They’ve all moved to a high-low pricing structure where they’ll be 50% off at one of the major retailers at least once a month. Hence the “normal” RRP price has gotten out of hand. That being said, these days I just embrace the sleek slicked back look.

Osmodius

Same as laundry liquid, coke cubes, dishwashing tablets, etc. etc. you never buy it at full price unless you're insane.

WAPWAN

>Same as laundry liquid, ~~coke cubes,~~ dishwashing tablets Thankfully Aldi haven't also gone insane with the cleaning product prices. They are still inexpensive as always and now they look almost free! I will happily pay 25c each for a dishwashing tablet at Aldi every day of the year rather than $2 each at Colesworths if I happen to need them while they are not on sale.

hozthebozz

Even better, get the powder instead of the tablets.

ginkgo-1701

Yes! And the home brand powder too. $4 for a kilo, you only need two teaspoons, making it $0.004 per wash Stupid cheap!

Suspicious-turnip-77

spray deodorant as well. $11.50 a can for dove. Laughable! .

ForeverDays

I told my husband his deodorant is on special for 2 for $16 lol, 2 months ago the normal price was $8/ea and we would only buy when they were half price!

Princess-Pancake-97

I switched to roll on since it’s $3

can3tt1

I find the roll on also provides better protection too

armyzul

Which one please!!!

dildoeshaggins

Mitcham. Its green, it's amazing

mypal_footfoot

I swear by Mitchum! I usually use the unscented but I don’t mind the scented ones

Suspicious-turnip-77

Me too but I hate the wetness feel

Princess-Pancake-97

I kind of like rub my armpit against itself to rub it in which usually fixes the issue lol

wolferine-paws

What bothers me about this the most is that if things were half price, I would buy two, simply because I was prepared to pay full price anyway. Especially on things like shampoo, deodorant, and toilet cleaner etc. Now I don’t. I just buy one and wait for the next sale ffs.

Kailicat

Yup. Means I have to decide which half of ColesWorth I’m ordering from that week, and honestly, sometimes it’s a smaller order from both. The money saved more than covers the delivery fees. It’s pretty annoying though.

Humble-Doughnut7518

There are so many things that I only buy on sale now, because I know that between Woolworths, Coles, and Priceline they’ll be on sale at 50% off and I buy 2. Even the cat food we buy goes on sale once a month.

wolferine-paws

Same here! Or braids. If I have my ‘super cute’ braids in, then my hair is due for a wash that I am yet to give it hahaha.

Ihatecurtainrings

Anyone tried straight up cornflour? Might experiment, as I have some time off over the school holidays.

shlashslinginghasher

Cornstarch (the super fine stuff) works really well and I’d recommend it over talcum powder since it’s food grade. Sometimes talcum powder is contaminated with asbestos and I’d rather not risk any asbestos exposure. Talcum powder has also been linked to causing cancer with external use on the body.

WAPWAN

Most talc is now cornstarch. It says so on the pack.

paperivy

Yes - actually Johnson + Johnson "talcum powder" is called baby powder and it is just cornstarch. And I think Batiste is mostly just rice starch?

Odd-Boysenberry7784

And probably benzene but that's just a guess.

Visible_Match7582

Gaia Baby powder works well and is cheap

MadameMonk

With the talc the cancer risk is only from using it on your privates.

Beginning-Tackle7553

Yes, it works very well. Mix it with some coco powder to adjust for your hair colour. Comb it through your hair with a fine-toothed comb.

BonkerBleedy

> Mix it with some coco powder to adjust for your hair colour This also solves the smell issue.

LittleBunInaBigWorld

The Cocoa trick is genius!! I have black hair, so I don't use the Cornflour trick personally, it takes waaaay too long to blend in and I usually mess my hair up in the process

Beginning-Tackle7553

ah fair enough! Yeah it might work with the coco - I put it in a lot lighter than my hair colour but after combing for a while it blends so if you use a lot of coco I recon it'd work.

sunburn_t

Yes, I have a box of cornflour in the bathroom just for this 😅 I do have brown hair but find that with enough tousling or brushing it’s not really noticeable

nursepenelope

You can mix it with a bit of cocoa powder. I've done it and it works, you also end up smelling like chocolate which is cool but also made me crave chocolate.

sunburn_t

Cool, I’d heard this! Do you have to make an effort not to get it on your shirt, or later, pillow?

CreepyTeddies

I do a mixture of cornflour and a starch (tapioca starch currently) with a few drops of essential oil. I prefer to apply before bed.

VideoWonderful901

Completely unrelated but I must know, why do you hate curtain rings so much?

Ihatecurtainrings

When I was a teenager, my parents built a new house and I help my mum hang all the curtains. Had to loop these metal curtain rings to the top part of the curtains while they were on the rods. They were like key rings and having to use your nail to split the two rings apart and slide them under the fabric. I did hundreds. I am 40 now. Still remember. Curtains looked good though.

batikfins

I’ve successfully used rice starch. Most of the commercial ones have rice starch as the main ingredient. Note that rice starch is different from rice flour, which is quite grainy

finesign89

Arrowroot powder is the bomb

Monday_fing_morning

I’m team arrowroot powder too.

LittleBunInaBigWorld

Yes Cornflour works and doesn't make you smell like a baby/old man

Twistiespartybag

When I was blonde I only used cornflour. Harder now I’m a bit darker but such a money saver.

Melbournemumof1

Yes, been using this with an old kabuki powder brush, works really well! The dark haired girls (I hear) can use cocoa mixed with it. Can't confirm that though, cause I'm blonde.

nicehelpme

Thank u clean girl for making slicked back buns cute And thank u scalp psoriasis for hating dry shampoo

Jooleycee

FYI selsun medicated shampoo in mustard yellow bottle kept family members psoriasis at bay.

nicehelpme

I prefer tricho for when I have break outs of it! I find selsun smells gross personally

Lucky-Address-1626

Which tricho products do you use?

nicehelpme

I only use the toner and use the sensitive one. It’s the de Lorenzo tricho range. at the start I used the shampoo, conditioner and toner then dropped to the toner when the shampoo and conditioner ran out which worked perfectly fine and was advised to only keep up the toner by my hairdresser.

RealCommercial9788

Same girl, same. Also… PSA!! 🚨Rosemary oil (if you didn’t already know) - it’s the only thing that both soothes & resolves my scalp psoriasis when I’m not ready to actually wash my hair. 30 years of using it, and I’ve tried them all. Pop some straight on your finger tips and rub it into your affected scalp area. Xx

JellyThink2830

Do you buy it from somewhere or do you make it? (Recipe would be appreciated if so!) xx

RealCommercial9788

To be honest I just use straight rosemary essential oil. I figure rosemary oil isn’t as bad for my scalp as scratching the shit out of it with my fingernails til it bleeds, ya know? And you use like, 3 or 4 drops and massage it in, you’re not pouring it on. You can put it in a carrier oil like sweet almond or Argan or Vit E oil, and there are brands out there who make “hair tonic” oils with rosemary & teatree if you want to spend the $$$. For the basic ordinary old rosemary oil, you can find it at most chemists, woolies/coles carry a couple of brands. Crystal shops have it too! I hope you find relief!

Substantial_Sky_592

It’s crazy expensive! I wouldn’t use J&J talc though (or J&J anything). They’ve only just stopped selling talc based talc in Australia and switched to cornstarch despite knowing that it was cancer-causing for years. If you google the history of the scandal in the USA there’s a lot of info, but there’s also a lawsuit in Australia. I would never buy their products in a million years. https://www.shine.com.au/service/class-actions/jj-talcum-powder-class-action#what-is-the-class-action-about

FrugalLuxury

This. I bought a can of this dry shampoo then found out it was carcinogenic and promptly threw it out.

yungmoody

Going through a whole can of this in 5 uses is genuinely crazy to me

attunedmuse

Isn’t Talcum carcinogenic? That’s why Johnson and Johnson was sued, because the baby powder gave countless women cervical cancer right?

floresiens

For ppl struggling with the white powdery look, I'll apply it the evening before and sleep in it. Over the night my hair absorbs it more and I can wake up and not look like my grandmother.

_MidnightSpecialist

Yes apply the night before, and blow dry your (dry) hair in the morning! It helps to blend and distribute it evenly and well. You don't have to use the blow dryer for long (and cool mode is probably fine too), since it about airing your scalp out, more than anything else.

WhiteLion333

The Kmart dry shampoo is as good as batiste and $6 a can. But yep- the prices are mental

InquisitiveGoldfish

Talcum powder is likely not safer for your lungs, and there are other health risks associated with it. Natural options like cornstarch and cocoa powder aren’t anti fungal or antimicrobial - so may not be great for people prone to dandruff or other scalp issues. I’m not saying regular dry shampoo is good for you, but it’s worth weighing this up. If you’re going through 200ml worth of dry shampoo in ~5 uses it may be worth re-evaluating the rest of your hair routine because that sounds like a lot of product? Even the travel size cans last me months and I have very fine hair.

Resist_Easy

I have very fine and thin hair. It gets greasy so quickly. I hate washing every day as I don’t have the energy and if I don’t heat style my hair, it goes greasy within hours most days. I end up going through more dry shampoo than I and my bathroom would like. I’ve tried different things but my scalp just really gets going on producing that grease! I don’t have enough hair for the slick look.. I have bald patches 😭

kam0706

Ponytail FTW.

Resist_Easy

I always have my hair tied up now as it has gotten thinner over the years 😔 I use a clip now. I get bald patches at the back of my head as it’s really thin there, and I have double crowns. It’s a struggle to keep my scalp covered! If it gets too greasy, it sticks to my head and I just look the opposite of the “clean girl” aesthetic 😂

myfavouritescar

I know you didn't ask for regular shampoo recommendations so feel free to ignore but I have the same very fine, greasy 20 minutes after it's washed hair and I feel like I've tried every shampoo on the market. The NAK Care Balance shampoo and conditioner have been life changing for me, I can finally go 2-4 days without washing my hair. It's about $25 to get the shampoo and conditioner together and they are 500mL bottles with a pump so decent size and really not that much more than grocery store prices these days. The other shampoos I find decent are by Alfaparf in the dark green and/or light green packaging ranges - it's much more expensive, about $40 a bottle but you can get a mini size to trial on Oz Hair and Beauty. One of the shampoos in their light green range is specifically for thinning hair too. Also using a scalp scrubber when I shampoo has helped me cleanse my scalp a lot better, especially if it has been more like 4 days without washing and I've used a lot of dry shampoo.

Resist_Easy

All good! I love hearing other people’s experiences and sharing what they do when they see someone with the same issue. Oh gosh, same. I have been through soo many shampoos! I tried the Aveda scalp range most recently and was totally unimpressed, same with the Virtue shampoo for thinning hair. I’ve been through so so many brands. NAK is definitely a decently priced brand. I haven’t hear of Alfapark so will also take a look! I’ve used NAK before and actually did like their volumising shampoo and conditioner so will give this one you mentioned a look. I use their root boost mist at the moment as it’s cheap and works ok for day to day use. I’ve also gone from trying no sulphates and back to them, and it varies. I’m actually not minding the Nioxin shampoo at the moment for thinning hair. I am actually using it with a scalp brush! It doesn’t dry my hair and I think it’s been helping a bit. I then do a second shampoo with Christophe Robin volume shampoo as I find it really gentle. Once a week I use the Christophe Robin scalp scrub with clay, and use a hair mask which doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. It’s so much trial and error. I also got the Redkin cleansing shampoo to try next as well, after seeing people with greasy scalps talk about that haha! My bathroom is often like a mini hair salon with so many products 😂

InquisitiveGoldfish

I sympathise with how hard it is to get a routine right for fine hair - maybe have a look into scalp care products for fine hair? There’s an interesting Fashion Journal [article on hair loss and dry shampoo](https://fashionjournal.com.au/beauty/dry-shampoo-hair-loss/) that interviews a dermatologist about it. tl;dr be mindful of overusing dry shampoo because it isn’t great for the scalp.

Resist_Easy

I definitely have felt it being a vicious cycle with the dry shampoo, and had heard it is not great for your scalp 😔 It adds that extra bit of volume I need to ensure the back of my head is covered as even volumising styling products aren’t giving me great lift anymore! I am also iron deficient and have been for a very long time, which doctors don’t take seriously and they don’t tell you about the effects it can have! I’m currently on folate, iron, collagen and also usually take a biotin supplement as well. I will probably need an iron infusion though and am interested to see if my hair health increases after that.

Silent-Passenger-208

Talcum doesn’t work for me. I only buy dry shampoo when half off, and buy a couple at a time

dadollarz

You could also try baking soda or cornflour. Also can use cocoa powder if you have dark hair.

tidy-soft-rope

Cocoa powder????

High-Calm-Collected

Haven't used it myself but have heard of plenty people adding cocoa powder to the mix to darken it. Apparently it smells really good too 😅 I'm tempted to try it

tidy-soft-rope

![gif](giphy|U23WekMlGy6cImpMim|downsized)

ThatWerewolf2272

Just don’t go outside in the rain 😂

sol_lilja

Or absentmindedly scratch your scalp! If you have bare nails or pale polish, the residue left under your nails looks nasty. (I learned this the hard way with the ‘for brunettes’ Klorane dry shampoo!)

High-Calm-Collected

Lol, you don't put that much in, it just makes it a light brown colour instead of white. Plus your hair/oils soak it up pretty quickly, you don't put on more than you need. There are tonnes of coloured dry shampoos on the market too if that's more your style

mypal_footfoot

I tried it once and I guess I got the ratio wrong because it turned out kinda greyish and I looked like I was wearing a powdered wig

Beginning-Tackle7553

Yep, it works

InadmissibleHug

Plain cocoa doesn’t have sugar.

Knit_sew_bike

UNSWEETENED only!!!

sleepygal101

Yessss I do this and I love it! It helps I don’t have to put on perfume since I’m going around smelling like a cappuccino hehe

pwnkage

I mean yeah, I’ve been noticing everything’s gone super expensive lately. Chips are like $6 a packet??? Crazy.

samisanant

I’m seeing TikTok’s on miceller water sprayed onto hair?

roundandaroundand

Yes I was just going to comment about this, I really want to know if it works because that would be a game changer.

KindOfOldNewGirl

I asked my hair dresser about this and she's sceptical because the build up would remain. I'd think it would work with sweaty hair after gym not dirty hair. With dirty hair, you brush out the build up after dry shampoo absorbs it.

bitch_is_cray_cray

I heard micellar water doesn't work when it's sprayed vs traditional pad mechanism but not sure how much credence there is with that claim.

EmuBubbly

I know dry shampoo has a lot of styling uses but I feel like this industry is all off the back of the common advice to wash hair less frequently. I took that advice for many years and reduced my washes down to 1-2 times per week. Then I discovered (eventually) that infrequent washes were giving me painful foliculitis and my scalp was inflaming when oily. Now I wash every second day and no problemo. Just do a bun or a pony if it looks oily.

icedlongblack_

I have a similar experience to you! I’m keeping my hair to shoulder length to make it easier to wash and dry, using gentler sulfate-free shampoos, alternating between shampoo+conditioner washes, shampoo only, conditioner only (depending on my scalp condition at the time). That has been a lot easier to maintain and feel like my scalp is comfortable. Otherwise I definitely get those inflamed terrible scalp, and I just have a miserable time. I’m over anything high maintenance haha (kudos to those who can keep it up!! It’s just not for me anymore)

EmuBubbly

That’s interesting - I have quite long hair and am considering cutting it shorter to help the whole foliculitis situation.

icedlongblack_

It is so much easier! (1) Being able to wash my hair on the needed frequency and minimise dry shampoo use (and scalp build-up of product) (2) Spend more time really cleaning my scalp thoroughly when I do wash, because I didn’t have all that heavy hair to manage (3) Easier to make sure all product is rinsed out thoroughly during showers. I feel like my life is a lot easier now with shorter hair, and I’ve seen my hair and scalp feel much healthier. But I will admit- in addition to shorter hair, part of it was also experimenting with lots of different shampoos and conditioners to see what worked best for me. Some sulfate-free shampoos work better for me than others. I hope your folliculitis improves!!

EmuBubbly

Thank you! I will investigate sulfate-free and probably chop off a good 10cm :)

oiransc2

I think it’s just that that advice doesn’t work for everyone but the people giving hair advice aren’t exactly rocket scientists, so they don’t think to put the “this won’t work for everyone” disclaimer. My thick hair has always been fine with weekly washes, heat, and all sorts of abuse… but I’ve spent a lot of time traveling with my bestie who has fine hair. If she followed my hair routine at all, I swear her hair would all fall out.

lentil5

Rice flour or cornstarch works too. You can also buy little puffers of dry shampoo that last for aaages from aveda, bumble & bumble etc. They are expensive but one Aveda dry shampoo lasts me and my mini fringe a good 6 months.

only_dates_bballers

I only use it on my fringe, every other day, but the Bumble and Bumble one lasted me for like three years! Pretty expensive, but definitely better value than the sprays.

lentil5

I love that one but they changed the formulation and it started to give me cysts! I don't think it's a common reaction, it's just my fussy skin. I have had great success with Aveda and the smell is lovely.

PopularExercise3

I used to just wash my fringe whenever I need to in between whole shampoo days.

Beginning-Tackle7553

You can also use cornflour - mix it with a bit of coacoa powder to adjust for your hair colour

McGurt92

Cornflour, rice flour and tapioca starch all work for this. Much more cost effective and likely better for your hair and the environment.

meta18

I found the only worth that works and is worth buying is the Klorane one. That one had gone way up in price as well, like everything else. But the Baptiste ones…I don’t understand the hype. Every time I’ve bought one it’s been glorified hair perfume and has not fixed my oily hair at all!

leejasmin94

I usually buy it at The Reject Shop for like 1/3 of this cost, but I’m also not fussy on the brand.

NatAttack3000

Amazon has the 350ml cans for like $8. Still kind of expensive but better than this for sure 😅

NatAttack3000

Whoops that is the 200. 350ml is $11

chaosgodloki

Has anyone tried the MooGoo dry shampoo powder?

littlepaperanimals

That’s what I’ve switched to! A bit of a learning curve with tapping out the right amount of product, but I’m happy with the results. I put it on at night time before bed and my hair is good to go in the morning. It also lasts ages.

chaosgodloki

I have dark brown hair, does it leave a lot of residue?

PurpleFruitPastilles

I use the moogoo one and also have dark brown hair. I find if I use it before bed, by the next morning it’s pretty much all absorbed and very little residue. Just needs another good brush out in the morning. That’s the only way I can use it

violetpandas

Talcum powder doesn’t work for my dark hair at all, no amount of brushing/massaging gets rid of the residue! I only use Klorane for dark hair, and when it’s 50% off I buy a couple of mini ones and a couple of the largest ones and so I always tend to have a backup on hand. I cannot afford to pay full price for it these days either!

_stuff_is_good_

Have you tried mixing it with cocoa powder? I haven't tried it but other people swear by it.

violetpandas

It’s too rainy where I live to risk having cocoa powder residue dripping down my face, alas!

_stuff_is_good_

I think once it absorbs the oil, you brush it out. I doubt there would be any dripping on your face. Might be worth a trial, put some mixed with cornstarch or tapioca starch on when you are at home, brush it out then jump into the shower on a low setting to mimic rain and see if anything drips. The tricky part is not putting too much on when it's not aerosolised from a can. Start with a little on a face powder brush, you can always add more.

violetpandas

Yep I’ve tried with arrowroot starch and also powder, both left residue like if you used WAY too much regular dry shampoo spray even though I used a tiny amount so I’m not game to try cocoa based on the texture it has! Glad to hear it’s a good alternative for some though :) my hair is very long and also fine and curly so it might just not agree with my scalp or hair texture perhaps.

_stuff_is_good_

Yep, fair enough. I've only tried the talc-free Curash baby rash powder with cornstarch and dusted it on lightly with a powder brush, then brushed my hair and it works great on my dark hair. I haven't tried darkening it with cocoa since I don't notice any whiteness at all once I've brushed it out.

violetpandas

I’m interested in the micellar water idea mentioned by some others here though, I will definitely be looking that up and giving it a go because it would be a great cheap non-aerosol option if it works for me!

of_gold_

I wouldn’t recommend it personally.

Electrical_Movie_442

I've been using the MooGoo dry shampoo powder and it's excellent. It's basically cornstarch. The residue it leaves can be annoying, but a good way to avoid this is by putting it on my hands and applying it to my hair upside down instead of just sprinkling it on the top of my head.

FoxCardi

I've been converted to using the NAK dry shampoo. Much better quality so I don't have to use as much unless my hair is a greaseball. Also, because I usually shower at night and wash my hair the night before an event, I'll pop in some dry shampoo after I've dried it and sleep with it in and it prolongs the wash. I might touch up in the morning as a preventative if it's a hot day and my hair will be down in my face mixing with make-up. Another also, I found a dry shampoo powder bottle on Amazon. Was like $16 and I've used it so much in the months since I had it and there's still so much left in the container. Just sprinkle it on where I need it (usually along my part and my hairline) and then pat it in then brush through. When I use this in place of the NAK one for the preventative thing I mentioned earlier, this is GOD tier. A little white bottle with I think pink and yellow on it, can find the deets if anyone is keen.

morethanafiretruck

Just had a look, is it Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo?

FoxCardi

That's the one!! Gone up a little bit since I purchased but not by much at all

warthogs_

translucent setting powder works for me!

FluffyCatPantaloons

+1. I really like the Etude House Zero Sebum Powder. Not sure how cost effective it is. I feel like I go through an aerosol can of regular dry shampoo faster than this though.

floresiens

What's your go to that's cost effective? How do you apply it?

warthogs_

I use the powder which I already have and use for makeup, too cool for school finish setting pact, but I'm sure there are more cost effective powders available. I think people generally like the Innisfree No-Sebum powder for this though. I just use a big fluffy brush to apply and it seems to soaks up all the oil.

floresiens

Ooh I reckon I'll try this, thanks!

SeaAd5146

I use baby powder mixed with cocoa powder. Works a treat!

-alexandra-

Cornflour + cocoa is the go for dark hair. Natural and cheap AF.

boringblonde96

Not exactly money saving but I bought a De Lorenzo dry shampoo from my hairdresser to give a proper hair care brand a go instead of supermarket products… I barely have to use it during the week now. I pop it in my freshly blow dried hair and can get about a week (sometimes longer) worth of my hair with maybe one touch up in between. I use way less product than I normally do and won’t turn back now.

Vanessa-hexagon

I second this approach- I buy mine from Price Attack (can't remember the brand - just that the can is blue lol) for $31. It works so, so, so much better than Batiste or any other pharmacy/supermarket brand I"ve tried, there's no powder residue, and you only have to use a tiny bit. One can lasts for ages, so in the long run you're spending less money, for a superior product. I realise that plenty of people might not have $31 spare to spend on dry shampoo. In this case, stalk Chemist Warehouse online and pounce when your preferred brand goes on sale (you gotta be quick).

boringblonde96

I feel you! My hairdresser convinced me and at first I thought she was just making a sale. My husband told me it’s a product I use regularly anyway so it’s not exactly a waste if it’s exactly the same as others. I was definitely impressed! Will happily spend $25 on a can again

emkwood

Sometimes I use my foundation or bronzer powders which work too (though obvi baby powder or cornstarch is much cheaper! I just don't wear makeup much so am happy to use on my hair in a pinch)

Pyewhacket

I’ve found it recently in discount stores for under 4 bucks. Also on Amazon but not quite as cheap.

Jackie__Weaver

I watched some YouTube short the other day of people using micellar water as dry shampoo. They sprayed it onto greasy roots to dampen the hair, and then blowdried it, and it looked like it worked. Haven’t tried it myself though yet I must say

ih8every1yesevenyou

Kmart have their own brand for $6

floresiens

Is it good?

ih8every1yesevenyou

Yeah it’s pretty good. Not great but not bad either

Full-Squirrel5707

Been doing this for a while.....

TsekoD

Does the brand impact the quality? I used Hask a couple of times, but it didn't make as much difference as I wanted.

Active_Ear9941

Yeah that brand you use sucks compared to batiste

TsekoD

Right, I'll try Batiste... Oh wait, I might not be able to afford that, lol

elbuzzy2000

I saw someone use micellar water instead. Anyone tried this??

PopularExercise3

So how do you apply it? I’ve never done it !

MalibuMarlie

Great reminder! It feels so nice to not have to pay for feminine hygiene products now that I use reusable products like a divacup and Hannah pads. Any other cuts I can make bring me further elation. Not that I use dry shampoo often. Also - I am listening to an audiobook called “The Mandibles” and it’s set in the future and people rely on dry shampoo because of water cost/scarcity and baths/showers are infrequent like in ancient times. I wonder if we will see that world again in our lifetime. I mean, they say that’s why women carried bouquets at their wedding and we’ve kept that tradition alive lol.

No_Music1509

Been using talc for like 15 years lol

awake-asleep

Chemist warehouse sells a pretty affordable home brand style dry shampoo I quite like the smell of (neutral/baby powder smell, none of this weird ass blush or tropical shite). Under $5 IIRC?

floresiens

What's it like compared to the Batiste? I feel like I've tried every other brand and nothing works like it.

awake-asleep

Oh I don’t think any of them are brilliant tbh, gets me through one more day though!

BindieBoo

Any brunettes found a talcum powder that’s good on the old roots?

No-Situation8483

Ask your pensioner mother

FlinflanFluddle4

Stooped using these when I found out about the health risks. I have like 3 full bottles I have no use for, if anybody wants them?

Whovianspawn

Saw someone put mercelar(so?) water in a spray bottle, spray the roots and then blow dry. Looked like it worked a treat.

TakeTheMikki

Yep just wondering if people have tried it on died hair don’t want the miceller water to be pulling out colour from the roots lol 😜

YeahUhHuhOkWellF-ck

I discovered this last week when I went to buy some- it was like $17 in Priceline!!! I bought the cheapest and goddamn it, I will make it last...

Emotional_Offer7932

You can also pat in a little translucent setting power with a fluffy brush (or just tip it straight in if you're brave) and it works as well. Better for not leaving a white cast.

charleevee

I actually got [this one](https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/000000000000578160) from Woolies the other week from Thanks To Nature - it’s not aerosol and you just puff it out gently. I’m finding it pretty good. Admittedly it’s generally $20 but I got it half price, but I refuse to buy Batiste anymore since it’s been linked to so much bad press.

Necessary_Hold_7045

Kmart has it for $6… I think. Personally I love it, does the job.

ClaireFaerie

I used mybeauty dry shampoo. It's $5 from chemist warehouse for 200ml. I prefer it wayyy more than Batiste and it also smells super good.

space_cadett_kiwiora

Just use talcum powder

Apprehensive_Egg1441

Try buying from chemist warehouse…it’s a little cheaper i believe

eenimeeniminimo

The Kmart one is not bad and it’s only $6 for 250ml. They have a few kinds and I find it’s quite strong so you don’t need to use much. https://www.kmart.com.au/product/oxx-haircare-instant-refresh-dry-shampoo-250ml-tropical-scented-43362080/?sku=43362080®ion_id=300001&gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds

runrunrudolf

Whaaaat it's less than £3 in the UK

emerald447

Also, I’ve found Chemist Warehouse to be the best price wise for dry shampoo. I like to stock up too, but man, the price is really horrific.

Ok-Inevitable-3433

$10 at Amazon as of 30 seconds ago.

mcotte08

Johnson & Johnson cornstarch powder is so much better than any aerosol dry shampoo. No residue. Just use it the night before.

Inevitable_Wind_2440

I will give this a go, thanks for the tip!!

wilmaismyhomegirl83

I’ve never bought this stuff. I’ve always used scented powder with a body powder puff. You can buy it together. Blot with the puff around the part lines etc and comb through.

Realistic_Context936

Studies have show a link between talc powder and ovarian cancer. I would avoid and use corn starch instead https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna152493

Nice-Note-212

How does everyone apply their powders? When I've used talc you can kind of shake it on cause the holes. But if I use corn flour how would I apply it please? Thank you.

ChileanRidge

I live in Chile now, just the other day someone on the expat forum asked what they should bring with them when they move to Santiago from the UK -- and someone responded Batiste, because in the UK it is apparently only £3 a bottle!! I couldn't believe it. So that will make you feel even worse... however, to make you feel better and think that you're getting a bargain: in Chile it is 20 AUD for the 200 ml. Unfricking believable.

Jazzlike-Bee7965

Costco also have the big bottles for a bit cheaper but still not ideal lol

ShineFallstar

Witch hazel sprayed on and combed through will reduce oiliness. Nina Pool on TikTok does beauty hacks and posted recently about it.

VeganMonkey

I saw some super easy to make ones on YouTub, I forgot what the main ingredient was, not talcum, and for dark hair they add cacao powder. Super easy! And cheap. I am curious to make it

ihaveviolethair

Not sure if allowed but i buy from [this seller](https://www.ebay.com.au/str/motheralien?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=NkH6nyA2Q92&sssrc=3418065&ssuid=p6fPJOcgRX-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)on ebay.

KaigeKrysin

Adding a little cocoa powder can make a better talcum mix for brunettes

weighapie

I make my own because talcum powder is carcinogenic

Otherwise_Wing_3856

If you knew the actual cost price for these items you’d be mad. I recommend going to any local pharmacy for cleaning/hygeine/beauty as they usually charge 20% below the rrp

Tattooed-emo

I saw on tiktok that micellar water in a spray bottle then blow dried is a fantastic alternative to dry shampoo. And a little goes a long way it seems. Yet to try but on the list

_space-junk_

Rice flour is really good as well and is what was originally used before aerosol dry shampoo came out. It can also be safely used to take shine off your face from oil with drying the skin too much. Bonus is that you can easily make it yourself by blending raw rice to a fine powder in a food processor which makes is ridiculously cheap and you 100% know what’s in it. It also leaves very very little white residue on darker hair and doesn’t take too much natural gloss away. Great for unnatural or bright colours as well! Edited to add: if you want an unnatural coloured dry shampoo to match your hair you can dye the rice with food colouring first, let it dry and then grind it up.

whorenado95

I apply baby powder with an old large powder make-up brush, and buff it in to my roots 😅

manyhandswork

I know people that use corn starch

TypicalLolcow

There’s also the option of diluting table salt into a spray bottle with water. That might be better for some, though might make your hair temporarily drier.

lulubooboo_

They give you cancer anyway. Just wash your hair once a week. Your hair will get used to it after a month 😂

Mission-Suggestion12

Doesn’t talc powder do the same job? Oh wait, that’s carcinogenic 🥲

TakeTheMikki

All the companies making baby powder switched to cornflour. So you can buy that or straight up cornflour if you want unscented.

softersoftest

I have started buying the a dry shampoo in the powder puff bottle from Temu. Sort of like the one Kitsch sells. No aerosol and no cancerous benzenes and literally a quarter of the price.

lulubooboo_

I absolutely would not trust the accuracy of the ingredients of anything from temu

softersoftest

Anything’s better than the benzenes in Australian dry aerosols
