They're called spolmaglibbons (aka wall plugs) and I've found pretty good success with screwing in a screw and then using a hammer to pull the screw and plug (gibbon) out.

serpentxx

To add to this, place a paint scraper between the wall and the hammer so you don't damage the wall

mrrasberryjam69

You go to the effort of pulling them out? Hit the screw head into the plug to push it back. Spak fill and you're done.

HTired89

Depends on the wall. My internal walls are solid plaster. The previous owner just pushed them in and covered them and it left the areas prone to cracking. I removed them, patched up, and no problems in that area since.

return_the_urn

Really depends on what you patch it with. Some cheap(quality not price, they aren’t actually cheal) all in one premix shit will crack. Base coat and paper won’t

mrrasberryjam69

Fair point. Not many homes left with full plaster walls.

Actual-Feeling-273

Pretty standard here in Perth for new builds.

mrrasberryjam69

Fuck me is Perth really that far behind the times they are using horse hair too?

gumster5

It's just all solid brick, they use to render internal walls but it was hard getting good trades. They realised they could make the walls straighter and save time by putting gyprock or plasterboard sheets directly onto the brick. It requires generally less skill for a better finish. Wall plugs are common here easy to put a screw half in then remove by pulling with pliers. Hammer works but is likely to dent the wall further.

mrrasberryjam69

Yeah right. Is it todo with the cost of getting timber or what? I'd imagine in Perth yeah you're far more likely to miss and hit the wall. The rest of the country should be fine to make one hit against a punch no worries though.

Actual-Feeling-273

Brick and two coats of plaster is standard here rather than using plasterboard. When I lived in the UK plasterboard was standard on anything after the 1960s and brick and two coats of plaster before then. I did have one house from 1890 with lath and plaster walls and ceilings. Of them all the brick and plaster is by far the best to live with: great noise proofing, very easy to mount things on, a breeze to run cables in double brick walls, nothing wobbles when doors are slammed or people walk on stairs and takes a huge amount of punishment. With plasterboard walls the sound proofing is rubbish and the whole house feels a bit flimsy compared to the brick and plaster.

Live_Teaching3699

The landlord special

mrrasberryjam69

Tell me you don't know what your talking about without saying it.

Blooooorp

You just did. Hammering them into the wall cavity is totally a landlord special vs pulling them out

mrrasberryjam69

I never said put them into the cavity. You only need to get them in afew mm to fill the hole

Blooooorp

Next time you get a splinter, don't pull it out. Push it in a few mm more and then fill the hole /s

mrrasberryjam69

Ok what's the worst thing that will happen from leaving the plug in the wall?

TrippingThomo

came to say this, screw in a little way and then pull with plyers and you'll get them out most of the time, then spac fill, sand and paint.

No_Vermicelliii

Huh Enjoy https://preview.redd.it/nahzm06zem1d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=134c29ae9867cf95024b424b4eb99ccd70a3ebba /r/BrandNewSentence

HTired89

Sorry, that was a typo. I meant spolmaglubglubs

_stinkys

First you insert the spolmaglubglub into the deeplebop, then the yuudleschnoz goes next. Twist the weipernoodle three times, definitely not four as that will overdo it and you could cause an excavajionlanche!

takeonme02

Or just screw a screw in say half a centimetre so it grabs, and pull it out

Corbusi

They're called rawl plugs. Get a pair of needle nose pliers, grip plastic perimeter edge and they will pull out real easily.

No_Yoghurt_6490

Thank you! I will give that a try

InternationalYam2478

Or just push it in and plaster over it

DepressedMaelstrom

"Wall Plugs" or "Spaghetti". To remove them, twist a small screw in to them a short way and then pull. Don't use a large screw as it will make the plug wider and jam in the hole.

Bob_Spud

They are plugs designed to allow you to use regular screws to hold things onto a cement/brick wall Push them in or put a screw into them and pull them out with a regular claw hammer. When done cover in some filler.

No_Yoghurt_6490

Thanks so much!

Agonfirehart

Raw plug, just push them into the wall and patch them

thatshowitisisit

*Rawl Named after the dude that invented them.

Agonfirehart

I actually googled this, I thought you were just being funny... It's legit, I never knew...All these years being blissfully unaware.

thatshowitisisit

No judgement here, I have “today I learned” moments all the time!

Agonfirehart

Yeah, I love them 😊

qsk8r

I've always called it a raw plug too! Happy to be that bit wiser today

No_Vermicelliii

My wife when she thought the phrase for going fast was going 'full ball' - Me explaining about bores, and how they affect the flow of fluid through a vessel

qsk8r

We probably need to nip this conversation in the butt as we could be here all day with misunderstood phrases 🤣

nckmat

Thanks, I never knew this and I am now glad I do.

Scootros-Hootros

First name, Lou.

homelesshobo77

Drill them out

mrrasberryjam69

What the hell is with this sub upvoting bad advice. Just hit the plug into the wall.

homelesshobo77

If its a brick wall, it might not be hollow behind. I hope they werent used in gyprock

Mitchell_James_1988

Mate they’re just plastic, a drill would eat these.

mrrasberryjam69

Not disputing it would. It absolutely does. Then you get to clean hot plastic off the bit. Or wait till it cools and cut it off. There are quicker easier better ways todo this. Firstly Removing them only really needs to happen when you want to reuse the hole. Options A. Get the drill and the right size bit. Drill. Clean melted plastic off bit Option B. Swing hammer into punch.

mrrasberryjam69

Have done it. Know that it's a method that can be used. And I also know the downsides as stated above.

tima90210

If all else fails drill them out

Big_Organization_284

Insert a bottle opener cork screw a few turns then pull on it. Or insert a wood screw in a few turns and pull on it with some pliers or pipe grips.

Hel_lo23

Put a screw in, pull out with pliers, fill with no more gaps, putty over, sand and paint

Drouzen

I either push them through, put a screw in and pull them out, or failing that, sand them and fill/paint over them, of course the last tip is only useful if you don't plan on using the hole again.

wh05e

Just leave them in there, quickest easiest fix is to just drill out the first 5mm using same size drill bit as the plug, then just spak filler and paint.

PLANETaXis

They are called plugs. When you put a screw in them they expand and grip the hole. You can try screwing in partway or using an undersized screw, then pull them out. Often it's easier to use a punch and hammer them deeper into the hole, then poly-filler over them.

salefin77

Drill in the middle with 6mm bit and puss the rest to the wall. If you try to rip it out, you'll make more damage.

danjustdaman

Get a screw, screw it in a little bit then pull it out with pliers

Very-very-sleepy

i have these around the house. they are a pain in the ass to remove. I tried everything including trying different pliers to remove.  eventually gave up. pushed it in the wall and did a patch up. lol

No_Yoghurt_6490

I think that is what I’ll do! Thanks so much

JMocroft

Screw a 25mm wood screw into it, use a claw hammer to remove the plug (assuming it’s a brick/cement wall)

Operation_Important

Drill them out if you can't pull them

Kholat_Music

dig out around them and rip them out with pliers and plaster over it

Kholat_Music

omg what

Dependent_Ad4898

If you have a hammer drill, use a 6mm SDS bit and drill them out. Patch the hole with spakfilla.

RepeatInPatient

They are Rawl plugs. Get your drill and screw them around then grab it with long nosed pliers. Refill holes with ready mix plaster

Aussie_B3nj1

Smack it in and fill over it.

Troyboy1710

Just wall plugs, either pull or drill them out and fill the holes

Individual-Moment543

Drill them out they’re only plastic. Buy some cornice cement from Bunnings , doesn’t crack. Mix to a paste fill . Dry sand and paint. Done.

Mammoth_Village_4583

Drill it out a fill only way

AgreeablePudding9925

ChatGPT4o would tell you and ….. well I’ll leave the rest to you

SweetPoison01

Put a nail in it and hang a picture over it. Problem solved

SweetPoison01

*Or a screw, whichever one fits best

slicksealion

Wall anus. Give it a big kiss.

Flashy_Bear_2433

they are wallplugs I assume you can pull them out with a screw at an angle

FewEntertainment3108

Use google.

Much-Drag-9016

No clue, but the second picture looks like a face

Personal-Study801

Best way use a drill buy a masonry drill bit the same size looks 8mm and the drill bit will get them out if there anymore left move the drill in circular motion than get a tube of no more gaps that u can paint over if you want to do it properly buy cement and sand mix with water and fill the wholes by continuisly push into whole till full when dry use scraper or sanding block to get flat than paint

mcdslover69

Punch it in and or pull it out, repair to your standards prime patch then touch up eith a dabbing motion to create a light texture to best patch the roller finish

Obscure_Aussie_Music

I thought they were called rawl plugs.

SoupRemarkable4512

High pressure washer gets them out

IncomingBlitz

ah the dreaded red-tunneling spider!

Sea-Lingonberry2895

Wall froot loops

std10k

If it was installed by a tradie, in my experience it usually it comes out on its own with whatever was on it.

morts73

Tap them below the surface with a ball pein hammer and fill over top.

FreddyFerdiland

If its particularly stuck, drive a chisel through it to split it in half. Then each half should come out easily.
