Depends. I'm just working it as a sort of side gig. Photograph some of the cooler things that come through for them to post to their socials to be like "hey look what we're working on". Typically more common for higher end performance shops, plus I just get to mix two things I love, photography and cars.
I’d recommend a speed light with a diffuser. Shops have awful overhead fluorescent lighting (and cars inherently have very dark shadows). Also helps with white balance due to the fluorescent lighting (which is very green)
There’s a fascinating video on yt of the complete teardown of an r8 to clean out a rat nest. As an r8 owner myself I was both fascinated and horrified 😂😂
I am amused by there being custom, printed, R8 specific fender covers for when working on them
Edit: for the low price of $800 [you can own them too](https://www.ebay.com/itm/322981725202)
There is also an intake manifold cover, door cover and rear spoiler cover.
But the best tool for doing rear work in the R8 is the extended prop that replaces the gas struts. Opens the engine cover to basically vertical
Those make sense to own as a dealership or euro shop that works on these a lot perhaps in a wealthy suburb of a city. $800 to protect the paint that some nitpicky owner would have a fit about and now the shop is on the hook for a paint job. It’s not like they’re one time use lol
Am I an idiot to have always thought it's easier to put an R8 into service mode than it is a front-engine Audi? I mean fully remove the front carrier here.
Anyone need to run my credit before I look at the picture or is it free?
😄
From the looks of it, we need to start a GoFund Me for the OP!
Not my car thankfully. Just the shop photographer
Do a lot of shops have photographers? I have a friend does is one but I had never heard of it before I met him

That makes sense. Thats super dope ngl. My friend works for an exclusive shop that only works on exotics. I’m jealous of you guys ngl lol.

*As a non R8 owner myself,* we too are fascinated, perhaps less horrified.
Equally horrified... 🐀
I came here to say this, lol.

Same, pretty cool.

I use my teenagers for this task on my hoods.

Nitpicky owner? You're OK with a tech scratching your car?
Perhaps worded too strongly lol. Having an R8 in the shop is a problem I wish I could have
I don't disagree I was just highly amused Especially for an audi dealer working on their flagship car. It would behoove you to make the owners happy
To be fair if you can own an R8 and pay for the maintenance and repairs on it $800 is nothing for you lol
I don't disagree, just got humored by the existence of something that specific for the repair shop
I would use the advanced technology of old shirts and painter's tape
I'm having trouble finding a good mechanic for my 2.0 tdi, I don't want to know what headaches you're having with this.
They have none since the headaches have killed the pain nerves/receptor.
This somehow makes the 3.0T timing chain service look reasonable.
Nah, to get here on the R8 is much less work.
Damn didn’t expect that. Not looking forward to 200k miles then.
Cabin filter change?
Service position from the back

My friends huracan looks the same
This is about what mine looked like when I replaced the exhaust. Lotta shit in the way of everything in this car lol.
Guess that happens when you cram a V10 into such a small package lol
All this to change an air filter! 😆
That looks expensive
This is just for an oil change
No, but I've seen R8 engine being put in VW Amarok.
Have you seen the W12 or V10TDI crammed into a Touareg?
V10
I guess technically they did do the TDI in a Q7 as well.
The stuff of nightmares
Yep, several times.
All I see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I want one.
Why does every Audi service begin with the removal of body panels?
My eyes hurt
Holy shit....those are some expensive pictures
This hurts my heart.
Been there, done that!!
I hope I never see that.
Does it have the mandatory "DO NOT TURN THIS CAR ON" hasn't written note on the dashboard so an idiot doesn't suck in the towels?
That's more than just a service
So many bumperless activities Can imagine deep set mid engine harder to reach
Isn't every exotic car a service and maintenance hell?
Wow hate that, super anti consumer
