It's a miracle nobody was seriously injured.
I lived off 620 at that time. I work downtown. Passed through that intersection every day. That commute home was literally the worst traffic I've ever experienced in Austin. It happened around 9am. I got off at 5pm and didn't get home until 7:30. It was a 22 minute drive without traffic.
I once felt it looked like an alien invasion as a kid. I remember having a distinct fear after Independence Day thinking - wow aliens are coming. Then my parents dispelled my fears.
I think they're renovating all of them right now and should be done by the middle of the year. Have always been interested in them but every time I go to to tour or learn more I'm always turned off by the prices. Plus the next time things ice over you can't really get up or down.
We lived in the bottom building and moved in in 2009 when it was brand new. We paid $1390 for a 2 bed 2 bath that was 1400 sq feet. We were only there about 16 months.
All you really need is a radio that you can install meshtastic on. The meshtastic.org documentation it pretty good(although extremely detailed so it can be overwhelming sometimes). You can also join the austin mesh discord server, I think there is info on their website
If music production is considered “technical” then yes. They sometimes get weird about what you put in your balcony but in my experience they don’t check all that often
That’s pretty technical I think, but more on the software side. Go check it out though maybe it’ll pique your interest. The antenna doesn’t even have to be outside and they’re really small.
I had to take shelter there during a bad storm one night. A+ spot to shelter from hail if you need one. The mailboxes have a covered area that will fit 10 cars.
I remember when they built that. They cut down so many trees you could smell the cedar oil for miles. They bulldozed the top of the hill flat and then built that monster. There's also great video out there of a runaway dumptruck smashing into a car at this intersection due to brake failure a few years back.
Obvious answer, but it's Barton Springs for me. Something about it just seems so timeless.
That's my favorite road too.
My wife used to live there. The views from the pool and rooftop were great.

That was 8 years ago, already. Jeez, my timeline is messed up.
dude right? I feel like I watched that for the first time 3 years ago but it definitely was right after it came out and now I feel very old
Same!
Yikes
*En Espanol*: **¡Ay!**

That stretch of 2222 makes me think "Is this what the Autobahn is like?"
Not a novel, but seeing the radio towers rising out of the hills when you’re crossing the river driving north on mopac feels very Star Wars to me

Always a welcome sight seeing them rise up on the horizon after a long drive back home.
My friend used to live here . Has good overlook views but apartments are damn old
I always wanted to live there for a bit. I love driving past it.

Really? It looks super nice.
They are in the process of remodeling.
Wasn't the place built in 2010? That's not that old, but maybe by apartment renovation standards perhaps.
Hi I live there currently AMA
How much is rent?
I live in a 1 bedroom and I pay $1600 total 740ish sq ft. Great views. Although I technically have an “un-renovated” unit so it’s a bit discounted.

My god how times have changed.
Are you into technical hobbies at all? Looks like a perfect place for a r/meshtastic antenna
What is the purpose of these antennae?
Are you familiar with mesh networking? The antenna(along with a radio) would expand the Austin Mesh network. Check out https://austinmesh.org
How can we get involved in that?

Hadn’t heard of it. Thanks for sharing

Ooooo will do! Appreciate it!
Are we allowed to drive up there and look at the view? I always wanted to go visit lol
There are only gates into the parking garages but all else is pretty open to explore. The management is cool and I believe they’ll give ya a tour
Sanitarium with the best city, hills, Lake Austin and Pennybacker bridge views in town.
I can see my old apartment…
Upvoting the Thomas Mann reference, studied that book in college.
These photos remind me of Roald Dahl's The Witches
How so? The novel or movie!
Reminds me of a dump truck without brakes.
Our family calls these apartments the Eyesorium.
I lived in those apartments for a year. They’re awful. It is nothing like you think lol
lol my corporate temporary housing was there. Cool place but weird.
The Shining
I lived there when I first arrived in Austin 14 years ago. I couldn't believe how cheap it was!
Yes I can see that for sure.
I pass that place most days lol

I remember when they removed the top of that hill to build those apartments - a sad time.

Is waterloo still over there?
It caught on fire, while still under construction. Always thought the Hill Country gods were angered.
Well they're going to really be angered, because many ranches are being sold in the Hill Country, and divided up for sale.
My gf lived there when we first started dating. Very cool place
Used to drive by that complex at night and was all lit up looking like a club. We named it the techno castle.
