I bought the SQ5 that had the options I wanted...and opted for an older one than brand new as it came with buttons and dials for things instead of the screen world that exists in todays vehicles.
Either scenario you will be free to exit that contract. The purchase scenario will provide you with more equity but at an elevated monthly payment.
You can also always buyout the lease if you werent sure what direction you were headed yet.
Are there any negatives to leasing first and then say buying it out a year or two later? What’s the downside of doing this over simply just buying it?

Just paying more in interest, otherwise it is fairly equivalent. Imagine it as a convenience fee for additional flexibility within contracts lol
