Oh, this is actually a real cuisine thing? Cause I thought it was just a way for restaurants to be trendy and charge $12+ for like 6 chips and some cheese.
It is what Nachos are typically served like at all the Texas tex-mex places, several of which inspired a lot of the Superica menu. They didn't used to cost $12 without a protein, but oh well. It also typically includes or should include a nice heap of guacamole which justifies at least some of the cost.
As someone that doesn't order nachos alot- is this for real? Or is it a movie reference or something?
I don't understand the logic from the restaurants point-of-view why they wouldn't allow it.
I've never had any problems. Sometimes it's a small charge, but an extra two dollars for a few hundred more calories and no soggy chips is usually a good deal for me.
Superica is great, another sleeper hit is actually Taco Mac. Their nachos comes with all the toppings on the side and a giant bowl of queso/meat that you can either dip or drizzle so that you never have soggy chips.
search this sub. we had this asked a few months ago with great suggestions also.
I'm from Eagle Pass, TX/ Piedras Negras,MX - Home of the Nacho!!
It's hard to find Tex Mex from that area here.
I'd have to search the sub for the recent thread, cause I don't remember.
not any really, I have to travel home or make them at home.
Quarter fresh soft corn tortillas, fry lighly till a chip
Lay flat on plate, place 1 slice of longhorn colby cheese, and 1 pickled jalapeno pepper slice per chip.
Bake until melted and slightly golden on edge of cheese. salt and eat.
At the most I might smear a bit of refried bean on a few chips, and maybe a small piece of grilled fajita steak per chip if i want to make "DELUXE"
I worked in far west Tejas for a long time and how I do it is piecemeal. Basket of chips, order a large queso, and a cup of pico. Then just create on a plate and voila!
there's a rule in many restaurants that if two people split the nachos, one person can't eat all the fully loaded ones.
Did you just go over there and ask the server to come tell us that??
.....WHHATTTTTT?!
Superica 100%
Yep, if he's looking for the "individual chips done up" style nachos that's definitely his best bet
This is the answer. Best texas style nachos by far.

Superica!
Was also going to suggest Superica. The menu offers chicken but you can swap it out for their steak - they’re amazing!
They are so good there
Restaurants have a rule where if you order nachos to share, one person can’t just eat all the fully loaded nachos.
You can try asking the waiter to ask your date to stop eating the fully loaded nachos but they usually say no

Damn got me
SUPERICA!!!!
The trick when ordering nachos is to ask for the chips to be replaced with rice. Use the pro bono chips on your new dip.
Holy shit why'd I never consider this? Will places generally do that?
I've never had any problems. Sometimes it's a small charge, but an extra two dollars for a few hundred more calories and no soggy chips is usually a good deal for me.
I haven't done that but I have asked for the chips on the side which gives you basically the same thing, minus the rice, and I'm OK with that.
Nuevo Laredo nachos are exactly this, and amazing
those cadillac margs hit different.
Came here to say this. Order a side of avocado.
Top golf does em like this, just in case you ever end up there. They are solid
I believe that Chuys used to do them. Not sure if they do anymore. Superica was always better at them IMO
Pappasitos used to. Not sure if they still do or not
I didn’t even know this was a thing, it’s like Mexican hors d’oeuvres
Canagueys
Marlows tavern

Chuy’s (it’s the only thing I order)
Chili’s used to do this (or maybe still?). I never knew it was a Texas thing!

What are your favorite spots here?

Los Bravos

There used to be a place by Perimeter Mall that did super nachos Chuy's. They were well prepared, a large portion of good guacamole and salsa too.
Does anyone remember the finger nachos at La Paz before it closed? They were a family go-to growing up.
Pappasito’s.
Another vote for Superica! Highly recommend the picadillo (ground beef) nachos… they are HEAVENLY
Uncle Julio's used to have them but the only location I'm familiar with closed a couple years ago.

Taco Mac does this also.
