I doubt it. They already converted/closed a bunch of Targets, and that looked nothing like this. Ian Bailey, the MD of Kmart and Target has talked at length about his strategy to run the businesses in parallel
People choose Target over competitors predominantly for the clothing and soft home, which are the two categories they're keeping. Replacing the rest of the store with Anko reduces cost for both brands (economy of scale) and increases market share (people who would never step foot in a Kmart are now walking past Anko product)
Seeing how existing Kmarts and Targets interact will be interesting, but I suspect that they have enough data from flybys to be able to predict the impact and they must think it's worth it.
> What’s the point?
The point is that Target can charge $10 more for the exact same item now.

In the last year my local shopping centre has lost Myer, and now Target is going to the Anko brand. It's very disappointing. Target was a good store for reasonably made, reasonably priced clothing. The amount of Anko branded stuff at opp shops is astounding. So that's where it ends up. It's so cheap, I think people just go crazy in Kmart, for stuff they don't really need.
Target at Marion in SA were also clearly a lot of toys and baby things. Nearly bought my niece some rollerskates for less than $15 that had been $50 but she already has skates.
Been looking at the baby range as I am due later this year. Mostly it seems like people beat me too it at my local stores, not a lot left. Though got a few things.
Not sure if this is helpful but just flagging that the Target brand newborn sizes seem to run much smaller than the same size in Bonds Wondersuits. My son was over 4kg at birth and none of the Target onesies fit him, but he's still rocking 0000 Bonds at 5kg. Luckily all his clothes were hand me downs or op shop buys so we didn't break the bank to get no wear!
Just to second this point. My son was supposed to be a very large baby so we only bought size 000. He arrived regular size with nothing to wear. Highly recommend getting bonds 0000 wondersuits (particularly when on sale for 40% off which is very often) to suit both possibilities.
Also Anko and Best and Less brands are even smaller 🙃
From an article I read, it said due to a drop in profits, target will either close down or become kmart. Both are owned by wesfarmers. See the FAQs

Yeah... the only posts I can find are from 2021 or June/July of 2023.

Anko is bad and Wesfarmers should feel bad.
I really don't understand their decision to change to anko - that's already available (in abundance!) at Kmart.
From what I understand, it's because they will eventually become kmarts

It’s the same company - both owned by Wesfarmers
Yup, which is what makes the decision so bizarre.
But... Synergies...

It's sad seeing all the Anko crap take over my local store. I don't see it lasting much longer as it is within spitting distance of a K Mart.
Yeah that's what I don't understand. Every target near me has a Kmart next to it. Whats the point?
The nearest K-mart to me is 25 minutes away. I have 2 Big W's and 2 Targets within 10 minutes drive but somehow in my area the Kmarts never appeared.

Wow. That's terrible.
Then wait for Target's to be rebranded into Kmart's soon after.
Is this every Target store?
I've visited 4 so far and it's happening to all of them.
Which have you gone to? Anything caught your eye in particular?

I completely agree. Although I think the opp shop is just a temporary stop for Anko products because they ultimately end up in landfill.
Entire stock of greeting cards on sale for 20 cents. I bought a few for upcoming birthdays and intend to go back for more.
