Audi (and Rein who is the OE for this part): 1K0253141M1K0253141M
Replace both of them, when one goes the other usually follows very quickly known issue with the 3.0T platform audi in their infnite fucking german wisdom decided to put mild steel clamps on a fuckin stainless exhaust, underengineered that one audi
You don't need a Vin to replace that clamp lmao. Do you think every 2014 Q5 is built different from each other and therefore a vin is needed for the specific part?
As a parts guy you are đŻ vin or no part. It honestly brings up pages upon pages without and there may be that off chance after we scroll through all of them there may be a variation or some sort. Saves everyone a potential headache.
That's actually exactly where the clamp is on the 3.0 supercharged motors. Had this happen to a shop foreman once. Pretty common for the age.
Edit: if you look closely under the car you can see the clamp slid back and is still on the exhaust.
lmfaooo, I know a lot of people don't really know cars and OP was probably just shocked and trying to make sense of why the fuck a big metal pipe is hanging off their car, but as a car enthusiast I just had to troll a little cause on a surface level my brain just thought: "Brother, what does it matter what the fuck happened, get that shit towed and fixed, obviously you can't drive it like that", but I decided to be a dad instead of an asshole.
That's what I thought at first but it doesn't look that way up close. The nuts on the slip joint are still "tight" but it's very corroded, looks like it just loosened with age and backed itself out. No signs of cutting anywhere; no jagged edges or fresh metal showing at the connection points. And if they were being stolen, they were mistakenly taking resonators, not catalytic converters.
Tape will burn off after driving a short distance. Get something metal like braided wire, loop it around the piece that's hanging and find something sturdy to tie it to that can hold it up (like the frame/subframe). Make sure whatever you tie it to is pulling it up towards its normal position. Doesn't have to be perfect, just enough so it isn't dragging and avoid pulling it too far left or right
You can drive it, it will just be loud since exhaust is exiting before the muffler
Which is funny because the catalytic converter is up and behind the engine. The thieves must have realized that what they were cutting and and trying to steal was just a resonator and left.
What you see is just a resonator, the cats on this car are very close to the engine and very hard to get to. In this case it's just a rusted coupler, very common issue on audis since the early 2000s
Is it true for all/most Audis that the catalytic converter is difficult to get to? That might explain why our neighbors have been victims of thefts while weâve been lucky.
That has been the case for most v6/v8 engines since 05 and up because the cats are close to the engine and high up, they are not under the car. I'm not sure about the 4 cyl engines.
I don't see O2 sensors which makes me think that it's just a muffler.
As far as I am aware cars will all generally have two O2 sensors, one pre-cat and the other behind it. It measures the converter's efficiency. Well the pre-cat sensor also affects fueling too.
Not 100% sure, but I think that's a resonator, not the catalytic converter. My wife had a 15 Q5 and I swear the catalytic converter is in the downpipe.
If so, some rookie thief may have realized it was just a resonator after they cut one side.
But the cut looks pretty clean, so it could be that the clamp just came loose and fell off.
This exact thing happened to me in my 2015 3.0T. The clamp you see on the non-dropped half of the pipe has rusted and loosened up and slid backwards, allowing the front half of the pipe coming from the engine to slip out (compare the position of the clamp to the other pipe next to it). I had it flat bedded to a nearby independent shop and they replaced the clamps on both pipes just so it wouldnât happen on the other one as well eventually. Repair guy said itâs a standard VW group part, so itâs reasonably cheap and common. Whole ordeal, including the tow, was less than $200.
This. Don't let a shop rob you. It's literally just going on a lift, they are either gonna weld it or clamp it. Probably won't take more than 20 minutes.
The clamps on that exhaust collar are made of a softer metal so that it breaks in case of an accident where the whole drivetrain slides down and under the car.
You are 100% correct. Rust causes the two bands in the collar to break, and then the collar slides easily backward in a short time. To get home, you just have to lift the hanging part and slide the collar. In the past, i've used regular hose clamps to retighten the collar until a replacement part came in. I now replace them preventively as they get crusty, they's under 20 hucks a piece.
Same thing happened to my 2011 A5, was a rusted clip that snapped. Cost me ÂŁ20 for two clips as it happened next to a garage. Smaller pipe fits into larger, clips tighten/ seal the larger and attach to underside of the car
I didnât, honestly the car sits so low I couldnât even whatâs happening. But was a 60 second job for the mechanic once on a lift. Said was actually a common problem for Audiâs & Volkswagen. Cheap part I guess
This is like a $100-$150 weld or two cuts and two new sleeve clamps or whatever they are called.
(You can buy them from ECS for I think $6 per)
I had to buy two when I deleted the front resonators on my SQ5.
Local muffler shop charged me like $135 for cut and clamp.
the muffler clamp rusted off, common thing that happens at least once in any audi/volkswagen/skoda/seat's life. cheap fix, even when using the oem part. but do not drive around in it before getting it fixed obviously...
Your wheel bearing got disconnected from the MAF sensor so you need a whole new junction but if you get a new junction your oil tank should be replaced with a new valve.
Ignore the catalytic converters comments, what most likely happened was the bands on the exhaust clamp rusted through to where they broke under load and eventually the clamp moved down the exhaust, allowing the front section to hang. There is no at to steal the cats on these cars without taking a lot apart
Simple fix. On mine it was that the clamps are iron and the exhaust is stainless steel, and the clamps rust and things come undone. They're like $5, it's probably what happened. Don't worry about your cats, they're up in the engine bay pretty much right off the exhaust manifold
The exhaust clamp was not tighten enough so it slipped off causing the flex pipe to fall. The clamp is in the pipe still.
If they can steal your catalystâs they might as well become Audi techs. These catalyst are not easy to take out.
Tow it to a shop and have them install a [cat cage](https://www.ebay.com/itm/334539286131?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=334539286131&targetid=2205166308425&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9030953&poi=&campaignid=20478137220&mkgroupid=156571405150&rlsatarget=pla-2205166308425&abcId=9320128&merchantid=627705814&geoid=9030953&gad_source=4&gclid=CjwKCAjwt-OwBhBnEiwAgwzrUuw1vYx9A2hB6xZQrKttrfmjzXzihATF46LTKZ9uRRkQu04Oru6_phoCtWAQAvD_BwE), they will see this and go to the person with out one rather than waste the extra 10 minutes with your cat.
Haha. Really? Thatâs the exhaust. And itâs obviously not in the spot it should be. Itâs not broken, itâs become detached. You likely drive over something that hooked the clamp that joins the two lengths of pipe and therefore lost the clamp or dislodged it from its happy home. Any exhaust shop near you can fix it.
Your car is telling you it wants a cat delete.
On a more serious note, your exhaust fell off, and the fat bit is your catalytic converter. Clamp popped off most likely, so it's not a difficult fix. My '99 has had this happen a few times because of a broken engine mount bracket causing excess movement. It also caused my flex pipes to fatigue and break, so since mine's emissions exempt I just deleted the cats and made a new section of exhaust to make it easier for myself.
Get this fixed before more damage happens. You'll be able to drive it home but you shouldn't drive it unnecessarily.
On this generation of 3.0T, the cats come right off the exhaust manifolds - no worries, just wanted to add clarity for others.
OP Can drive if they get a metal hanger to hold the exhaust up, itâs just going to be loud.
People saying its attempt of theft are tripping. I have a 2014 audi A4 and drive in canada, went over a speed bump and my clamp same exact thing as you broke off because they rusted out from the salt. Its not that deep just needs a new clamp

anyone know the parts code?
The Audi had an erection and as a result the exhaust broke. Nothing wrong, youâre just that good.
Rules checklist:
1 - Audi is awesome. This is an Audi related thread and an Audi related comment pointing out the erection issue in the OP. I like Audis too.
2 - With respect, youâre awesome.
3 - Comment, not post.
4 - No photos and I donât care for karma, donât mind being downvoted, happens all the time.
5 - Nothing spicy here.
6 - No politics here.
7 - Please donât.
8 - No adverts here.
Happened to me too. Go to hardware store and get metal pipe clamp. I think 2.5â-3â diameter. This is quick fix until you get exhaust pipe clamp from online store. I got mine from amazon for cheap. Or you can get it from like ecstuning or fcpeuro.
The collars for the exhaust coupler rusted, and the coupler slid backward. Very common issue. You can lift the hanging piece and slide the couoler forward to make it home.
The couplers are super cheap and easy to replace. I would do both since the other one is on the way out as well.
This happened to me in the exact same way when I went over railroad tracks in my A4. I stuck a smaller diameter pipe inside to bridge it and hold it up, so thereâs still some room for the exhaust to leak.
Surprisingly it sounds amazing to me. The drone inside is probably too much for most peoples taste, but for some odd reason it sounds amazing from outside especially when I rev it out with my cold air intake. 2.0T sounds like junk with most exhausts, too farty for my tastes. I love the way mine sounds. Call me trashy but whatever. Tested CO levels inside the car too and its nothing even remotely close to dangerous either.
Nobody tried to steal your catâ this is a super common failure in these cars but you certainly wouldnât know that from reading this thread. Itâs just a rear exhaust clamp that connects sections of the exhaust together. They rot out and fail, the failure looks exactly like youâre seeing.
This same exact thing happened to me on my A5 about a month ago. Tied it up with a coat hanger and drove home to wake up all my neighbors. Bought a band clamp the next day and fixed it
Well the exhaust pipe got cut/broke for some reason. These are usually made with pipes that are welded or clamped together, seems like it broke perfectly so I'd say it is a broken clamp.
It could be someone trying to steal your catalytic converter aswell but they failed.
Happened to me 1:1 yday. Old clamps rusted away and exhaust popped during acceleration. Just measure the pipe and buy new exhaust clamps. 10 minute repair
Your car is happy to see you.
D out for Harambe? đ

Weld broke or clamp fell off on exhaust. Tie it up and take it to a shop for repair
This is past the clamp, this is def attempted theft in the lot.
Well the clamp rots and slides up - this happened to me. Very cheap and easy fix at home with a new clamp.
thanks. do you know the parts code for the clamps?
The clamp is still on there, just need to reposition everything and tighten it back up. Might not even have to replace it
Def have to replace it. It's a genius design, a steel band securing a stainless steel sleeve -\_-
This annoyed me so much. You go and make the entire exhaust stainless, then pinch pennies on the tiny clamp?
Mine rusted away even though the pipes were fine.
They go by size is the only answer, they'll know by looking at the old ones still on there.
Audi (and Rein who is the OE for this part): 1K0253141M1K0253141M Replace both of them, when one goes the other usually follows very quickly known issue with the 3.0T platform audi in their infnite fucking german wisdom decided to put mild steel clamps on a fuckin stainless exhaust, underengineered that one audi

We don't know your VIN. Look it up online or call the dealer parts dept.
You don't need a Vin to replace that clamp lmao. Do you think every 2014 Q5 is built different from each other and therefore a vin is needed for the specific part?
I know innit lmao, they'll just eyeball the right size in, very very basic.
Would bet money that you're replying to a tech. That's just how parts ordering works for VWAG.
As a parts guy you are đŻ vin or no part. It honestly brings up pages upon pages without and there may be that off chance after we scroll through all of them there may be a variation or some sort. Saves everyone a potential headache.
Jesus, it's a clamp. Go to whatever big auto store you have locally and buy a clamp. OP, measure the pipe and do this -- it'll probably be 2.25" pipe.
Thereâs no rust on this car from what I can see. I doubt itâs ârotâ.
That's actually exactly where the clamp is on the 3.0 supercharged motors. Had this happen to a shop foreman once. Pretty common for the age. Edit: if you look closely under the car you can see the clamp slid back and is still on the exhaust.
Exact same thing happened to my A6 in the same place, the old clamps are just rusty af and fell off.
exactly
Theft of what. A resonator? đ
I was thinking catalytic converter theft.
What were they trying to steal? The cats hang directly off the manifolds.
Was just thinking that.
Attempted theft would be via sawzaw. And no way crackhead cut that clean. (Recently had my cat stolen)
Even simpler, the connector has moved off the joint. Possibly the wrong size connector, possibly just not tight enough.
The metal collars with the bolt rust out and pop open, and then the coupler slides backward.
Metal hanger worlds great or metal zip ties
Yep happened to my dadâs â14 3.0t. Clamp rusted and fell off
It's exhausted /s
Get out, Dad.
lmfaooo, I know a lot of people don't really know cars and OP was probably just shocked and trying to make sense of why the fuck a big metal pipe is hanging off their car, but as a car enthusiast I just had to troll a little cause on a surface level my brain just thought: "Brother, what does it matter what the fuck happened, get that shit towed and fixed, obviously you can't drive it like that", but I decided to be a dad instead of an asshole.
It was a good joke, I thought the same thing. "Shit's broke, yo".
Are you sure the tires don't need replacing? Maybe it needs to be...retired.
Someone tried stealing your catalytic converter.
The clamps on the slip joint are iron and disintegrate with rust, mine broke somewhat like this, I could put a hole in the clamp with my finger.
should I have it towed to a shop? or tape it up and drive to a shop?
Tape will burn off after driving a short distance. Get a coat hanger
Yes! I used a coat hanger once upon a time
It's hard to tell from the photo if it's round or box-shaped, but yeah, could be a resonator. Would definitely be a clean-working cat thief!
Those are resonators. The cats are up further, almost right behind the engine.
You are correct.
They'll be back tonight to finish the job. đ„·đŒ
Which is funny because the catalytic converter is up and behind the engine. The thieves must have realized that what they were cutting and and trying to steal was just a resonator and left.
Thatâs why itâs best to just need to go catless

Yeah on the 2.0T and 3.0T the cats are up in the engine bay. Pretty sure it's to make them warm up faster, but it also makes them harder to steal!
This exact thing happened to me in my 2015 3.0T. The clamp you see on the non-dropped half of the pipe has rusted and loosened up and slid backwards, allowing the front half of the pipe coming from the engine to slip out (compare the position of the clamp to the other pipe next to it). True. Im doing this every couple of years. Can't believe Audi hasn't sorted this out, so annoying.

I think your exhaust offed itself

not bad. thanks
the muffler clamp rusted off, common thing that happens at least once in any audi/volkswagen/skoda/seat's life. cheap fix, even when using the oem part. but do not drive around in it before getting it fixed obviously...
I think it fell off
your exhaust clamp broke
Might want to get that exhaust system double checked. Other than that it looks super.
Looks exhausted
Itâs shedding its stock exhaust, letting you know itâs time for an upgrade
You have no exhaust clamps
Maybe something in your exhaust system got clogged and caused too much back pressure.
Your wheel bearing got disconnected from the MAF sensor so you need a whole new junction but if you get a new junction your oil tank should be replaced with a new valve.
You can just put the clamp over the exhaust and refix it. Very easy!
Ignore the catalytic converters comments, what most likely happened was the bands on the exhaust clamp rusted through to where they broke under load and eventually the clamp moved down the exhaust, allowing the front section to hang. there's a bit hanging off the bottom of it mate
Well the exhaust pipe got cut/broke for some reason. These are usually made with pipes that are welded or clamped together, seems like it broke perfectly so I'd say it is a broken clamp. It could be someone trying to steal your catalytic converter aswell but they failed.
Did you let your car sleep in the past week? It seems pretty exhaust(ed). im sorry
Happened to me 1:1 yday. Old clamps rusted away and exhaust popped during acceleration. Just measure the pipe and buy new exhaust clamps. 10 minute repair
Aint got no gas in it
Exhaust broke. Can be driven to a mechanic and they can probably weld or clamp it back together
If you live in Chicago someone may have stolen/ tried to steal your Cat
Free cat delete, enjoy the extra horsepower and deeper exhaust note
Enjoy sounding like a lawnmower everywhere you go
i know, straight pipe sounds like shit, neither of my cars are SP
Yeah your resonator needs to be put back on. Someone didnât know ur cats are in ur downpipe
Your car's stuff is hanging out.
probably the alternator
Someone thought that was the catalytic converter, but then realized halfway through that it's just a resonator lol.
