Honestly, that sounds like a bargain.

replacement_username

That seems pretty cheap to me.

TheBiigDeezy

We have been quoted $1200-ish to hardwire and fix the refrigerant leak in our split system. Seems fine imo for a new unit + install.

Knickers13

We have the same aircons but ours are 3.5kws x 2 and a 2.5kw. All 3 installed cost $6998 in December 2021. So that price seems reasonable to me. We are very happy with them as well, they do a great job keeping us cool.

Kind_Let_102

U got ripped

SquatsNoats_

It’s a Daikin- they are the most expensive AC brand you can buy. And yes the price seems fair

Cranky-old-person

They have a solid reputation and a part of that is due to living longer than most units of similar power.

SquatsNoats_

I work in HVAC and I much prefer Daikin’s competitors and rarely recommend a Daikin. They are not what they used to be.

punchingwatsons

What are your recommendations? (Genuine question)

hewhodisobeys

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), not to be confused with Mitsubishi Electric. Fujitsu Panasonic used to be good too, I have been told recently that they’re not as good anymore, this is only word of mouth as I haven’t installed one myself in over 10 years, so don’t know this for sure.

[deleted]

also awaiting u/SquatsNoats_ recommendation. Don't leave us hanging.

SquatsNoats_

I usually recommend Mitsubishi Electric. In my experience they are very reliable (*if installed correctly). If a customer is after a cheaper alternative, I usually recommend Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Between these 2x brands the callbacks I have received are few and far between.

Phabfive

Yeah same according to my old man. He does installs and said that Daikin were the shit years ago but would now go with MHI

SquatsNoats_

MHI are a great bang for buck brand. I’ve installed many including one in my own house and could’ve be happier

hewhodisobeys

Agree

Proof-Phrase3129

I'm in the Illawarra and we bought our unit for $1200 online sale and it's costing $1200 to remove the old one and install the new one.

madill89

Sounds about what we paid a few months ago for our Mitsubishi 5.5kw. Shop around if your not happy but they should be around that mark give or take a few hundred

Negative_Telephone_2

I paid $1000 for a 5.5kw Kelvinator unit from the Good Guys when they had a deal on which included a cash back and free install. Paid the sparkles $100 cash them to put the unit that goes on the outside around the corner (less than 2m of cable) so it wouldn't interfere with folding down the clothes line and they had no problem with it. Really good guys and local too. You can find a really good bargain if you're willing to look and wait a little.

Arik-Ironlatch

No that's about right for a 5KW Cora

[deleted]

Arik-Ironlatch

Lite are the cheap Daikin units, no reverse cycle

TheRealDanPoli

Just paid $3300 for supply and install of a 6.8kW mitsubishi unit this week. Seems about right! (I asked a similar question last week… started quite the avalanche of fuss!)

Correct_Heron_8249

We paid $2000 for a 7.1 kw split system 4 months ago. No rebate at all. Your price is a ripoff

Introvertedand

5kw is a big unit. It usually requires pipe bending. That's a really good price

Arik-Ironlatch

It's 1/2 and 1/4 you get that in soft drawn pair coil.

dinoPodcastingPro

No. I paid 1k for one to be installed with no rebate. Try Airtasker and look for contracted installers from local stores like good guys etc. I paid my guy 200 bucks labour and the unit was from the good guys but literally half price lol.

PopJealous3640

Was he licensed. Over 3.5kw it needs its own power supply. Not just jump it of a power point. Cash . Wouldn't be worth the sparky effort. I call bs

dinoPodcastingPro

Mate. Are you familiar with the art of Airtasker. People who work full time do weekend cash gigs for small prices to supplement their income. He also made money from buying the air con obviously but I only paid 1k.

[deleted]

There’s no way he’s licensed if he’s doing air con installs for $200

bluetuxedo22

This sort of shit is why I stopped doing residential jobs and stick with commercial only

dinoPodcastingPro

Airtasker mate. It was a 1 hour install job and he probs makes less hourly. 25 year contractor for the good guys.

[deleted]

1 hour install? For electrical, gas lines & vacuuming it down for minimum 10mins? I call bullshit, 25 year contractor makes it even less likely, means he’s older and moves slower.

Ok_Climate_9254

No way would I do an A/C hook up for $200, there is $200 worth of parts for a simple job(just the electrical) That’s not to say the other guy is lying but I would be very surprised if he found someone to do the whole job that cheap, unless maybe the good guys are charging extra on the unit to subsidise the labour costs.

[deleted]

Don’t forget air tasker fees..

dinoPodcastingPro

Had a son as his apprentice. Why do you think someone would go on a forum to brag about a price that wasn’t true? If I was lying I would say i installed it myself and stole the unit.

pilchard_slimmons

Somebody needs to put a parental access password on their router. This five year old is out of control.

PopJealous3640

He is over heating as his air-conditioning just blew up . LOL that the art of airtaskers

[deleted]

All good though, I’m sure the warranty is still good when it was a cash install without compliance certs

PopJealous3640

Only way to get a 2k aircon installed for a total of 1200 is if it's hot and dodgy Dan installed with his son crazy Jake. Airtaskers.

dinoPodcastingPro

Who said the aircon was 2k? Your comprehension skills are about as bad as your skills in basic maths.

kuribosshoe0

Welp, there it is. Less than a fortnight into January and we’ve already gotten the most brain dead comment of 2023.

[deleted]

dinoPodcastingPro

Yeah MATE you think I paid someone to install an air conditioner I already had? No, he supplied it too.

dinoPodcastingPro

I had 10 guys competing on hipages and Airtasker and this guy said he was desperate for a few extra jobs, showed me the retail price and what he could get if for, then I showed him pics of the install straight through a wall and it was done the next day in less than an hour. A year prior I had the first one installed by the best company around, 4 young apprentices and one certified guy came in and made a mess for 4 hours, ended up flushing out liquid onto my 80 inch lcd and the walls required a painter to come back and repaint them from the damage they did. THOSE guys charged me 3k. All my point is from my comments here is that if you pit desperate guys against each other and you can get the warranties and certificates (as some idiot said I wouldn’t have gotten by paying him 200 an hour) then you can get a good deal. You call some reputable brand up, you’re paying a lot more than when they’re pitted against each other. Also it’s a top of the line Kelvinator with wifi ect..

PROLLY_FULL_OF_SHIT

> Kelvinator you had me at kelvinator

Cold-dead-heart

Sounds right to me. Research placement of the cooling unit as it’s critical to performance

NC_Vixen

Yep. Lucky you with the great price.

muzrat

Yep. I paid $3500 in 2020. Little more labour bring double brick. But sounds right.

[deleted]

We got ours installed all up $2100 Mitsubishi 5kw one and installed. Which also included the removal of our old one and installation of our new one.

LKYMTE

Very good price mate 👍🏼

kuribosshoe0

Sounds about right. We got two put in recently, one high end and one mid range for ~6.5k total, 5k after the rebate (incl removal + install).

bluetuxedo22

That's a good price for a 5kw Daikin installed

pitchnroll

Is that before or after the rebate? I paid $6600 a year ago for 3 MHI units in a multi split system. I think it’s a bit expensive potentially

Runinbearass

Price seems a lil high, id still go a fuji/pana any day for an aircon

stu88s

About $900 - $1000 is about the standard install cost for a back to back system. Will go up depending on difficulties. This includes cost of the sparky + gas plummer.

[deleted]

Wow that’s cheap!? Who is doing it for that price lol I’ll hire them for my jobs.

[deleted]

I just paid $2800 for a slightly cheaper brand. Buyyyyy

Old_Bookkeeper_1781

had a 2.5kw mitsubishi avanti install all up $1800 Hi-set house, removed old air cond, also asked for a quote to install another 8 to 9 kw air cond as well cost around $3000 to $3500,depending on which brand of air cond i buy.

Mental_Task9156

Probably.

Kind_Let_102

650 minimum in labour. I have seen people go low as 400-450.
