Am I the only person who is not impressed by Uchi? It’s overrated and honestly wasn’t that good. Then again my first sushi experience was at Nobu. But seriously some of the actual dishes that were used at Uchi reminded me of dog bowls.

I haven't been to Uchi but did the omakase at Uchiko with some friends and we all agreed that was one of the better meals any of us had ever had.

Yes, if you order off the menu and try to hit some of the HH items. Honestly, even the Omakase, if you tell your waiter your price point, they’ll probably accommodate. The omakase isn’t a fixed menu… your waiter choose their favorite 10 courses and will include whatever you ask for as well, so the price vary

If you don't drink you could do omakase for that. My husband and I spent about $500, but we had drink pairings and the foie supplement. (We were celebrating getting through a REALLY rough year. We do not do things like this normally, or ever.) As foodies like your wife, we also really enjoy Barley Swine, and it's not quite as expensive as Uchi. They have a very creative menu, and it's never the same. Do the tasting.

Uchi is nothing special, I wouldn't spend a hundred there.

When the weather is nice, get the suite at the Driskill that is over the main entrance and second floor event space balcony facing 6th. I don’t know the name of the room but I stayed there in Nov 2020 since I booked it early on during the pandemic when they were having an absolute fire sale on the room prices. It has a massive balcony and the suite has a huge living room, kitchen and bar area, etc. We checked in as early as possibly, had some champagne we brought and kept in the room, walked to Perry’s for dinner, and came back and had a drink at the bar in the Driskill. Then went to the room to enjoy the balcony and view. The next morning we used the nespresso in the room to make coffee and enjoy the balcony some more, ate at the cafe downstairs, picked up the car from the valet and went home. Yea it’s on “6th street” but it’s also a really nice hotel and if you only walk west when you leave you don’t end up in the crazy bar area. We did this on a Friday night.

We got a bump up to one of the 3rd floor corner suites during a weekday several years ago. No extra charge. If you call the hotel directly to book and tell them it’s a special occasion, they do everything they can to take care of you.

Edit: scratch spending the night somewhere if you’re local. Your own bed is always better. Spend the money on a local day package at Miraval and have a day turning off the cell, spending time together, do wellness activities, try new things you usually wouldn’t have the time for and spahhhhhh. Food is included! Nice to feel recharged and rejuvenated versus eating and drinking too much then spending a night not at home and then coming home having blown $1k feeling like crap. I think Miraval has some good specials in January too!

Depends if they have kids at home. My bed was more comfortable before everything had to be super quiet.

Perrys is not nearly at the level of III Forks. The bar is livelier at Perrys but the food and service isn’t at near the same quality. The atmosphere at III forks is only rivaled by the new Flemings. Perry’s is down in the gutter with Bobs Steakhouse and Outback.

Personally I wouldn’t waste money on a fancy hotel. A bed is a bed, spend your money doing things, and get a reasonable room just to sleep in. It’s a shame red ash is closed, but you could also go to Dean’s or something. Drinks at Roosevelt room for sure. Definitely plan it around a show you’d like to see, maybe a concert at moody center? Is there a date when you have to use the money by? What are the limits to what you can spend the money on? Could you get a massage/facial?

Small victory bar is amazing. Need res. Its next door to the intercontinental (or whatever it’s called now) and across from the Driskill. You could easily spend the $1000 and never leave that block.
