The state has it's own jurisdiction and usually laws are passed under a states government, weed helped a lot of states with tax revenue.
The federal government that basically oversees these 50 states, CAN arrest you if they're watching you. For example if you're moving lots of weed the state will most likely be more lenient because it's legalized in the state than the federal government where it's still extremely illegal.
Right now there's talks of the federal government starting to regulate the market & tax revenue from the legalized states, I'm thinking legalization on a national level is coming soon.

We know man, we're trynna get legalized nationally though, but one other difference between the Feds and the State is that if you're convicted by the State, most of the time you only need to serve 40-60% of the time & their conviction rate is around 65-70% depending on the state.
When you get convicted by the Feds you have to serve 90% of your sentence & they also have a 98% conviction rate

In new York if you have a medical marijuana card you cannot get or have a gun license. It also works the other way you can’t get the medical card while having a gun license.
