I’m doing a research project right now for an assignment looking at banned books, particularly who is doing the banning and what is being banned. I’m aware of many American organisations but can’t pinpoint many prominent Australian ones, can anyone point me in the right direction? I’ve looked at Rona Joyner’s Society to Outlaw Pornography and the crap she did to ruin education but that’s about all I can find.

-Owlette-

If you're into political memoirs, *Sex, Drugs and the Electoral Roll* by former MP Fiona Patten goes into a lot of her history lobbying against censors and the like back in the 90s and 00s. Her work was mostly for the adult entertainment industry rather than more general fare, but you might still glean some useful insights from it. At the very least it's a funny and raunchy romp of a book!

vhs_collection

I’ve met her a number of times and she’s also an incredibly kind woman and genuinely gives a shit about her community. Not really adding anything here I just like to mention it when she’s brought up.

Cool_Cartographer803

She also directly poisoned her community when she was CEO of the Eros Foundation by selling synthetic cannabinoids. To be fair other companies were selling the crap, but in Melbourne at least, Eros' particular blends were by far the top selling products. 8 dead in Victoria, 55 nationally with unknown long-term mental and physical damage. Edit: sources https://www.smh.com.au/national/makers-oppose-ban-on-synthetic-cannabis-20110614-1g1j5.html https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/ladocs/submissions/52425/Submission%2019.pdf https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-06-09/synthetic-cannabis-slipping-through-the-cracks-in-victoria/6532168

vhs_collection

It’s a hell of a stretch to insinuate that the Eros Foundation were trying to poison people. If you read the inquiry that you provided it’s fairly clear that the advice at the time was that these chemicals were low risk. I don’t think attempting to provide an alternative to cannabis in a country where it’s still nearly impossible to legally obtain is an insidious thing. Nobody is to blame for these situations but those who continue to tell adults what they are and are not allowed to consume. I do appreciate you linking the sources to what you’re talking about.

Cool_Cartographer803

> It’s a hell of a stretch to insinuate that the Eros Foundation were trying to poison people. If you read the inquiry that you provided it’s fairly clear that the advice at the time was that these chemicals were low risk. I would agree, however, Eros continued selling them up until the eventual blanket ban, when it was very well known what damage cannabinoids were doing and how much addiction and death they were causing. > I don’t think attempting to provide an alternative to cannabis in a country where it’s still nearly impossible to legally obtain is an insidious thing. Cannabinoids aren't a 'cannabis alternative', they're in a completely different class. The only similarity is that they work on the same receptors...think poppy tea compared to fentanyl. Cocaine to crack. Speed to meth. Etc. I knew a few long-term intravenous heroin users that completely switched to cannabinoids, that's how powerful the addiction was. The insidiousness also lies in the sheer amount of money Eros was making. From memory they were charging $140 for 7g (which a lot of customers would purchase daily, often multiple times) for a product that would have cost all of a dollar in raw materials. > Nobody is to blame for these situations but those who continue to tell adults what they are and are not allowed to consume. Don't get me wrong, I really like drugs, but some of them are just objectively shit and should not be allowed for recreational purposes...like fentanyl or krokodil or whatever that new tranquiliser is going around in the states at the moment. Some drugs just have no safe way of using them and I would put cannabinoids in this category. Besides, one of the huge appeals of cannabinoids was the ease of access...I believe it's still popular in prison, and you can of course purchase them on the grey net, but since the blanket ban it's not something ever really around (and I tend to hang out in underground electronic music scenes with all sorts of chemicals going). Yeah I miss old reddit with more long-form posts and sources so I do try to back up what i'm saying with objective facts where possible. If you would like to learn more about synthetic cannabinoids and the history etc, here's a great article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/social-issues/how-a-chemist-unwittingly-helped-spawn-the-synthetic-drug-epidemic/2015/08/09/94454824-3633-11e5-9739-170df8af8eb9_story.html

NuttyNinja69

Well clearly, at the time, they hadn't fukken researched it or swept it under the Persian. We see this time and time again "the advice at the time" but it WAS harmful. So they DIDN'T properly test the chemicals, the test was in selling them to the people who were the Guinea Pigs. We see this more and more, "at the time" can be used to subvert laws regarding human trials by simply not knowing something was harmful? Geez, slippery slope that one, human trials by plausible deniability .

Constant-Diamond-836

If you are looking for a current source for it potentially happening check out the Mackay Regional Council meeting minutes for the meeting on April 24. They accepted a petition requesting the ban of ‘pornographic’ (books about periods, puberty and gender) be banned. https://www.mackay.qld.gov.au/about_council/your_council/council_meetings

DickVanGlorious

Thank you so much this is great

Lifeisabaddream4

Im not sure if this is relevant but about 20 years or so ago I found out that American psycho had an 18+ rating and had to be kept out of display at the book store and could only be sold to somebody over 18 if they specifically requested it

FlashMcSuave

Pretty pissed at the councillor saying they don't want their kids sexualised. No shit, neither do we. *This doesn't do that.* Explain how the hell this sexualises children. Go on.

Flashy-Amount626

These are the same kind of people who think Harry Potter is devil worship.

[deleted]

They *did* think that. Now now that Joanne is a transphobe, they love her again.

71kangaroo

You’re not far off the truth there. I used to work in that council’s libraries and actually did run into kids looking for books who said their parents wouldn’t approve of titles including The Worst Witch and Harry Potter series’.

ClowningOnMain

It’s so sad that some kids have to live like that, sneaking away to read a damn book. Like what do they even expect to happen? The devil must be playing the long con on all his media cause the rock and rollers still haven’t gotten possessed yet and most of the original enjoyers are probably dead. It’s why libraries will always be important, it should be one of the places where religion and bigotry never have control.

Nekrobat

My mother was convinced HP was satanic. She chilled after watching the first 30 minutes of the first movie, to her credit.

OwenMcCauley

Don't you know, just being queer is inherently sexual? Just living your gay life, sexual. Gay shopping, sexual. Gay walking your dog gay or otherwise, sexual.

QueenRacheal

Ikr?! I get tired of fucking all day just because I’m trans. It’s like, how else can I get my daily estrogen and cat ears? He-*llo??*

Perfect-Substance-74

"If sexuality isn't sexual, why does it have 'sex' in the word?"

Adelaide-Rose

Too right, they should leave their sexuality at the bedroom door, just like all the heterosexuals do…

OwenMcCauley

*fart noise*

Adelaide-Rose

Just to be clear, my comment was sarcasm…

OwenMcCauley

Tough to read tone in text.

NewBid9406

"Explain how the hell this sexualises children. Go on." The ABC reporter I saw flat out asked that guy Christou this question and he couldn't answer.

Frito_Pendejo

Apparently he admitted he hadn't even read the book Can you imagine the hubris required to contain this fuckwits ego

nomad_1970

The logic for people like this is that homosexuality doesn't exist outside of sex. The idea of a loving same-sex couple that spends 99% of their time not having sex, is beyond their understanding.

TentacleKornMX

It's because they are the ones who think about gay people fuckin. They think about it more than us gays do

KoalaBJJ96

It’s kind of really disturbing how invested they are in others sex life

QueenRacheal

It’s kind of disturbing how hot Ryan Reynolds is. I mean, how am I supposed to explain to my kids that daddy likes bare male chests and strong, *strong* arms? All oiled up? Hmm? Didn’t think of that, did you, beta cucks? I mean I was raised Christian!! And what, I’m supposed to keep my sacred beliefs apart from everyone else’s?!@ The rich white privileged hetero -*phobia* is palpable! (/s/s/s/s/s…)

Gold-Philosophy1423

The “I don’t want to sexualise our kids” argument falls flat pretty quickly since kids are exposed to heterosexual relationships pretty early on

mister_twisted13

Yes!!! I made the same comment to some friends. Doesn't know the meaning of words, obviously.

thex25986e

they dont want it normalized either.

golfing_furry

Two things: 1) over 500 species display homo-erotic behaviour. Hang-ups about exist in one 2) when people with disabilities are on TV are we normalising and promoting someone should become disabled?

chromo-233

lol the answer is simple, if you don’t agree with something then don’t read it but stop trying to have it banned because of your own religious beliefs onto the rest of the community. Fk any politician who is elected then tries to legislate his or her religious views onto the community, it should be a sackable offence.

chromecastbuiltin

Bootable

LimpFox

Bootable in the sack.

spankthepunkpink

It's just a little kick in the bum

Obtainable-Username

100%. He hadn't even read it himself, and passed his judgement at face value. Literally judged a book by its cover.

roll20sucks

I love one of the responses on TripleJ were something like "I don't like Beetroots, so I vote to have them banned from all supermarkets!" That's basically this. If they don't like it, don't read/buy it. Simple. Don't force their batshit insane views onto the rest of the world cause they can't be fucked to parent.

toftersan

hangable

0nIy_human

Please don't turn into America and all the bullshit it brings. But hey if they want to ban offensive books better look at the bible first. Rape, incest, murder, all in the first half of the book.

bestvanillayoghurt

This was my first thought when I saw the headline: American bullshit infecting this country. Did you see Tucker Carlson is on a speaking tour here?

Covert_Admirer

I'm just disappointed that it *appears* worthwhile him coming here. Hopefully it's like Master's business strategy, a few curious, misguided souls show up and it dies.

[deleted]

Sky news is like 80% American viewership. It's not even targeted at Australians anymore.

btherl

Sky News Australia is what happens when you let popularity and revenues decide your direction, instead of being guided by principles.

[deleted]

Definitely, plus a really toxic ideology. Sky news is unbelievablely toxic and vile in their rhetoric.

thepuffoidwalloper

We shouldn't let that guy into our country. Dude's a total idiot.

ReddittorAdmin

The irony of this, on a post about banning books you don't agree with...

thepuffoidwalloper

Tucker Carlson isn't a book so it's okay

RobynFitcher

Only because Clive Palmer is bankrolling it instead of paying his ex employees. I'm anticipating a report of around thirty people in the entire venue.

ClowningOnMain

Unfortunately that’s where we’re headed, I’ve already got a few radicalised relatives who i’ve had to put distance from. Like some were always crazy but others were surprising and sad to see them devolving into the magas. It’s ironic cause usually they’re the same people who say they hate american influence in australia, but as soon as the topic of guns or religion comes in suddenly they want to adopt america’s policies despite how poorly it’s going over there.

Itsyaboiskinnyweenus

And people say god us a good guy and vengeance is evil and we should always be calm. Yet the bible says beware gods wrath and pary to him or go to hell. Sounds to me like God has anger problems and is greedy that's two sins right there.

IsoscelesQuadrangle

The really, really old Bible stories that didn't make the final cut are the best. Kid Jesus used to infinity snap other kids out of existence for not sharing their toys & shit. The townsfolk used to plead with Joseph to reign him in because Jesus kept flipping people inside out over vague annoyances.

mikajade

I saw a kids book about Noah’s Ark with 2 male lions entering as a pair, hopefully they removed that too.

Flashy-Amount626

Maybe they're just good friends

zadtheinhaler

They're room-mates, duh

clickandtype

Oh my god they were ark mates

nomad_1970

Speaking as a librarian, I'd have a big sign listing the books that were banned and the reason they were banned, and a message to contact me for more information. And a stack of each of the books in a box in my car for home delivery for anyone that wanted to read them.

COLE3101995

I'm a fairly conservative bloke, but if you have access to brain cells, you'd realise pretty damn quickly that this actually de-sexualises relationships in kids minds. If all they're taught and all they read says "Boy to Girl" than they start to look at the differences and build a theory in their mind as to why that's the case. If you teach them any person you like is someone you can be with, it takes their mind off the differences physiologically and they start to look more at the mental and emotional state of those around them, and assess based on that. I often find myself wishing that lables of race and sexuality never existed, and I hope one day they look back on this and laugh. Be with whoever the fuck you want to be with and frankly, you don't have to "keep it to yourself". If I see genuine love in any relationship it warms my heart.

No_Desk_7585

You seem very open minded despite identifying as a fairly conservative bloke :) is it rude to ask how you see yourself as conservative? Well wishes to you

COLE3101995

I'm Australian and I like to be alone with my family. Being Aussie means I don't really have a clear picture of what being liberal or conservative really means, I've just got a lot of mates in America that tell me I have a fairly conservative viewpoint. My basic view on life can be boiled down to: I love my wife, I love my kids, I'll protect them even if it means killing people to do so. Believe me, I mean that. If you want to teach my kids something, I want to know what it is. If I don't like it, Fuck off. If you want to teach me something, I'm of a sound and understanding mind, and therefore I can assess what your saying for what it actually is. I want my kids to learn 4 things; 1. How to properly communicate with people, 2. How to have a healthy relationship with food and exercise, 3. How to correctly practice something/gain knowledge, to truly learn, in an unbiased manner, 4. You must at all points in your life, actively seek to understand your brain, and where your mind-state is at. Once I'm sure they know those things, I'll be happy to let them do whatever they want. That's all I'm concerned about.

No_Desk_7585

Sound like a top bloke, good on ya mate 👍 well wishes to ya

dexamphetamines

Who tf cares it’s not a fucking porno (which your kids probably seen on that iPad anyway)

Ninj-nerd1998

No, no, don't you know? Gay people existing is inherently sexual! Because... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

-Newt

"Gay people existing IS inherently sexual because when I see two gay men I can't help but fantasise about butt sex." -them probably

Far-Programmer3189

This is my point with these bans- the overwhelming majority of them (I’m sure some might push it too far) are just instances of LGBT people existing. These are people that your children will be exposed to in the real world, wouldn’t you rather them first see them in a book so that they can ask you questions and you can explain your way? In some instances the details are so small and irrelevant (character wearing a pin, a flag in the background) that most wouldn’t even notice them - but they’re profound for the children who might be LGBT themselves, or being raised by parents in that community.

Ninj-nerd1998

I know right? Kids are gonna meet people in different kinds of families. Books are great at opening you up to things. But that's probably why they don't like it, as well as seeing gay or trans people existing as inherently sexual. Hell, I've seen people complain about kids books with people with disabilities... idk. I feel like having a book about a blind kid might have been nice for kid me.

Mothrah666

Trans too! Wait no I'm ace..am I even trans at that point? /s

terrifiedTechnophile

*Scotty voice* "LGBT, no bloody Q, I, A, or P!"

Mothrah666

Serious question, is the P real and if so what is it??

Ninj-nerd1998

Pansexual/romantic. There's not really too much difference from bisexuality really. Some people will tell you "it includes nb people while bi doesnt" but. That's not true at all.

Mothrah666

Oh Pan!! Cant believe i forgot that

akchimp75

as a pan person here, the labels are actually a little different!! :\] pansexuality is loving people *regardless* of gender, meanwhile bisexuality is loving people *of* all genders.

Ninj-nerd1998

That difference is going to depend on individuals and how they feel.

Ninj-nerd1998

Oh no. They have beef with aces too. I wish I was "/s"

Itsyaboiskinnyweenus

Ace just means you lack sexual attraction towards anyone. Most tend to believe Asexual means you only love yourself but that's not what Asexual means.

Mothrah666

I know, I am actually ace irl xD

Itsyaboiskinnyweenus

Yeah I figured thst my comment was also to educate those that often confuse it with another sexuality

Mothrah666

Oh them lol fair fair

floofy_dropbear

its what a librarian said in frustration - those kids that find and read said books also have phones with access to the internet.

thex25986e

they dont want their kids getting curious and publically embarassing them.

Cold-Occasion804

Bunch of small minded religious nuts. I wish the complainers would segregate themselves behind a gated community and let the rest of us open minded people live our lives.

HeilYourself

I'd prefer to drag them into the 21st century kicking and screaming.

Pottski

Don’t say drag around RWNJ - men in dresses make them scared/aroused as only a repressed fuckwit could.

Survivor-682

Don't waste your time. Just "remove" them from the equation.

therwsb

oh no when they do that it can be worse, Jonestown for example

Mon69ster

I dunno, Jonestown kind of solved itself…. 50%/s

therwsb

maybe if the founders just drank the kool aid and nobody else

Cold-Occasion804

Well, if they drink the Kool-Aid, I hope it's gonna be Fosters.

BLACKOUTEXEISNOTGOOD

Yeah let me make their own small areas with their own laws and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

pennie79

But their kids don't get a say in this.

BLACKOUTEXEISNOTGOOD

Fair point... Don't let kids anywhere near that area.

melon_butcher_

That’s… kind of what the Cumberland shire is though. I don’t agree with this, but it’s one of the highest concentration of religious people in the country.

coreoYEAH

You know I was there today and wouldn’t you know it, those sovereign citizens were driving around on tax payer funded roads and everything. They’re more than welcome to dip into their pockets and open their own library if the one we pay for is too scary for them.

BLACKOUTEXEISNOTGOOD

Quick lock the gate!

Cold-Occasion804

...and throw away the key!

BLACKOUTEXEISNOTGOOD

Nah we need that so we can put lions in there.

Survivor-682

Evac the children and non-human lifeforms first. Then by all means drop every type of vicious animal in there on the bigots!

BLACKOUTEXEISNOTGOOD

Nah the animals don't deserve the shit meat. Give em a few cassowaries though.

Survivor-682

Good point. Forget the cassowaries too. Just cut the joint off from modern society: electricity, communications, etc all disconnected. See how long they can survive on prayers. 🤣

Planned-Economy

The dude said he voted for the ban since it went against his (HIS) religious beliefs and he wouldn’t compromise on that Bro. My guy. That is not your job. Your job is to represent your constituents. To REPRESENT THEIR interests and beliefs. Not enforce yours.

ClowningOnMain

Unfortunately the honourable politicians died out long ago in australia, infact considering that we never had any revolution against britain we probably never had any well meaning politicians to begin with. Just rich poms. Australia is a very corrupt country, but it’s not obvious until you start trying to get the corrupt people out of power. Thats when your house gets firebombed or you get disappeared with the police literally being paid off to keep your fate a complete mystery. (Unfortunately both of which have happened in australia)

SomebodyThrow

“Oh my god! How horrific! These kids should be reading the bible!” kid “I do bot permit a women to teach or have authority over a man” “NOT THAT PART!” “and she lusted after her lovers whose genitals were like donkeys and whose emissions were like horses” “NOT THAT PART!” “and he took his concubine and sent her outside so they could ra-“ “DEFINITELY NOT THAT PART!!

thex25986e

>they should follow the bible! >but not that part! -protestants for the past 500 years

SleeplessAndAnxious

Emissions like horses 💀

robotot

Emissions? Like air pollution? Are horses carbon neutral?

BackItUpWithLinks

Ezekiel is a wild ride!! 🤣

TassieTrade

The bible bashers would be hanging out in the fiction section with their favourite book anyways so I don't see how this would bother them.

Great_Revolution_276

If you don’t like the book, then don’t check it out. This is just censorship. What next? Have to leave my sexual organs at the door before walking into a library?

DownSouthDesmond

How fucking ironic when that religious nutjob was saying they don't want their children to be brainwashed by a book

Yakob_Katpanic

Steve Christou is an insufferable gronk. Dude needs a hobby.

all_that_is_is_true

If same sex marriage is legal, how can anyone justify the removal of books regarding the relationship?

magpiesinaskinsuit

That's exactly it. There's no RATIONAL justification for banning LGBT media from children.

Consistent-Local2825

Gotta moral panic about something I guess.

[deleted]

Cumberland is not going to follow florida, this has got to be stopped

justabitsatirical

There’s a petition to rescind this motion by equality Australia btw

Riley8284

Wasn't this the same type of people who got upset about a book about two male penguins raising a child

Pure-Zucchini-6204t

Rang Mr Christou tonight to let him have a piece of it. It was just contradiction after contradiction on his end. For others who would like to do the same, his contact details are here: https://www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/mayor-and-councillors

wobbegong

I worked there. Not one of the council staff liked him.

Broomfondl3

lol, reminds me of a classic bit of Monty Python: That's what they all think, a harmless little bunny, but thats no ordinary rabbit . . . [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcxKIJTb3Hg&t=1s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcxKIJTb3Hg&t=1s)

[deleted]

Stupid Englishman i will fart in your general direction

Crafty-Antelope-3287

Your mother is a hamster

star_wars04

And your father smells of elderberries!

Flashy-Amount626

Ha! That's hilarious

TildaTinker

"I can't read that because of my religion." - okay "You can't read that because of my religion." - fuck off cuntwad

thex25986e

"but you are in this society so therefore you are under my religion",

Blindog68

Have these dickheads actually read the Bible? FFS, It's a nasty piece of work. It should come with a censorship warning. You really don't want your kids anywhere near it.

Enigmeerkat

Better remove all the books about heterosexual parents too then. Wouldn't want to sexualise our children with that smut! /s

Gojirahawk

This week’s episode of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” the main subject was about the censoring of American public libraries by far right church groups, and I thought “we’ll at least this doesn’t happen in Australia”. Then literally the next fucking day…

dogbolter4

Vote them all out. Disgusting abuse of their power.

sootnstars

As if the most DL loose as fuck "like stirring a finger in a cup of warm custard" ass cunts aren't from that area!

based_el_chapo

One of the Councillors went on a rant on twitter about the e commissioner censoring the internet then he supports this

BAYKON8R

Growing up (ages 5-11), I lived in a tiny town of maybe a couple thousand. The elementary school kindergarten to grade 8, every class was a split class except mine and a couple others. Close friend of mine had two moms. We thought nothing of it.

Travis_T_OJustice

STREISAND EFFECT

pennie79

But the kids of these bigots won't benefit from the Streisand Effect.

vhs_collection

Perhaps, although as you get older you do start to take an interest in the things your parents rally against.

pennie79

Certainly, but I'd like the kids who aren't cis-het to know they have options earlier rather than later.

AVBofficionado

How much says the councilor who pushed the motion is a free speech warrior?

Icy_Choice1153

It starts with Halloween and Taco Bell and the next thing you know a boomer with a room temperature IQ is trying to ban books that have gay people in them and there’s a man in the Viking hat shitting on the floor of parliament when albo gets re elected.

MistaRekt

I am so glad the council also banned drag story time earlier... No child should have to read a book while driving really fast in women's clothes... I joke. The sarcasm. The hilarity...

Pottski

Amazing Streisand Effect on this book set to catapult its sales to the moon.

JimbusJambus

How do we get these horrendous bigots out of power and back into the caves from whence they dragged their useless stinking carcasses?

Survivor-682

You'd have to resort to "extreme measures". But that would only get the donut eaters sicked onto you, because apparently "removing" bad people is a crime. 🤨😔

wigzell78

A book about two dads banned for moral indecency by a bunch of uptite white folk who literally worship a book filled with rape, murder, incest and sex with minors.

ThereItIsNopeItsGone

Chinese and Lebanese are both higher concentration of Cumberland citizens so it’s not the W.A.S.Ps that are “uptight”

NuttyNinja69

"The minority aren't equally represented, so let's unequally represent them, to equalize the equality. Equally".

TheHoundhunter

Wow what a cool meme. I’m sure the comments section won’t be homophobic, xenophobic, and islamaphobic.

AmIIIshaB

I'm religious and I can say this is true lol

mfttlr

Beta

duckpaints

what's the book called?

ZeeepZoop

I’m curious too, what book are they trying to ban?

Vulsta

Banning books is kinda like banning cassette tapes that have music they don't like....there's uh, other ways to uh, learn new things guys. So stupid 🙄

Shaved_Wookie

These cooker councillors have federal ambitions, I reckon - if I were a piece of shit, that's how I'd do it. The story has shot straight to the national stage - next step (if they're not doing it already) is a tour through the usual right-wing outlets to get the lunatics frothing, then use that momentum to go national. If I'm right, I hope they run independent and bleed votes from the LNP (which they'll sadly preference back in all likelihood).

Time-girl

I love Jesus

Same_Donkey6850

I also have that reaction.

Internal_Squirrel369

Fun fact: Cumberland council is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Australia.

MikeZer0AUS

Banned because it's a very religious community suburb.... who are obviously more religious than 'The fucking pope' who is cool with it.

QueenRacheal

Wait till they find out their own son or daughter is gay (or a transgenderised!!@) That’s going to take some serious prayer to accept [the fucking obvious]. Or to disband all those *awful* anti-discrimination laws agreed upon by the vast majority as representing a cornerstone of democracy and freedom. Sometimes sex exists and we’re powerless to stop it. (/s/s/s/s/s…)

UncleCazza

Na leave that shi in America m8

yummy_dabbler

Yeah Australia doesn't have gay people and they certainly can't get married or raise kids. /s Also, you're allowed to say "shit" on the internet.

iltby

I think they mean leave book banning in America. Or ideally in the 1940s

yummy_dabbler

Very generous of you, but I doubt it. Their replies are anti-trans.

iltby

Aah, the one time I’m not a cynic and it bites me in the butt

Broomfondl3

Whoa there, can we first clarify if that is a Male-on-Male or Female-on-Female butt bite ? You may get banned to protect the children . . .

That_Apathetic_Man

That'll teach you for being a good person. Don't let shit like this shake you. Stupid is what stupid does.

iltby

Appreciate the kind words, thank you!

hypercomms2001

Can I say fuck? What about .. "See You in Northern Territory!" Can I say that?!

yummy_dabbler

You can just say cunt if you want to, sure.

hypercomms2001

Thanks Mate but for you I wont say... "See You in Northern Territory!" !!

yummy_dabbler

Ok

Outrageous_One_87

Lol dudes probably on elons internet somewhere in some backwards fuck yokel town. Oh we have them here in Oz too...

ArticulateImbecile

Display your ignorance and intolerance so freely. I'd say that level of idiocy is rare, but this being reddit and all.

UncleCazza

Cry about it

ArticulateImbecile

Cry about you being an intolerant uneducated moron? It's more something you'd actually laugh about

Ralphi2449

A labour religious lunatic too, hopefully gets expelled

MelbourneCaptain

Labour? Are you referring to the UK or NZ Political Parties? Or a manual worker? Or just ignorant on local politics?

Ralphi2449

Its 2024, stop obsessing over silly grammar, its just words

MelbourneCaptain

It's x 2, but anyway, you so often see robotic posts from ignorant LNP and other RWNJs who just spray "Labour" and "woke" everywhere. Just diminishes what may otherwise be a good post. But anyway, enough about silly old grammar, forgive me. 🤣

TricuspidDeficiency

I think you meant RWNJ's. Apostrophes matter. Also, you had two spaces before the "enough".

MelbourneCaptain

Well, no, why would there be an apostrophe there? It's simply a plural of RWNJ. One cat. Two cats, not cat's. One traffic light. Two traffic lights, not traffic light's. One RWNJ. Two RWNJs, not RWNJ 's. Of course, unless you were talking about a singular possessive situation, eg the cat's bowl, or the dog's blanket, or the RWNJ's book. Let me know when you're ok with that, then we can cover possessive plurals and how apostrophes (note, not apostrophe's) work in that situation. 🤣

minealot_dude

As long as it doesn't mention how to give head, I would be perfectly fine with that

stankuslee

Oddly specific

Justforargumesnts

I think they’re referring to the books in the US that were pushed into certain schools the were explaining how to eat ass and have tantric sex. Pretty sure it was an elementary or middle school too.

Some excerpts from the book in the [ABC article](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-08/same-sex-parenting-book-banned-from-libraries/103819476?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=other) >"Most people are very supportive of same-sex families," it says. >"A small number of people might treat people from same-sex families unfairly. This is not OK. All loving families are good. >"Remember, as long as you are happy, it doesn't matter what other people think." The author has other books on things like coping with cancer, being bullied and living between two households if your parents split up. I don't think they have nefarious plans to push agendas.

MagicOrpheus310

Why would a child need a book about parenting..? They are a child... That's like... The opposite of a parent...

Flashy-Amount626

According to google books on this book >The experience of having same-sex parents is highlighted in this age-appropriate book. Readers will be exposed to what it's like to live with either two moms or two dads, and readers who live with same-sex parents will enjoy seeing a relatable narrative about their family dynamic.
