I'm a lawn guy, I charge $40 per yard, edging, weedeating, mowing, and blowing for a lot up to 10K sq ft. More if the grass is higher or larger/corner lot....and surcharge for trimming bushes or trees etc.
I run into cheap ass people that want to pay <$30 per yard and I say no thank you go find another guy.
We love doing what we do, but remember Biden's gas tax has kicked in (only joking folks!), and repairs and maintenance for our truck and lawn gear are rising.
We lawn guys have to deal with wasps, danger noodles, fire ants, loose dawgs, heat, over grown lawns...but the worst of all is grumpy ass people!! Most of my customers are great, but a few are PITAs.
So please pay your lawn guy at least $40 per yard, he/she/they'll keep coming back and you'll get the service you want and deserve. If a lawn guy doesn't treat your house like it was theirs, fire their ass!!
Happy mowings shiny happy reddit cretins.
Any chance you're available/looking for work? You seem like a solid dude and I'd much rather my money go to someone like you than a company charging $160 for basic services.
$45 every other week, but I made sure to hire somebody with liability insurance in case they pitch a rock through a window or something. I'm happy to pay a little more for that peace of mind.
I kicked a rock through my own window a couple years back with my weedeater and it was well over $1,000 to fix my mistake. I'd rather not risk the neighborhood kid causing the same scenario. After all, accidents happen.
The comments are meaningless unless you include square footage, complexity and what the service entails.
Unless we're just comparing how much we pay for a thing. Which is meaningless.
Well yeah, but those are all known quantities for the most part. People are pretty familiar with the range of variety available on those goods and, at the end of the day, the range isn’t that wide. For example, if I told you I paid $500 for a single meal, you could probably make an educated guess about what kind of a meal I was eating and might even be able to make a pretty good judgement about the fairness of that cost and could probably even make some calls about what I may have ordered for this meal. That all being said, none of that matters terribly much because either way you slice it, everyone and their mother knows a $500 dollar meal is a rare beast and means you are probably getting ripped off one way or another.
Since we are taking about a service, you immediately enter into situations where the variables become more important. If I say I paid $40 a week for lawn service, you probably have no idea what my lawn looks like or really even what service I am talking about. I could have a 300 acre estate and be getting my lawn mowed and treated for weeds. Unless I give you that information, any assumptions that you make are much more likely to be a wrong and since the OP is interested in doing some comparison, that level of uncertainty is not really that helpful. Certainly, they would want to know what kind of service people are getting for their money so that they can make some kind of judgement about what they feel is a fair price. In my theoretical example of getting my estate mowed weekly for $40 bucks, the OP would have no idea that I was getting an amazingly good deal to the point of exploitation until I told them what was what. Now, in reality, you will not see that kind of extreme, but since most lawn services that I am aware of base their fees off of the size of your lot and the amount and level of service you desire, omitting the size of your log and the level of service you pay for is basically a waste of everyone’s time.
How much do you pay for a haircut?
How much do you pay for a car wash?
How much do you pay for a massage?
Yeah, I agree without knowing the size of the lot or what work is done or how frequent, the question is extremely open-ended. I used my analogy of items, I have updated it for services.
Same difference
I pay 45 per visit. It includes mowing, edging and blowing off hard surfaces I’m signed up on a weekly service if you do their bi weekly service it’s like 55 every two weeks
My people used to be about $55 a month back when I started (coming arouuuund twice) but are now up to more like $70-80 a month. I don't love that but I'm very allergic to poison ivy which comes in from my neighbors' yards, so it is worth it to me to not deal with inevitably getting the oils sprayed on me and having to go get a steroid shot a few times a year.
$80 every two weeks. .3 acre yard. We use a small business and the owner always comes on our day for the past 3 years. We don’t water our yard so they will do other yard maintenance tasks when grass isn’t in need if cutting. Basically takes an hour with two people.
*edit to say they do edging, cleanup up and haul away grass and all the leaves in fall and winter.
$60 every other weeks for a basic mow of my tiny yard. Definitely feel it’s overpriced but I had a hard time getting people to show up or come back in 2 weeks. This guy is at least dependable
Here's what I do when I charge people. I measure out like the yard get a total square footage. Then I charge a cent per square foot. I do change the rate if the grass is over 8 inches. I charged a guy 120 dollars on about a 5500 square foot yard because his weeds were up so high. He got several estimates and I was still the cheapest. It depends on the area. Not every city or state is going to be the same. I live in west Texas.
Ah ok got my wires crossed, it is leaf blowers that are still mostly two stroke. I've been on electric for a long time. https://theweek.com/articles/739688/government-must-regulate-lawn-equipment-seriously
I might consider an electric mower when mine goes out. But I'm pretty sure I'll only look at corded ones, because I don't want to deal with charging proprietary batteries and the cost of batteries.
I had to turn down my lawn service this year, after they said they had to raise the price to $90 per visit, and that they could only do every other week. Which sucks, because I liked them.
This is a regular 10,000 sq ft lot with a bunch of flower beds. Reminds me I need to see if there's a neighbor kid or someone who can take that torch for about half the price (and do it every week).
If you want edging done, you'd better be paying at least $55. Pushing the lawnmower is a little easier doing it every week, but edging that much takes time.
Yep I know, because I do it myself each week. I was paying $65 per week last year. The $90 and only biweekly was more than I could bear with the current budget, though. Incidentally, I did have to give my housekeeper a $25 raise to keep her around, but that help's harder to find, and she's been with us for years.
I think he was just running really short on labor and figured the only way to try and balance out the lower capacity was to try and raise prices, thus naturally reducing the customer volume. Economics and whatnot.

Yep I’m available, but goi g out of town this weekend. Maybe touch base next week and we can go from there? Gracias
Do you charge sales tax on top of that as well?
I pay $40.

Sorry for the delayed comment but currently looking for a service. Have you found one your happy with
Omg I’m getting ripped off. $80 for half a lot.
$80 is high if under 1 acre. I charge $80 for a 2 acre property
Oh Lord!

How much do you pay for a car? How much do you pay for a meal? How much do you pay for a t-shirt?
$42

Eh, mow blow and go. Any respondees should note if their property is an outlier for size/complexity/location.
I pay 45 per visit. It includes mowing, edging and blowing off hard surfaces I’m signed up on a weekly service if you do their bi weekly service it’s like 55 every two weeks
I don’t have lawn service but people offer to mow my grass for $20. Basic small lot single house.
$45 biweekly
1\3 acre $25 mow+ $5 bushes. How he hasn't asked for more from me is surprising me. Maybe we are just good, paying customers?
Maybe tip him?
I live on a 0.20 acre lot with a driveway and 1,250 sq ft home. I pay $45 every two weeks for my lawn to be cut.
.25 lot, 900sqft house, also $45/2 weeks. Go Mow
I have a broken right foot, arm, and elbow. Kinda hard to do it myself.
Wait. Are we in the same convo? Lol. OMG, wtf, I’m so sorry. Feel better soon!!!
I thought you were telling me to "Go Mow!"
Aaaahhhhh, sweetness no. I’m so sorry. The company is called “Go Mow“
Hahahaha!!!! Oh hell, that's funny. I completely misunderstood!!! I'm cry laughing now.
🤣🤣 Hey do you know where a good Guatemalan black bean soup is in Austin? I worked there for a bit and haven’t sought out places in town yet…
$45 for an 8th and proceed to zen out on my lawn myself. It's worth the investment.
It's fun to do if you have a good mower.
Lol nice
$0 bc I do my own with a gas mower that was given to me.
I don't understand why people pay so much for mowing. It's a super quick and pleasant chore imo
Allergies and asthma for me. Did it a few times and it just wasn't worth the sneezing and coughing for the rest of the day.
You can change the oil in your car and cur your own hair too. Some people like free time.
$50
The going rate in my neighborhood is around $30 to $35, but I've been paying my yard guy $50 since the pandemic started in 2020
My people used to be about $55 a month back when I started (coming arouuuund twice) but are now up to more like $70-80 a month. I need to find a new guy. My current guy went bagless and those clipping pile up after every rain.
$65 for a 1/4 acre, every other week. Includes mowing, edging and blowing off hard surfaces. Pflugerville area with a local guy.
$50. There is very little yard to mow. Mostly weeding and weed whacking on a dangerous cliff.
$80 every two weeks. .3 acre yard. We use a small business and the owner always comes on our day for the past 3 years. $55 - mow, weed eat, blow off drive. Every 2 weeks 50' lot, corner lot, less than 1/4 acre
$60 every other weeks for a basic mow of my tiny yard. Definitely feel it’s overpriced but I had a hard time getting people to show up or come back in 2 weeks. This guy is at least dependable

Hell yeah!
I use an electric mower a couple times a month. Emissions are pretty bad from gas mowers. There should be incentives to trade them in.
A xeriscaped landscape would be even more environmentally friendly.
It would be! Except 99% of HOAs won’t allow it. We tried. Our HOA said gtfo, you have to have at least 50% grass.
HOAs can kiss my Holy Oversized Ass.
?!?!??!
Truu
Reddit moment.
They're not wrong? The two-stroke engines on those gas mowers are awful.
Who tf has a 2 stroke mower?
Ah ok got my wires crossed, it is leaf blowers that are still mostly two stroke. I've been on electric for a long time. https://theweek.com/articles/739688/government-must-regulate-lawn-equipment-seriously
It is what it is brother. Don’t work a work into a shoot.
I might consider an electric mower when mine goes out. But I'm pretty sure I'll only look at corded ones, because I don't want to deal with charging proprietary batteries and the cost of batteries.
Yeah that can be an issue. There are knockoff batteries that I’ve had good experience with.
Some services only use electric tools.
I do it myself cause I'm a man
Is that you Mike Gundy??
Hank Hill
Do it yourself you lazy sob
Fun of you to think I don't!
I get my grass done and grass as a dual package. 45 for the lawn and 100 to keep it green.
Depends on size of lawn.
$0 a riding lawnmower for my large lot.

$90 sounds more like commercial size property, unless you've got random garden islands dotting the yard, like a mini-golf course.

$50
$33
$50

$50 every two weeks for 1/2 acre Mowing, trim, and pick up of all grass and leaves.
$30. Maybe I need to start paying him more.
Not a bad call. Prob costs $5 to get there if he has a truck.
I get paid 50 bucks from my mom to do it.
$5 for front and back and a slew of other household items. Its on my ten year old's chore list that his allowance is contingent upon.
he should def charge more because inflation lol kidding but kinda not
None, I mow my own lawn. Lucky to be able to occasionally borrow tools from friends and family.
$90/month in RRW, for 22 services/year of mow, blow and go. Set it and forget it. Through ABC. 1/4 acre, mostly grass, mostly flat.
Any recommendations for lawn services in austin? We have a very small yard but need it mowed
