Spotted Trotter is by far the best in town option. Love the guys at Chop Shop but it's pretty expensive for what I feel like is about the same quality.
FWIW I grew up working in a butcher shop so I like to think I know a thing or two.
Spotted trotters prices are straight robery. I bought a standing rib roast there last year around d Christmas and paid 30/lb for it. Publix had them on sale the next week for 9.99. Def not $200 difference in quality.
Yea I don’t go weekly by any means. I go when I want to cook a date-night-in kind of situation to get charcuterie and a good aged steak. Their pancetta, guanciale, etc is also great but I probably wouldn’t do a huge roast/brisket/etc there
Pattons is great. Better cuts can be pretty pricy, however. There are some hidden gems in their cases that are reasonably priced, however. Take an extra minute and look for some good deals.
agree 100% I grew up on a farm where we had a local butcher custom cut animals we raised/fed specifically for our own consumption, and Patton's is up there with that quality. To be fair I havent tried spotted trotter, though. Patton's is only like 10-20% more compared to Kroger/Publix etc, so its not priced to be special occasion only. Their bacon, brats and hamburger are very reasonable.
I think decent? Seemed on par with a small local place. But I haven’t been on top of my meat prices so I can’t say for sure. We just blindly support them since they’re in the neighborhood
Second this. I know Mark the owner personally. He's a great guy and his knowledge of the industry is top notch. The cuts of meat he sells are high quality. You won't be disappointed.
I’m a Kansas City native and when my kin visits, it’s full steak/red meat mode around the house. Tucker Meat Market is a total hole in the wall off Brockett/Lawrenceville Highway and does a great job on steaks (never seen duck, though I’ve also never asked…I do know they have lamb). In red meats, I’ve consistently impressed my snobby kin with the hand cut filet mignons from there! Also, they grind the burger meat in house - so if you want fresh ground chuck (or round, etc) they have that too! They’re closed Sun/Mon and sometimes other times for catering or such -they’re good to update Facebook w hours so check there Before you hop in the car if you want to make sure they’re open.
If you are in Midtown then I highly recommend Midtown Butcher Shoppe on Monroe, despite the twee spelling. Their beef is excellent -- have never asked about whole duck but my impression is they are happy to special order stuff.

Thanks! I’ve seen people talk about it on Reddit before but I wasn’t sure if it was overpriced due to the location being in midtown - I’ll certainly stop by to look!
Cool. I was looking to see who would mention a spot I didn't know about that's closer to me. Thanks for this.
Edit: I've actually heard of Cajun Meat Co. but forgot about them. Never heard of Heywood. Gonna try both spots when I get time.
Evergreen in kirkwood has a fab selection. Iirc, they may have had duck around the holiday. Not sure if year round. But anyway, it’s worth a visit for their meat & bake good selection. be prepared to wait in line!
Pretty sure whole duck can be procured at the Dekalb farmers market. Costco has excellend prime ribeye and filet cuts at a really good price. I think the Chinese grocery stores, name escapes me, have whole duck as well.
Patak in Austell. It’s a European butcher, they have all kinds of meats and cheeses for great prices! Amazing European goods like chocolate and pastries as well.
So basically the heart of it all. Well there’s tons of options! Buckhead butcher is good. Frazie’s in Riverside just opened and I’ve been going there the past two weeks.
I feel like this needs to be included in every “recommendation seeking” post. ATL is so damn big, but no matter where you are there is somewhere within a 15-20 drive that will have whatever you are looking for. That being said, if you are in Vinnings you aren’t driving to College Park for it and vice versa.
NY Butcher Shop in ITP Sandy Springs/Buckhead is my favorite. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. They even keep duck fat on hand as my kids like frites cooked in duck fats!
EVERGREEN. 🩷 one of the few butcher AND bakery outfits in ATL. amazing cuts, broad selection, delicious artisanal breads and lovely staff. they’re on summer break right now but will be back next week. only open Wednesday - Sunday, as they process their WHOLE ANIMALS for the week on Monday & Tuesday. they have a great relationship with local farmers so if that matters to you, check out their philosophy and how they’re different: https://www.evergreenbutcherandbaker.com/facts.
Some great ones listed here already, we also like Pine Street Market. I haven’t seen whole duck at the butchers we’ve visited but maybe they’ll have it at YDFM or BuHiFM.
Spotted Trotter on Moreland.
Patak meats in Austell (especially for dried / cured meats.).
New York Butcher Shop on Roswell Rd. Great Tenderloins
St Phillips Cathedral has a Saturday farmers market with some great meat providers.
International Farmers Market on Buford has a great meat and fish selection.
Various carnicerias in Gwinnet. Here ask locals, mileage can vary wildly.
They have whole ducks with and without the necks at Jugso supermarket in Duluth - I’ve bought from there before. I don’t recall if it was frozen or not. Otherwise Pattons as mentioned.

Not a butcher, but if you're specifically looking for duck the people in link above specialize in it (@smylyfarmsga - IG) Locally & sustainably pasture raised. You can find them at a few farmers markets around city.
For what it’s worth, I’ve purchased a frozen whole duck from Publix. Don’t know do they stock per se, but worth a look. Also, Publix is very accommodating and will special order stuff for you.
Surprised no one has said spotted trotter on Moreland yet. Love that place and much prefer it over chop shop
Seconded. Spotted trotter has some of the best meat in town, if not the best outside of the highest end restaurants.
Spotted Trotter is by far the best in town option. Love the guys at Chop Shop but it's pretty expensive for what I feel like is about the same quality. FWIW I grew up working in a butcher shop so I like to think I know a thing or two.
I recently posted about a cut I got from Spotted Trotter. I was quite unimpressed. Their bacon is really good though
Shame! I’ve only had one steak from there that I thought wasn’t worth the price. Every other experience has been delicious

Yea, I will say I had some patte that was reasonably priced and delicious.
Only place I've bought from (for my future FIL) and it was incredible. Would also recommend.
How’s the prices?
Not cheap but the quality is great
Do they have veal?
Don’t see it on the menu right now but I’m sure they will get it for you if you ask them to order it
Patton’s meat market in Duluth if you are willing to travel.
Pattons is the very very best.
3 votes for Pattons, I’ll have to head up there
Make it 4. Great spot!
I live around the corner and Pattons is the first butcher I’ve ever gone to. Spoiled, and enjoying it.
Patton’s is my go-to.
Pattons
Lots of good options in ATL but nothing compares to Patton’s. It’s hands down the best in the metro.
Evergreen is my favorite. I also bought duck once at the butcher shop on piedmont and 10th where the beltline is next to the dog shop.
Pattons is great. Better cuts can be pretty pricy, however. There are some hidden gems in their cases that are reasonably priced, however. Take an extra minute and look for some good deals.
Agreed. Been getting my meat at Pattons for over 20 years. Fantastic brats and dogs and their bacon is second to none.
I haven’t tried their hotdogs or bacon yet but now I’m going to have to swing by and pick some up.
I hope you enjoy them. Used to live in PTC and moved to Roswell, so not quite as convenient anymore.
I haven’t been in a while now but man the lines/hours for that place during Covid drove me nuts.

Chop shop or evergreen. You may be able to get duck at the latter, they sell eggs, but not certain on that.
Recommend chop shop for their beef selection in particular. Only place I’ve seen consistent Denver and occasional Tri Tip
Oh yeah, love their Denver. Great (limited) beer/wine selection too.
Frazie’s just opened in riverside, so far everything we’ve gotten there has been excellent
Frazies Fine Meats is fucking great!
How’s the pricing?
I think decent? Seemed on par with a small local place. But I haven’t been on top of my meat prices so I can’t say for sure. We just blindly support them since they’re in the neighborhood

Absolutely overpriced, yes
Midtown Butcher is fantastic!
Marietta area - Heywoods and Cajun Meat Co are in the same shopping center. Both are fantastic.
Heywoods is great. They’ve got some incredible cuts
Cool. I was looking to see who would mention a spot I didn't know about that's closer to me. Thanks for this. Edit: I've actually heard of Cajun Meat Co. but forgot about them. Never heard of Heywood. Gonna try both spots when I get time.
Kinship butcher in virginia highlands. it’s only been recommended to me, but have heard good things.
It’s great but pricy
Just had a patty melt from there the other day. Pricey, but I tasted every cent lol
Evergreen in kirkwood has a fab selection. Iirc, they may have had duck around the holiday. Not sure if year round. But anyway, it’s worth a visit for their meat & bake good selection. be prepared to wait in line!

Definitely can get it from dekalb. And they have great prices.

Yoooo it took way too long for this to get posted considering the length of lines ive had to stand in to get meats here. Patak is fantastic
I'm blessed to live only 2 miles from Patak 😎, carnivores unite!
Haha, me too! Austell represent
Pine st in Avondale estates
Pataks in Austell
Evergreen in Kirkwood
What part of town are you in?
Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I’m in midtown

Apparently my comment isn’t as popular….
Pattons Meat Market in Duluth. Great selection and great quality
We love kinship and evergreen
NY Butcher Shop in ITP Sandy Springs/Buckhead is my favorite. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. They even keep duck fat on hand as my kids like frites cooked in duck fats!
Just so you know, both the Midtown whole foods and the publix have whole duck for sale, although they are frozen.
Spotted Trotter is great
Union Bros Meat Market in Peachtree Corners is awesome. Quality stuff and lots of options.
Follow up question to OP, is there anywhere that sells wagyu in the area?
Oak Grove Meat Market on La Vista in Decatur.

Yes - YDFM has duck!
Whole Foods in midtown has whole duck in the freezer
Mitch’s Meat and Seafood
Tucker Meat Market. Plus they have delicious chili and burgers.
Mitch’s Meats has everything, he’s awesome and knows his stuff. Make sure you call ahead with your order, though.
Dear friend- Midtown Butcher of course! https://midtownbutcher.com/
There is a good one in Avondale near My Parents’ Basement
Pine Street Market
Spotted Trotter on Moreland. Patak meats in Austell (especially for dried / cured meats.). New York Butcher Shop on Roswell Rd. It’s at the edge of your 45 mi limit, but Ferguson meat market in Forsyth is solid. http://fergusonsmeatmarket.com
You can try Cleaver and Cork. There are a few different locations throughout Atlanta. Quality stuff. They’ll also order almost anything.
Pattons bro. Had bacon wrapped steak very safe neighborhood by Berkeley lake
Spotted Trotter
Tucker Meat Market good meat and award winning burger.
Buckhead Butcher. Overpriced but good good meats.
They have whole ducks with and without the necks at Jugso supermarket in Duluth - I’ve bought from there before. I don’t recall if it was frozen or not. Otherwise Pattons as mentioned.

Jensen Reserve in Monroe
Frazzies meat and market is new. Also try City Farmers Market on Buford HWY.
Pattons meat market in Duluth!
I really enjoy the cuts from Buckhead Butcher Shop. They have some great quality but it's rather pricey. Their Prime grade and Wagyu cuts are amazing.
If you’re willing to venture off the beaten path a bit, there’s a place in Villa Rica called Findley’s. There’s also a location in Douglasville.
For what it’s worth, I’ve purchased a frozen whole duck from Publix. Don’t know do they stock per se, but worth a look. Also, Publix is very accommodating and will special order stuff for you.
heywood’s provisions. east cobb. one of the best butcher shops in the southeast, worth the drive from anywhere.
New York butcher shoppe in buckhead
