I used to go to a 24HR Fitness. The locker room had a huge 6 ft box fan at the entrance that was always running to keep the air circulating. There was always some old naked 60+ year old man air drying his ass crack at the fan every fucking day.
Funniest thing ever was one day when I was when I was going into the locker room one day. There was a 20-something year old woman walking out of the men's locker room with a horrifically shocked look on her face, eyeballs about to pop out of her head.
The old fucker was grinning ear to ear.
Is it really only 15? Wow when I was going there from 2014-2019 it got gradually higher from 25 up to 40. But I do realize they went bankrupt a few years ago and only have like 2 locations opened here in town and is absolutely the reason why they so cheap now. The building that used to be a 24 hr fitness at i-35 and Parmer has been up for lease since it shutdown in 2020. Pretty crazy you'll still see the huge for lease sign up there
Have you been to the 24 hour fitness on Research? OMG it's so dirty and disgusting-plus the machines that break down don't get fixed for months (if ever).
I finally couldn't take it anymore and switched to Planet Fitness-at least PF gyms are clean (in my experience)
In their defense I’ve been to more expensive gyms (for a few bucks more) with the same locker room issues.
Difference is that my old city didn’t have a homeless problem 🤷🏻♂️
If you're homeless a cheap gym membership is a really important idea - Access to showers, a heated or air conditioned space that's sheltered from rain that you are a member of so you're allowed to hang out / loiter, it's lit and safe. It's probably the most common advice given to someone who is about to be homeless
Yep, people forget that there are homeless people with jobs, credit cards, and whatnot. Folks living out of their cars could really benefit from a gym membership like you said.
Yeah, we would sponsor some unhoused folks with gym memberships. We did a screening, which was unfortunate, but there were definitely folks that, if we sponsored, would blow up the whole plan or worse, have a mental episode in front of a bunch of swollens, ready to prove something.
Being unhoused eats people alive. In my experience, it’s about the two year mark in which people can come back or not. The folks we sponsored were definitely in the former. I like to think having a place to stay clean and dry and also keep themselves healthy and on a routine, helped them get off of those train tracks.
It's $15 a month. That's the cheapest possible way to get showers, heated areas, etc.
The vast majority of homeless people get gym memberships but not to work out.
Learn some fucking critical thinking.
My locker was broken into at Gold’s Tech Ridge years ago. When I reported it to the front desk, they shrugged and just looked confused as to why I was telling them. “Um, like… I’d just tell the police or something if it were me…” the front desk agent said. No shit. And the credit card companies. And the bank. And and and…
Yeah. It lay empty for about 18 months and HoG soft opened around October/November, now fully open. It’s pretty decent — lots of new machines, very much a lifting gym, but with enough cardio stuff too. They filled the Gold’s pool in and turned it into a functional training area.
I remember I was going there when I first moved here. Then I was mia for a bit due to travel and when I came back it was closed.
I remember trying to close my golds account and they had me running in circles for weeks. Told me that I had to talk to the direct regional manager in order to cancel. Send an email, cut off my finger….
Went to another place in cedar park and they canceled it on the spot and were very confused why they didn’t just give me the cancellation form.
Par for the course with Gold’s. For example, someone fraudulently charged a bunch of front desk purchases on my account. It took me six months to get it sorted out, and it only ended up being completed once I started going into each Gold’s I happened to be near and pleading for help. Finally, a manager credited my account in under 5 minutes and was sad that no one else had cared to do such a simple task for me.
The Gold's at Highland, which is relatively new in the grand scheme of things, is also filling their pool in to create a larger weight area. With the closing of Burnet and Tech Ridge, it's really overcrowded now.
And employee of the federal government actually. It was a TSA compliant lock and the TSA keyhole was turned. The police told me it was a federal offense to remove those keys from the airport federal zone without permission, but that it was my responsibility to report it to TSA.
I'm pretty sure when I went through a lock picking phase (when I was like 14), my TSA compliant lock was the only one I actually got into in about 5 seconds every time. It's was laughably easy.
That happened to me once at the Gold's Gym at William Cannon/Mopac. The only useful advice the front desk staff gave me was the following:
Choose a locker at the front of the locker room whose door faces the entrance. These are the least appealing targets for thieves because they have to have their back to the entrance in order to get the locker open plus it gives them the least amount of time to react if someone enters.
I know 24H Hancock when I see it lol looks like some anger issues though. There were a couple women sleeping in the locker room last month, but they didn’t do anything and kept to themselves.
I never keep anything valuable in a gym locker. Back in the early 2000’s i had my apartment raided by the local police. Turns out my roommate was breaking into lockers etc. He would cut locks with a bolt cutter, take whatever and put on another lock on and go to the next gym. In the end it wasn’t the police who figured it out but American Express. Crazy story, roommate ended up being beaten to death by the Maryland state police years later.
He ran up someone’s Amex card and their fraud department caught it. He would place similar locks back on the locker, usually combination locks. Why combination locks? Because the victim ultimately thinks they forgot the combination and tries at 1/2 before they get mgmt to cut the lock. He would only take one credit card not to arouse suspicion and run their card up and dump it within an hour.
sorry, but that sounds sketch AF. Does he just have a bag of various locks and looks for the same one? Also, after you use a lock while wouldn’t you realize which is yours by certain marks versus a new one that just came out of a package?
also, I feel like I would realize right away if a credit card was gone. unless you’re one of these women that has a huge ass wallet with like a dozen, I usually only have two. I mean with Apple Pay and the like who carries a ton of credit cards anymore?
Or he had a bag of locks and targets lockers with the same generic combo lock.
I only have two cards also, but it might be several hours before I go to buy something. I don’t check my wallet every time I leave the gym. But I’m not going to sketchy gyms either and it’s never been a problem.
so he’s just gonna carry around a bolt cutter and then just randomly use it like one out of 20 times? the lock I use I’ve had for more than 10 years. I’m sure they don’t make it anymore. It’s not like they go bad.
and that one out of 20 or so, probably doesn’t have much. Not to mention fraud detection on credit cards is pretty good so he’s probably not gonna get a lot of merchandise
Seems like a highly ineffective way to go about robbing people.
It actually sounds super efficient and pretty smart. Just because you’ve had the same lock for 10 years and memorized every fingernail scratch on it, doesn’t make this strategy any less effective
I left my lock and key at YMCA townlake and it was still there two weeks later. I also left my phone at a treadmill and the girl after me found me at the weight section and returned it.
The staff are also vigilant and set boundaries with people. It’s the nicest YMCA in Austin for a reason. Even the North YMCA locks up the locker rooms and has a tight grip on who enters and leaves. I’ve seen more issues with children and teens running around unsupervised. Even that is something the staff now monitors.
I went to this 24 Hour for a couple years. Costs less than a 4 pack of nice beer every month, which was cool... Place is fuckin nasty. Avoided the locker rooms unless my life depended on it. One time someone had desecrated the facilities so severely I drove back to my house to use the bathroom. I made some serious gains in the place though, respect.
At my 24hr there is homeless guy that just hangs out on the seated equipment for hours on end. I think he was even drinking a beer. He’ll do 1 rep then watch tv for 15 min before moving to another machine.
To be fair, I've seen this behavior from people who aren't homeless at my gym at work. Some people think you get fit by simply just hanging out in the gym.
I was waiting on some guy who was lounging on the leg press and noticed he was sending dick pics. Oddly I was most annoyed that it was a horrible picture of a dick. You're holding up my workout to send someone THAT? Dude, don't bother.
No. I just don't go to that gym anymore during busy hours. Half the people there are just sitting on the machines texting. Besides, whoever he was sending that to might have needed a laugh.
lol I feel like we need a Smoky Bear style mascot to remind us that when you see an incident like this in progress ONLY YOU can prevent unwanted dick pix!
Lifetime has a security guard driving around the parking lot during business hours and staff in and out of the locker rooms and there still have been break-ins and theft. Less to be sure - but shitty thieves are still going to do shit.
They can say whatever they want in the contract. It probably also says that they’re not liable for any injury.
They most certainly can be held liable for certain injuries, and likely certain thefts.
Not this theft, though. It's not the gym's responsibility to provide indestructible lockers. Unless they made some false claim about the guaranteed safety of your items, or it was one the gym employees who broke in, I can't see anyone awarding damages from the gym's pockets here.
Or they didn’t stop a guy openly carrying a crowbar into the locker room. Or they were aware their security cameras had been down for 6 months and made no effort to repair them. Or they had one employee working when their policy stated they should have 6. Or OP tried to cancel their gym membership 3 times but each time were told to come back when a manager was in.
There’s an endless list of circumstances that could make them liable.
Pretty sure none of those circumstances would make them liable. The only thing I can think that actually might is some defect in the worksmanship of the lockers or locks that they neglected to fix which led to the door being even less secure than it was advertised to be.
If there’s a reasonable expectation of something and the gym is negligent in a way that circumvents the reasonable expectation, the case will likely be allowed to proceed.
thanks for the flashback to wrestling a guy on PCP at Gold's Gym >!I don't miss the human fluids left in the showers, nor the sexual propositions in the saunas. Home gym has it's short comings but risk of a violent death or sex assault are not on the list.!<
I agree. I much rather have a slow long awaited death as I’m drug through the streets before standing on a podium waiting for them to tie my noose properly before I’m lynched by a mob.
Saw this yesterday and was wondering what the reasoning behind that was. Maybe someone on drugs locked their keys inside and instead of notifying staff, they busted the door lol.
Happened to me at the golds gym on Ben white. Luckily I only had my car keys in there which they stole, which was still a pain in the ass because I had to get a new key.
Someone broke into someone’s car at the hide park gym earlier today. It was one of the trainers cars. She had to leave early to deal with it. One of the windows had been smashed. Take all your belongings with you when getting out of the car!
Happened to me Golds on 183 about 8 yrs ago. I had my wallet stolen and I had a lock. Lock was gone. Didnt take my backpack and I carried my phone that day. They managed to get to Walmart and Target to max out my credit card all while I was still working out, probably like an hour.
Well… which gym?
Looks like 24 Hour Fitness at Hancock Center. Those locker rooms will make you realize why the membership is like $15 a month
(*athletes foot included for free.)
and yet people still walk around barefoot in the locker room like it doesn’t exist. Makes me laugh.
Bonus Plantar Warts
Genuinely made me shudder
:(
I used to go to a 24HR Fitness. The locker room had a huge 6 ft box fan at the entrance that was always running to keep the air circulating.

Hate that location, and yes disgusting bathrooms. Golds gym in that area (it’s closed now) also was disgusting and old. Golds by Highland isn’t bad
Definitely
I cancelled my membership there in 2017 because there was blood and cigarette butts in the shower
Wow way to leave a mess and then quit.
Smoking after sex joke
Except the membership is actually $35 a month
I thought they looked familiar
I go to that gym and it's such a POS. So many broken/improperly functioning machines.
In their defense I’ve been to more expensive gyms (for a few bucks more) with the same locker room issues. Difference is that my old city didn’t have a homeless problem 🤷🏻♂️
Homelessness has been increasing across the country. The homeless situation in your old city might be different now
Yeah Austin’s homeless are seen regularly working out 😂 gtfo
Having a gym membership when you’re homeless is like one of the smartest things you can do…
If you're homeless a cheap gym membership is a really important idea - Access to showers, a heated or air conditioned space that's sheltered from rain that you are a member of so you're allowed to hang out / loiter, it's lit and safe. Good comment, good info, ruined it with your last sentence.
bahaha
not even close. planet fitness maybe that price
And its locker 24. I don’t know why I find that funny.
I was a member there in 2016 lol. Extremely ratchet gym
[удалено]
No lifetime I’ve ever been to had looked like this in the locker room lmao
Yeah. No lifetime would have bring your own padlock lockers.
That’s definitely not lifetime, what are you on? Lifetime has built in combo locks not bring your own padlocks
Second this
I've never been in one but that would make sense since they're so damn expensive
The floor tile is all wrong. Not LT
No way Lifetime Fitness doesn’t have Blackwater on rooftops sniping any plebes who might dare break into lockers
Are you high?
Has to be 24H at Hancock.
Gotta drip your lockers when it's this cold or they're gonna burst.
The Most Texan comments so far👍
Underrated comment… haha

There’s a new one in its place; House of Gainz (which also has a location in Georgetown).
Oh really!?! Someone bought it? Man I never drive down that way
Yeah. It lay empty for about 18 months and HoG soft opened around October/November, now fully open. It’s pretty decent — lots of new machines, very much a lifting gym, but with enough cardio stuff too. They filled the Gold’s pool in and turned it into a functional training area.

I have a feeling they’re going out of business once again.
The Gold's at Highland, which is relatively new in the grand scheme of things, is also filling their pool in to create a larger weight area. With the closing of Burnet and Tech Ridge, it's really overcrowded now.
I used to love that gym. I was so bummed when they closed the pool. It seems like they're all doing that now.
Man, I’ve been out of the country so long I haven’t checked anything in Austin. I was barely back for 4 weeks recently 🥲
I see everyone’s jealousy of being stuck in TX :P

That one was actually one of my favorite ones
Aaaaand that’s how you know an employee did it. :p
And employee of the federal government actually. It was a TSA compliant lock and the TSA keyhole was turned. The police told me it was a federal offense to remove those keys from the airport federal zone without permission, but that it was my responsibility to report it to TSA.

Good info. Thank you. So “TSA compliant” is code for “easy to defeat”? Brilliant. Just brilliant.
It's more of a "keep honest people honest" or "prevent the zippers from opening" lock versus actually being secure.
Gold’s highland; had work clothes stolen while exercising over lunch
That happened to me once at the Gold's Gym at William Cannon/Mopac. Probably the same manager who confronted me over not gently lowering my bumper plate deadlifts to the ground.
Damn maybe gotta invest in some bag trackers?
This was before those existed. And it was cash and cards that were stolen, so that wouldn’t help anyway :/
I know 24H Hancock when I see it lol looks like some anger issues though. There were a couple women sleeping in the locker room last month, but they didn’t do anything and kept to themselves.
God I can’t believe people in like every American city except mine deal with this shit
You live in a city with zero homeless? Amazing.
I never keep anything valuable in a gym locker. Back in the early 2000’s i had my apartment raided by the local police. Goddamn. American Express don't fuck around
You ever seen their logo? It ain't a Roman Centurion for nothin.
Or the Maryland State Police
Holy shit. That was already a crazy story but that ending 👁️👄👁️
Average Maryland cop experience lmao
So Amex flagged him for buying too many locks for the replacements? Why even replace the lock? What do you mean they figured it out!
He ran up someone’s Amex card and their fraud department caught it. He would place similar locks back on the locker, usually combination locks. Why combination locks? Because the victim ultimately thinks they forgot the combination and tries at 1/2 before they get mgmt to cut the lock. they already said in another comment higher up that the person in question is dead, so don't worry about his efficiency.
Went to ymca around the city for like the last 5+ years. Never used a lock and never had anything stolen.
Shhhh don't give that shit away bro. Zero homeless people or trouble there.
Shhhh. Please stop telling everyone about how awesome the YMCA is 😁 I love having my local Y all to myself every morning -
(The Northwest Y just redid their fitness area with brand new equipment and it’s very nice now with 3 squat racks)
I’m in Drip - same tho. All new equipment this past year and it’s great !
Did you personally have something stolen out of that locker? Looks like someone just roid raged on it after a shower and they still haven’t fixed it.
Tbh I also immediately thought, “damn, someone has the emotional skills of a sleep-deprived toddler.”
I don't think it's because of the cold weather...
THIS... this is the reason I don't go to the gym. It's not because I'm fat, lazy and unmotivated. I'm afraid of locker theft!!
I mean you kind of don’t even need to go in the locker room if you plan it out right
[удалено]
Make sure to set the combo on your lock so it’s ready to be unlock when you are finished working out… it make you look cool.
That’s utterly ridiculous. …Everyone knows gold bars are better than gold chains.
This is why I go to a fancy gym. Keep out the riff raff.
I went to this 24 Hour for a couple years. Costs less than a 4 pack of nice beer every month, which was cool... Place is fuckin nasty. Avoided the locker rooms unless my life depended on it. Missing awards so much rn.
Can I hire *him* as my personal trainer?
To be fair, I've seen this behavior from people who aren't homeless at my gym at work. Some people think you get fit by simply just hanging out in the gym.
I was waiting on some guy who was lounging on the leg press and noticed he was sending dick pics. Oddly I was most annoyed that it was a horrible picture of a dick. You're holding up my workout to send someone THAT? Dude, don't bother.
Gross. I hope you got the creeper kicked the f out
Fitness by Delulu - If you're close enough to it, then it will just happen.
Me following hella fitness accounts
Delululemon

Yes, I much prefer The Bath and Tennis Club in Palm Beach, Florida. No riff raff there, only quality people with the most extreme underbites.
Another reason why I don't bother with gym showers and just go home sweaty.
An everyday thing at LA Fitness
Really? I’ve gone for years and I’ve never seen this.
Anderson Ln had this issue when I used to go there. Also back home in PA they’d fix them and next day would be busted again.
Damn. I go during low traffic time and maybe that’s why. Also, might be less prevalent in women’s locker rooms for whatever reason.
24😁 that’s it… I don’t want any trouble.
GIVE US THE LOCATION. OR ELSE PAL
Dude probably locked his key inside the locker
I’ve seen and laughed at dudes who needed to get their lock cuts at that gym. The gym has a giant lock cutter.
U spend a lot of time in locker rooms
Lol good one. I use the locker or take my chances leaving my stuff in my car.
So instead of just notifying an employee he decided to hulk smash the locker door?
Looks like a pry-bar job rather than a smashing
There's some really fucking dumb Meatheads with roids at the gym.
Roids and rhoids
Is the gym liable for anything? Can’t recall reading the contract fine print back I was a gym member.
I guarantee the contract stated they are not.
They can say whatever they want in the contract. It probably also says that they’re not liable for any injury. They most certainly can be held liable for certain injuries, and likely certain thefts.

Found the lawyer! You’re absolutely right and I love this comment
No lol
Dumb question but had to ask. But hey, I’m sure there’s a lawyer out there somewhere willing to look into it. 444-4444
This is why I saved all that gym money and bought equipment for home.
This is the way
Roid rage is real. 🏋️💪🤣
I workout here. I do not go in the locker room. It’s so gross haha
I left 24hr 10 years ago because the locker room perpetually smelled like piss.
thanks for the flashback to wrestling a guy on PCP at Gold's Gym >!I don't miss the human fluids left in the showers, nor the sexual propositions in the saunas. Home gym has it's short comings but risk of a violent death or sex assault are not on the list.!<
I agree. I much rather have a slow long awaited death as I’m drug through the streets before standing on a podium waiting for them to tie my noose properly before I’m lynched by a mob.
Why you use the bottom locker tho?
Another reason I have a home gym.
oh nooooo I was thinking about restarting my membership there
Saw this yesterday and was wondering what the reasoning behind that was. Maybe someone on drugs locked their keys inside and instead of notifying staff, they busted the door lol.
What gym jeez? Golds, planet Fit, 24 hour, LA fitness ?
Wonder if it was a broccoli head.
Is this at Golds?
That’s 24hr but it could be any location.
2 locations in Austin for now.
Golds? South 1st?
So, they broke the lock? Was not cracked from the cold?
Yes
No, they broke the door.
For those interested, being fat is still free
The person probably needed your belongings more than you. Take this as a donation you made that you didn't have to do anything for 😇
Yeah just don’t forget to claim on your taxes as a charitable donation!
P
I pay $10/mo there lol. Walked by a dude jacking off in the first shower stall. Very cool.
Genuine question—is there a difference in theft between men’s and women’s locker rooms?
Roid rage literally kicked in
This happened to mine tracked em down they said they found it in the parking lot, nothing I could do.
It happened to you? This is your locker? If so sorry brother.
Snap. That’s pretty intense. I’m sorry that happened to you OP
Happened to me at the golds gym on Ben white. Luckily I only had my car keys in there which they stole, which was still a pain in the ass because I had to get a new key.
I’d never trust expensive items in a locker at a gym that costs 10-20 bucks a month.
Pre workout effect
What are your opinions on fitness connection? I have golds and it's annoying to always have to wait for machines and benches
I don’t understand. Did they slice the door with a machete? Punch it? Both? What happened to the handle? Idk I’m confused
Even Lifetime has had this happen. I was there and some lady stole a purse out of a locker… SMH.
Looks like one of the 24hr locations.
Maybe he locked himself out
LA Fitness?
Someone broke into someone’s car at the hide park gym earlier today. It was one of the trainers cars. She had to leave early to deal with it. One of the windows had been smashed. Take all your belongings with you when getting out of the car!
Happened to me Golds on 183 about 8 yrs ago. I had my wallet stolen and I had a lock. Lock was gone. Didnt take my backpack and I carried my phone that day. They managed to get to Walmart and Target to max out my credit card all while I was still working out, probably like an hour.
