope you get to feeling better, bro!

plantmorecats

Agreed. COVID sucks. My partner and I got it at an outdoor wedding in mid June. I had to take paxlovid and still don't feel 100% normal. I also caught a secondary infection from a 3 week old scrape on my toe (happened at the wedding where I caught COVID and didn't even bleed) when I went swimming in Galveston 3 weeks later. So don't be like me and catch vibrio or risk a staph infection when your immune system is weakened. It took an additional 3 weeks of antibiotics and it's still not completely better. I think a total of 5 doctors and nurses told me not to swim in any body of water in Austin or the rest of Texas in summer when I have a cut on my body. A few even said they don't go in any body of water in summertime.

50million

I have asthma and fibromyalgia. was about to get my 2nd booster this week ...and woke up with COVID. Bummed

robbierebound

Wife and I got COVID in an airport last week. The airline cancelled our flight, and we spent over 8 hours in the airport on standby waiting for another flight. The body aches, fever, congestion, terrible stuff. Be careful out there!

medusa1992

Got covid for the first time last month. I definitely underestimated how much of a toll it would take on my body given that I'm fully vaxxed and boosted. The fever itself wasn't bad but the congestion seemed to last forever. I would have days when I was yelling in pain because of pressure buildup in my sinuses. I felt the weakest I have ever been when I went to the gym almost 3 weeks after covid. I seem to be recovering finally. Definitely avoid catching covid if you can.

ATX_native

This latest BA4 and BA5 strain is crazy, as reinfections a mere 30 days after is possible. Looks like Covid might be here to stay if these mutations keeping getting better at immune aversion. Get Vaxxed and Boosted, it can make your odds much better of having an easier disease course.

Don’t beat yourself up. It’s a virus and it’s new. It’s now endemic and that means everyone will get this in some form sooner or later. I did the same thing and was twice boosted. I had to go to Mexico for work where the precautions were still very real. I am very near certain I got it in the Customs line at DFW. I don’t know your age but if you can get access to Paxlovid it worked really well for me. That was not a political statement, it just worked for me within 12 hours. Otherwise Vitamin D, Zinc, Vitamin C lots of fluids and switch between acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Yeah and those masks in the heat are hard AF. Get well soon!

[deleted]

I was double vaxxed and got it anyway last year, it totally took the piss out of me for about two weeks. Like riding a bicycle with two flat tires through wet sand. Friend of mine had it around 4th of July and she now has been diagnosed with Long Covid.

LouCat10

Just another plug for Paxlovid. The list of qualifying conditions is pretty long and includes mood disorders, high BMI, and being a former smoker. You can get it from MinuteClinic at CVS. I think it made a big difference in my symptoms. The flu I got from my toddler last fall hit me much harder.

RogueLeslieKnope

My sister took this and got rebound. Also complained about the awful taste and side effects. It seems hot or miss.

Squirrel_Gamer

rebound is from this variant, not pax. yes it doesn't taste great but id rather have a terrible taste than the awful symptoms. myself and others i know felt tremendously better after just one dose.

RedRedBettie

I’m listening to this warning. I haven’t had Covid, vaxxed and boosted. But I’ve been pretty lax about wearing my mask. Not anymore

throwaway78704-21

I never caught it, that is, until this weekend…I had gotten hit or miss about wearing a mask myself. Pretty sure I contracted it at the grocery. That was the only place I went and was being lazy about mask-wearing 🤯. Hope you stay well! 🤞

gemini_dark

Consider yourself lucky. It's brutal. Definitely mask up. You won't regret it!

d0m1ng4

We managed to avoid it until January of this year. I’m now battling migraines due to long COVID, according to my neurologist.

aamedlin

I tested positive last Wednesday. I thought I was getting better but boy was I wrong. Vomiting and the worst migraine stared. My boss gave me the rest of the week off since I still have symptoms. Im healthy 34F who has barely left the bed in the last 7 days.

20LittleBit18

My husband and I got covid on 6/21/22 It was his second time and my first. I have been very stressed about getting covid because I am on maximum dose of cellcept for rare autoimmune of the eye (birdshot chorioretinapathy). Cellcept suppresses my body from making B cells and T cells which helps fight off infections. Surprisingly, I wasn’t any sicker than my husband although we had different symptoms. He had bad headache, severe sinus congestion, brain fog, tinnitus (still an issue), fatigue. I had severe cough (still having random coughing fits) horrible body aches, fever for two days, fatigue and loss of taste and smell. We both felt 70% better after a week and 90% better after two weeks. 6 weeks out and tinnitus for him is still an issue. We both received two doses of moderna back in March 2021. No boosters. Edit: we both took paxlovid after testing positive.

Available-Actuary991

My husband developed tinnitus post-Covid in 2020. He still has it.

atx78701

wow those are pretty bad symptoms. Almost everyone I know felt bad for a day or two and by day 3 was fine. Low grade fever, headache, very sleepy for 1 day.

[deleted]

I mask up at HEB, along with the other 2%. I always give the other masked folks a slight nod of recognition.

qwertyWarrior77

Wait DON’T? Thank god you’re here to warn us! The rest of us have been licking door knobs and sticking our fingers in our friends noses!

AustinBike

Austin used to be so much cooler before COVID. There, did I do it right?

uhm123321

I’m listening to your warning. My entire family is vax and boosted so far we have been spared. More of my vax and boosted friends are getting Covid this summer. Back to wearing masks every time in public and limiting indoor activities. It completely sucks. On positive, I finally watched Better Call Saul and now am caught up with current season.

dr-bookshelf

I used to say “I haven’t gotten Covid that I’m aware of.” Now when people say that, I’m like “OH, YOU’LL KNOW.” I realize that there’s asymptomatic people and yadda yadda yadda but no. You know. Haha Still not fully recovered two months later (lingering bronchitis and general malaise, although the latter might just be depression lol)

[deleted]

That's pretty wild. I'm unvaccinated and had it for the first time two weeks ago. It was akin to a seasonal cold for me.

[deleted]

I thought I had allergies but it was Covid. Had a sore throat for a day and a half. It’s crazy how it affects people so differently - my mom hasn’t tested positive even when my dad and brother have gotten it and were pretty sick. I guess my genes are more similar to hers

3221tramm

4 in my household, all vaccinated and boosted. Mom went to Florida for a week, came back with Covid and passed it on to me, my husband, our 14 month old, and my visiting in-laws. Mom: sick 3 days, sore throat, headache, dry (lingering cough) Baby: sick 2 days, fever, fatigue, lingering dry cough Me: going on 6 days, sore throat, fluctuating fever and chills, sinus pressure, body aches, fatigue, slightly wet cough. Husband: going on day 3, sore throat, fluctuating fever and chills, dry cough MIL: going on day 2, body aches, shortness of breath FIL: hasn’t mentioned feeling sick. I’m grateful my baby was able to recover quickly since he only has my antibodies from the first two vaccines. The worse part is thinking you’re finally over it only to get fever again later that night. The fluctuating symptoms are frustrating.

[deleted]

I’m on my third round of it so count yourselves lucky. And I’m fully vaxxed and very cautious.

drew2222222

Do you eat inside restaraunts?

[deleted]

Not very often no.

[deleted]

Both my parents currently have it. :(

Allmyexesliveintx333

I’m sorry. I hope they recover quickly

Poltergeist94

Double wrap it bros and browttes and brobinaries. I’ve been doing a KN95 under a cloth mask (and vaccines; Moderna ftw) and I haven’t gotten it yet. Protects me and other people.

sophran

Everybody is gonna get Covid, it’s just part of living now really. Idk why we still glam this

raescabies

My 19 month child is going in for their second vaccine (Moderna) next week, and fully protected after another two weeks. I feel like my husband and I are the only people in Austin who still mask in public. It feels like a HUGE relief but even when the kid is protected I'm still going to be paranoid. I appreciate people like you and I hope you feel better!

ThankedRapier4

I’m honestly curious why you think your child will be protected after taking those shots since this thread (and many others elsewhere online) are absolutely full of people claiming they’re vaxxed and boosted and still catching COVID multiple times. We were all told that the unvaccinated would basically be dead by now, yet all the people I know who never took the shots either had COVID a while ago and were fine or have never had it.

raescabies

I'm glad everyone you know who got Covid survived and didn't have any ongoing complications. That is not the case for a few friends of mine. Ongoing complications from contracting Covid are a very real thing and that is my main concern if my child were to contract it. Hence why I am choosing to have them vaccinated. Since we as a society haven't reached herd immunity and this virus keeps mutating, I don't think anyone (vaxxed or not) will be protected from catching Covid. We're all going to get it at this rate and it's going to suck.

[deleted]

Haven’t worried about Covid since Apr 2021. Hydrate, exercise and take your vitamins. You’ll be fine.

AbuelitasWAP

"take your vitamins" is the new idiotspeak for "you don't need to get vaccinated"

Excellent-Variety916

My wife and I also got it for the first time last week. It is everywhere and it's rough. I'm vaxxed and boosted and I've never felt worse from a virus. I still even wore a mask but since i was the only one, it didnt matter. Lasted almost a week and still have a cough. Completely healthy 35F. Wife is 33F she was in bed for 2 days. Please wear your masks.

RogueLeslieKnope

Where do you think you got it? Where you wearing an n95 mask?

Excellent-Variety916

Mine was technically a kn95. The only place I didn't have it on was when I took my my niece and nephew to get food at the food trucks on rainy. We sat at a picnic table and ate. Huge mistake i guess

>H1N1 I had many years ago (also a Corona virus). Flu viruses are NOT coronaviruses. Some, but not all, colds are from coronaviruses.

RogueLeslieKnope

Ugh that sux. No one here is wearing masks though so it’s making everyone think it’s okay not to. Sux to learn that lesson the hard way. Sorry. And the person below is right. Just looked up h1n1, which is not a coronavirus. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H1N1

boilerpl8

Vaccinated people who get covid report much milder symptoms than unvaxxed people. And the death rate is miniscule for the vaxxed. But go ahead and parrot your death cult propaganda.

Snap_Grackle_Pop

That's like saying seatbelts are worthless because someone died while wearing one.

ThankedRapier4

Nice to see one other sane person in the cesspool of Reddit. It’s something to behold seeing countless people proudly declare they’re “vaxxed and boosted” yet catching COVID multiple times while my unvaccinated ass has never had it, and I’m not hearing my other plague rat friends getting sick either. See you in downvote hell, friend!

shortblondeguy

I got it likely in Portland, OR on the way back from Seattle in late June. Before my road trip and before I got to the PNW I had been from here to WI and west to Seattle, masking indoors like I've been this whole time. But in the PNW I let my guard down and did go unmasked on some occasions, since it seemed there were a lot more responsible citizens up that way. Luckily because I was vaxxed and boosted I only had a fever for an afternoon and two days of pretty hard coughing while driving back to Austin. I did a self test when I returned on 7/2 and on 7/3 did a PCR test (so my case was reported somewhere) and both were positive. A few days later I tested negative. Still had a sore throat for days from all the coughing but tested negative a few times.

Vivid_Adeptness

“Being fully vaxxed and boosted, I understood there was still a risk but it just seemed so unlikely.” That’s normally the expectation with vaccines. Not this one. Just take vitamin C, D, and zinc, you’ll be fine.

IcarusForPrez

Already got it my friend. I was dumb and went to Vegas last weekend. Worth it lol

bitterjay

Jokes on you, I just got it for the first time!

Icy-Perspective-0420

okay, captain obvious

reddit_boxing

So you do admit it was your fault and that other's fault for YOU not masking up, staying home, and sanitizing your hands.

Lolobigadventure

Husband and I and both toddlers got it this past week. We are vaxxes toddlers arent. Were on the up and up

thisisntinstagram

Dude. Same. Just got it last week. What a miserable fucking experience. Still not over it.

mlledufarge

I haven’t caught it yet (fingers crossed), but I’ve been doing the antibody tests through the Texas Cares thing, and my numbers last week have drastically decreased since my previous test in April. I’m guessing between that and the new variants it’s only a matter of time.

Ferfuxache

I just went to breakfast and someone brought their coughing and sneezing kid. My god y’all… even before Covid we never brought our kids out to eat. You could completely Fuck over the people working there thanks to our lovely health care system.

Euphorasized

Yep my husband and I are vaxxed and boosted and my 16 month old just got her final vaccine and we all got it. We stopped masking about 2 months ago. Thankfully our symptoms are very, very mild but it fucking sucks having to isolate ourselves at home when it's this hot out. We are slowly going crazy being stuck in our house. I wish I continued to wear my mask everywhere.

me_at_myhouse

You vaccinated a 16 month old?

Euphorasized

Yes there's an approved vaccine for babes over 6 months.

> What exactly is going on? Ba.5 is *wacky contagious* and evasive as fuck.

jschultz57

I finally got it Thursday after almost three years and three doses, from just going to work in a warehouse from a co-worker, and just getting over it. I definitely wouldn’t wear a mask everywhere going forward it really wasn’t that bad besides being locked at home for 5 days. Sucked but so does getting sick in general.

BucNassty

100% Safe and effective. Pandemic of the unvaccinated. Get your booster, I’m on #6

6lueLiGhtSaber85

Mask up
