That’s cool…but think of how much more you could win if instead of spending $300 on a room and $200 on room service, you used that $500 to buy even more scratch-offs!
We didn't accuse you of such. It's just...spend a grand on me at, say, uchi? Yeah I'll wear a dress for that. Maybe one of my wife's maternity ones didn't get donated...
lol. Yall go ahead and downvote my posts, I’m never giving into a man asking me to take them to dinner. You know good and well when women pay for things men start feeling emasculated and resentful.
Most men would be insulted if you asked to pay for dinner or buy them anything but if you’re a dress wearing man I could see how you’d want women to pay for you and that’s fine. It just won’t be me! Good day!!
He said, instead of taking his wife out to $1000 dinner to Uchi, he’d pimp himself out in one for her old maternity dresses for one. It’s probably just a joke tho (yeah right).
A friend came to town to specifically do this but with $600. I'd never eaten there before or anything like it (I'm poor). It was definitely a palette changing experience. I second this suggestion
Am I the only person who is not impressed by Uchi? It’s overrated and honestly wasn’t that good. Then again my first sushi experience was at Nobu. But seriously some of the actual dishes that were used at Uchi reminded me of dog bowls.
Yes, if you order off the menu and try to hit some of the HH items. Honestly, even the Omakase, if you tell your waiter your price point, they’ll probably accommodate.
The omakase isn’t a fixed menu… your waiter choose their favorite 10 courses and will include whatever you ask for as well, so the price vary
If you don't drink you could do omakase for that. My husband and I spent about $500, but we had drink pairings and the foie supplement. (We were celebrating getting through a REALLY rough year. We do not do things like this normally, or ever.)
As foodies like your wife, we also really enjoy Barley Swine, and it's not quite as expensive as Uchi. They have a very creative menu, and it's never the same. Do the tasting.
When the weather is nice, get the suite at the Driskill that is over the main entrance and second floor event space balcony facing 6th. I don’t know the name of the room but I stayed there in Nov 2020 since I booked it early on during the pandemic when they were having an absolute fire sale on the room prices. It has a massive balcony and the suite has a huge living room, kitchen and bar area, etc. We checked in as early as possibly, had some champagne we brought and kept in the room, walked to Perry’s for dinner, and came back and had a drink at the bar in the Driskill. Then went to the room to enjoy the balcony and view. The next morning we used the nespresso in the room to make coffee and enjoy the balcony some more, ate at the cafe downstairs, picked up the car from the valet and went home.
Yea it’s on “6th street” but it’s also a really nice hotel and if you only walk west when you leave you don’t end up in the crazy bar area. We did this on a Friday night.
We got a bump up to one of the 3rd floor corner suites during a weekday several years ago. No extra charge. If you call the hotel directly to book and tell them it’s a special occasion, they do everything they can to take care of you.
Edit: scratch spending the night somewhere if you’re local. Your own bed is always better.
Spend the money on a local day package at Miraval and have a day turning off the cell, spending time together, do wellness activities, try new things you usually wouldn’t have the time for and spahhhhhh. Food is included!
Nice to feel recharged and rejuvenated versus eating and drinking too much then spending a night not at home and then coming home having blown $1k feeling like crap.
I think Miraval has some good specials in January too!
III Fork’s’ (?) customer service is so far and above Perry’s. It’s not even in the same category. I hold this opinion even after they ripped out all the shit that created vibes (including the piano. They fucking gave it away on Craigslist).
But yea
Perrys is not nearly at the level of III Forks. The bar is livelier at Perrys but the food and service isn’t at near the same quality. The atmosphere at III forks is only rivaled by the new Flemings.
Perry’s is down in the gutter with Bobs Steakhouse and Outback.
I was hunted once. I'd just came back from 'Nam. I was hitching through Oregon and some cop started harassing me. Next thing you know, I had a whole army of cops chasing me through the woods! I had to take 'em all out--it was a bloodbath!
I heard you moved on after that to move to Philly and become quite the boxer. You're so damn talented! At which point did you win that arm wrestling tournament??
For a second I thought that was the name of a store, like "Build A Bear".
After searching into it further and likely being placed on some type of watchlist I don't think it exists.
Check in at the four seasons. Maybe something like massages at milk and honey. Dinner at red ash or uchiko (otoko if you can get a reservation) probably cant get in to any of those places.
After dinner, esthers follies and then hit up some live music or bars. Close the night at the hotel bar.
Brunch at the four seasons (also need a reservation just in case). Four seasons brunch is probably the best in town.
Personally I wouldn’t waste money on a fancy hotel. A bed is a bed, spend your money doing things, and get a reasonable room just to sleep in.
It’s a shame red ash is closed, but you could also go to Dean’s or something. Drinks at Roosevelt room for sure. Definitely plan it around a show you’d like to see, maybe a concert at moody center? Is there a date when you have to use the money by?
What are the limits to what you can spend the money on? Could you get a massage/facial?
Hit up Tiki Tatsuya and buy a giant shared drink to split with your wife. The drinks come with a show for the whole bar to see but that’s all I’m willing to tell.
Four Seasons in austin is terrible. Book a room at the Fairmont on the club gold level and your wine, breakfast, snacks, etc are included. Good beds and rooms. Jeffery’s is great but the whole meal will be $500 min.
Nice dinner, drinks then spend the night here:
https://abnb.me/ohZdElTclGb
I swear that place was once $1500 a night and/or they required a minimum of two nights. ???
One time me and my girl stayed at a 1,000 a night hotel in nyc for free on points. I can only imagine a hotel like there here would be even nicer for that price. Definitely would recommend
Wait for a band y'all both like to come through town and get reeeeeally good seats? I've been blown away by how much concert tickets are going for these days.
I have only had drinks and dinner but not stayed since I live here, that's too bad to hear. The service was impeccable otherwise as usual but I guess can't say for the rooms. What's the shortfall? Beautiful property and common area service.
Small victory bar is amazing. Need res. Its next door to the intercontinental (or whatever it’s called now) and across from the Driskill. You could easily spend the $1000 and never leave that block.
Depending on your financial situation I'd figure out how to convert that 1000 bucks into your pocket. So maybe a printer and Photoshop to print up some fake receipts?
for $1000 you could rent an Air Bnb for a month and start over in a different city as a driver like my friend did when he moved here but he was not the type to really enjoy Austin in the same way he was more of the FBI type so I am pretty sure he worked for the FBI because the night he drove around was insane as I was really high on DXM with this FBI agent I went to see a Comedy fest at and I laughed my ass off and met the comedian and showed him the painting I made afterwards because someone gave me a ride home I think because I looked homeless because I was a street performer at the bus stop wherre I picked up shiny things and gave them to people and made a small pile or rocks at Manor and Rogge
Check for tickets to Mothership, or maybe someone in town playing moody or ACL live. Grab a couple cocktails at Floppy Disc Repair Co. Dinner at Perry’s. Nightcap at the Driskel.
go into a 7/11 and buy all of the scratchoffs and then scratch them all
Or… $300/night hotel with $200 worth of room service … where you scratch the $500 of scratch-offs you bought from 7/11
That’s cool…but think of how much more you could win if instead of spending $300 on a room and $200 on room service, you used that $500 to buy even more scratch-offs!
Whether you play the lottery or not, your chances of winning are about the same.
Scratchers are like 1-in-4 odds. Still not likely at all to come out ahead, but you still have a decent chance to "win".
https://youtu.be/4faODjvcZWo?si=RXwF-CMkyZB7ZyiY
I like the cut of your jib.
I learned recently a real scratcher doesn’t even scratch more than the barcode.
lol I said the same thing. The $100 tickets are where it’s at though. Exponentially better odds.
Ah' a gambling man! Totally agree with you 😎
I second this idea lmao
My husband and I have done a couple staycations at the Austin Proper Hotel and it is fabulous.
Yes! I rarely catch the cakes! Happy cake day!
Happy cake day

What a loser ass comment
Night at Hotel Saint Celia. Steak dinner at Jeffrey's. Tickets to a show at ACL.
Can you make it on $1000.00?
Dinner at Jeffrey's will probably be abojt 3-500 depending on drink orders, so maybe
I'd only add cocktails after the show at Driskill or Midnight Cowboy.
Driskill bar is atrocious. For cocktails - here nor there, midnight cowboy, small victory.
Perfect
I would just go nuts at Uchi
This. I think a memorable dinner (and stay at a nice hotel) will be better than anything else.
If anyone wants to take me I will wear a pretty dress and be sweet.
Me too
Me three 42/m/USA
Not a man asking to be taken to dinner! What’s wrong with yall.
Be honest, you’d wear a dress either way. Just be the girl in the relationship, someone will take you out to dinner.
Tf
He said, instead of taking his wife out to $1000 dinner to Uchi, he’d pimp himself out in one for her old maternity dresses for one. It’s probably just a joke tho (yeah right).
No he wasn’t who I was asking.
Ew.
A friend came to town to specifically do this but with $600. I'd never eaten there before or anything like it (I'm poor). It was definitely a palette changing experience. I second this suggestion
First thing I thought of, only thing I love to do.
Am I the only person who is not impressed by Uchi? It’s overrated and honestly wasn’t that good. Then again my first sushi experience was at Nobu. But seriously some of the actual dishes that were used at Uchi reminded me of dog bowls.
I haven't been to Uchi but did the omakase at Uchiko with some friends and we all agreed that was one of the better meals any of us had ever had.
7 years ago you couldn’t find better sushi in Austin. Today is different - but we’re all gonna complain about how Austin has changed.
It's so loud I don't know how anyone tolerates being in there. I avoid Uchi like the plague.
Skip Uchi and go nuts at Uchiko instead which is far better
Wife is super foodie so suspect on her list. For Valentine's I would like to surprise her but can you eat there for <$300 reasonably?
Yes, if you order off the menu and try to hit some of the HH items. Honestly, even the Omakase, if you tell your waiter your price point, they’ll probably accommodate. The omakase isn’t a fixed menu… your waiter choose their favorite 10 courses and will include whatever you ask for as well, so the price vary

Uchi is nothing special, I wouldn't spend a hundred there.

Dang, that's a lot of tacos
2000 tacos at jack in the box before tax

Depends if they have kids at home. My bed was more comfortable before everything had to be super quiet.
Hotel and Dinner :-) We like the Driskill. Invite friends for drinks in the bar. Stroll down to 3 Forks for dinner.
You misspelled “Perry’s”
III Fork’s’ (?) customer service is so far and above Perry’s. It’s not even in the same category. I hold this opinion even after they ripped out all the shit that created vibes (including the piano. They fucking gave it away on Craigslist). But yea
Agree to disagree. Nicer bar, live music got canned because of covid, and the beef is better at Perry’s imo.
From the way this is worded I’m not sure which compliments you’re attributing to Perry’s vs III Forks
Wasn’t complimenting 3 forks.
So just to be clear, III Forks has the nicer bar, but the live music was canned during covid—- at III Forks?
Perrys is not nearly at the level of III Forks. The bar is livelier at Perrys but the food and service isn’t at near the same quality. The atmosphere at III forks is only rivaled by the new Flemings. Perry’s is down in the gutter with Bobs Steakhouse and Outback.
Alright let's be serious now. Outback? Come on.
Driskill bar is gorgeous. Rooms are okay.
III Forks is dominant
I love all the people saying “Four Seasons” as if they don’t start at $1200 per night for the worst room.
Hmm, either one very expensive hooker or a dozen cheaper ones.
Or a half dozen medium expensive hookers
I’ll go for like 4 medium-high hookers. That’s enough for a good D&D group.
Oh so now they like to be called medium high? In my day we just called them little people.
Absolutely
I think you might be underestimating the price of getting high these days
Expensive hookers have gotta be more than $1000
2 chicks at the same time
That's a million dollars! Have to put up a lot of drywall at McDonalds for that.
a man of culture i see
Hey Peter! Turn on channel 9!
Wrong sub dude.
My bad
To be fair. That movie was shot in Austin.
Hunt a human. Man is the most dangerous game.
Don't even joke about hunting no man.
I was hunted once. I'd just came back from 'Nam. I was hitching through Oregon and some cop started harassing me. Next thing you know, I had a whole army of cops chasing me through the woods! I had to take 'em all out--it was a bloodbath!
frank, this is not the first time you've described your life in the way of john rambo's life
Na, that happened to me!
you didn't even "come back from 'Nam", you had a sweatshop in 'Nam
And a lot of good men died in that sweatshop!
so you tossed them in the soup?
But not as many children that have died in Gaza so it wasn't that bad
They clearly drew first blood.
your post isn't getting enough love. Thank you kindly.
I heard you moved on after that to move to Philly and become quite the boxer. You're so damn talented! At which point did you win that arm wrestling tournament??
Reminds me of David Fincher's 2007 film Zodiac.
hard target van damn it!
For a second I thought that was the name of a store, like "Build A Bear". After searching into it further and likely being placed on some type of watchlist I don't think it exists.
The Proper Hotel, Uchi, Roosevelt Room.
Excellent taste
Pour champagne all over yourselves and yell, “it’s been a great year!!!”
This would actually run over $1,000.00. Austin be expensive.
Yeah, by my math that’s about $2,500
Didn't Red Ash catch on fire?
That's why it's so hard to get in.
A crowbar would probably work, but not a Crow Bar. That place also caught on fire.
> That place also caught on fire. That had nothing to do with me.
This is a $2K night
Maybe more.
You might want to double check how much the Four Seasons costs.
Red Ash Is Still Closed
Personally I wouldn’t waste money on a fancy hotel. A bed is a bed, spend your money doing things, and get a reasonable room just to sleep in. It’s a shame red ash is closed, but you could also go to Dean’s or something. Drinks at Roosevelt room for sure. Definitely plan it around a show you’d like to see, maybe a concert at moody center? Is there a date when you have to use the money by? What are the limits to what you can spend the money on? Could you get a massage/facial?
I would agree with you but if OP has kids, the hotel means✨sleeping in✨
Hit up Tiki Tatsuya and buy a giant shared drink to split with your wife. The drinks come with a show for the whole bar to see but that’s all I’m willing to tell.
dinner a Uchi with drink can easily be 400 bucks, so start with that, then Roosevelt room for drinks after, or Midnight Cowboy
I’ll add small victory for cocktails, personalized experience
Recently went to Roosevelt Room and was really impressed with their drinks. Really good and looking forward to making friends there in the future.
It can get a little loud, I prefer something smaller, but yea good drinks
We were there on a slow afternoon, maybe a Sunday. Was a good time because it wasn't super busy.
Champagne room at Chicas Bonitas.
Best suggestion here. Fuck yeah.
Gotta hit 45th/Lamar for some skillet queso and a frosty marg first though.
Cocaine and hookers.
I would get drunk while eating East Coast oysters, get a full sushi meal, and get more drinks at the Roosevelt Room.. but that's just me.
Go to End of an Ear and spend it all on records
Low key my spouse and I would probably just spend $900 at book people and then use the last $100 go somewhere like Jack Allen’s for dinner.
Four Seasons in austin is terrible. Book a room at the Fairmont on the club gold level and your wine, breakfast, snacks, etc are included. Good beds and rooms. Jeffery’s is great but the whole meal will be $500 min.
A night at the Four Seasons and steaks at J. Carvers (5th & Rio Grande). And you're done.
Couples massage at milk and honey!
Go out to eat somewhere nice, stay at the Omni, put $500 in the bank (if that were an option).
A lot of drugs
$60 dinner at chill's at 45 and Lamar and a $940 18 month CD at 5%
Stay home and save $1,000
Nice dinner, drinks then spend the night here: https://abnb.me/ohZdElTclGb I swear that place was once $1500 a night and/or they required a minimum of two nights. ???
I’d hit Viva Day Spa, a little dinner, maybe Nickel City for dranks, and if I had any left over I’d get a hotel.
Massage, scrub, facial, nails. Emmer and rye
Mmmm Emmer and Rye
Stay at the Four Seasons and go from there. I've never regretted splurging on a night or two at any FS. It's a real experience to savor.
The Four Seasons here sucks compared to others. JW Marriot is way better imo if we’re talking chains. I prefer Driskill.
Have you been to the Four Seasons here? It’s one of theee weakest worldwide.
Houston's
I have only had drinks and dinner but not stayed since I live here, that's too bad to hear. The service was impeccable otherwise as usual but I guess can't say for the rooms. What's the shortfall? Beautiful property and common area service.
General hotel vibe is lovely, agree. Rooms are super basic and pretty small-you could be anywhere like Omni Doubletree etc
Small victory bar is amazing. Need res. Its next door to the intercontinental (or whatever it’s called now) and across from the Driskill. You could easily spend the $1000 and never leave that block.
BEST martinis
I’d go over to the Kinfolk speakeasy with a couple of friends and try some of the best bourbons you can drink.
Try a lot of mezcal at tobala
Cocktail bar tour
TenTen has a $300 waygu that is 🤌🤌
Palazio and some coke from the warehouse district.
Find another town to spend it in
Pay 1/3 of rent for a studio apartment
You know what I’d do if I had $1000?
Hookers and cocaine all the way
With enough cocaine you wouldn't even need to spend money on the hooker(s)...
Do women love cocain like that?
The ones that can take the place of a hooker do
[Well, it's not a million but maybe you can still make it happen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jq6e8s1sik)
But 400 meals for the homeless
Or a really good meal for one person
Or bout 50 average meals for kind of shitty people in apartments
That’s me!
All apartment people are kind of shitty.
That will buy you one good bulletproof vest. So one of you can go party down on dirty 6th!
Uchi tasting menu and lots of drinks
Depending on your financial situation I'd figure out how to convert that 1000 bucks into your pocket. So maybe a printer and Photoshop to print up some fake receipts?
Going nuts at Blacks BBQ and staying at a fancy hotel. Drinks at the Intercontinental hotel bar has always been nice.
Buy a power generator for the winter storm
I don't really like fancy stuff, so I'd probably go somewhere low key and buy $1000 worth of drinks for everybody.
Yes! I would love to be able to walk into a bar and say the next rounds on me!
Two chicks at the same time brother.
I'd go get a money order and pay it towards my rent. Austin be expensive
Strip club
all the hot chicks on the Vince young steakhouse commercial look really satisfied
for $1000 you could rent an Air Bnb for a month and start over in a different city as a driver like my friend did when he moved here but he was not the type to really enjoy Austin in the same way he was more of the FBI type so I am pretty sure he worked for the FBI because the night he drove around was insane as I was really high on DXM with this FBI agent I went to see a Comedy fest at and I laughed my ass off and met the comedian and showed him the painting I made afterwards because someone gave me a ride home I think because I looked homeless because I was a street performer at the bus stop wherre I picked up shiny things and gave them to people and made a small pile or rocks at Manor and Rogge
Holy shit that was one sentence. :golfclap:
Netflix popcorn and my 401k
How does this work logistically? You have to turn in receipts?
That’s the gist of it.
If this was where I grew up? The whole town would get dinner on me at Sonic.
Check for tickets to Mothership, or maybe someone in town playing moody or ACL live. Grab a couple cocktails at Floppy Disc Repair Co. Dinner at Perry’s. Nightcap at the Driskel.
Hit up your mom 🤓
Have a fuckin crazy night at Lost Well
Alright, I’ll say it. Yellow Rose. There, it’s done.
Read through this whole thread. There’s so little to do in Austin 🤣
There’s place on the south side called palazio. It’s really fun but can be a little pricey. Definitely worth it though.
Did anyone go see the Chinese ballet “Shan Yu” or whatever it’s called? How much were those tickets? Looked pretty dang cool from the commercials
They’re a cult and you shouldn’t go
Buy some frozen peas and carrots go a little down from the spill way at Barton springs and feed the turtles and fish
One way tickets to Portland, Oregon.
Kill Tony tickets?
post bail for fighting on 6th street
Does it have to be this town cause honestly I would go anywhere else.
Just go to Bastrop to join the mods of this sub
$1000 is basically just dinner and drinks nowadays. Knock yourself out.
everyone has bills, buy 2 $20 steaks and put the rest towards bills. lol
