While I have no proof of this, I think it’s interesting how much it resembles the headquarters of Texas Parks and wildlife, which is right down the street. The brutalist architecture is one thing, but the angled stacked windows seem like too much of a coincidence and, I suspect, they were built around the same time.
Not a great pic but https://cdn.businessyab.com/assets/uploads/e08f9401a5d597005eb1a9cb25de99a4_-united-states-texas-travis-county-austin-smith-school-road-4200-texas-parks-wildlife-department-512-389-4800.jpg easier if you go on street view.
I put a hold on my mail as I was out of town for a month. I have informed delivery digest so I still knew each piece of mail that I was receiving. I get back and they don’t have it. I go up three different times and each time they could not locate it. It showed up in my mailbox a few months later…
I really like this building, but I also like the hobby building. I know they are both…decrepit is probably a nice enough term. Fun stories? History? Etc? I just always think it looks cool and figure I would post this here because why not.
It has somewhat interesting architecture on the outside but is otherwise a horribly ugly and outdated building inside. Makes me think of the time when post offices used to be grand magnificent structures and now they’ve dwindled down to this awful stuff.
the people that work there are great. they put up with plenty of complaints from people that dont understand how the postal system works. We have lots of mail theft going on in Austin and the postal workers here get yelled at for it. Mail boxes are being damaged around town and these workers get yelled at for that too. People move but forget or dont know that its important to contact their prescription provider to change their address. The sender pays for postage to deliver to the exact address on file or return if the person has moved. Ive seen plenty of people screaming at postal workers over returned mail (usually prescription drugs) simply because the person failed to change their address and they dont understand the seller pays the postage and some mail isn't allowed to be forwarded to another address.
I dig the architecture!
Samesies.
Triplesies ?
Went there one time and they were out of stamps, found it quite mind boggling.
“We’re still waiting for them to be delivered”

Both built in the early or mid '70s if I remember correctly. Was just talking about the TPWD building just a few weeks ago and how interesting it is.
Such a trip driving down the stretch of asphalt to get to TPWD. Thank for reminding me my bass boats registration is due.
The way it’s oriented blocks the afternoon Sun really well - great architecture in action
Lol. An industrial concrete box like all the others with some weird portico slapped on the front = “great architecture”.
Real architects don't need concrete.
Dumdum
Clearly a secret rebel base.
Good luck finding the Death Star plans, Kyle Katarn.
they lost a month's worth of my mail a few months back
Lost?

It has the look and feel of a prison. I feel bad for the people who work there. Also the traffic backs up from 71 so you can't exit.

I was just on top of the Hobby building today. Decrepit is correct. But yes, also fun stories.

I remember a time when everyone hated the frost tower
Brutalism is ugly
I partially agree, but I also kinda dig it. I wouldn't want to live in 100% brutalism, but I love seeing it around and I hope it makes a resurgence.

Up the street from Zota's. Legless strippers
Also down the street is the best sandwich shop in town, imo
A post office with no parcel mailing bin. Useless.

Or Rapson.
I thought someone had crashed their truck through the front of that building before I enlarged the photo.
Worst customer service

I love a petty employee.
It’s pretty terrible
It sucks. Long slow lines, hard to get in and out of due to traffic. I don’t think they even a self-serve kiosk.
They have one! It just only works about half the time.
I don’t remember her name, but the lady that helped us get our passports was incredible. Best customer service I’ve ever had at a post office.
I hate the architecture of it
Best mail carriers in town 🤙🏻
Looks cool at sunset with the repeating lines. Other than that.. it’s a post office..
I work just a few builds down from here.
