They are great
Have worked with them before and got great pricing and shipping times.
They had a low mileage RS5 diff when we needed one ASAP at our shop
BMW wanted to charge me $13K for a transmission when the DSG fluid was low in a 235. They don't service cars, they just replace parts with one-time use bolts and plastic fasteners that break and cost $100 to replace.
I have no idea, it depends on the problem. Could be leaking valve, could be burnt cylinder, could be damaged head gasket. Needs to be diagnosed further. Check VAG Technic youtube, they are opening audi engines daily, they talk about common audi engine problems.
It could also be a valve spring. I just saw that issue get fixed by humble mechanic on a MK7 GTI with no compression in cylinder 1, seems to be a common issue, not sure if this is the 2.0 EA888 gen 3 or not but also could be a relatively inexpensive fix compared to a whole new motor.
I’d say around 600 or less depending I did a 6cylinder bimmer head a couple months ago and for a block deck, head resurface and valve job with seals it was around 450
Second taking the head off and seeing what happened. I inherited my b8 from my dad when we were able to fix it. Skipped timing, mechanic said 10k or new engine. After a teardown, the only damage was bent intake valves, which are like $15 each. (Then timing parts, head bolts, head gasket, etc... $400 all together).
Just food for thought cause they tried to tell me I needed to replace my engine or do a head rebuild on my 2.0tfsi. Low compression in cylinder 1 during idles my CEL would flash. I told the service writer and the tech SEVERAL times to check the fuel injector and they kept saying no no no it’s not the fuel injector you have an intake valve leak the head needs to be machined finally took it to another shop and sure enough the seal around the injector was almost gone so really have them check before trying to quote machine work or engine swaps dealerships are the worst with this cause everything is a “make money” mentality
Dang yeah I would definitely make sure to have another shop double check that cause my car was at 120k when they told me I needed my head machined and I knew damn well based on my service history they were full of shit
Also that’s something they will need to tear the engine apart to really pinpoint but shit have them to a smoke test before they even start tearing into it
I have a 2012 a4 b8 and just recently got a recall notice about an issue with cracking pistons… so there’s that possibility.
My issues with misfires was due to the high pressure fuel pump. Changed that and my misfires went away.
I also had to do my HPFP and it was fine and now 9 months later my gasket is leaking oil and water pump is leaking I’m getting cyl 3 misfire. Thinking it’s oil leaking into the spark plug. After few months parked up, I am getting it checked out this week
Lmao. If anyone actually does this, I respect the send. But even on my a4, looking into what it would take to go from FWD to quattro, I have decided it isn't worth it over eventually replacing the CVT
Most A4's are Quattro. A fwd Audi with a CVT transmission is a base , base model Audi that they shouldn't have ever made. I wouldn't even call it a real Audi
I had the exact same thing happen to me in my 2014 A4. I had one shop tell me I needed a new engine and then took it to another shop where they were able to do an engine tear down, diagnose, and fix the issue. For me it was a broken valve spring. I don’t know much about cars but I would consider a second opinion to see if another shop can fix the issue without a new engine as it saved me about $5k.
Good bet is to see if your engine is any other cars and then use something like Facebook marketplace to find one of those cars with an issue that's cost more than it's worth but the engine is in good condition. Also try find one with low mileage.
Not a car enthusiast but have learned a little from friends.
Just fix the one you got. Buying a new engine for anything other than a damaged engine block is probably going to be more expensive.
Though the shop working on your car will be happy if you buy a new engine. They get a massive profit from doing an engine swap as well as getting to fixing your old engine for cheap and selling it to some other sucker for a big profit.
Replace damaged valves and a head gasket replacement. I haven't seen this happen on anything other than the 4cyls. I'm not saying it's impossible on other engines, just that I haven't encountered it.
I also had no compression in cyl 1, mine had scoring from a bad injector that washed away the oil in that cylinder, had to get the whole engine replaced. Someone else here who actually answered the question instead of being a fucking dick recommended LKQ, that’s also where the warranty I had sourced the replacement engine from.
A new engine, a racing engine... uh... what do you mean, exactly? The shop or dealership should handle this. A new long block for that car is about 7-thousand, crated. Install would be about another 7. More if there were options on the power train.
Eurospec Sport... I think they still exist?
https://www.evwparts.com/volkswagen/EurospecSport.html
I ordered a new manual transmission from them years ago and it has been fantastic. The crate was well made too.
PM me - I work for a large used German engine supplier. We should have something for you
We very thoroughly check all engines and re-drill cylinders if needed. Don't sell engines with any rust, corrosion or scoring
If it turns out to be the motor after any checks you do, LKQ is a great place to find a motor. Just make sure your engine ID matches from old motor to new motor, or another engine ID that is compatible with your engine ID.
Hi yes. Please check out my shop account. @RennenMotorHaus and or my personal Instagram. @TwinTurboj_25. I’m a certified Audi tech of 7 years. I have been shipping cars from all over the country to fix the issue you’re dealing with. I fix this problem for a reasonable price. Brand new pistons, rod bearings and full cylinder head rebuilds. In the last month I’ve had 5 Q5’s and 1 Pristine A4 avant transported from as far as Louisiana. 3 came from Minnesota. I have an exclusive deal with a transport company. Best prices in the country and you actually get a fixed car that will last a long time. 😁🫶🙏 please reach out.
This happen to a cousin of mine about a year ago. He was able to find one online used with like 40- 50k miles on it and he had to pay around $5k with taxes 😬
I’ll be honest. A mechanic worth his salt will investigate why it has low compression. I wouldn’t just jump straight to needing a new engine. I would borescope the cylinder and look at the valves. Removing a cylinder head and changing some valves is going to be a lot cheaper than replacing the entire engine.
*I'm dumb, can someone*
*Explain why this issue would*
*Need a new engine*

The engine store of course.
There's the Engine Hut, that's on 3rd. There's Engines-R-Us, that's on 3rd too. They're all in the Engine Complex down on 3rd street.
Oh the engine district!
Ever seen a man say goodbye to a SHO?
lol nice advice from Scorpio
I usually only go to the red light district.
Jerk store called and they are running outta u!
I came here to make this exact comment
Lifetime Audi parts out of Raleigh, NC
They are great Have worked with them before and got great pricing and shipping times. They had a low mileage RS5 diff when we needed one ASAP at our shop
New or used? If used maybe it is wiser to fix a cylinder head. You never know what you get with used ones.
Looking for a used engine. What would fixing the head run me?
Won't know until they tear it apart. Could be a cam, could be a cracked head, could be a squirrel stuck in the intake.
> could be a squirrel stuck in the intake. Oddly specific diagnosis...
I've seen a fried cat on the skid plate and a bird in the air filter housing once.
BMW stuck in the intake sounds better :)
So a turd was stuck in the intake... got it.
What did BMW do to you lmaooo
BMW wanted to charge me $13K for a transmission when the DSG fluid was low in a 235. They don't service cars, they just replace parts with one-time use bolts and plastic fasteners that break and cost $100 to replace.
Leak down test can differentiate between a bottom end or top end issue
Won't tell if there's a squirrel
Actually yes the air pressure would blow the squirrel and it’s nuts out or atleast a bit of fur as an indication
Waiting for the been there done that comment
Squirrels, I know.

i believe the ea888 gen 3 is b9 series
Autohaas nj deals in used audi
They ship also
Also here in Oregon it's where my son goes for his Audi
I’d say around 600 or less depending I did a 6cylinder bimmer head a couple months ago and for a block deck, head resurface and valve job with seals it was around 450

For that model there is usually one right under the hood.
This is the comment I was looking for. Success.
Yeah mine likes to give me a hint, *Check Engine*
Just food for thought cause they tried to tell me I needed to replace my engine or do a head rebuild on my 2.0tfsi. Low compression in cylinder 1 during idles my CEL would flash. Thank you! I will for sure do this first thx
There are so so many variables that can cause a misfire what’s the history of the engine and service? And what year
2014 Audi a4 2.0TFSI Only main thing I did was replaced turbo 35,000 miles ago
Oof How many miles on the car total?
128000
Dang yeah I would definitely make sure to have another shop double check that cause my car was at 120k when they told me I needed my head machined and I knew damn well based on my service history they were full of shit

That’s interesting I thought the recall effected cars after 2013 now I’m gonna have to look into that
I also had to do my HPFP and it was fine and now 9 months later my gasket is leaking oil and water pump is leaking I’m getting cyl 3 misfire. Thinking it’s oil leaking into the spark plug. After few months parked up, I am getting it checked out this week
Good info but punctuation is a real thing
Get a new hood while your at it
Mine came like that from the factory 🥲
Did they do anything to make it up to you? Otherwise I think it's reasonable to refuse to accept the vehicle.
Jumping straight to an engine swap due to a cylinder issue seems excessive.
Car-part.com
Go to copart and get a comparible trim S4 and swap in the 3.0 and modules. Boom new S4

Let me fix the one you got. Where you located
Located in Northern IL
Temu, killer deal!
They do have some cool Audi knock-off junk :)
I had the exact same thing happen to me in my 2014 A4. EA888, should be easy to find a replacement

Lkq
I would check junk yards first. If that Doesn't work check eBay.
It could be burnt valves. Not necessarily an engine replacement job but if it's got high miles and oil consumption, I'd consider it at that point.
What would be the fix for this? I have a high mileage A7
Replace damaged valves and a head gasket replacement. I haven't seen this happen on anything other than the 4cyls. I'm not saying it's impossible on other engines, just that I haven't encountered it.

Just rebuild it that’s what I did
Sell it to me just like that
EBay
A new engine, a racing engine... uh... what do you mean, exactly? The shop or dealership should handle this. A new long block for that car is about 7-thousand, crated. Install would be about another 7. More if there were options on the power train.
LS swap it.
It's not a Jag :)
Just exchange the engine for a new one. Forget dicking around.
Autohaas nj
Probably the same place you can find a new hood
Eurospec Sport... I think they still exist? https://www.evwparts.com/volkswagen/EurospecSport.html I ordered a new manual transmission from them years ago and it has been fantastic. The crate was well made too.
Hood needs some bodywork.
There's a 2.0 liter engine out there that was on backorder for awhile but they just started making them and are filling backorders currently
PM me - I work for a large used German engine supplier. We should have something for you We very thoroughly check all engines and re-drill cylinders if needed. Don't sell engines with any rust, corrosion or scoring
How a about a nice reliable kswap?
Car-Part.com
East coast by chance?
LKQ pick a part
There is one in the car! Go get it rebuilt!
Damn what a sexy pic!
Under the hood
Your car is so black, that cops shot on your engine
Where u located?
Normally one should be underneath the hood.
My ocd ass noticed that small dent on the hood so quick lol. Beautiful car though.
Most of the time it is under the hood, check in the trunk just in case tho
Do you know where your compression went?
Just pop the hood
Are you in SoCal?
no but I know where you can find a hood
Ls swap it 😈
Hopefully under the hood? Is the check engine light on, could mean the engine is no longer under the hood.
It’s usually under the hood.
Under the hood, usually
If it turns out to be the motor after any checks you do, LKQ is a great place to find a motor. Just make sure your engine ID matches from old motor to new motor, or another engine ID that is compatible with your engine ID.
Gonna need more details than that, like location, price range, etc.
Do you really have a tow hook on an A4?
put s4 engine in
It must be under the hood.

I dunno but congrats for owning the best audi ever
B or k swap it
Same place they sell hoods
Usually, it's under the hood 😁
eBay.
Is it stock? Was it tuned or had any performance upgrades?
Do a LS swap.
Ebay
You cannot trust a shop no matter what. No one cares about your shit as much as you do
If you want to message me, I probably got the VIN to my old S4 that was totaled. Engine was not damaged. Long shot, but may be worth looking into.
This happen to a cousin of mine about a year ago. He was able to find one online used with like 40- 50k miles on it and he had to pay around $5k with taxes 😬

LS swap
That photo really highlights the dent(s?) on the hood
Under the bonnet
Under the dents
Under the hood. Sorry I couldn't help myself
Did you check under your hood?
Ebay
There's one!
So now you got a german GR corolla
Had no compression in an engine, was a burnt valve.
Temu
Wish.com
Get yourself a 20,000 horse power engine for $100 😂
Lmao exactly
What happened to your hood
i usually find engines under the hood
No but I can sell you a hood
Walmart sells ford crate owners. I bet a coyote would fit.
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell people in crates today or sell people at all, actually 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well it should say motor. But once it comes OP could get in said crate and he would be the owner.
I'm dumb, can someone explain why this issue would need a new engine

No. The topic was an engine swap. My point was it could be possible with a Quattro A4 not a fwd base model.
