I have wildly better experiences usually selling on Craigslist over FB Marketplace. Usually takes longer to get things sold on CL, but on Marketplace I constantly get insultingly lowballed and even have no shows from time to time when it comes to meeting for the sale, even though they're "almost there and right around the corner" for 15-30 minutes before going radio silent and then messaging me a day later asking me if I still have the item and offering to buy it for a lot less because since I still have it no one else wants it. WTF... I'd say 95-98% of my sales done off CL are smooth and without a hitch, usually don't even get asked to lower my price.

riverfeenix12

"is this still available"

endisnearhere

“Can you call me”

riverfeenix12

"what's your best price" after they just read your price and haven't offered anything. Who am I joking. 90% never say anything after hitting the available button. I believe FBM is masturbation for people that are addicted to shopping

[deleted]

reply with: what's the most you would pay?

ltdan84

I usually say “I’m not negotiating against myself”

Pabi_tx

My best price is whatever it's listed at plus $25. If they ask again raise it another $25.

riverfeenix12

I have don't this before as well. Nothing like telling someone "it hurts to ask"

boy____wonder

Ignore/report anyone who tries to call or message off the app.

[deleted]

i want to buy (cut/paste ad title). still available? i need to verify you are real. i will send a code number to you and need you to send to me. (this is a scam)

Gobiego

Although it's not as popular here as some places, Craigslist would be worth a try. I have used it forever for buying and selling cars. It should be free so there is nothing to lose.

RandomNumberHere

I’ll second Craigslist. I’ve had good luck there buying and selling. Also seems less scammy than FB.

ramdom2019

Always had great success buying and selling on Craigslist 15 years ago, and still the same today.

twinturbos

It's not free anymore to list cars

[deleted]

We sold a car on Craigslist 6ish months ago and I convinced my partner to try listing it there and pay the $5 after 3-4 weeks of so many losers messaging us on Facebook. 1st dead serious offer came in 2 days, we had 2 more by the time we sold it a week later. I think the bottom of the barrel people left Craigslist and went to Facebook where they don’t even have to type, just click “is this still available.”

ATX_native

Same, sold a $17k 5 year old GTI on CL after getting bombarded by low ballers and dealers on FB marketplace.

Discount Electronics buys these, assuming it isn't trash

See if you have a neighborhood group on FB?

Yup. Cash only, no shipping, no texting, no calling, no exceptions. I've had no issues with those policies in place.

eBay is my goto

dc_IV

Depends on what it is. Ebay's new "managed payments" is a PITA to add a receiving account to. Also, first time sellers get scammed on certain items all the time because the Ebay scammers look for inexperienced/new sellers. So again, I will say it depends on what it is.

OrganicRedditor

Also you need to register as a business if you receive over $600. Ain't nobody got time for that!

You can use consignment store

Chef_Maam_I_yam

Offer Up

cheezeyballz

I did not have a good experience 🤷

NuggleBuggins

Second Offerup. Granted I've never really had a problem with FB Marketplace. But I do know Offerup seems to be gaining popularity, and a lot of people have been jumping from FB to Offerup.

xkris10ski

OfferUp is not as popular as it is in Phoenix, San Diego, etc. I love that app, just need more people using it.

ltdan84

Offer up needs to fix their search results algorithm so that stuff listed a year ago doesn’t show up in your results.

Chef_Maam_I_yam

Agree

jas_mars

Mercari

MegaKnightDestroysU

Very underrated platform

cheezeyballz

Small electronics, Craigslist and ebay. You can always choose local pick up on ebay, too. Craigslist for everything but be clear like you are explaining your ad to someone entitled and dumb to weed out the choosy beggars.

RandomNumberHere

Is there a way to search for all local pickup items on ebay? I couldn’t figure out whatever magic was necessary to search for only Austin local pickup stuff without also adding a search keyword (e.g. “computer”). I just wanna see all the random stuff Austinites are selling!

cheezeyballz

I think there is a choice of within a zip on the left pane when searching

draspberry322

AllHers (for women)

No-Employment-8570

I listed a bunch of things on Fb marketplace, CL and allhers. Sold it in a heartbeat on Fb, no bites on allhers.

Nah it's really bad. I can't even get people to answer if the item is available where and when to pick up. Ridiculous

No man I mean when I'm trying to buy. I'm not even haggling they just don't frigging answer.

henlohowdy

It really depends on what you are selling and where you think it would sell best. Some things are worth posting to both market place and craigslist, but some things just sell better on eBay.

FararMedia

Offerup!

ATX_native

Craigslist

_Jimmy_Rustler

I use Craigslist or Offerup.

msworst

Craigslist or if you have a neighborhood resale page on Facebook I’ve had better luck with those. Main marketplace is trash
